Telenav GPS Navigator™ utilizes the integration of GPS position determination technology, the Qualcomm® Brew
MP™ programming environment, and access to your wireless carrier’s data network. The Telenav GPS Navigator
application provides:
•GPS navigation that punctually guides you turn-by-turn to any destination address in the Continental U.S
and Canada. If you miss a turn or get off-track, Telenav GPS Navigator will calculate a new route for you.
You can enter one or more destination addresses by keying or speaking directly into the device, entering
them on the Telenav GPS Navigator website, or by pulling your contacts from your device’s contact list.
Optionally, you can input a remote origin and receive Driving Directions from that origin address to the
selected destination address.
•Audio and visual traffic alerts while driving or viewing maps, as well as traffic rerouting capabilities to
minimize delays on your trip.
•A Search feature that allows you to find businesses or points of interest near your current location, around a
waypoint, around an entered address, or around an airport. You can call the business first to check
availability of an item or get a reservation and then navigate to it. You can also save the address for use
later in the day.
•Maps of the area around your current location, a marked Favorite, or an address you enter manually or
have previously entered. You can pan the map (adjust left/right/up/down), and zoom in or out. You can also
mark a point under the cursor as a Favorite.
• The ability to mark the current location as a Favorite that can be labeled.
• A Weather feature to view current weather conditions, as well as a 7-day forecast, for a location that you
choose.
•Commute Alerts for frequent commutes. Specify the origin, destination, alert time, and frequency. A text
message or email will be sent to you at the alert time with any traffic information for the specified route.
•The ability to personalize the application by selecting the use of U.S. customary or metric distance units, the
language for audible guidance, the volume and backlight level, etc.
•Diagnostic Tools for self-troubleshooting.
You can also use many of Telenav GPS Navigator’s features on the Telenav GPS Navigator website, such as getting
driving directions (Route Planning) and using the Search directory to find businesses such as restaurants, hotels, and
gas stations. You can also use the Telenav GPS Navigator website to add an address to your My Favorites list and
manage your My Favorites and Recent Places lists.
Please read this section carefully before using Telenav GPS Navigator
Telenav Inc. will not accept any responsibility whatsoever for accidents resulting from failure to observe common sense
precautions. Your personal judgment, traffic regulations, and common sense must always take precedence over any
driving direction produced by Telenav GPS Navigator.
WARNING: Keep your eyes on the r oad.
It is your responsibility as the vehicle operator to keep your eyes on the road and be an alert driver at all times,
ESPECIALLY when the vehicle is moving. The vehicle operator should not be distracted by the application displays, by
audible cues, or by manually interacting with the controls. When you need to enter data on your phone using the keypad
or study the display, only do so while the vehicle is parked, not while the vehicle is in motion. Turn off your phone if your
ability to drive responsibly is decreased by using the Telenav GPS Navigator application.
WARNING: Install the equ ipment safel y.
If you are using a phone mounting kit, make sure that it does not obstruct your vision. You may wish to charge the phone
while using Telenav GPS Navigator. If so, make sure that the charging cable does not interfere with any of the vehicle’s
controls.
WARNING: Drive safely and use common sense.
The vehicle operator’s personal judgment, traffic regulations, and common sense must always take precedence over the
instructions provided by Telenav, Inc.
It is your responsibility as the vehicle operator to drive safely, observe all traffic rules, and use your own personal
judgment while driving. If you feel that a route suggested by the navigation software instructs you to perform an unsafe or
illegal maneuver, places you in an unsafe situation, or routes you into an area that you consider to be unsafe, do not
follow the navigation instructions.
3. Data Service Options
The Telenav GPS Navigator application that you install on your phone requires a means of accessing the public Internet,
which is typically provided by your carrier’s data network.
The Telenav GPS Navigator application on your phone communicates with the Telenav GPS Navigator servers to get
routing, maps, and points of interest via your carrier’s data network. You do not need to purchase additional data
services if you already have a data or email services plan for your phone. However, if you do not already have a data or
email services plan, you must order one from your carrier so you can use the Telenav GPS Navigator application.
The following keys on your phone are referenced in this manual as follows. Depending on your phone model, the key
placements may slightly vary from the graphics shown below.
Left softkeyThe key in the upper left corner of the keypad.
The left softkey performs the function directly above it on the menu bar of the screen. The left softkey
is typically used to go Back one screen, Close a screen, or Exit the application.
Right softkeyThe key in the upper right corner of the keypad. The right softkey performs the function directly above
it on the menu bar of the screen.
