The many burn-in types of CDs on the market have one thing in common. They all start in the CD player or DAC and go directly to the line level section of your preamp. While they are very effective in burning in the line section of the preamp, cables, amps and speakers, they do nothing for the phono section. Anyone who has an analog based system has no recourse but to play hundreds of hours of records in order to realize any of the subtle inner detail and timber capabilities of their equipment.
As the literature accompanying many burn-in CDs will tell you, playing music is not the most effective means of burning in a system. It does not deliver every frequency with the same intensity or consistency, and could even result in a sonic “signature” on the capacitors in your system by playing only the same type of music. Playing music only will also do nothing to help the inevitable residual magnetism building up on the components themselves.
The PHONO BURN will effectively burn-in your complete system from your phono section through to your speakers. Realizing the FULL capabilities of your system is as easy as playing the enclosed CD through the PHONO BURN once every couple of months.
The PHONO BURN accomplishes this in three ways.
1) It takes the output of the DAC or CD player and drops the signal down 50
-70dB.
2) It does a reverse RIAA curve to the signal.
3) It’s output, when plugged into the phono inputs of your preamp selected for your type load, perfectly emulates the output of a cartridge.
Use the enclosed diagram on the back of this manual to connect the PHONO
BURN to your system. (Do not apply unnecessary force or twist the cable when connecting to the PC mounted jacks.)
If you have a Moving Coil Cartridge, use Track 1 on the CD. If you have
a Moving Magnet Cartridge, or are using the transformer settings, use Track 2.
FOLLOW THE RULES FOR ANY BURN-IN CD - Play the CD only at a
moderately low
listening level, otherwise speaker damage could occur Play it for four hours the first time you use it, (the PHONO BURN needs to be broken in also) and two hours each time after that. If you just want to burn in the phono/line section of your preamp, the amps do not have to be turned on.
This will still burn in your system all the way through and including the preamp-to-amp cables, but not the amps or speaker cables. While you can play music CDs through it, the PHONO BURN is meant for burn-in purposes only and would diminish dynamic range due to its small PC board traces and is not meant for critical listening.
Warranty: The PHONO BURN comes with a lifetime guarantee subject to normal use. Warranty is administered with exclusions concerning commercial use, abuse, modifications, shipping damage or natural disaster. Product improvements and refinements may be made without notice.
