Before Using the Coffeemaker for the First Time
Before preparing coffee in your new Coffeemaker, thoroughly clean the Mug, Removable Permanent Coffee Filter and Removable Filter Basket in hot, sudsy water. Rinse and dry. Replace disassembled parts. Clean the inside of the Coffeemaker by brewing one full Mug of tap water (see "Brewing Coffee"). Repeat this step. Do not place coffee in Removable Permanent Coffee Filter for this initial cleaning.
NOTE: At the end of first cycle, turn Coffeemaker off and wait ten minutes. Turn unit on and brew second Mug of water.
Removable Permanent Coffee Filter
The Removable Permanent Coffee Filter included with your Coffeemaker eliminates the need for disposable paper filters. It is specially designed to fit into the Removable Filter Basket. Check to make sure the round recessed area fits easily into the groove of the Removable Filter Basket. The Tab on the Removable Filter Basket must be placed
in either the 2 o’clock position or the 7 o’clock position, otherwise the Lid will not close properly.
Operating Instructions
Toasting Bread
1. Be sure no bread or other objects are inside the Toasting Slot. Place Toaster on a flat, level, heat resistant surface and plug the power cord into a 120V AC electrical outlet.
2. Position the Browning Selector Control to desired setting. Setting #1 will be the lightest shade setting and setting #5 will be the darkest shade setting. Adjust each subsequent toasting to your preference.
3. Remove all protective wrappings from food before placing into the Toasting Slots. Avoid toasting torn bread slices that may get lodged in Toasting Slot.
4. Insert the bread into the Toasting Slots. Lower the Toasting Lever until it locks into place. The centering guides will automatically center the bread for even toasting. When the bread is lowered into position, it will automatically begin to toast.
NOTE: To prevent a fire hazard, never place bread over the opening of the Toaster, but always place it into the Toasting Slots.
NOTE: DO NOT change the Browning Selector Control selection during the toasting cycle.
5.
When the toast reaches the selected browning level, it will pop up automatically.
6
Page 8
6. To interrupt toasting, turn the Browning Selector Control to “Cancel.”
7. Remove bread from Toasting Slots. Use care when removing bread as the bread and Toaster will still be hot.
8. Unplug cord from wall outlet when not in use.
IMPORTANT: Never use a fork or sharp-edged utensil to remove toast, because that may damage the heating element or cause injury.
Convenience Food Toasting
Extra wide Toasting Slots accommodate many varieties of packaged convenience food available today, both frozen and non-frozen (shelf pastry). Since toaster foods and individual tastes vary, it is difficult to recommend exact Browning Control settings. However, after a little experimentation you will discover the best setting for your needs. You may also wish to refer to the heating instructions on food packaging.
Pastry
For best results, follow the instructions printed on the pastry package. If the package does not have instructions, position the Browning Selector Control to Medium (mid-way between the lightest and darkest setting). Some pastries may require a second toasting cycle.
NOTE: Do not use this Toaster for toasting pastry items with runnytype frosting or open fillings.
Non-Frozen Shelf Pastry
Move the Browning Selector Control to a lighter setting. For thicker convenience foods, it may be necessary to turn the Browning Selector Control clockwise for a longer toasting cycle.
Automatic Centering Guides
Lowering the Toasting Lever closes the Centering Guides, and holds the bread or toaster food centrally in the Toasting Slots.
NOTE: The Toasting Lever will not lock down unless the Toaster is plugged into an electrical outlet.
Removing Lodged Foods
If a piece of bread or any other appliance food becomes lodged in either of the Toasting Slots, unplug the appliance and allow it to cool. Hold the Toasting Lever down. Turn the appliance upside down and shake the food loose. If brewing coffee, wait until the brew cycle is complete and the unit has completely cooled, before turning the Toaster upside down and shaking the food loose.
IMPORTANT: Never use a fork or sharp-edged utensil to remove toast, because that may damage the heating element or cause injury.
NOTE: Always remove Mug before cleaning or moving the appliance.