The right softkey is typically used as Yes or Go (usually the same as pressing the OK button),
although sometimes it opens a special menu or puts the keypad in a different mode. For example,
the right softkey switches you between alpha and numeric modes when you type information in a text
field. In the illustration above, the right softkey executes the Go command and takes you to the My
Favorites screen.
Back buttonThe Back button is normally only used to delete entries in a text field. For consistency throughout the
Telenav GPS Navigator application, consider using the left softkey instead of the Back button to go
back to the previous screen.
OK button The Menu/OK button in the center of the circular navigation key.
Navigation keys The circular navigation key that surrounds the OK button. The navigation key has four possible
choices - left, right, up, and down. These are referred to as the left navigation key, the right navigation
key, the up navigation key, and the down navigation key.
END key The END key exits the application and returns you to the Sprint Main Menu. Pressing and holding the
END key turns off the phone.
To key in addresses and business names, use the keypad on your phone. Refer to the user’s manual for your phone as
some phones may have different methods by which you choose between letters, numbers, and other characters.
To launch the Telenav GPS Navigator application on your phone, do the following steps:
1. Choose Menu and then Maps.
2. Choose “Telenav GPS Navigator” on the Maps screen to launch the application.

2. Use the menu to choose a new starting point.
Edit Destination
Using this option, you change your destination to a different street address.
1. Choose the To: field on the Route screen.
2. Use the menu to select a new ending point for the trip.
Edit Route Settings
Choose Route Style on the Route screen and then choose one of the following to edit your route style:
• Fastest - This default Route Style finds the fastest driving route.
• Shortest - This Route Style may or may not take more time to drive but it shows you the shortest distance.
• Prefer Streets - Use streets instead of highways if possible.
• Prefer Highway - Use highways instead of streets if possible.
• Pedestrian - Find walking directions.
NOTE: The “Pedestrian” route style may make your walking route easier, for example by allowing you to take
advantage of going the wrong way down one-way streets. As always, use your common sense to determine the
safety of any route.
NOTE: This screen does not appear if you selected “Pedestrian” as your Route Style.
Driving to Your Destination
After you select a Drive To location, Telenav GPS Navigator calculates the most optimal route to your destination based
on your choices and traffic conditions.
The navigation screen will appear and you will start hearing audio prompts that coincide with the activity on the screen.
For more information about navigation options, see page 25
Moving to the Nearest Street
If you are not directly on a street, for example you are in a large parking lot or driveway, you will see a screen that shows
Telenav GPS Navigator’s best estimate of where you are with guidance on how to move to the first street.
Audible Guidance Tones
Telenav GPS Navigator delivers spoken audible directions as you drive. A preparatory audible tone is typically heard no
less than 30 seconds before reaching a turn, and an action audible tone is typically heard no less than 10 seconds
before reaching a turn. The preparatory audible tone may not be sounded if the distance to the next turn only allows time
for the action tone.
.
The lead times for the audible guidance tones are increased proportionally to your driving speed. This allows more time
for changing lanes before a turn if you are driving at highway speeds as opposed to driving more slowly on local streets.
A Preference setting determines whether street names are included in the messages or not. Enabling street names
increases packet data usage.
To repeat an audio prompt during navigation, press the * key on your keypad.
Miss a Turn?
Whenever you miss a turn, turn the wrong way, turn too early or too late, or otherwise get off the planned route to your
destination, the Telenav GPS Navigator automatically creates a new route to your desired destination, audibly
announce, “Rerouting,” and give you a new set of instructions.
If you realize you have missed a turn or have otherwise gotten off the route, just keeping driving. Telenav GPS Navigator
detects your current location and recalculates a new set of driving directions to get you back on track.
It may take approximately 15 to 30 seconds for Telenav GPS Navigator to update your route. If during this process you
make additional deviations from your current route, Telenav GPS Navigator may have to contact its servers for another
new route.
Since Telenav GPS Navigator requires access your carrier’s network, if you are off route and outside of the carrier’s
coverage area, you must return to your carrier’s coverage area in order for Telenav GPS Navigator to recalculate your
route.
Navigation Options
The default navigation view is 3D moving maps, but you may wish to use the 2D Map instead.
The Options menu has the following options:
Search Along
Use the Search menu to find the desired locations along your navigation route. For example, find every Mexican
restaurant on your route between San Francisco and Sacramento. This also displays how many miles off your route
each restaurant is. Select a restaurant from the Search Along list to get driving directions from your current location to
the restaurant.
Recalculate Route
Use this option to refresh the calculation to your destination, for example, if you have selected the “Avoid Traffic Delays”
routing option and you want to proactively refresh your route to optimize for traffic.
