ERLÄUTERUNG DER GRAFISCHEN SYMBOLE

Das Blitz-Symbol mit dem nach unten weisenden Pfeil im gleichseitigen Dreieck warnt vor “gefährlicher Spannung” im Gehäuseinneren, deren Höhe für eine Gefährdung von Personen durch einen Stromschlag ausreichend ist.

Das Ausrufungszeichen innerhalb des gleichseitigen Dreiecks macht auf wichtige Bedienungs- und Wartungshinweise in der beiliegenden Bedienungsanleitung aufmerksam.

Auspacken und Aufstellen

Nehmen Sie den TEP 3800 vorsichtig aus der Verpackung. Die Innenverpackung besteht aus Schaumformteilen, die einen sicheren Transport gewährleisten. Wir empfehlen Ihnen daher die gesamte Verpackung aufzubewahren.

Lieferumfang:

Stellen Sie den TEP 3800 auf einen festen, sicheren und ebenen Untergrund. Lassen Sie mindestens 10 cm Abstand zu allen Gegenständen hinter und über dem Gerät. Achten Sie unbedingt auf freie Luftzirkulation an der Unterseite des Gerätes.

Blockieren Sie niemals die Lüftungsschlitze auf (oder unter) dem Gehäuse und stellen Sie keine Gegenstände auf dieses.

Betreiben Sie den TEP 3800 niemals...

Der TEP 3800 ist ein Vorverstärker, der entwickelt wurde, um die Signale unterschiedlicher Quellen in bestmöglicher Qualität für Endstufen (z.B. die Monoblöcke Thorens TEM 3200) aufzubereiten.

Nehmen Sie sämtliche Anschlußarbeiten immer bei ausgeschalteter Vor-/Endstufe vor.

Anschlüsse auf der Rückseite

Fix

Das Eingangssignal wird mit festem Wert verstärkt, der Volumenregler wird dabei umgangen. Mithilfe dieses Eingangs können einer oder mehrere TEP 3800 an einen 5.1 oder 7.1 Surroundprozessor angeschlossen werden. Die Lautstärke wird in diesem Fall zentral über den Sourroundprozessor gesteuert.

Tape-in

Eingang zur Verwendung eines Tonbandgerätes als Signalquelle.

Tape-out

Ausgang zur Aufnahme auf ein Tonbandgerät.

Anschluss

CD, Aux1, Aux2, Tuner

Hochpegeleingänge zum Anschluss verschiedener Signalquellen. Die Eingänge CD und Aux1 stehen wahlweise als Cinch oder XLR Eingänge zur Verfügung. Mithilfe des Cinch/XLR-Umschalters auf der Rückseite kann die gewünschte Anschlussart der beiden Eingänge gewählt werden.

Phono

Der TEP 3800 besitzt keinen Phono-Eingang. Zum Anschluss eines Plattenspielers benötigen Sie daher einen zusätzlichen Phonovorverstärker (z.B. den Thorens TEP 302), welcher zwischen den Plattenspieler und einen beliebigen Hochpegeleingang geschlossen wird.

Pre-out

Ausgang zum Anschluss der Endstufe(n). Der TEP 3800 besitzt sowohl einen Cinch, als auch einen XLR Ausgang. Beide Ausgänge stehen gleichzeitig zur Verfügung, unabhängig von der Position des Cinch/XLR-Umschalters auf der Rückseite, welcher nur zur Umschaltung der Eingänge dient.

Sofern die Endstufe einen XLR-Eingang besitzt, sollten Sie XLR verwenden, da das Signal so vollständig symmetrisch übertragen werden kann. Besitzt die Endstufe hingegen nur einen Cinch-Eingang, so sollten Sie auch am TEP 3800 den Cinch-Ausgang verwenden (verwenden Sie keinen XLR/Cinch-Adapter!).

Anschluss

Dank des revolutionären Gegenparallel-Konzeptes erreicht der TEP 3800 eine extrem niedrige Ausgangsimpedanz von weniger als 1 Ohm (XLR-out) – ganz ohne Übertrager in direkter Kopplung und ohne Halbleiterunterstützung nur mit Röhren in der Ausgangsstufe. So können auch sehr lange oder hochkapazitive Verbindungskabel zur Endstufe angeschlossen werden, wobei die einmalige Transparenz und der musikalische Fluss der Wiedergabe gewahrt bleiben. Dadurch können z.B. Monoendstufen wie der Thorens TEM 3200 direkt neben die Lautsprecher platziert werden (Vorteil: kurze Lautsprecherkabel und bestmögliche Kontrolle der Lautsprecher). Die XLR-Ausgänge des TEP 3800 wurden zudem so konzipiert, dass professionelle Aktivlautsprecher (Studiomonitore) mit 600 Ohm Abschlussimpedanz mit exzellenter Qualität auch über lange Kabel angesteuert werden können.

