adaptor.
The means of disconnecting this appliance from
the mains supply is the mains plug/AC adaptor.
This should be unobstructed and readily operable
at all times.

PRELIMINARIES
UNPACKING
Carefully unpack the unit. If it is damaged,
please return it to your nearest Tesco store for
replacement. Remember to take your purchase
receipt with you.
Retain the User Handbook. If you pass the unit
on to a third party make sure you pass on the
handbook.
We suggest you retain the packaging. If you
dispose of it, do so having regard to any recycling
regulations in your area.

Place the unit on dry stable surface away from
heat and damp and where it is unlikely to fall or
be knocked over.

CONNECTING POWER
Check that the mains voltage marked on the •
rating plate of the AC adaptor is the same as the
voltage in your area.
Plug the DC cable from the AC adaptor into the DC-•
In jack on the back panel.
Plug the AC adaptor into the wall socket and •
switch the mains power on.
Initialisation begins -
A welcome message is displayed.•
The radio will tune to the last station played.•
DAB/FM AERIAL
Before using your radio for DAB or FM reception,
always fully extend the aerial wire.
FITTING BATTERIES
If you want to power your radio from batteries for
portable operation, refer to the diagram on the
previous page and t 4 x AA batteries into the battery
compartment. Alkaline batteries are recommended
for best performance.
NOTE: The alarm functions will not operate when
battery powered.
BATTERY DISPOSAL
Dispose of used batteries with regard to the recycling
regulations in your area. D o NOT shor t circuit batteries or
throw them into water, the general rubbish or in a re.
Weak batteries can leak and damage the radio.
Replace them in good time!
STANDBY CONTROL
To turn the radio on:
Press the • button.
The last used station will be played.
NOTE: When switched on for the rst time the radio
will perform an initial scan for stations.
To set the radio to standby:
Press the • STANDBY/ON button.
When mains powered, the time will be displayed.
When battery powered, the radio will switch o
completely to conserve power.
FIRST TIME USE
When your radio is switched on for the rst time
it will scan all usable stations and store them
alphanumerically - 1 Radio, 2 Radio, AA Radio, AB
Radio... The initial scan will take a few minutes.
After the scan, the number of stations found will be
displayed, and the radio will play the rst station in
the sequence.
Note: If no stations are found, switch the radio o and
move it to a location with a stronger signal. When you
switch the radio back on it will automatically repeat
the scan process.
SETTING THE CLOCK
The clock on your radio is automatically set from the
time signal broadcast with DAB radio stations.
IF DAB reception is not possible in your area, the clock
must be set manually. Refer to the CLOCK section
below for manual clock setting instructions.
SELECTING A DAB STATION
After scanning, the stations are stored in an
alphanumeric station list.
To select another station
Press the • SELECT/NAV button to display the
station list.
Press the • ] or [ button to browse the station list
and nd the station you want to play.
Press the • SELECT/NAV button to select the station
displayed.
The radio will re-tune to the station displayed.
ADJUSTING THE VOLUME
To adjust the volume:
Press the • ] or [ button to increase or decrease
the volume.
The volume display will show the level set on a scale
of 0 (MUTE) to 32 (MAX).
SELECTING DAB/FM BANDS
Your radio can also receive FM band radio stations.
To change between the DAB and FM bands
Press the • MODE button.
‘DAB’ or ‘FM’ will be displayed and the station name
(DAB) or tuned frequency (FM) will be shown.
FM RECEPTION
Select the FM band.•
To scan for FM stations
Press the • SELECT/NAV button.
The frequency display will ash.•
Press and • hold the ] or [ button to scan up or
down the band to the next station.
Tuning will stop automatically when the next station
is reached.
To manually tune to FM stations
Press the • SELECT/NAV button.
Press the • ] or [ button briey to tune up or
down the band in 0.05MHz steps.
DISPLAY MODES
CHANGING THE DISPLAY MODE
Press the • INFO button to display the current
display mode
Press the • ] or [ button to step through the
menu options shown.
Press the • SELECT/NAV button to select the option
displayed.
DAB DISPLAY MODE OPTIONS:
CHFREQ: The multiplex frequency and channel are
displayed.
BIT RATE: The bit rate is a measure of audio quality.
The audio quality improves with a higher bit rate.
SIG QUAL: The signal quality is displayed as error rate
where 0 errors is the best signal quality. To improve
reception quality you can adjust the aerial position to
minimise this reading.
STATION: Switches to the default station display.
TIME: Switches to display the time.
