Subject: Do-it-yourself installation package
Service: Managed Broadband (IP DSL) for
AT&T VPN Tunneling Services (AVTS)
AT&T Network Based IP VPN Remote Access (ANIRA)
Dear Customer,
Thank you for your confidence in the AT&T Managed Broadband Service. This access technique provides you with high-speed connection to your Corporate Network and the Internet.
AT&T delivers Managed Broadband service in close cooperation with a central person / support group within your company (Customer Point of Contact or CPOC). This group would distribute the Do-It-Yourself package and is also responsible for a correct set up of your network settings. To ensure a controlled flow of information and equipment, the support group will be the interface between you as end-user and AT&T.
At this moment, we are in the progress of enabling your DSL line(s). As soon as the line is ready, we will inform the support group within your company, so you can commence with the installation of the modem and start using the service.
Now you have received the Do-It-Yourself installation package. So following the installation guidelines included in this package, you can install the xDSL modem. The modem is preconfigured; so minimal configuration is required. If you applied for AT&T assisted installation, the installation will be done for you at the agreed date.
Please note that 10 working days after we have enabled your DSL connection, we will begin to charge your company the agreed monthly DSL connectivity fee and monthly service charge. We recommend you read through the installation guideline within this period. In case the DSL installation does not function to your satisfaction, please contact your support group within the 10 working days so we are able to postpone the moment of billing.
AT&T is fully dedicated to ensure high performance of your DSL connection. In case you experience problems or you have any questions, our Support Center is fully dedicated to provide you with support. Please, address your question to the support group within your company, after which they can call our Support Center. In order to offer the best assistance, please make sure your support group has your Account and User ID nearby.
Yours sincerely,

Technicolor TG650s modem/gateway
Technicolor TG650s modem/gateway
The TG650s is an integrated multi-mode SHDSL mode/gateway, supporting:
SHDSL Annex A/B/C, supporting ATM and EFM access on 2- and 4-wire mode
Firmware 10.2 or newer
1 Gigabit Ethernet auto-sensing LAN-port.
3 Fast-Ethernet auto-sensing LAN-ports.
2 USB-ports to connect to a file-server and/or 3G USB stick, unsupported
A console port, unused
It is presented in a slim-line box with an external power converter.
The TG650s modem/gateway is a versatile device, which can be configured as a bridge or a router (or gateway). AT&T uses this device solely in bridge mode to support the VPN CPE cascaded behind it.

Package description
Package description
The following items should be present in the Do-It-Yourself (DiY) package:
1 Technicolor TG650s 2p gateway box containing:
1 TG650s 2p modem
1 PSU
1 RJ14 cable (the difference to RJ11 is that RJ14 supports 4 wires)
1 RJ45 Cat5e Ethernet straight cable
There is no localization supplied, as the TG650s is an SHDSL modem, and does not support line-sharing with Voice, hence no splitter/filter nor additional cabling is supplied.
Examples of the RJ45 and RJ14 connectors:

Physic al Installation Environmen t
Physic al Installation Environmen t
The environment in which the gateway is being installed must have normal ventilation and support the following conditions:
Temperature: 0°to 40°C (32 to 105 F)
Humidity: 20% to 80%
ATT_TG650s_Quick_Install_Guide Page 10
Illustration 3.1: RJ14 (left) and RJ-45 (right) connector. The RJ-14 has 4 wires, the RJ-45 has 8 wires.
The gateway is passively cooled, so must not be placed directly on another heat-generating device.
Power requirements:
AC voltage: 100 to 120, 220 to 240 V
Frequency: 50/60 Hz
The adapter is auto-sensing for both voltage and frequency.

Connections Overview
Connections Overview
The TG650s' gray SHDSL port is directly connected to the wall-socket using one RJ14 cable. No voice services are supported on the wire-pair. The AT&T VPN Gateway or Cisco Ethernet based router is then best connected to yellow LAN port 1, as this is the Gigabit Ethernet port.
Now in this diagram a straight RJ14 cable is suggested. An RJ14 cable supports 4 wires, 2 wire-pairs, same as the TG650s 2P does. The pin-out is as follows:
1,4 are wire-pair 2
2,3 are wire-pair 1
Usually in case a 2-pair connection is supplied, that cable can be connected directly to the wall-socket, as is shown in the diagram. It can happen that 2 ports are used to supply the 2-

Browsing to the Gateway
Browsing to the Gateway
The configuration allows the user to browse the gateway. However, after applying the AT&T bridge mode configuration there are 2 requirements:
1. the DHCP server on the device has been disabled, so the user must configure the workstation with a static IP-address in the range 192.168.1.0/24.
2. The user must have the configured username/password to be allowed access to the gateway. Without it, access is not possible.
How to use the web interface on the Gateway is described in the standard “Setup Guide” available on the CD-ROM. This can be found in the “Documentation” directory on the CD.

The following steps must be executed:
1. Make sure the gateway is powered on.
2. Use a pen or an unfolded paper-clip to push the recessed reset button on the right side of the gateway. Keep it pushed until all LEDS go out except for the power led. This will take about 7-10 seconds.
3. Release the reset button.
4. The gateway restarts in default configuration.
Resetting the system to its factory defaults also involves deleting the configuration profile settings. Therefore you need to reconfigure the system using the gateway Setup wizard or by uploading the relevant configuration file.

When the Gateway leaves the factory and after each hardware reset to manufacturer defaults, the Gateway features the following factory default settings:
LAN-side IP address: 192.168.1.254 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 User name: Administrator password: not set DHCP server: enabled on all LAN ports DNS server: enabled Master firewall: enabled Default Connection profile settings: Transparent Bridging on VPI*VCI=8*35, 0*35 and EFM untagged.
The TG650s uses generic Technicolor firmware with 4 embedded templates:
Bridge: this template will configure bridge mode configurations.
Routed IPoA: This will set up the gateway as router asking an IP-address via DHCP.
ATT_TG650s_Quick_Install_Guide Page 27
Routed PPP: This enables the gateway as router using PPPoE or PPPoA protocols
Voice router: Not supported on this model.
AT&T supports only bridge mode on the gateway model.

It can always happen, that during the configuration the wrong profile is selected for the service requested. If this happens the wrong profile is loaded on the DSL device. This can be corrected by resetting the Gateway to the factory defaults, then running the setup program supplied in the configuration software. This software can be downloaded from the AT&T ftp server at:
ftp://ftp.attglobal.net/pub/MoW_Broadband/
Alternatively the embedded templates can be used, which will result in an AT&T standard bridging configuration. The required ATM or Ethernet data should then be requested from AT&T.