Der TEP 3800 verfügt über eine XLR-Steckerbelegung, die dem internationalen Studiostandard entspricht:

Um den Stecker aus der Buchse zu ziehen, drücken Sie auf die Lasche am oberen Ende der Buchse.

Anschluss

Netzanschluss

Stecken Sie das mitgelieferte 3-adrige Kaltgerätekabel in die Netzanschlussbuchse auf der Rückseite des Geräts ein. Benutzen Sie immer eine Wandsteckdose oder eine Steckdose einer Verlängerungsleiste. Verwenden Sie niemals den Anschluss an einem anderen HiFi-Gerät!

Ziehen Sie den Netzstecker nur, wenn das Gerät zuvor ausgeschaltet wurde.

Benötigte Netzspannung

Siehe Geräterückseite. Schließen Sie den TEP 3800 keinesfalls an ein Stromnetz mit anderer Spannung an, da das Gerät hierdurch schwer beschädigt werden kann!

Leistungsaufnahme

Die Leistungsaufnahme beträgt ca. 100 W. Bitte beachten Sie auch die Angabe auf dem Typenschild des Gerätes.

Bitte verwenden Sie niemals Verlängerungskabel oder Adapter, die für die Leistungsaufnahme des TEP 3800 nicht geeignet sind.

Bedienelemente (Frontseite)

Ein-/Ausschalter und Betriebsanzeige

Durch Drücken des Ein-/Ausschalters (Power) wird der TEP 3800 eingeschaltet. Der blaue THORENS Schriftzug leuchtet auf und die Volumenanzeige blinkt während des Hochfahrens. Sobald die Volumenanzeige dauerhaft leuchtet, ist das Gerät betriebsbereit. Durch erneutes Drücken des Ein-Ausschalters (Power) wird das Gerät wieder ausgeschaltet.

Der TEP 3800 benötigt ungefähr zwei bis drei Minuten bis er vollständig hochgefahren und betriebsbereit ist!

Wichtiger Hinweis zum Dauerbetrieb

Dank der vollautomatischen Regelung sämtlicher Arbeitspunkte und der vollständigen DC-Kopplung aller Verstärkerstufen arbeitet der TEP 3800 schon nach wenigen Minuten Betriebszeit mit den optimalen Parametern. Es somit weder notwendig, noch empfehlenswert, den TEP 3800 ständig eingeschaltet zu lassen. Der Dauerbetrieb führt zu vorzeitigem Verschleiß der Bauteile (insbesondere der Röhren) und verkürzt damit die Lebensdauer des Geräts. Durch den erhöhten Stromverbrauch beim Dauerbetrieb wird zudem die Umwelt unnötig belastet.

Quellenauswahl

Der gewünschte Eingangskanal kann mithilfe des Quellenauswahlschalters ausgewählt werden.

Vor-/Hinterbandschalter (Monitor)

Durch Drücken des Monitor-Schalters können Sie auf das Signal

zugreifen,  welches  sich  am  Tape-in  bendet  (Hinterbandkontrolle). 

Erneutes Drücken kehrt zum Signal der gewählten Quelle zurück.

Diese Funktion kann zur Überprüfung einer laufenden Aufnahme oder zur Einschleifung eines externen Geräts verwendet werden. Im Tonstudio kann sie zur Einschleifung eines Hallgeräts oder eines Soundprozessors von Nutzen sein.

Volumenregler

Die Lautstärke kann über den Volumenregler stufenlos eingestellt werden. Der Stand des Reglers wird mittels präzise projezierten Lichtspottes vollständig analog angezeigt.

Mit diesem Schalter wird der Regelbereich für „laute“ Quellen wie z.B. CD-Player deutlich erweitert. Der meistgenutzte mittlere Lautstärkebereich wird herausgezoomt, so dass eine sehr feinfühlige Einstellmöglichkeit der Lautstärke auch bei Nutzung der Fernbedienung gegeben ist. Dies ist insbesondere bei niedrigen Hörlautstärken oder sehr lauten Signalquellen von Vorteil.

Mute

Durch einmaliges Drücken des Mute-Schalters werden die Ausgänge des TEP 3800 stumm geschaltet. Der Tape-out hingegen bleibt aktiv, so dass Aufnahmen auch durchgeführt werden können, wäh-

rend sich das Gerät im Mute-Modus bendet.

