A. Use this unit only in the

manner intended by the manufacturer. If you have questions, contact the manufacturer.

B. Before servicing or cleaning

the unit, switch power off at service panel and lock service panel disconnecting means to prevent power from being switched on accidentally. When the service disconnecting means cannot

be locked, securely fasten a prominent warning device, such as a tag, to the service panel.

C. Installation work and

electrical wiring must be done by qualified person(s) In accordance with all applicable codes & standards, including fire-rated construction.

D. Sufficient air is needed for

proper combustion and exhausting of gases through the flue (chimney) of fuel burning

equipment to prevent backdrafting. Follow the heating equipment manufacturers guideline and safety standards such as those published by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the American Society for Heat- ing, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and the local code authorities.

E. Due to size and weight of this

unit two installers are recommended.

F. When cutting or drilling into

wall or ceiling, do not damage electrical wiring and other hidden utilities.

G. CAUTION - To reduce risk of

fire and to properly exhaust air, be sure to duct air outside. Do not vent exhaust air into spaces within walls, ceilings, attics, crawl spaces, or garages.

H. WARNING - TO REDUCE THE

RISK OF FIRE, USE ONLY METAL DUCT WORK.

I. Install this hood in accor-

dance with all requirements specified by the manufacturer of your cooktop/range.

cold air side of the thermal break. The break should be as close as possible to where the ducting enters the heated portion of the house.

4. Hood installation height above cooktop is the users preference. The closer the hood is to the cooktop the more efficient it will be in capturing of cooking odors, grease and smoke. Thermador recommends the hood be installed 30-36" above the countertop. The lower height may be inconvenient for tall people and large cooking vessels. Check your ceiling height and the hood height maximum before you select your hood.

1. For the most efficient air flow exhaust, use a straight run or as few elbows as possible.

CAUTION: Vent unit to outside of building, only.

2. Use flex ducting only to connect rigid duct directly to transitions.

3. COLD WEATHER installations should have an additional backdraft damper installed to minimize backward cold air flow and a nonmetallic thermal break to minimize conduction of outside temperatures as part of the ductwork. The damper should be on the

Preparation of mounting surface (Drywall)

1. Select a mounting height comfortable for the user and mark on wall behind cooking surface.

2. Mark centerline of cooking surface and draw vertical line from bottom of hood to the ceiling.

3. Tape template, matching center-line and hood bottom as shown in Fig. A.

4. Mark centers of the 6 fastener locations through template on wall then remove template.

5. Mark wall with horizontal line 1" above highest and 1" below lowest fastener location.

6. Find studs behind drywall by tapping wall or using a stud finder. Mark the center of the studs with a vertical line to the right and left of the marked fastener location. Note: 2 x 6's must span at least 2 studs side to side.

7. Cutout drywall along marked lines. Install 2 x 6's between studs firmly flush with stud front. Make sure all mounting screws will anchor to added lumber. Replace drywall and refinish.

8. Attach template to wall using cooking surface centerline and hood installation height as shown in Fig. A

9. Attach 2 mounting hooks with wood screws to locations marked on template. Remove template.

10. Install duct cover bracket on wall, flush to ceiling, using drywall anchors supplied. See Fig. B.

4. Secure hood with 2 screws on top and 2 screws on bottom. See Fig. D.

5. REMOTE VENTILATOR AND DUCT INSTALLATION. Refer to instructions shipped with remote ventilator model VTR1000Q or VTR1400Q for installation of remote blower and ducting. The remote ventilator inlet fits 10" round duct. Transition to 8" round prior to passing through ceiling or wall for duct cover clearance and connecting to the hood transition. Do not use ducting smaller than 8" round.

6. Connect ducting to transition using starter collar provided with hood (See Fig. C). Locate collar screws so they fit into corner of the duct cover. Secure collar to transition and duct with three sheet metal screws each. Seal with duct

tape.

7. Install wiring for remote ventilator and power supply. See electrical installation on page 7.

8. Install duct covers on top of hood as shown in Fig. B. Raise inside cover and attach to duct cover bracket using two sheet metal screws provided.

Appliance Installation:

1. Install transition on top of hood if removed for shipping. Fig. C

2. Hang hood on 2 mounting hooks through the rectangular cutouts on back of hood. Fig. D

3. Level the appliance shown in Fig. D.

9. Check all light bulbs to make sure they are secure in their sockets. Turn power on in the service panel. Install filters. Check light and blower operation. Leave this manual for the home owner.

Alternate Installations

Reduced Ceiling Height Installation for HNW model:

The hood may be installed with only the lower part of the duct cover to reduce the overall height. This hood height is signified by * in Table 1.

1. For the duct cover to slide down and engage the top of the hood position the duct cover bracket 1" below the ceiling.

2. Fill in the gap between the ceiling and top of the chimney with a 1" thick piece of wood cut to the inside cross section of the chimney cover.

3. Finish the wood to match the ceiling.

4. Copy the two mounting holes on the sides of the upper

cover to the lower cover.

5. Install lower cover on hood and secure to mounting bracket with two sheet metal screws.

Rear discharge

For rear discharge a 90 degree elbow may be installed immediately above the hood. The distance from the bottom of the hood to top of the transition is

provided by dimension "T" in Table 1.

ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION

Warning: Switch power off at service panel and lock the service disconnecting means before wiring this unit.

Wiring Remote Ventilator VTR1000Q or VTR1400Q:

1. Run five wires #14 AWG

(black, white, blue, red, and green) in 1/2” conduit from the remote ventilator to the hood.

2. Install conduit connector

at the end of the conduit. Remove the knockout on top of the junction box. Attach conduit connector to the junction box.

3. Use the four wire bundle

and ground wire in the junction box for connecting to the remote ventilator wires. Connect black wire from the remote ventilator to the black wire in the junction box, red to red, blue to blue, white to white, and green to green. Do not

connect to the power supply wire bundle containing a black and white wire. See Figure E.

Wiring To Power Supply:

1. Installation requires a 15A circuit. Run three

wires: black, white, and green using #14 AWG from the service panel to the junction box.

2. Remove junction box cover

3. Remove the knockout and

install

/2” conduit

connector.

4. Connect black wire from

service panel to black in junction box, white to white, and green to green. See Figure E.

5. Close junction box cover.
