CONNECTING AND USING THE STEAM IRON
Filling the Iron with Water
Ensure the iron is unplugged from the mains and set the variable steam control to the No Steam position .
Open the water tank filling inlet and fill the water tank through the filling inlet. Do NOT exceed the MAX marks on the side of the iron.
When filling, use the utensil provided with the iron. Do NOT fill directly from the tap.
If the water is very hard, it is advisable to fill the iron with distilled water or a 50:50 mix of distilled water and tap water. The harder the water, the more the iron should be cleaned (see Cleaning).
Ironing
Ensure that the mains socket is switched off at the wall.
Fill the iron with water as described.
Place the iron on the ironing rest of the ironing board, on its heel in an upright position. Connect the plug to the wall socket. Switch on the power at the wall socket.
Note: Some parts of the iron have been slightly greased and as a result might smoke slightly when the iron is switched on for the first time. This will cease after a short while.
The temperature indicator marked with a single dot will start to flash. This indicates that the power is on, and that the iron has started to heat up to the lowest temperature setting of the iron.
The iron temperature can be set by using the two buttons marked with arrows at the top of the Temperature Control Panel. For example:
To increase the temperature setting, for example from one dot to two dots, press the button.
To decrease the temperature setting, for example from two dots to one dot, press the button.
A beep will sound when the temperature setting has changed.
When the iron has heated up to the selected temperature, the light(s) on the selected temperature indicator will stop flashing, and a beep will sound.
During use, the indicator lights will start to flash again as the thermostat maintains the iron at the selected temperature setting.
Using Steam
To dry iron, set the variable steam control to the No Steam setting .
If steam ironing is required, turn the variable steam control to the correct level of steam for the fabric. The highest level of steam is indicated with the symbol.
Note: Steam ironing is only possible at the highest temperature setting, as indicated by the MAX temperature level indicator. Do NOT attempt to use steam at lower temperatures as water will leak from the soleplate.
Spraying Steam
The burst of steam facility provides additional steam for removing stubborn wrinkles. It may be used when steam ironing or dry ironing.
Press the burst of steam button to release a burst of steam. You may need to press the button several times to prime the burst system.
Wait a few seconds for the steam to penetrate the fabric before pressing the button again.
The burst of steam facility may be used when the iron is in a vertical position, to remove wrinkles from hanging garments, curtains etc.
Note: For optimum steam quality, do not apply more than three successive bursts.
Spraying Water
Press the Spray Button to spray a thin jet of water on the material being ironed. This may be used when steam ironing or dry ironing.

IRONING TEMPERATURES
Check the ironing instructions attached to the article to be ironed (they are on a label showing a symbol of an iron). Always follow these instructions. The indications on the iron’s temperature dial and the table below will help you.
If there are no ironing instructions but you know the fabric, then use the table below. The table is valid only for the actual materials and does not take into account of any finish which may have been applied to the fabric. Textiles to which a finish has been applied (glass, wrinkle relief, printed T-shirts etc.) should be ironed at somewhat lower temperatures.
If the fabric consists of mixed fibres, always select the lowest ironing temperature of the composition, e.g. a 60% polyester/40% cotton mix should be ironed at the temperature for polyester.
In all cases, any ironing instructions on the garment override the guidance given in the table.
Garments may be damaged if ironed at too high a temperature.
Sort fabrics into groups according to temperature; wool with wool, cotton with cotton, etc. Start by ironing articles requiring low temperature settings and progress to higher ones.
Note: Do not iron garments that are dirty or stained. The iron’s heat may set the stain.
Pure wool fabric (100% wool) may be pressed with the iron set to a steam position and the wool surface protected by a dry cotton cloth.
Do not iron
Synthetics, Nylon, Acrylics, Polyester, Rayon
Wool, Silk
Cotton, Linen
AFTER USING THE IRON
Cleaning
To remove starch or other deposits from the soleplate, apply a small amount of mild cleaner to a damp cloth, forming a paste on the cloth. Gently rub the soleplate, then wipe with a damp cloth.
The body of the iron may now be cleaned with a barely damp cloth and then dried thoroughly. Do not wet the iron body, cord or mains plug.
CAUTION: Never use scouring pads, abrasives or harsh cleaners on the iron body or the soleplate as this may scratch the surface.
Anti-Scale
The iron is fitted with an anti-scale cartridge which will reduce the build-up of limescale that occurs during steam ironing. This will prolong the life of the iron.
Self Cleaning
The anti-scale cartridge will not completely stop the build-up of scale. The following procedure should therefore be carried out at least once a month, or more often in hard water areas:
• Half fill the iron with cool water and place the iron on its heel in an upright position.
• Plug the iron into a mains supply and switch it on.
• Set the temperature to MAX.
• When the iron has reached the MAX temperature setting, carefully press and hold the both the up and down arrow buttons on the temperature control panel for two seconds. This will switch the iron off.
• Turn off the power at the mains supply and unplug the iron.
• Carefully, with one hand on the handle and the other hand on the variable steam control, hold the iron horizontally over a sink.
• Turn and hold the variable steam control at the (descaling) position.
• Steam and boiling water will drain from the soleplate, washing away the scale and minerals that have built up inside the iron.
• Gently shake the iron back and forth until the water tank is empty.
• When self-cleaning is complete, release the variable steam control.
• Place the steam iron back on its heel rest and allow it to fully cool down.
• Wipe the soleplate with a cold damp cloth.
Storage
Unplug the iron from the mains and allow it to fully cool before pouring away any excess water and putting it away. Store the iron on its heel, with the power cord very loosely coiled up. Do NOT tightly wrap the power cord around the iron, as it can become damaged and expose the live conductors.
PLEASE SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.
Auto Shut-off
The iron is equipped with an Auto Shut-off safety feature. While switched on, if left immobile the iron will automatically switch itself off:
If left immobile in a horizontal position, the iron will switch itself off after 16 to 39 seconds. Note that you should not rely on this feature and the iron should be stood in an upright position in between use.
If left immobile in a vertical position (i.e. on its heel), the iron will switch itself off after 5 to 10 minutes.
While the iron is in Auto Shut-off mode, the symbol on the temperature control panel will flash.
If the iron is moved, it will switch back on.
