IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING - TO REDUCE THE
RISK OF FIRE, ELECTRIC SHOCK, OR
INJURY TO PERSONS,
OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING:
A. Installation Work and Electrical Wir-
ing Must Be Done By Qualified Person(s)
In Accordance With All Applicable
Codes & Standards, Including FireRated Construction.
B. The combustion airflow needed for
safe operation of fuel-burning equipment
may be affected by this unit’s operation. Follow the heating equipment
manufacturers guideline and safety
standards such as those published
by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and the American
Society for Heating, Refrigeration
and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE),
and the local code authorities.
C. When cutting or drilling into wall or
ceiling, do not damage electrical
wiring and other hidden utilities.
D. Ducted fans must always be vented
to the outdoors.
WARNING TO REDUCE THE
RISK OF FIRE, USE ONLY
METAL DUCT WORK.
WARNING
TO REDUCE THE RISK OF
A RANGE TOP GREASE FIRE:
a) Never leave surface units unattended
at high settings. Boilovers cause
smoking and greasy spillovers that
may ignite. Heat oils slowly on low
or medium settings.
b) Always turn hood ON when cooking
at high heat or when cooking flaming foods.
c) Clean ventilating fans frequently.
Grease should not be allowed to
accumulate on fan or filter.
d) Use proper pan size. Always use
cookware appropriate for the size
of the surface element.
READ AND SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
Use Ventilator Control Housing in any Thrustpower Hood or
Custom Hood manufactured by others. Vertical discharge
only.
NOTE: Lamp boxes with shades are shaped inside housing.
Utilizing six screws provided, attach lamp boxes to
top of housing. Secure unit into hood as shown in
illustration.
Before cutting into hood or cabinet, it is necessary to know the
correct ventilator unit to be used with the control housing. This
control housing is designed for use with any of two different
ventilators listed in the Chart.

CAUTION: Vent to outside of building.
COLD WEATHER installations should have an additional
backdraft damper installed to minimize backward cold air
flow, and a nonmetallic thermal break to minimize conduction
of outside temperatures, as part of the duct work. The damper
should be on the cold air side of the thermal break. The break
should be as close as possible to where the ducting enters the
heated portion of the house.
DUCTING FOR VM410
Cut duct opening through the cabinet shelves to required
sizes, use 3-1/4" x 10" rectangular duct, or use transition
#1255-7 and a 7" round duct. Finish with Roof Jack #1255-6
or Wall Cap #1255-1. Make sure the dampers at the hood and
roof jack are free to open. See Figure 1.
NOTE: Discharge collar is shipped with the ventilator.
DUCTING FOR VTR600
To adapt these units for installation, break out the large knock
out panels located at the top of the unit. See Figure 2.
For VTR600 — Use transition #1295-8, attach it to the top of
the VCH unit through the holes. These screws are provided.
Complete with 8" diameter duct and elbows (furnished by
others).
Cut an opening in the top of the hood matching the cutouts
made in the cabinets, shown in illustrations, figures 1 and 2.
Install hood and secure VCH unit to inside of hood with screws
provided.
Two or more units may be used for extra large hoods. Allow
29-3/4" length for each VCH unit. The VCH unit is 11-15/16"
wide at top and 9-3/8" high from top to bottom.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS VCH8 WITH VM410
A) Power supply must be rated for 120V, 60Hz, 15 amps
(minimum).
B) Remove junction box cover. Connect black wire #2 to
power supply black wire. Connect white wire #1 to power
supply white wire. Connect green ground wire to power
supply green wire. Use spring type wire nuts (BSH#189692)
supplied. (Lost or missing wire nuts should only be replaced
with: Spring type wire nuts, rated for a minimum of (2) #18ga
wires and maximum of (4) #14ga wires, UL & CSA rated to
600V and 302 F/150. See Wiring Diagram in literature pack.
C) Be sure that junction box cover is replaced properly.
D) For installation of VM410 power unit refer to installation
instructions that come with blower.
For remote blower application see wiring instructions in-
cluded with the VTR600.
Note: Blower switch CTR3Q must be installed to control
remote blower.

Recommended Installation Height — Countertop to top of
each VCH unit: Bottom of cabinet — Over normal countertop
cooktop or range, Thermador’s Griddle’n Grill, etc., 30" to 40",
over indoor barbecue — 40" to 48". Recommended for use
only over conventional domestic gas or electric appliances. Not
recommended for use over solid fuel fired barbecues.
CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
For maximum efficiency, clean filter and hood frequently. Do
not allow grease to accumulate on hood or ventilator surface.
CAUTION:
Do not use scouring or abrasives cleaners as
they could permanently mar the finish.
1. To Clean the Filter — Open housing and remove filter.
Filter may be washed in your dishwasher or washed in
warm soapy water, rinse, drain and dry before installing.
2. To Clean Motor and Blade Unit (VM410 only) —
Remove filter and disconnect plug. Loosen wing nut,
swing hanger rod out of the way or scroll bracket and
rotate blower until the mounting flanges come free. Wipe
entire unit clean with a damp cloth. Do not use a dripping
wet cloth as water may enter the motor and cause
damage. To prevent distortion of wheels, always handle
the blower by the handle — not by the ends.
3. To Reinstall Unit — Reverse the procedure explained
above.
4. To Clean Hood Surface — Use only mild soap or
detergent for cleaning all hood surfaces. Dry surfaces
with cloth for maximum lustre.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
This Thermador Ventilating Hood has been developed as a
combination unit to use with a cooktop or range.
The ventilator should be
cooking
the hood. That way when heat, smoke, moisture, grease and
cooking odors arise, they will be carried upward and forced
outside, thereby minimizing their drift into other rooms.
Drafts across the cooking surface from an open window,
door, etc., may cause the escape of heat, smoke, moisture,
grease and cooking odors from the hood. Such drafts should
be prevented whenever possible.
The best job of ventilation in the kitchen is done when only
air currents are those created by the ventilator itself.
in order to draw the currents of air upward through