Betrieb

Wiedergabe und Aufnahme von Tonbändern

Wiedergabe: Wählen Sie den Tape Eingang. Sie hören das Ausgangssignal des Tonbandgeräts, welches am Tape-in anliegt.

Aufnahme: Wählen Sie den gewünschten Kanal. Das Signal liegt automatisch am Tape-out an und kann über den Eingang des Tonbandgeräts aufgezeichnet werden.

Mit Hilfe des Monitor-Schalters können Sie die Aufnahmequalität kontrollieren:

Taste nicht gedrückt: Sie hören die Signalquelle (Vorbandkontrolle). Taste gedrückt: Sie hören die gerade laufende Aufnahme (Hinter-

bandkontrolle).

Die Umschaltung erfolgt ohne Beeinussung der laufenden Aufnahme.

Wiedergabe von Schallplatten

Zur Wiedergabe von Schallplatten benötigen Sie einen speziellen Phonovorverstärker (z.B. den Thorens TEP 302), da die Wiedergabe sonst zu leise und verzerrt erfolgt.

Fernbedienung

Mit der Fernbedienung können Sie Quellenauswahl und Lautstärke (Vol +/-) steuern, sowie das Gerät stumm schalten (Mute). Zusätzlich kann über die Fernbedienung die Helligkeit der Anzeigen eingestellt werden. Durch mehrmaliges Drücken der Dimmer-Taste wird die Helligkeit in 5 Stufen reguliert (von ganz aus bis sehr hell).

Um unnötigen Stromverbrauch zu vermeiden und die Umwelt zu schonen, wurde auf eine Stand-By Funktion verzichtet. Das Ein- und Ausschalten des TEP 3800 erfolgt deshalb direkt am Gerät und nicht über die Fernbedienung.

Batteriewechsel

Lösen Sie die vier Schrauben auf der Unterseite der Fernbedienung und entfernen Sie die Abdeckung. Sie können nun die Batterien ersetzen (2 x Typ AAA), achten Sie dabei auf die korrekte Polarität.

Hinweis: Leere Batterien gehören nicht in den Hausmüll!

Wartung und Pege

Reinigung

Der  TEP  3800  benötigt  keine  spezielle  Pege.  Die  Chromblende 

kann mithilfe eines Glasreinigers von Fingerabdrücken befreit und mit einem weichen, glatten Tuch nachpoliert werden. Die Seitenwangen können ebenfalls mit Glasreiniger und einem weichen Tuch abgerieben werden.

Verwenden Sie kein Benzin, Alkohol oder andere leichtüchtige

Substanzen zur Reinigung und achten Sie darauf, dass niemals

Reinigungsüssigkeit in das Innere des Geräts gelangt!

Röhrentausch

Dank der besonders schonenden und automatisch kontrollierten Arbeitsweise im TEP 3800 kann unter normalen Bedingungen mit einer Lebensdauer der Röhren von mehr als 20 Jahren gerechnet werden. Gleichwohl sind im Falle eines Defektes oder einer Fehlfunktion Ersatzröhren verfügbar. Ebenso wie die im Gerät eingesetzten Röhren werden auch diese mit speziellen Prüfvorrichtungen ausgemessen und paarweise selektiert. Weitere Informationen entnehmen Sie bitte den Service- und Garantiebedingungen.

Die im TEM 3800 eingesetzten Röhren dürfen nicht gegen ähnliche oder vermeintlich pin-kompatible Typen ausgetauscht werden, da hierdurch das Gerät zerstört werden kann!

Problembehandlung

Problem: Die Vol.-LED blinkt während des Betriebes (hell/ dunkel).

Gehen Sie wie folgt vor: Prüfen Sie, ob Mute aktiviert ist. Schalten

Sie das Gerät andernfalls mittels des Ein-/Ausschalters (Power) aus und prüfen Sie, ob ein Kurzschluß, bzw. eine versehentliche Erdung an den Ausgängen vorliegt. Die Vorstufe schaltet sich darüber hinaus auch bei einer kurzzeitigen Unterbrechung der Netzspannung ab.

Warten Sie in jedem Fall mindestens eine Minute bevor Sie den TEP 3800 wieder einschalten.

Sollte die Schutzschaltung unmittelbar wieder eingreifen, schalten Sie das Gerät aus und kontaktieren Sie Ihren Fachhändler.

Problem: Der TEP 3800 fährt nicht hoch, bzw. es vergeht sehr viel Zeit bis das Gerät betriebsbereit ist.