You can also use “Recalculate Route” if during a navigation session you would like to edit your Route Style. Remember
to pull over safely before interacting with the device. Then choose No, Edit Style on the Recalculate pop-up to be taken
to the Select Route Style screen (see page 25
When you are viewing moving maps during navigation and have set Traffic Alerts to “On” in the Telenav GPS Navigator Menu >> Navigation Options, a Traffic Alert icon will appear at the bottom-right corner of the map if there is an accident
less than 15 miles ahead of your current route. You will see the distance along the route until the accident and hear an
audio warning.
A 3-dimensional map with turn icons (default).
This view allows you to see how the road ahead is organized, similar to the perspective of a bird flying above the route.
You can see the route to your destination as a blue overlay on one of the roads with white triangles leading you in the
correct direction. Orange arrows mark any upcoming turns.
The name of the street you are currently on is displayed at the bottom of the screen. About two minutes before the next
turn, the street name changes to the one you will turn onto.

In 3D and 2D moving maps, you can zoom in or out while navigating by using 1 and 3. You can also pan the map up,
down, left, and right by using the navigation keys. You may see a small network activity indicator comprised of two
arrows in the upper right corner of the display when you change map scale factor. If you pan out of the current route, the
map will snap back to the current route after 15 seconds with no keypad.
Route Summary
A text listing of every turn for this navigation session from your starting location to your destination along with mini turn
icons.
Choose a line on the screen to hear the audio for that segment.
Displays overall delay from traffic, a summary of incidents on the route, and the average speed for each segment where
available. You can choose any line to view more details.
If a line shows a traffic incident, you can play the audio for it by choosing the speaker icon.
You can quickly avoid very slow traffic by choosing Minimize Delays on the screen and then choosing a suggested
route.
Below is an explanation of what you will see on the Traffic Alert screen:
•Incidents (triangle icons) – Total number of remaining incidents directly along the route. The color of the
triangle indicates incident severity:
no severe incidents
•Delay – Total time delay caused by traffic conditions, or the sum of delays on each segment.
NOTE: Delay refers only to the route currently shown.
•Go – Distance until next turn.
NOTE: This is not the distance from the origin but the length of each road segment.
• Street – The street or highway name of the road segment.
• Mph/Kph – Average speed on that road segment.
NOTE: “N/A” is displayed for segments without traffic flow information (usually local streets) or segments farther than
200 miles away.
If you choose an incident line, you can view the details. Below is an explanation of what you will see on the Traffic Detail
screen:
•Delay – The additional time it will take to travel the segment as compared with the time it would take if
traveling at the posted speed.
• Travel Time – Estimated time it will take to travel the segment.
• Slowest Speed – Slowest speed observed on the segment.
• Average Speed Bar – Average speed of a segment on a scale of zero to the maximum-posted speed for
that segment.
•Incident Detail – Each incident is displayed with the following:
o Incident icon color-coded by severity
o Location
o Additional comments
NOTE: If there is no flow information for a segment, the Average Speed bar on the Details page is grayed out.
The entire route from your starting location to your destination is drawn on a map, complete with the latest traffic alerts
and traffic flow information. The route is displayed as a blue line connecting the Start and Finish flags. When available,
press “0” to read traffic details.
Highways and major roads with traffic flow information are color-coded by speed in each direction of travel:
1. Choose the traffic signal icon in the lower, right-hand corner of the map to view traffic conditions.
2. Use the 1 and 3 keys to zoom in and out of the map (you can also choose these options by calling up the
menu). Use the navigation keys to pan the map.
NOTE: To go back to Moving Map view, press the Escape key.
Re-routing Options

1. During navigation, choose Traffic Summary.
2. Choose one of the lines with slow traffic to view detailed information about the incident.
3. Choose Avoid Segment to avoid the selected segment.
4. A progress bar indicates how long until a new route is generated.
5. The Suggested Route screen shows the proposed new route, outlining the original (blue) and suggested route
(green), as well as listing the estimated time saved.
• Choose Accept New Route to accept the Suggested Route and start navigation.
• Choose Back or Use Current Route to cancel and go back to the Traffic Summary screen.
Avoid Ahead (Audio Detour)
When you hear an audio warning about a traffic incident during your navigation session, you can re-route to avoid
congestion ahead.
1. During navigation, an audio warning sounds to alert you to traffic incidents along your route. An alert icon
appears at the left of the map, showing severity and distance to the incident.
2. Press “0” on the device. The “Getting New Route” progress bar appears, and the application automatically
calculates a route to avoid all incidents within a 15-mile range. When you hear the audio prompt, “New Route,”
the new route will be shown on your navigation session. The traffic alert icon will disappear from the screen.
