Grass Trimmer safety warnings
1. Training
Read the instructions carefully. Be familiar with • the controls and the correct use of the Grass Trimmer.
Never allow children to use the Grass Trimmer.• Never allow people unfamiliar with these •
instructions to use the Grass Trimmer. Never operate the Grass Trimmer while people, •
especially children, or pets are nearby. The operator or user is responsible for accidents •
or hazards occurring to other people or their property.
Do not operate the product without guards or • if it is damaged.
Never use the product indoors.• Prolonged use of the product exposes the •
user to vibrations that can cause a range of conditions collectively known as hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) e.g. ngers going white; as well as specic diseases such as carpal tunnel syndrome.
To reduce this risk when using the product, • always wear protective gloves and keep your hands warm.
The symptoms of HAVS include any • combination of the following: Tingling and numbness in the ngers; Not being able to feel things properly; Loss of strength in the hands; Fingers going white (blanching) and becoming red and painful on recovery (particularly in the cold and wet, and probably only in the tips at rst). Seek medical advice immediately if such symptoms are experienced.
2. Work Area
Do not operate the Grass Trimmer in explosive • atmospheres, such as in the presence of ammable liquids, gases, or dust. Electric tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
Keep children and bystanders away while • operating the Grass Trimmer. Distractions can cause you to lose control. Do not let others in the vicinity make contact with the tool or extension cord.
Keep the work area well lit.• Keep the workplace clean and tidy, cluttered •
work areas invite accidents and injury.
Page 4

3. Electrical Safety
It is strongly recommended that mains power • be supplied to the Grass Trimmer through a residual current device (RCD) having a rated residual current rating not exceeding 30mA.
Where necessary, use a suitable waterproof • extension lead, rated for outdoor use and no longer than 25 metres.
Plugs and connectors must be protected from • getting wet.
Turn o and remove the plug from the socket • when leaving the Grass Trimmer or when attempting to clear any debris or blockage.
Should the power cord become damaged in • any way, turn o the mains power supply at the socket and immediately unplug the cord. When the cable is totally disconnected it can be removed by qualied personnel.
Do not use when it is raining or in wet • conditions. Avoid all contact with water.
Power tool plugs must match the outlet.• Never modify the plug in any way.• Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded •
surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
Never use the power cable for carrying, pulling • or unplugging the Grass Trimmer.
Keep the power cable away from heat, oil, • sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled power cables increase the risk of electric shock.
When operating the Grass Trimmer outdoors, • use an outdoor extension power cable suitable for outdoor use.
Take care to keep the mains cable away from • the cutting line. Always be aware of the position of the cable.
4. Personal Safety
Never operate the Grass Trimmer when you • are tired, ill or under the inuence of alcohol, drugs or medicine.
Use safety equipment. Always wear eye and • ear protection. Safety equipment such as a dust mask and non-skid safety shoes used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
Remove any adjusting wrench before using the • Grass Trimmer. A wrench that is left attached to a rotating part of the Grass Trimmer may result in personal injury.
While operating the Grass Trimmer always wear • substantial footwear and long trousers. Do not operate the Grass Trimmer when barefoot or wearing open sandals. Avoid wearing clothing that is loose tting or that has hanging cords or ties.
Be aware of harmful/toxic dusts arising • from grass trimming etc, (e.g. fertilizers, insecticides).
During assembly take great care when tting • the guard as this has a very sharp cutting edge on one side for cutting the nylon line.
5. Use and Care
Do not use the Grass Trimmer if the switch lever • does not turn it on and o.
Use the Grass Trimmer and accessories in • accordance with these instructions and in the manner intended, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the Grass Trimmer for operations dierent from intended could result in a hazardous situation.