Ursache: Um ein langes Röhrenleben zu gewährleisten, ist der TEP

3800 mit einer Soft-Start Funktion ausgerüstet. Diese fährt die Röhrenheizung und -spannung langsam hoch und führt während dessen mehrere Parametertests durch, erst wenn alle Test mit positivem Ergebnis durchgeführt wurden, werden die Ausgänge freigeschaltet. Dieser Prozess kann insgesamt zwei bis drei Minuten dauern.

Sollte das Gerät auch lange nach dieser Zeit nicht hochgefahren sein, prüfen Sie, ob möglicherweise die Schutzschaltung aktiviert wurde (siehe oben). Andernfalls kontaktieren Sie bitte Ihren Fachhändler.

Problem: Eine Signalquelle ist am CD oder AUX1 Eingang angeschlossen, der TEP 3800 gibt jedoch trotz Auswahl des passenden Kanals und aufgedrehtem Volumenregler kein Signal von sich.

Ursache: Die Eingänge CD und AUX1 sind sowohl zum Anschluss

von Geräten über XLR oder Cinch geeignet. Die passende Anschlussart kann mithilfe des Cinch/XLR-Umschalters auf der Rückseite eingestellt werden. Ist die falsche Anschlussart eingestellt so wird kein Signal ausgegeben.

Problembehandlung

Problem: Ein Gegenstand oder Flüssigkeit ist in das Gehäuse des TEP 3800 gelangt.

Gehen Sie wie folgt vor: Schalten Sie das Gerät sofort aus und

ziehen Sie den Netzstecker. Kontaktieren Sie Ihren Fachhändler.

Wenden Sie sich im Falle eines Defekts oder einer Fehlfunktion des Verstärkers bitte an Ihren Fachhändler oder Vertrieb. Versuchen Sie keinesfalls das Gerät selbst zu reparieren!

Unpacking and alignment

Carefully remove the TEP 3800 from the box. The inside packaging consists of styrofoam shaped parts that guarantee a safe transport. We therefore recommend to keep the complete packaging material.

Purchased parts package:

Put the TEP 3800 on a stable, safe and even surface. Leave a distance of at least 10 cm to all objects behind and above the appliance. Implicitly allow for ventilation underneath the appliance.

Never block the ventilation slots on (or on the bottom side of) the cabinet and do not put any items on it.

The TEP  3800  is  a preamplier designed for  purifying  signals  from  different sources at best possible quality for power ampliers (e.g. for 

the monoblock Thorens TEM 3200).

Always conduct connections with pre/ power

ampliers being switched off.

The input signal is amplied with a xed value, thereby bypassing the 

volume control. Using this input you may connect one or several TEP 3800 to a 5.1 or 7.1 surround processor. In such a case the volume is controlled centrally by the surround processor.

High level inputs for connecting different input sources. CD and Aux1 inputs are optionally available as Cinch or XLR inputs. You may select the desired connection method for both inputs using the Cinch/XLR change-over switch.

Phono

The TEP 3800 is not equipped with a phono input. In order to con-

nect a record player, you will need an additional phono preamplier

(e.g. the Thorens TEP 302) that will be joined between the record player and any optional high level input.

Pre-out

Output  for  connecting  the  power  amplier(s).  The  TEP  3800  is 

equipped with both a Cinch and a XLR output. Both outputs are available simultaneously, irrespective of the position of the Cinch/XLR change-over switch on the rear panel, which is only used for switching between inputs.

If the  power amplier is equipped with a XLR  input, you should select XLR, as this way the signal is transmitted completely symmetri-

cally. But if the power amplier is with a Cinch input only, you should 

also use the Cinch output at the TEP 3800 (do not use a XLR/Cinch adapter!).

Installation

Due to the revolutionary DC-coupled counterparallel amplifying concept the TEP 3800 achieves an extremely low output impedance of less than 1 ohm (XLR-out) – entirely without transformer in direct coupling and without semiconductor support, but only with tubes at the output stage. This way you may also connect very long or

high-capacity  connection  cables  to  the  power  amplier,  whereby 

the unique transparency and the musical stream of the playback are

kept. Thereby  you  may  place mono  power  ampliers, such  as  the 

Thorens TEM 3200, directly next to the speakers (advantage: short speaker cables and best possible control of speakers). The design of the TEP 3800 XLR outputs furthermore allows the actuating of professional active speakers (studio monitors) with 600 ohm terminating impedance and with excellent quality even via long cables.