Important Points
• Remove all protective wrappings from food before placing in the Toasting Slot.
• For best results, clean the Crumb Tray frequently.
• Different breads require different color settings.
• Do not block top opening. Do not place any object over the top opening.
• Do not toast buttered bread or buttered pita bread. Melted butter will cause fire.
• When toasting more than one slice of bread, use slices of similar size, thickness and freshness.
• Stale bread, thin bread or sweet bread products, such as teacakes and fruit loaf, brown much more quickly than ordinary bread, so they should be toasted on the lighter settings.
• Never immerse appliance, cord or plug in water or other liquid.
• Never use a fork or sharp-edged utensil to remove toast, because
that may damage the heating element or cause injury.
Brewing Coffee
1. Plug into a 120V AC outlet.
2. Make sure unit is powered OFF. The Indicator Light will not be illuminated.
IMPORTANT: Place Coffeemaker on a level surface.
3. Lift up the hinged Lid and fill to the MAX marking on the inside of the Water Reservoir with cold, fresh water.
CAUTION:
TAKE CARE NOT TO POUR WATER OR ALLOW ANY WATER TO POUR, DRIP OR SPLASH INTO THE TOASTING SLOTS! IF THE TOASTER APPEARS TO BE WET, UNPLUG THE UNIT AND ALLOW TO DRY THOROUGHLY BEFORE NEXT USE.
IMPORTANT: If cream or milk will be added to the Mug, use less water for brewing.
4. For optimal holding temperature, rinse the inside of the Mug with warm water before brewing. Place the Mug in the recessed area under the Water Reservoir.
5. Insert the Removable Permanent Coffee Filter into the Removable Filter Basket and add coffee grounds. Use approximately 1 to 1-1/2 tablespoons for a Mug of coffee. Close Lid.
8
Page 10
6. Make sure the Mug is in the recessed area under the Water Reservoir. Press Power Switch to turn the Coffeemaker ON. The Indicator Light will illuminate. Brew time is approximately 4 minutes.
CAUTION: Avoid contact with heated water. IMPORTANT: Do not remove Mug until the Indicator light has turned
off and last drops of coffee flow into the Mug.
7. After Indicator Light turns off, the Mug may be safely removed.
8. If brewing more than one cycle, allow unit to cool for 4 minutes between cycles.
NOTE: To stop the Coffeemaker during the brewing process, press the Power Switch to OFF.
NOTE: Coffeemaker will shut-off automatically once the coffee brewing cycle is completed.
Helpful Hints for Brewing
• Always use fresh, cold water for brewing. In areas with hard water or where water contains a high mineral content, use cold filtered water for optimal coffee taste.
• For best results, use the Removable Permanent Coffee Filter.
Descaling
We recommend that you descale your Coffeemaker once a month because mineral deposits can form a coating in the Coffeemaker, causing slower brewing time and possibly an off flavor in the coffee. Use a cleaner recommended for Coffeemakers. To descale your unit:
1. Pour 2 ounces of vinegar or coffee cleaner into the Water Reservoir. Add slightly less than one full Mug of water to allow for 2 oz. of vinegar.
2. Place the Removable Permanent Coffee Filter in the Removable Filter Basket and close Lid. Place the Mug in the recessed area under the Water Reservoir.
3. Follow “Brewing Coffee” (without coffee).
4. When the Indicator Light turns off, wait 15 minutes and pour solution from Mug back into the Water Reservoir. Be sure that the Removable Filter Basket is still in proper position.
5. Turn unit on again. Allow all solution to empty into Mug. When Indicator Light turns off, discard solution.
6. Allow unit to cool 10 minutes. To rinse unit, fill Water Reservoir with one Mug of fresh, cold water. Insert the Removable Permanent Coffee Filter into Removable Filter Basket. Close Lid. Place the Mug in the recessed area under the Water Reservoir and turn the power ON.
7. At end of cycle, allow unit to cool, discard water. Wash and dry Mug and other removable parts.
8. Unplug the appliance from outlet. When the appliance has cooled, wipe exterior with a damp cloth.
