Initial Driving Directions
1. Within a few seconds of selecting a Drive To location, TeleNav GPS
Navigator calculates what it believes to be an optim al route to your destination
and tells you how to start your trip from your current lo cation.
2. Click “Edit Route” on the Going To pop-up to
refine your route. The Edit Route menu allows you
to select a new origin or destination by using any
of the methods discussed in the Get Driving
Directions section on page
17. For example, you
could select a location from your My Favorites or
Recent Places lists, you could search for a
business in the Directory, or you could e nter an
address, an intersection, or a city.
Choose from the following on the Edit Route menu:
• Origin – Choose a different Drive F rom address.
•Route Style – Choose a style preference f rom the options listed be low. The next time you ge nerate a
route, your preference will be “remembered.”
o Fastest - This default Route Style finds the fastest driving route.
o Traffic Optimize d - This Route Style finds the fastest route that minimizes current traffic delays.
o Shortest - This Route Style may or may not take more time to drive, but it sh ows you the short est
distance.
o Prefer Streets - Use streets instea d of highways if possi ble.
o Prefer Highway - Use highway s instead of st reets if po ssible.
o Pedestrian - Find walking dire ctions that may make yo ur walking ro ute easier, fo r example, by
allowing you to take advantage of going the wrong way down one way streets. As alway s, use your
common sense to determine the safety of any route.
NOTE: If you typed in an invalid address, intersection, or City, you will be taken to the Address Details page t o
confirm the address before your route can be generated.
3. If you are not moving, TeleNav GPS Navigator may not know your direction of
travel, so the first few driving directions may be incorrect si nce TeleNav GPS
Navigator may initially make an incorrect assum ption. However, on ce you
start moving, TeleNav GPS Navigator learns your dire ction of travel and
provides an updated set of driving directions.
For more information about navigation views, see page
30.
GPS Origin Refinement
If you are using GPS navigation and you are in a parking lot or similar area where your location does not exactly
map to a specific street, you may see a pop-up that shows TeleNav G PS Navigator’s best estimate of what street
you are on. This gives you the opportunity to change the starting street.
If you choose to change the starting street, a list of neighboring st reets app ears, and you can ma ke an alternat e
selection from the list. If you do nothing, the first pop-up disappe ars after a few se conds, and TeleNav GPS
Navigator uses the default street as the sta rting location.
If you are not sure which street you are on, simply start drivin g. TeleNav GPS Navigator detects your current
location and recalculates your driving directions as need ed.
TeleNav GPS Navigator delivers audible guid ance tones (beep s with a recognizable pitch) as you drive, in addition
to spoken audible directions. A preparatory audi ble tone is typical ly heard no less th an 30 second s before reaching
a turn, and an action audible tone is typically heard no less than 10 se conds before re aching a turn. The
preparatory audible tone may not be sounded if the dist ance to the ne xt turn only allows time for th e action tone.
The lead times for the audible guidance t ones are i ncreased propo rtionally to your driving sp eed. For exam ple, this
allows more time for changing lanes before a turn if you are driving at highway spe eds as oppo sed to driving more
slowly on local streets.
Whenever you miss a turn, turn the wrong way, tu rn too early or too l ate, or otherwise get off the planned ro ute to
your destination, TeleNav GPS Navigator automatically creates a ne w route to your desired de stination, and an
audible tone announces that a new set of inst ructions is avail able.
If you realize you have missed a turn or have otherwi se gotten off the route, just keeping driving. T eleNav GPS
Navigator detects your current location and recal culates a new set of driving directions to get you back on track.
It may take approximately 15 to 30 seconds for TeleNav GPS Navigator to update your route. If during this process
you make additional deviations from your current route, TeleNav GPS Navi gator may have to contact its servers f or
another new route.
Since TeleNav GPS Navigator requires access your carrier’s net work, if you are off route a nd outside of the
coverage area, you must r eturn t o your car rier’s cov erage area in order for TeleNav GPS Navigator to recalculate
your route.
Navigation Views
The default navigation view is 3D moving maps, but you may wish to use another
option when you are navigating. Pull over and stop your vehi cle in a safe place bef ore
changing navigation options. You may even wish to plan your trip before you sta rt by
looking at other navigation views.
You can access other navigation views after you start a navigation session, for
example from the Drive To menu. Press the VIEW softkey to call up the menu.
When you are viewing a Moving Map with audio featu res, tap the TALK key to repeat
an audio prompt.