The TEP 3800 is equipped with a XLR connection plug arrangement that complies with international studio standards:

Installation

Connecting to the mains

Connect the included 3-wire cold appliance cable to the mains socket at the rear panel of the appliance. Always use a wall socket or a socket on an extension bar. Never use the connection on another HiFi appliance!

Only pull the mains plug after having switched off the appliance.

Required mains supply

See rear panel of appliance. Do not connect the TEP 3800 to the mains with another voltage, as the appliance might thereby severely be damaged!

On/Off switch and power indicator

Switch on the TEP 3800 by pressing the on/off switch (Power). The blue THORENS script nameplate illuminates and the volume display

ashes during booting up. As soon as the volume display illuminates 

continuously, the appliance is ready for operation. Press on/off switch (Power) to switch off the appliance.

The TEP 3800 takes about two to three minutes until it has entirely powered up and is ready for use!

Important note on continuous operation:

Due to the fully automated control of all operating points and the complete DC coupling of all stages, the TEP 3800 operates with the optimum parameters after a few minutes already. This way it is neither necessary nor recommended to leave the TEP 3800 switched on continuously. Continuous operation will result in early deterioration of the component parts (especially of the tubes) and would hence reduce the lifespan of the appliance. Moreover, increased power consumption through continuous operation pollutes the environment unnecessarily.

Selecting a signal source

Please select the desired input source using the source selection switch.

Source-/tape switch (Monitor)

When pressing the monitor switch, you may access the signal that is located at the tape-in (real-time tape control). Press again to return to the signal of the selected source.

Use this function to check a recording in process or for looping-in an external device. It might be useful for looping-in a reverberator or sound processor in a recording studio.

Volume control

You may  adjust the volume  using the innitely  variable volume control. The position of the control is displayed entirely analog with the help of precisely projected light spots.

-14 dB

This switch considerably expands the control range for “loud” sources such as CD players. The mostly used medium volume range is zoomed out, thus allowing a very sensitive adjusting operation even when using the remote control. This is advantageous, especially with low acoustic volume or very loud signal sources.

Mute

Press the mute switch once to mute the outputs of the TEP 3800. However, the tape-out remains activated in order to conduct recordings even when the device is in mute mode.

Playing and recording audio tapes

Playback: Select the tape input. You will hear the output signal of the tape recorder, which is applied to the tape-in jacks.

Recording: Select the desired channel. The signal is routed automatically to the tape-out jacks and may be recorded through the tape recorder input.

You may control the recording quality using the Monitor switch:

Button not pressed: You listen to the signal source. Button pressed: You will listen to the recording in process.

The switching occurs without interfering the recording in process.

Playing records

You will need a special phono amplier for playing records (e.g. the 

Thorens TEP 302), as the playback will be turned down and distorted otherwise.

Remote control

Using the remote control you may control the source selection and volume adjustment (Vol +/-), as well as mute the device (Mute). Furthermore you may use the remote control to adjust the brightness of the display. Press the Dimmer switch several times to adjust the brightness in 5 levels (from completely off to very bright).

To avoid unnecessary power consumption and to preserve the environment, a standby function has been left out. Switching on and off the TEP 3800 has thus to be conducted on the unit and not via remote control.

Replacing batteries

Loosen the four screws on the bottom side of the remote control and remove the cover. You may now replace the batteries (2 x type AAA), please observe the correct polarity.

Do not dispose of used batteries in the domestic waste!

Maintenance and care

Care

The TEP 3800 does not require any special care. You may remove

ngerprints  from  the  chrome  faceplate  using  a  glass  cleaner  and  polish with  a  soft,  at  cloth.  Rub  off the side  anges,  also  using a 

glass cleaner and soft cloth.

Do not use benzene, alcohol or other lightly volatile substances for cleaning ,and be careful not to allow cleaning liquids to enter the unit!

Replacing tubes

Due to the notably gentle and automatically controlled mode of operation in the TEP 3800, you may under normal conditions anticipate a lifespan of the tubes of more than 20 years. At the same time there are replacement tubes available in case of a defect or malfunctioning. Like the tubes in the appliance, those tubes are also measured with special testing devices and selected in pairs. Please read the service and warranty conditions for more information.

You may not replace the tubes in the TEM 3800 by similar or supposedly pin-compatible types, as the appliance might be destroyed thereby!

Trouble-shooting

Problem: Vol.-LED ashes during operation (bright/dark).

Proceed as follow: Check whether Mute is activated. Otherwise, switch off the unit using the on/off switch (Power) and check, if a short circuit or accidental grounding has occurred. Beyond that the pre

amplier also switches off in case of temporary current interruptions. 

