GPS Origin Refinement
If you are using GPS nav igation and you are in a parking lot or similar area where your location d oes not ex actly map to a spec ific street , you may see a page that shows the TeleNav G PS Navi gator’s be st estimate of which street you are on. This gives you the opportunity to change the starting street.
If you elect to change the star ting str eet, a l ist of neig hborin g streets appears, and you can make a n alternat e select ion from t he list . If you do nothing, the page disappears after a few seconds and the TeleNav GPS Navigator uses the default s treet as the starti ng locati on.
If you are not sure which s treet y ou are on , simply start driving. Th e TeleNav GPS Navigator det ects y our cur rent location and rec alculates your driving directions as needed.
Audible Guidance Tones
The TeleNav GPS Navigat or applic atio n deliver s spoken audib le direc tions. A pr epar atory audible t one is ty pical ly heard no less than 30 seconds before reac hing a turn, and an action audible tone is typically heard no less than 10 seconds before reaching a turn. The preparatory audible tone may not be sounded if the distance to the next turn only allows time for the action tone.
The lead times for the audible guidance tones are increased proportionally to your driving speed. For example, this allows more time for changi ng lanes before a turn if y ou are drivin g at hig hway spe eds as op posed to drivin g more slowly on local streets.
Miss a Turn?
Whenever you miss a turn, t urn the wr ong way , turn too early or too lat e, or oth erwise get off the pl anned rou te to your destination, the TeleNa v G PS Navigator automatica lly creates a ne w route to y our desir ed des tination and an audible tone announces that a new se t of instr uctions is availabl e.
If you realize you have mis sed a tur n or hav e other wise gotte n off the r oute, ju st keeping driving . The TeleNav G PS Navigator detects your cur rent loc ation and r ecalculat es a new set of dri ving dire ctions to get you b ack on track .
It may take approximately 15 to 30 seconds for the TeleNav GPS Navigator to update your route. If d uring this process you make additional d eviatio ns from y our cur rent route, the TeleNa v GPS Navi gator may have to contact its servers for another new route.
Since the TeleNav GPS Navigator requires access your carrier’s network, if you are off route and outside of the carrier’s coverage area, y ou must re turn to y our carr ier’s covera ge area in order f or TeleNav GPS Navi gator to recalculate your route.

19. F AQs
Why do I need the carrier’s data service?
The data plan allows you to access nationwide routes, maps, and Directory content fr om the Tele Nav GPS Navigator servers using the data com munication fe atures of your phone. These serv ices are differe nt from your cellular airtime. To order a data plan fro m your carr ier, please co ntact S print direc tly:
1-800-777-4681 (1-800-SPRINT 1)
Does TeleNav GPS Navigator use up my voice plan minutes?
TeleNav GPS Navigator use s data to provid e its navi gation f unctions. Using d ata does not use an y of y our voice minutes. However, calling t he Voic e Addres s Input Sy st em does use about 75 se conds per addr ess ente red. The Voice Call feature inter nal to the Tele Nav GP S Naviga tor app licati on also us es voic e minut es.
How accurate is the GPS?
GPS accuracy can range from 20m ( appro x. 65 f t) to 100m (appr ox. 32 8 ft). Most of the time, the GP S is accurate to less than 50 meters (approx. 164 ft).
What is ideal GPS environm ent?
© TELENAV, INC. 2003-2007 PAGE 40 OF 42
Page 41
The GPS requires an open, cl ear view of the sky . Buildi ngs, cov ered par king ar eas, tunn els, and d ense foli age c an cause the GPS receiver to be unable to l ocate a GP S satellit e or may cause ex tended in itializati on time ( time to first GPS fix).
If you are parked in a covered parking lot or near a tall building, it is recomm ended that you move int o an open area and then begin to use the Tel eNav GPS Navigat or servi ce.
Why does the GPS not work near buildings an d other tall ob jects?
The GPS uses signals from sate llites so i t needs a clear v iew of the sky. Tal l buildi ngs and ot her obj ects t hat block the GPS receiver’s view to the sky may make it impossible to determine your location. Sometimes the satellites are not overhead but near the h orizon; in thes e cases, the B luetoot h GPS r eceiver mus t have a clear vi ew of th e horizon.
How do I know that the GPS has a signa l?
The TeleNav GPS Navigat or applic ation o n your phone al erts y ou if you do not hav e a valid G PS si gnal. If t his happens, move to an area where there is a clear view of the sky so the GPS satellite signal has access to the Bluetooth GPS receiver.
What happens if I’m using TeleNav GPS Navigator for driving directions and I lose the GPS signal while driving across a bridge or through a tunnel or lose the GPS signal for some other reason?
TeleNav GPS Navigator rem embers th e speed at whic h you wer e drivin g before l osing the GPS sig nal. TeleN av GPS Navigator continues to g ive yo u driving di rectio ns bas ed on an es timate of the pr ojected di stan ce that y ou may have traveled at your la st reco rded rate o f speed.
