How the Digital Heart Rate Monitor Works

Th e Heart Rat e Mon itor is a com bination of a Heart Rate S e n s o r
and a sport wat ch. The Heart Ra te Senso r a t ta ches t o yo ur chest
and me a s ures the e lectrical signals ge ne rated by the he art as it is
beating. Using this inform ation, it then calculates you r heart rate
and transmits it to your w a tch. You simply glance at the watch
during e xe rcise /tra ining to m a ke s ure you a re in the a ppro priate
heart rate range to maintain or imp rove your fitness le ve l.

How to Use the Digital Heart Rate M onitor

1. Wet the Heart Rate Se nsor p a ds . THIS IS ESSENTIAL for proper
ope rat ion of the He art Rate Monitor.

2.Put on the che s t s t rap. Faste n the s t rap
snugly around your c he s t ,just be low
th e bre asts. Be sure th e tra n s m itter is
cente red on the c he s t a nd is right side
up so the logo can be re a d b y someone
facing you .

3.Sta rt the Hea rt Rate Monitor: Refe r to the
user manua l for your watch for detailed

Speed + Distance Sensor

How the Speed and Distance System Works

Th e Spee d + Distance (S+D) Sensor a cquires s ign a ls from orbiting
GPS (Glob al Positioning Syste m) satellite s t o dete rmine your position
and cha n ges in position anywhere on th e globe. Th is information
is transmitt e d w ire les s ly to your watch so tha t it can compute
your spe ed, pace and distance tra v e l e d . For a dditional information
on determ ining your speed a nd distanc e , see t he ins tru ction s for
your w a tch.

About GPS Lock Times

• On first use, t he S+D Sensor ca n ta ke up to 5 minut e s or e ve n
longe r to e s ta blish a link w it h t he satellit e s. After tha t,the un it
typically ne eds only one m inute .

• If you move hundre ds o f m ile s from the location w he re yo u last

used the S+D Sensor or if you lea ve the S+D Sensor po w e red up
indoo rs for lo ng period s of tim e be fore going out door s, the search
may ta ke longe r than exp e c te d .

• For shortest GPS lock t ime s , try to minimize move me n t w hile
th e in d icator light is flas hing red.

Wearing the Speed and Distance S+D Sensor

For best results , strap the S+D Sensor t o yo ur uppe r arm . You may
also clip it to you r waist. Wear you r watch so it is always with in
1 mete r (ab out 3 fee t ) of the S+D Sensor. Be s u re the s e nsor is
right s ide up s o t he GPS logo can be read by s o m eo n e facing you.
Any cloth ing worn over the S+D Sens o r m u s t b e dry a n d free o f
me tal.

Operating the S+D Sensor

For best results , the Sensor n e e ds a cle a r view of the s ky.

• Press a nd hold th e S+D SENSOR ON/ OFF button to t u rn on the
re c e ive r. You shou ld be o utdoors in an open a rea.If th e but ton
light glow s re d im m ediate ly (continuous ly, no t flashing),the ba t ­te ry is e xha u s t e d to th e point whe re GPS o p e ration is n ot possi­ble and the ba t te ry m u s t b e replace d.The ON/OFF bu tton on
th e S+D Sensor will initially flas h red w hile the S+D Sensor cal­culates its position re lative to the GPS sate llites. The te xt
“SEARCHING”ma y app e ar on the w a tch display if using a com ­patible Tim ex® w a t ch.

• The ON/OFF butt on w ill flash gre e n w h e n th e S+D Sensor h a s
succ e s s fully ac quire d s igna ls from the sate llite s. Sp e ed a nd
distance information is no w be ing transmitt e d to th e watc h (or
oth e r de vice).

• To turn o ff the S+D Sensor, pre s s and hold the S+D SENSOR

ON/OFF bu tton for one s ec ond.The bu tton will glow red while

you are holding the b utton and the n go out,indicating tha t th e
S+D Se nsor ha s s hut down.

• The S+D Se n s or will shut itse lf off autom at ically if any of the
follow ing eve nts occur:

elastic s tra p into the slot of the S+D Sensor as shown.(Fig. 2)

• Slide t he elastic s tra p th rough the open e nd of the a t ta chme n t,
and fix it in place w ith the hook a nd loop closure.

• Slip th e sensor a n d s tra p ove r your ha n d a n d o n to your
upp e r a rm. Watc h m us t b e worn on s a m e arm .(Fig. 3)

• Pull armband through the a djus t a b le e nd s o t ha t it fits snugly

around your a rm.

Replace battery

• Flip out the half-circ le h a n dle on the b a tte ry hatch (lo c a te d o n
th e side of th e S&D Se nsor case) and turn it cou nter-clockwise
to un s c rew.

• Rem o ve the batt e ry hatch.

• Rem o ve old battery and ins e rt one (1) ne w AA b a t te ry. Observe
th e +/- m arkings inside the ba t te ry compart m e nt to e nsure th e
new battery is properly a ligned.