In either case, please wait at least one minute before you switch on the TEP 3800 again.

If the protective circuit engages again immediately, switch off the unit and contact your specialist dealer.

Problem: The TEP 3800 does not boot up, or needs a very long time until ready-to-operate.

Cause: The TEP 3800 is equipped with a soft-start function in order

to allow for a long lifespan of the tubes. This function slowly boots up the tube heating and voltage and in the meantime conducts several parameter tests; only after the tests have been conducted with positive results the outputs will be activated. This process might take 2 to 3 minutes in total.

If the unit hasn’t powered up for long after that time, check whether the protective circuit has possibly been engaged (see above). Please contact your specialist dealer otherwise.

Problem: An external device like CD-Player is connected to CD- or Aux1-input, volume is turned on but the TEP 3800 remains silent

Cause: The inputs CD and Aux1 have two options for connection:

XLR- and Cinch-connectors. Please check if the switch on the rear side is looking to the connection which is used, e.g. if the Cinchconnector is used but the switch on the rear side is switched into the XLR-position, the input signal from the Cinch-input cannot be ampli-

ed. The switch has to be moved into the Cinch-position.  

Trouble-shooting

Problem: An object or liquid has entered the cabinet of the TEP 3800.

Proceed as follows: Immediately switch off the unit and pull the

mains plug. Contact your specialist dealer.

Le TEP 3800 est un préamplicateur qui a été développé pour traiter 

avec la meilleure qualité possible, des signaux en provenance de dif-

férentes sources, destinés aux amplicateurs de  puissance (par ex. 

les monoblocs Thorens TEM 3200).

préampli /amplicateurs sont hors tension.

Raccordements en façade arrière

Fix

Le signal d’entrée est amplié à une valeur xe, le réglage de volume 

est contourné. A l’aide de cette entrée, on peut raccorder un ou pusieurs TEP 3800 à un processeur surround 5.1 ou 7.1. Dans ce cas, le volume est piloté de façon centrale par le processeur surround.

Entrée pour utilisation d’un magnétophone comme signal d’entrée.

Raccordement

Entrées de haut niveau pour le raccordement de différentes sources de signal. Les entrées CD et Aux1 sont disponibles, au choix, en entrée Cinch ou XLR. A l’aide du commutateur inverseur Cinch/XLR situé en façade arrière, on peut sélectionner le type de raccordement souhaité des deux entrées.

Phono

Le TEP 3800 ne possède pas d’entrée phono. C’est pourquoi vous avez besoin d’un préamplicateur phono supplémentaire pour le raccordement d’une platine (par ex. le Thorens TEP 302), qui est raccordé entre la platine et une entrée quelconque de haut niveau.

Pre-out

Sortie pour le  raccordement du ou des  amplicateurs  de sortie. Le 

TEP 3800 possède une sortie Cinch, mais aussi une sortie XLR. Les deux sorties sont disponibles simultanément, indépendamment de la position du commutateur inverseur Cinch/XLR situé sur la façade arrière, qui ne sert qu’à la commutation des entrées.

Si  l’amplicateur  de  puissance  est  équipé d’une  entrée  XLR, vous 

devriez utiliser XLR, car le signal peut alors être transmis entièrement symétriquement. Si, par contre, l’amplicateur de puissance ne possède qu’une entrée Cinch, vous devriez alors aussi utiliser la sortie Cinch du TEP 3800. (n’utilisez pas d’adaptateur XLR/Cinch !).

Raccordement

Grâce au révolutionnaire concept contre-parallèle, le TEP 3800 atteint une impédance de sortie extrêmement faible inférieure à 1 Ohm (XLR-out) entièrement sans translateur, en couplage direct et sans l’assistance de semiconducteurs, seulement avec des tubes dans l’étage de sortie. On peut ainsi raccorder des câbles très longs ou de capacité élevée à l’étage de sortie, tout en préservant toute la

transparence et la musicalité du ux de la reproduction. Ceci permet  par exemple,  de  placer  des amplicateurs de  sortie  mono  comme 

le Thorens TEM 3200 directement à côté des haut-parleurs (avantage : câbles de haut-parleurs courts et meilleur contrôle possible des haut-parleurs).

D’autre part, les sorties XLR du TEP 3800 ont été conçues de façon à ce que des haut-parleurs actifs professionnels (studiomoniteurs) avec impédance de sortie de 600 Ohm puissent être pilotés avec une excellente qualité, même en utilisant des câbles de grande longueur.