The Search menu provides you with a few different ways to find the addresses and
device numbers of businesses such as restaurants, hotels, and gas stations. You
can also find WiFi spots for Internet access (Telenav GPS Navigator marks which
are free) and parking lots or garages.
If the search succeeds, a list of businesses will appear. These businesses will be
near your current position or near the location you chose.
Once you find what you are looking for, you can get audible and visual driving or
walking directions, view a map of the location, or save the location to your
Favorites list. You can also place a call to make reservations.
Using Search
To use the Search feature, do the following steps:
1. From the Telenav GPS Navigator Main Menu, choose Search.
2. The Search screen will appear.
3. You can search for a business by typing in or speaking a keyword (see page for more information on how to
use on voice input). You can also search by Category.
• Choose the text input field to type in keywords.
• Choose the voice input icon to say keywords.

best match and distance.
5. Make a selection from the list.
Search by C ategory
1. Choose Category on the Search screen.
2. Choose a Category from the Category Screen. Some Categories have additional options. For example,
Food/Coffee allows you to choose different types, like Any, Most Popular, American, Bakery, and many more.
3. Choose Go to begin the search.
4. A list of nearby results will be displayed. These results will be ordered by “Relevance,” which is a combination of
best match and distance.
You can view your search results plotted on a map. From the Map Results screen, you can also choose a corresponding
number to view more details about a particular point of interest.
On the Map Results screen, choose a balloon to center on a certain location. Press the 0 key to view more results.
Points of interests are ordered based on how they were sorted on the Search Results page. If sorted by distance, the #1
point of interest is the one closest to the search location. If sorted by rating, the #1 point of interest is the one with the
highest rating.
If you are viewing the Map Results screen from the Address Details screen, the search result number for that point of
interest is highlighted by default. For example, if you are looking at the third search result and choose Map View from the
menu, the third result appears in the center of the page.
You can zoom in or out by pressing 1 to zoom in and 3 to zoom out. Use the navigation keys to pan the map. When you
zoom or pan, there may be brief activity to fetch the updated map. Zooming out may allow you to view more results on
the page.
Most Popular Category
You can search for the most popular food/coffee places.
1. In the Search screen, expand the Food/Coffee category and choose Most Popular.
2. The Most Popular search results screen displays items that are frequently given higher star ratings. By default,
results are sorted by the number of points they have received (popularity). Items with no points or negative
points are not displayed.
Popularity is calculated by the user-generated ratings, averaged by considering the scores of the ratings and the number
of users that have rated the location. A location accrues points based on how many stars it is given by Telenav GPS
Navigator users. When a location consistently achieves above-average ratings, its popularity count increases. Negative
ratings lower the popularity count of the location.
See “Ratings,” below, for more information.
Ratings
Locations with star ratings next to them indicate those for which you can view the averaged rating by other users. You
can also submit your own rating for this location, indicated by the number of stars (the range is from 1 to 5).
Submit Your Own Rating
1. In the Search Results screen, select a location.

12. Suspending T elenav GPS Navigator
Making a Call from Telenav GPS Nav igator
If a phone number is displayed for a location that you found in a Search, such as a hotel or restaurant, you can call it
from Telenav GPS Navigator by choosing Options and then Call It.
T aking an Incoming Call
When you are using Telenav GPS Navigator and your device receives an incoming call, your device rings and displays a
screen that gives you the option to Answer the call or Ignore the call.
If you ignore the call, the Telenav GPS Navigator application resumes and continues with the function that you were
using before the call came in.
If you answer the call, Telenav GPS Navigator will be operating but “suspended.” After the call, press the Escape key to
end the call. At this point, Telenav GPS Navigator should resume from its suspended state. If you are navigating and
have gotten off the route, Telenav GPS Navigator will say “Rerouting” and obtain a new route for you.
If you have not yet set your Navigation Audio preferences in the Telenav GPS Navigator Menu >> Navigation Audio
Options and are on a navigation screen when you receive a call, you will not hear any navigation prompts during the
device call, but the prompts will be resumed after you hang up. To hear navigation prompts while on a call, go to the
“Navigation Audio Options” in the Telenav GPS Navigator Menu and change the “During Device Call” preference to
“Play.”
NOTE: When Telenav GPS Navigator briefly uses the data network, incoming calls may be blocked. When you are on
an incoming call, Telenav GPS Navigator is still running and will periodically collect a GPS fix from the internal GPS
receiver. When this fix is taken, there may be a very brief loss of intelligibility on the audio from the caller.
Whenever Telenav GPS Navigator needs to contact its servers (such as when generating a route), it uses your carrier’s
data service. When Telenav GPS Navigator uses your carrier’s data service, other services such as SMS messaging
and conventional cellular calls are not available. Typically, this interruption of other services lasts no more than 20
seconds.
