Safety IMPORTANT SAFETY

INSTRUCTIONS

When using an electrical appliance, basic precautions should always be followed, including the following:

Read All Instructions Before Using This Appliance

WARNING—To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock

or injury, follow these safety instructions.

To assure maximum safety, best performance, and to gain knowledge of the appliance, it is essential that you or any other operator of the appliance read and understand the contents of this manual before operating the appliance. Pay particular

attention to the safety alert symbol CAUTION, WARNING OR DANGER — “personal safety instruction.” Read and understand the instruction because it has to do with safety. FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH INSTRUCTION MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY, RISK OF FIRE OR ELECTRICAL SHOCK.

• Do not leave the appliance when plugged in. Unplug from

outlet when not in use and before servicing.

• Do not allow appliance to be used as a toy. Do not use near

children or pets. Do not let children use the appliance.

• Use only as described in this manual. Use only manufacturer’s

recommended attachments.

• Do not use with damaged cord or plug. If appliance is not

working as it should, has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or dropped into water, return it to a service dealer.

• Do not pull or carry by cord, use cord as a handle, close a door

on cord, or pull cord around sharp edges or corners. Keep cord away from heated surfaces.

• Do not unplug by pulling on cord. To unplug, grasp the plug,

not the cord.

• Do not handle plug or appliance with wet hands.

• Do not put any object into openings. Do not use with any

opening blocked; keep free of dust, lint, hair, and anything that may reduce air flow.

Pin up long hair. Be aware of the position of the blower and the air inlets during operation. Loose clothing, jewelry and hair can be drawn into the inlets (Fig. 1) and may result in personal injury. Always wear substantial footwear and long pants.

• Turn off all controls before unplugging.

• Use extra care when cleaning on stairs.

• Do not use to vacuum up flammable or combustible liquids,

such as gasoline, or use in areas where they may be present.

• This appliance is provided with double insulation. Use only

identical replacement parts. See instructions for Servicing of Double-Insulated Appliances.”

• Do not vacuum anything that is burning or smoking, such as

cigarettes, matches, or hot ashes.

• Do not use without vac bag or proper attachments in place.

• To reduce the risk of electric shock, this appliance has a

polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other) (Fig. 11) and will require the use of a polarized extension cord. The appliance plug will fit into a polarized extension cord only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the extension cord, reverse the plug. If the plug still does not fit, obtain a correct polarized extension cord. A polarized extension cord will require the use of a polarized wall outlet. This plug will fit into the polarized wall outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the wall outlet, reverse the plug. If the plug still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install the proper wall outlet. Do not change the equipment plug, extension cord receptacle, or extension cord plug in any way.

Assembly

Note: Refer to Figures section at the back of the manual. Note: Always turn off unit and unplug from electrical outlet

before adding or switching attachments.

Blower

1. Slide tube onto blower outlet until tabs on tube snap into latch

(Fig. 2).

2. Install inlet cover. Inlet cover must be securely locked into

position, activating interlock switch, before blower will operate (Fig. 1).

Note: Blower tube must be attached to housing when operating in the blower mode.

Note: Noise reduction is achieved in blower mode only.

Vacuum

1. Grasp inlet cover and rotate it counterclockwise to remove

(Fig. 1).

Before Starting

Securing Extension Cord

Use only a UL listed (CSA certified in Canada) extension cord recommended for outdoor use. Refer to Extension Cord Chart on page 1.

1. Secure extension cord in cord lock (Fig. 12 & 13).

2. Make sure the extension cord is fully seated on inlet plug.

POTENTIAL HAZARD

• The extension cord may not be fully seated on inlet

plug.

WHAT CAN HAPPEN

• A loosely connected extension cord could lead to

overheating and cause a fire.

HOW TO AVOID THE HAZARD

• Make sure the extension cord is fully seated on inlet

plug and ALWAYS USE THE CORD LOCK FEATURE to ensur e that cord remains secured during operation (Fig. 12 & 13).

POTENTIAL HAZARD

• Motor impeller rotates for a few seconds after blower

is turned off.

WHAT CAN HAPPEN

• Rotating impeller can cut or injure fingers. HOW TO AVOID THE HAZARD

• Never remove inlet cover when motor is operating or

when unit is plugged in.

2. Assemble vacuum tubes by pressing tubes together (Fig. 3).

Line up arrows on outside of tubes to ensure correct assembly.

3. Hold vacuum tubes vertically and place blower inlet over top

of tube (Fig. 4). Tubes will only fit one way in blower inlet.

4. Rotate unit clockwise until pointer on vacuum tube aligns with

pointer on housing (Fig. 5, 6 & 7).

Note: V acuum tube and housing pointers must be aligned at locked position before blower will operate.

5. Slide bag collar into bag opening until bag collar flange is past

the V elcrot strap (Fig. 8). Line up bag seam with tab on collar . Tighten Velcro strap to secure bag to collar (Fig. 8). Close bag zipper. Bag should appear as shown in Figure 9 when correctly assembled.