Raccordement

Raccordement au secteur

Insérez l’extrémité du câble secteur à trois conducteurs livré dans la prise secteur à l’arrière de l’appareil. Utilisez toujours une prise murale ou une prise de prolongateur. Ne raccordez jamais l’appareil à un autre appareil HiFi !

Ne retirez la che secteur que lorsque l’appareil a

été préalablement mis hors tension.

Tension secteur nécessaire

Voir au dos de l’appareil. Ne raccordez en aucun cas le TEP 3800 à un réseau secteur ayant une tension différente, cela pourrait provoquer de graves dommages à l’appareil !

Puissance absorbée

La puissance absorbée est d’environ 100 W. Veuillez aussi respecter les données mentionnées sur la plaquette signalétique de l’appareil.

N’utilisez jamais des câbles prolongateurs ou des adaptateurs qui ne correspondent pas à la puissance absorbée par le TEP 3800.

Eléments de commande (Façade avant)

Commutateur Marche/Arrêt et voyant de mise sous tension

La mise en marche du TP 3800 s’obtient à l’aide du commutateur Marche/Arrêt (Power). Le logo bleu THORENS s’allume et l’indicateur de volume clignote pendant la montée en température. Dès que l’indicateur de volume s’arrête de clignoter, l’appareil est opérationnel. Un nouvel appui sur le bouton Marche/Arrêt (Power) met l’appa- reil hors tension.

Le TEP 3800 a besoin d’environ deux à trois minutes pour se mettre en température et être opérationnel !

Information importante pour une utilisation continue :

Grâce à la régulation entièrement automatique de tous les points de travail et  du  couplage DC  complet  de  tous les  étages  d’amplication, le TP 3800 travaille avec des paramètres optimaux, déjà après quelques minutes de fonctionnement. En conséquence, il n’est ni nécessaire ni recommandé de laisser le TP 3800 en permanence sous tension. L’utilisation continue conduit à une usure prématurée des composants (en particulier des tubes) et réduit donc la durée de vie de l’appareil. L’augmentation de la consommation de courant en fonctionnement continu pèse inutilement sur la qualité de l’environnement.

Utilisation

Sélection des sources

Le canal d’entrée souhaité peut être sélectionné à l’aide du sélecteur de sources.

Commutateur de monitoring (Monitor)

En appuyant sur le bouton Monitor vous pouvez accédez au signal, qui se trouve au tape-in (contrôle aval immédiat du signal). Un nouvel appui renvoit au signal de la source sélectionnée.

Cette fonction peut être utilisée pour le contrôle d’un enregistrement en cours ou pour le bouclage d’un appareil externe. Dans un studio d’enregistrement, elle peut être utile pour l’insertion d’un générateur de réverbération ou d’un processeur de son.

Réglage du volume

Le volume peut être réglé de façon continue par le bouton de réglage

du volume. La position du réglage est afchée de façon entièrement 

analogique par des points lumineux projetés avec précision.

Avec ce commutateur, la plage de réglage peut être nettement étendue, pour des sources «élevées» comme par exemple celles des lecteurs de CD. La plage centrale de volume la plus souvent utilisée, est littéralement zoomée, de façon à ce qu’un réglage très sensible du volume soit également possible avec l’utilisation de la télécommande. Ceci est un avantage, particulièrement pour de faibles niveaux sonores d’écoute ou pour les sources de signal très élevées.

Mute

En appuyant une fois sur le commutateur Mute, toutes les sorties du TEP 3800 sont mises en sourdine. Par contre le Tape-out reste actif,

an que des enregistrements puissent être effectués, même lorsque 

l’appareil se trouve en mode Mute.

Utilisation

Reproduction et enregistrement de bandes sonores

Reproduction : sélectionnez l’entrée Tape. Vous entendez le signal de sortie du magnétophone, qui est présent sur Tape-in.

Enregistrement : sélectionnez le canal souhaité. Le signal est automatiquement transmis sur Tape-out et peut être enregistré à l’entrée du magnétophone.

Vous pouvez contrôler la qualité de l’enregistrement avec le commutateur Monitor :

Bouton non enfoncé : vous écoutez la source du signal (contrôle amont). Bouton enfoncé : vous écoutez l’enregistrement en cours (contrôle aval).

La commutation se  fait  sans  aucune  inuence sur l’enregistrement 

en cours.

Reproduction de disques

Pour la reproduction de disques vous aurez besoin d’un préamplicateur phono spécial (par exemple le Thorens TEP 302), car la reproduction serait trop faible et affectée de distorsions.