of your current route and the Traffic Alerts preference is turned on. You will see the
distance along the route until the accident and h ear an audio wa rning.

created, both named John Smith.
When addresses are imported, existing contacts with the same name and number are
not affected by the upload. However, if a contact’s p hone number or name is chan ged,
a new entry will be created in addition to th e original. For example, if John Smith’s
phone number remained the same, but the name changed to Jon Smithe, then there
will be two entries: John Smith and Jon Smithe, both with the same phone number.
Refer a Friend
When you select “Refer a Friend,” an invitation to use T eleNav will be sent to the cont act or group that you select

directions, simply select the destination in your Recent Places list an d then select Drive To.
Interruption of Other Services
Whenever TeleNav GPS Navigator needs to contact its servers, it uses the carri er’s data service. When this
happens, other services such as SMS messaging and conventional cellular calls are not available. Typically, this
interruption of other services lasts no more than 20 seconds or so.
When incoming calls are blocked due to T eleNav GPS Navigat or’s use of the carrier’s d ata network, phon e calls go
to your voice mail if you have a voice mail service available.
You can also use many of TeleNav’s features on the Tel eNav website, like getting d riving directions (Rout e

cellular airtime. To order a data plan from your wirele ss carrier, plea se contact their cust omer supp ort directly.
How long after I apply for the data serv ice until I can use my TeleNav sy stem?
Generally, it takes until the following business morning before the data servi ces are fully provisi oned. If you already
have data s ervices, it shoul d be no mo re than 4 hours before an added TeleNav plan is active.
Does TeleNav GPS Navigator use up my v oice plan minutes?
TeleNav GPS Navigator uses data to provide its navigation functi ons. Using data d oes not use any of your v oice
minutes. However, calling the Voice Address Input System do es use about 75 seconds per a ddress entered. Th e
Voice Call feature internal to the TeleNav GPS Navigator application also u ses voice minutes.
How accurate is the GPS?
GPS accuracy can range from 20m (approx. 65 ft) to 100m (approx. 328 ft). Most of t he time, the GPS is accurate
to less than 50 meters (approx. 164 ft).
What is ideal GPS environment?
The GPS requires an open, clear view of the sky. B uildings, cov ered parking area s, tunnels, and den se foliage can
cause the GPS receiver in your phone to be unable to locate a GPS satellite or may cause extended initi alization
time (time to first GPS fix).
If you are parked in a covered parking lot or near a tall building, it is recommended th at you move into an open area
and then begin to use the TeleNav GPS Navigat or service.
Why does the GPS not work near buildings an d other tall objects?
The GPS uses signals from satellites, so it needs a clear view of the sky. Tall buildings and other objects that block
the GPS receiver’s view to the sky may make it impossible to determine your lo cation. Sometimes the satellites are
not overhead but near the horizon; in these cases, the GPS receiver in your phone m ust have a clear vie w of the
horizon.
How do I know that the GPS has a signal?
The TeleNav GPS Navigator application on your phone ale rts you if you do not have a valid GPS signal. If this
happens, move to an area where there is a clear view of the sky so the GPS satellite signal has access to the GP S
receiver in your phone.
What happens if I’m using TeleNav GPS Navigator for driv ing directions and I l ose the GPS signal while
driving across a bridge or through a tunnel or lo se the GPS signal for some other re ason?
TeleNav GPS Navigator remembers the speed at which you we re driving bef ore losing the GPS si gnal. TeleNav
GPS Navigator continues to give you driving directions based o n an estimate of the p rojected distan ce that you
may have traveled at your last recorded rate of speed. TeleNav GPS Navigat or recalculates you r current position
when you regain a GPS signal and adjusts your driving directions accordingly.
How do I adjust volume during navigation?
Use the volume controls native to your device to adjust vo lume during navigati on.
I noticed there are stars next to some re staurants I hav e viewed or saved. Ho w is popularity rated?
Popularity is calculated by the user-generated ratings, av eraged by conside ring the scores of the rati ngs and the
number of users that have rated the location. A lo cation accrues points based on how many stars it is given by
TeleNav GPS Navigator users. When a location consistently achieves abov e-average rating s, its popula rity count
increases. Negative ratings lower the popu larity count of the locatio n.
How long are ratings kept?
Ratings and reviews expire after two years.