When incoming calls are blocked due to Telenav GPS Navigator’s use of your carrier’s data network, device calls go to
your voice mail if you have a voice mail service available.

GPS signal weak, Cannot get GPS signal, or No GPS data
Move to an area where your device has a clearer view of the sky and can still connect with your device. Please note that
some car windshields that have heat-reflective coatings may reduce the quality of the GPS signal. Your device should
announce when you have adequate GPS signal again.
Low battery
The GPS will not work if the device’s battery charge level is below about 15%. Starting with a freshly charged standard
battery, we have used Telenav GPS Navigator for around 4 hours before it became necessary to connect the charging
cable. If you get a low battery warning, connect a charging cable as soon as possible. In some cases, you may need to
wait a while for the battery to become sufficiently charged so that the GPS receiver will work.
Network signal weak
If the carrier network signal is weak, move to an area where reception is better and try the function that requires network
access again.
Telenav GPS Navigator encountered an error
Telenav GPS Navigator is having technical problems with the specific request that you made. This can be due to an
address that it cannot find, or mapping data that does not allow routing from where you are to where you want to go. In
this case, try to use a nearby address.
Telenav GPS Navigator not available
If you get an advisory message that Telenav GPS Navigator is not available, exit the Telenav GPS Navigator application
and then re-launch it. If the problem recurs, it may be due to a temporary Telenav GPS Navigator server outage.
Unable to generate a r oute
Telenav GPS Navigator could not generate a route between the two endpoints of the route. This may be a temporary
error if you have a weak GPS signal when establishing the origin, but may be due to errors in the map data in the area
around the destination.

17. FAQs
Why do I need the carrier’s data service?
The data plan allows you to access nationwide routes, maps, and Directory content from the Telenav GPS Navigator
servers using the data communication features of your device. These services are included in your plan for the Samsung
Instinct device.
Does Telenav GPS Navigator use up my voice plan minutes?
Telenav GPS Navigator uses data to provide its navigation functions. Using data does not use any of your voice
minutes. The Call feature internal to the Telenav GPS Navigator application does use your voice minutes because it
makes a regular phone call.
How accurate is the GPS?
GPS accuracy can range from 20m (approx. 65 ft.) to 100m (approx. 328 ft.). Most of the time, the GPS is accurate to
less than 50 meters (approx. 164 ft.).
Ideally, a device with a GPS receiver needs a clear view of the sky, starting from about five to ten degrees above the
horizon. Solid or massive obstructions can reduce accuracy or block GPS signals, and may cause extended initialization
time (time to first GPS fix). Common obstructions include tall buildings, covered parking lots, tunnels, trees, and terrain
features.
If you are parked in a covered parking lot or near a tall building, it is recommended that you move to an open area and
then begin to use Telenav GPS Navigator.
Why does GPS not work n ear building s and other tall objec ts?
Your device requires signals from GPS satellites in order to work, so it needs a clear view of the sky. Dense materials
(such as concrete, rock, steel, heavy wood), tall buildings, terrain features (like mountains, ridges, and cliffs), and large
trees can block or degrade GPS signals and may make it impossible to determine your location.
GPS satellites are not always immediately overhead and could be anywhere in the sky at any time, even low on the
horizon; however, there are enough satellites in orbit so that four or more will be view of your device if not blocked by
large objects, terrain, or dense materials.
How do I know that my device is receiving GPS signals?
Telenav GPS Navigator alerts you if your device is not receiving GPS signals. If this happens, move to an area where
there is a clear view of the sky so your device can receive GPS signals from space.
What happens if I’m using Telenav GPS Navigator for driving dir ections and I los e the GPS signa l while driving
across a bridge or thr ough a tunnel o r lose the GPS signal fo r some oth er re ason?
Telenav GPS Navigator remembers the speed at which you were driving before losing the GPS signal. Telenav GPS
Navigator continues to give you driving directions based on an estimate of the projected distance that you may have
traveled at your last recorded rate of speed. Telenav GPS Navigator recalculates your current position when you regain
a GPS signal and adjusts your driving directions accordingly.
I noticed there are stars in the Detail screen of some restaurants I have viewed or saved. How is popularity
rated?
Popularity is calculated by the user-generated ratings, averaged by considering the scores of the ratings and the number
of users that have rated the location. A location accrues points based on how many stars it is given by Telenav GPS
Navigator users. When a location consistently achieves above-average ratings, its popularity count increases. Negative
ratings lower the popularity count of the location.
How long are ratings ke pt?
Ratings and reviews expire after two years.