FIRMWARE VERSION: The rmware version of your
radio is displayed.
FM DISPLAY MODE OPTIONS:
SEEK LEVEL: Seek level is a numeric display of signal
strength. The seek level display is useful when
adjusting the aerial for maximum FM signal strength.
TIME: Switches to display the time.
FIRMWARE VERSION: The rmware version of your
radio is displayed.
DAB & FM PRESETS
Your radio c an store up to 10 of your favourite stations
as presets on both the DAB and FM bands.
To store a preset
Tune to the station you want to store as a preset.•
Press the • PRESETS button.
Preset number 1 (P1) will be displayed with an
abbreviated DAB station name or the FM frequenc y
stored in that preset number. ‘EMPTY’ will be displayed
for DAB preset numbers that have no preset stored.
To choose a preset location to store your station, •
press the ] or [ button to change the preset
number displayed.
To store the station playing in the preset number •
displayed, press and hold the PRESETS button.
When you store a preset, the preset number and ‘ SAVED’
will be displayed to conrm the number you selected.
NOTE: You can choose a preset number that is already
in use. The new station details will over-write the
stored station.
To recall a preset
Press the • PRESETS button.
Press the • ] or [ button to browse the preset
stations you have stored.
When you nd the preset number you want, press •
the SELECT/NAV button and the radio will tune to
the selected station.
ADVANCED OPERATION
You can select advanced functions from the menu of
your radio:
Press the • MENU button.
Press the • ] or [ button to step through the
menu options shown below.
Press the • SELECT/NAV button to select the
option displayed.
FULL SCAN: When rst used, your radio scanned the
DAB band for available stations. The station services
found were then stored in your radio’s memory. You
can re-scan the band at any time if you move to
a dierent area or just to refresh the stored list of
available stations.
Select the FULL SCAN menu option to start a scan.•
The scanning display will be shown while the scan takes
place. A bargraph shows scan progress and the number
of stations found is displayed.
MANUAL: Select manual tuning to tune directly to a
multiplex frequency and display signal strength.
Select the MANUAL menu option.•
Press the • ] or [ button to browse the DAB
multiplex frequencies/channels.
Press the • SELECT/NAV button to select a
displayed channel.
A signal strength bargraph will be displayed.
CLOCK: If there is no DAB reception in your area you
can set the clock manually with this option.
Select the CLOCK menu option.•
Press the • ] or [ button to change the hour.
Press the • SELECT/NAV button.
Press the • ] or [ button to change the minutes.
Press the • SELECT/NAV button.
The time will be stored.
SET ALARM: Your radio includes two alarms (Alarm
1 and Alarm 2). You can set each alarm with dierent
wake up times.
The alarms are both set and activated through the
Advanced Operation menu.
To set the alarms:
Select the SET ALARM menu option.•
Follow the alarm setting sequence in the next
column.
Press the • ] or [ button to change a setting.
Press the • SELECT/NAV button to conrm a
setting and move to the next setting.
Choose to set Alarm 1 or Alarm 2.
Choose a wake mode from Buzzer, DAB or FM radio.
Select the Alarm ON option to set the alarm you are
setting to wake you.
When you set either of the alarms to ‘On’ the display will
show the alarm symbol(s).
The Alarm Hour and Minute settings enable you to set
the wake-up time.
The Alarm Repeat setting enables you to set the
alarms to sound every day (Daily) or just once (Once).
When you are ready to go to sleep:
Set the radio to Standby.•
The alarm will wake you at your chosen time.
When the alarm sounds:
Press the SNOOZE button to silence the alarm for a 5
minute snooze period or press the button to switch
o the alarm.
SYSTEM RESET
DAB is a terrestrial system and frequencies in dierent
areas vary. If you move the radio to another par t of the
country performing a Full Scan may not be enough to
re program the radio you may need to reset the radio.
To restore the factory settings:
Press and • hold the MENU button until the display
shows ‘RESET’.
Press the • SELECT/NAV button to conrm reset.
The Radio will now re-start and scan the DAB
broadcast stations in your area.
After reset all settings are returned to the factory
defaults and any stored presets are erased.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
AFTER USING YOUR RADIO
Set to Standby.•
Unplug it from the mains and remove the •
batteries if you are leaving it unattended for a
long period (holidays etc).
CARE AND CLEANING
All care and cleaning operations should be carried out
with the unit unplugged from the mains power.
Occasionally wipe the cabinet with a lint free duster.
Never clean the unit with liquids or solvents.