• Replac e the ba tte ry hatch and tight e n the cap by turn ing clock­w i s e. Do not ove r-tigh te n.

Maintenance

Rinse th e S+D Sensor a nd its stra p in fre sh wate r pe riodica lly to
avoid bu ildup of materials t hat ca n inte rfere with t he me a s urement
of your spe e d and distance .

Resolving S+D Sensor Errors and Error Messages

PROBLEM

• The S+D Se n s or canno t lock onto GPS sa te llite s (ON/ OFF but ton
never cha nge s to flashing gree n).

• The GPS S+D Sens o r los es signals from t he sate llites d uring use.
Th e watch may d isplay a m e ss a ge that the GPS signal is weak.

SOLUTION

• Move to a m ore op e n o utdoor a rea.

• Move aw a y from m etal object s .

• Replace the ba t te ry in the S+D Sens or.

NOTE:The system c a n m aintain acc uracy for s hort p e riods w h e n
GPS signals are lo s t .

PROBLEM

• Watch disp lays FATAL GPS ERROR me ssage .

SOLUTION

Cómo funciona el sistema de Velocidad y
Distancia

El Medidor de Veloc idad + Distancia (S+D) re cibe se ñ a les d e saté lite s
en órb ita GPS (Sist e m a de Pos icion a m ie n to Global) gra cias a los
cua le s de te rmina su posición y s us c a m bios de p osición e n cu a lquier
pa rte del mundo . Esta información se tra n s m ite inalám bricam e nte a l
re loj para q ue pue da c a lcular su ve lo c idad,paso y distanc ia recorri­da . En las instrucciones d e l re loj encontrará más información sob re
cóm o d e t e rmina r su ve locidad y la distancia re corrida .

Tiempo que demora en localizar el GPS

• La prime ra ve z que s e us a,al Medidor S+D pue de ins um irle ha s t a
5 minu tos (a ve ce s más) en e s t a b lece r el e n lace con los satélite s.
Des p ué s de e s o , norm a lm e nte ne c e sita rá s ólo un minut o .

• Si se tra slada ciento s de millas des de el lugar d o nde u s ó p or última
vez el Medidor de S+D o si lo d e ja e n ce n dido durante largos p e río­do s adentro de c u a lquier e d ificio antes de volver a l a ire lib re, la
localización podrá de mo rar much o m ás tiem po d e lo espera d o.

• Para a c orta r e l t iem po de localización,trate de re ducir a l m ínimo
sus movimiento s mientras la luz d e l indicado r e s té destellando con
color rojo.

4.En unos pocos segun dos e m pe zará a de s te llar e l símbolo de un

corazón e n el re lo j,indicando que e l t rans misor está a ctivado.
Esto confirma que la p ila se instaló co rre c tam e nte.

valor de p ulso.

SI NO APARECIERA UN CORAZÓN DESTELLANDO:

• Vue lva a oprimir e l interrup tor "repone r" d e l c om p a rtimie nto de la

ropa que c ubra el Medidor de S+D, ésta debe estar s e ca y no debe

Funcionamiento del Medidor de S+D

Uso del Medidor de S+D en la parte superior del
brazo

• Quite prim ero el sujetador para cinturón. Pa ra
e l l o, tom e e l s ujetador y sá quelo con c uida do
( F i g. 1 ) . Pa ra volver a co locarlo a line e la
lengüeta del sujetador con la ra n u ra del
medidor y e ncájelo con cuidado en la unidad.

• Si no tu vie ra puesta la tira p a ra e l brazo,
pa se la hebilla plás tica con la tira elás t ica por la ranura de l Medidor
de S+D, tal como s e muestra .(Fig.2)

• Pase la tira elástica p or el ojal de la he billa y asegú rela con el ga n ­cho y cierre de lazo.

• Pase s u m ano por la band a co n e l medidor y colóques e lo e n la
pa rte supe rior de l brazo . El reloj d e b e us a rse e n el mismo bra zo.

• Quite la p ila agotada y co loque un a (1) pila nueva "AA".Observe la

• Vuelva a colocar la cubierta y a jústela sin apretarla de mas iado, d a n d o
vue lta en sentido hora r i o.

Mensajes de error en el M edidor de S+D

PROBLEMA

• El Medidor de S+D no p ue de localizar los s a t é lites GPS (el botón
ON/OFF nu nca s e ve de co lor verde y deste llan d o).

• El Medidor S+D pierde la s eñ a l de los s a té lite s du rante el uso. El
re loj pod ría mostrar un me n s a je q ue indica que la señal de GPS e s
dé bil.

SOLUCIÓN

• Vaya a un sitio má s abie rto al aire libre.

• Alé jese de objetos me tálicos .

• Ree m place la pila de l Med idor d e S+D.

NOTA:el sist e m a mantendrá s u precisión dura n te co rtos períodos
cua n do las s e ñales de GPS se pie rdan.

PROBLEMA
