hazards.
WARNING: Risk of shock, disconnect power before installation.
CAUTION: Product should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.
CAUTION: Wear safety glasses.
CAUTION: Wear protective gloves.
Safety tips:
• Keep the proper distance from gas lines when installing.
• Utilize all proper safety equipment.
• Torches and accessory equipment should be checked for leaks prior to use.
• When using gas torches, follow manufacturer’s safety precautions.
• Follow standard safe work practices for installations.
Installation:
1. Strip both ends of the cable insulation ½ the length of the connector, plus ¼ inch, figure 1.
2. Clean cable insulation.
3. Place the heat-shrink tubing over the clean cable. Protect heat-shrink tubing from possible damage from conductor as it is placed over the cable end, Figure 2.
4. Wire brush the conductor strands, then coat the conductor with oxide inhibitor and wire brush into the strands (aluminum only).
5. Install the connector and crimp using the recommended die marked on the connector. After installation, clean and deburr the connector if required, figure 3.
6. Center the heat-shrink tubing over the splice and hold in place. Apply the outer 3" - 4" tip of the flame to heatshrinkable material with a rapid brushing motion. Keep
flame moving to avoid scorching. Working the torch with a smooth brushing motion around the tube, begin shrinking at the center of the tube, working the flame around all sides of the tube to apply uniform heat (a). After the center portion shrinks, work the torch as before toward one end (b), then to the opposite end (c) until completely shrunk, figure 4.
7. Inspect the complete splice. The properly installed tube will be smooth and conform to connection. Adhesive will be visible at both ends. Reheat any flat spots or wrinkles. Note: Allow the installation to cool before touching, moving or placing in service.
