INSTALLATION
1. Remove machine cover by removing the two holddown studs (see
drawing #1) and lifting the cover from the machine.
2. Replace holddown stud marked U2. (drawing Ul)
NOTE: If machine is equipped with Flanging Attachment re
move it by taking out the casting mounting cap screws.
3. Remove cap screws from the cast iron holddown brackets. Using
longer cap screws supplied, start first few threads in lower hold
down bracket holes, (drawing #2)
4. Set Slitting Attachment over forming head so that the spur gear of
the Attachment meshes with the gear of the Pittsburgh Lock Roll
#3. (drawing Ul)
5. Casting is now in position to be fastened to machine with two cap
screws supplied using the two casting mounting holes on back
plate of LOCKFORMER. (drawing U2)
6. Slide the two 5460 stand spacers between the Slitter stand and
Lockformer back plate, (drawing U2) Slotted end of the spacers
will slide down over two lower holddown bracket cap screws. The
two upper holddown bracket cap screws can now be put in and all
four cap screws tightened.
7. Place the two stand braces against the machine stand and tighten
the two machine screws holding them in position, (drawing U3)

guide. Fasten braces to stand with bolts and nuts supplied.
8. Set Slitter Attachment cover over machine and replace #1 hold
down stud. Adjust holddown studs and begin operation.

ADJUSTMENT
When shearing narrow strips, if the piece has a twist toward the roll
or away from it, this twist can be eliminated by adjusting the leveler
either upward or downward. A twist down toward the roll would denote
excessive leveler roll pressure.

Tighten the two wing nuts.
To operate start the machine and place the material in the slot of
the back gauge. Feed into the slitting rolls. The slitter will cut

the slitting rolls is held against the slotted gauge at all times.

NOTE: When running long sheets it is advisable that the sheet
be supported approximately the same height as the back gauge
and the slit material run on to a bench or support approximately
the height of the LOCKFORMER stand.

The machine is properly adjusted and tested before shipment. Should
the gauge accidentally become mis-aligned it can be properly and
easily adjusted by placing a 1”
in the slot of the back gauge.
Crank the back gauge to the two scribe lines on the side rails and
note whether the rule edge is parallel with both lines. Be sure rule
is held firmly
lines, loosen the set screw in chain sprocket on the back of the lead
attached to crank. Hold the sprocket to prevent the chain from
screw
turning and turn crank until the edge of the rule is parallel with the
two scribed lines. Tighten the set screw making sure lead screw has
minimum end play but still turns freely without binding. Recheck rule
with scribe lines. Run a piece of metal through the machine and note
whether it runs freely and whether the piece cut is the same width
throughout its length.
Mis-alignment can occur when:
1. The gauge is knocked out of alignment.
2. The sprocket set screws were not tightened correctly.

machine) until the desired overlap is achieved. Tighten the 5/16
socket head cap-screw keeping pressure against the top bearing roll
holder so that it holds the top roll against the bottom roll. Normal
overlap should be from 1/32” to