Operation

This appliance is intended for household use only.

POTENTIAL HAZARD

• Debris can be blown by unit in operator’s or

bystander’s direction.

WHAT CAN HAPPEN

• Flying debris can cause serious personal injury to

operator or bystanders.

HOW TO AVOID THE HAZARD

• Never blow hard objects such as nails, bolts and rocks.

• Always wear safety goggles or other suitable eye

protection, long pants and shoes while operating unit.

• Never operate unit near bystanders or pets.

• Use extra care when cleaning debris from stairs or

tight areas.

Starting/Stopping (Fig. 14)

1. To turn unit on, move switch to the ‘|’ position.

2. To turn unit of f, move switch to the ‘O’ position. An arrow and

the word “OFF” on the top of the switch indicate which direction to move the switch.

Emptying Bag

1. Turn unit off. Disconnect extension cord.

2. Depress both tabs on bag collar to remove bag from unit

(Fig. 10).

3. Unzip bag and shake out debris.

Vacuum (Fig. 15)

POTENTIAL HAZARD

• Debris can be thrown by unit in operator’s or

bystander’s direction.

WHAT CAN HAPPEN

• Flying debris can cause serious personal injury to

operator or bystanders.

HOW TO AVOID THE HAZARD

• Never operate vacuum without vacuum bag.

• Always make sure bag zipper is closed when unit is in

use.

POTENTIAL HAZARD

• Sharp, pointed or hard objects can be thrown through

the collection bag.

WHAT CAN HAPPEN

• Thrown objects can cause serious personal injury to

the operator or bystanders.

HOW TO AVOID THE HAZARD

• Do not vacuum up sharp, pointed or hard objects such

as wires, staples, nails or rocks.

1. With vac tubes and bag attached, pick up unit by vac tube

handle and housing handle. Bag should be positioned fairly low at your side. Place bag strap over shoulder and adjust length to fit.

2. Turn unit on.

3. Swing unit slowly back and forth over leaves to be vacuumed.

Do not force tube into pile of debris.

IMPORTANT

• This unit is designed to pick up and shred dry leaves and

other light, leafy debris.

• Do not attempt to pick up stones, gravel, broken glass,

twigs, bark, acorns or pine cones as severe damage to fan blades may result.

• Do not tip vacuum tubes upright and force feed debris into

tubes.

If the unit should start to vibrate or make abnormal noise, stop the unit, unplug the cord and check for cause.

Maintenance

Clogging

If the unit becomes clogged with debris, the obstruction can usually be cleared by turning the unit off and then promptly compressing the bag while it is still inflated, thereby forcing air back out through the vacuum tubes. This reverse airflow is usually sufficient to dislodge most obstructions.

If the restriction cannot be cleared by compressing the bag, then proceed with caution as follows:

1. Turn off and unplug unit.

2. Remove vacuum tubes.

3. Using a small stick or rod, carefully reach into impeller

opening and clear out debris.

Bag Cleaning

Do not store debris in vacuum bag. Empty bag after each use. After three uses, clean bag thoroughly. Turn bag inside out and shake out dust and excess debris vigorously. Once a year, if necessary, wash the bag by hand in soapy water.

POTENTIAL HAZARD

• Under normal usage, the bag material is subject to

deterioration and wear.

WHAT CAN HAPPEN

• Small objects could pass through a worn or damaged

bag and be thrown in direction of operator or bystanders and cause serious personal injury.

HOW TO AVOID THE HAZARD

• Check bag frequently for wear or deterioration. If bag

is damaged, replace it with a genuine TORO part.

Impeller Replacement

If a loss of performance is detected while operating blower, unplug unit, remove inlet cover, and check impeller blades for wear. If blades are severely worn, see your Authorized TORO Service Dealer for a new impeller.

Servicing Double-insulated Appliance

In a double-insulated appliance, two systems of insulation are provided instead of grounding. No grounding means is provided on a double-insulated appliance, nor should a means for grounding be added to the appliance. Servicing a double-insulated appliance requires extreme care and knowledge of the system, and should be done only by qualified service personnel. Replacement parts for a double-insulated appliance must be identical to the parts they replace. A double-insulated appliance is marked with the words “DOUBLE INSULATION” or “DOUBLE INSULATED.” The

La fiche de l’appareil ne peut rentrer dans la fiche femelle d’un prolongateur polarisé que dans un sens. Si elle ne rentre pas dans un sens, essayer dans l’autre. Si elle ne rentre pas non plus dans l’autre sens, se procurer un autre prolongateur polarisé, de type approprié. Le prolongateur polarisé doit être branché dans une prise de courant polarisée. La fiche mâle du prolongateur polarisé ne peut s’enficher dans une prise de courant polarisée que dans un sens. Si elle ne rentre pas dans un sens, essayer dans l’autre. Si elle ne rentre toujours pas, s’adresser à un électricien qualifié pour qu’il place une prise de courant appropriée. La fiche de l’appareil et les fiches du prolongateur ne peuvent en aucun cas être modifiées.