Télécommande

Avec la télécommande, vous pouvez commander la sélection des sources et le volume (Vol +/-), ainsi que mettre l’appareil en sourdine (Mute). De plus, la télécommande peut régler la luminosité des af-

cheurs. La  luminosité peut être réglée à cinq niveaux en appuyant 

plusieurs fois sur la touche Dimmer (de complètement éteint à très clair).

Pour éviter une consommation électrique inutile et épargner l’environnement, on a renoncé à la fonction Stand-By. C’est pourquoi, la mise en Marche et l’Arrêt du TEP 3800 s’effectue directement sur l’appareil et non via la télécommande.

Remplacement des piles

Desserrez les quatre vis situées à l’arrière de la télécommande et retirez le couvercle. Vous pouvez maintenant remplacer les piles (2 x

Type AAA), veuillez à la bonne polarité des piles. Les piles usagées ne doivent pas être jetées avec les déchets ménagers !

Maintenance et entretien

Nettoyage

Le TEP 3800 ne nécessite aucun entretien particulier. On peut retirer les traces de doigts sur la surface chromée avec un produit de nettoyage pour vitres et le polir à l’aide d’un chiffon doux et lisse. Les faces latérales peuvent également être nettoyées avec un produit nettoyant pour vitres et un chiffon doux.

N’utilisez pas d’essence, d’alcool ou d’autres substances volatiles pour le nettoyage et veillez à ce qu’aucun liquide de nettoyage ne pénètre à l’intérieur de l’appareil !

Remplacement des tubes

Grâce au mode de travail avec contrôle automatique ménageant les composants du TEP 3800, on peut dans des conditions normales d’utilisation, compter sur une durée de vie des tubes de plus de 20 ans. En cas de défaut ou de dysfonctionnement, des tubes de rechange sont disponibles. Tout comme les tubes installés d’origine dans l’appareil, ces derniers sont également testés et apairés à l’aide d’instruments de contrôle spéciaux. Les tubes montés dans le TEM 3800 ne doivent pas être remplacés par des tubes avec brochage de type similaire ou prétendument compatible, car cela pourrait détruire l’appareil !

Problèmes et solutions

Problème : la LED Vol. clignote pendant l’utilisation (clair/ sombre).

Procédez comme suit : vériez si Mute est activé. Dans la négative, 

mettez l’appareil hors tension à l’aide du commutateur Marche/Arrêt

(Power) et vériez s’il n’y a pas un court-circuit ou une mise à la terre  involontaire aux sorties. D’autre part, le préamplicateur se met aussi 

à l’arrêt en cas de coupure secteur de courte durée.

Dans ce cas, attendez au moins une minute avant de remettre le TEP 3800 sous tension.

Si le circuit de protection intervenait de nouveau, mettez l’appareil hors tension et prenez contact avec votre revendeur.

Problème : le TEP 3800 ne se met pas en température ou cela prend un temps très long jusqu’à ce que l’appareil soit opérationnel.

Cause: pour assurer une longue durée de vie des tubes, le TEP

3800 est équipé d’une fonction Soft-Start. Celle-ci procède à une montée lente du chauffage et de la tension des tubes et exécute pendant ce temps plusieurs tests de paramètres, c’est seulement après que les tests indiquent un résultat positif, que les sorties sont libérées. Ce processus peut durer au total deux à trois minutes.

Si l’appareil ne s’est pas mis en température longtemps après que ce

temps soit écoulé, vériez si le circuit de protection n’est pas activé 

(voir ci-dessus). Dans la négative, veuillez prendre contact avec votre revendeur.

Problème : une source de signal est raccordée à l’entrée CD ou à l’entrée AUX1, cependant le TEP 3800 n’émet aucun signal, malgré la sélection du canal correspondant et le volume réglé à un certain niveau.

Problèmes et solutions

Cause : les entrées CD et Aux1 sont indifféremment adaptées au

raccordement d’appareils via XLR ou Cinch. Le mode de raccordement approprié peut être réglé à l’aide de l’inverseur Cinch/XLR situé à l’arrière de l’appareil. Si le mode de raccordement est erroné, l’appareil n’émet aucun signal.

Problème : un objet ou un liquide ont pénétré dans le châssis du TEP 3800.

Procédez comme suit : mettez immédiatement l’appareil hors ten-

sion et retirez la che secteur. Prenez contact avec votre revendeur.

En cas de défaut ou de dysfonctionnement du préamplicateur veuillez vous adresser à votre revevendeur ou distributeur. N’essayez jamais de réparer vous-même l’appareil !
