To prevent accidental starting of the engine
while installing kit, rotate ignition key to off and remove it from the switch. Next, pull wire off spark plug and make sure wire does not accidentally touch the plug.
Disassembly
1. Tip unit forward onto auger opening and remove
wheels and wheel washers (if so equipped). Lift latch arm, manually shift axle to rear position and release latch arm (Fig. 1).
2. A new lower belt cover must be installed on
machines with serial numbers beginning with “8” or “9.” If serial number does not start with “8” or “9,” proceed to step 3.
Drain
1. Close fuel shut–off valve located under fuel
2. Place a clean drain pan under shut–off valve.
Gasoline
tank.
Since gasoline is highly flammable, drain it
outdoors and make sure engine is cool to prevent a potential fire hazard. Wipe up any gasoline that may have spilled. Do not drain gasoline near any open flame or where gasoline fumes may be ignited by a spark. Do not smoke a cigar, cigarette or a pipe when handling gasoline.
3. Loosen hose clamps securing fuel line to valve
and slide line off valve.
A. Remove lower belt cover fasteners, remove
and discard cover (Fig. 2).
B. Mount new belt cover and secure with
fasteners previously removed.
3. Depending on model, remove either a thread
forming screw or 1/2–13 nut from R.H. pivot arm (Fig. 3).
4. Remove shoulder bolt and nut from R.H. pivot
arm and slide pivot arm off axle (Fig. 3).
5. Loosen flange head capscrews (2 each side)
securing transmission frame to engine frame (Fig. 4).
6. Pull transmission frame down until capscrews
bottom out in slots of engine frame (Fig. 4 & 5).
7. Remove mounting screws securing R.H. and
L.H. chain guards to frame. Discard R.H. chain guard (Fig. 6).
8. Remove chain master link and remove chain
(Fig. 7).
4. Open valve allowing fuel to drain into pan.
5. Reinstall fuel line and secure with hose clamp.
9. Slide axle/sprocket assembly out of L.H. pivot
arm. Remove roll pins and washers and retain for later assembly (Fig. 8).
