Screen Scroller Mouse
Introduction
Congratulati ons on your purchase of a Screen Scroller Mou se. The scroll feature of this ergonomically designed mouse enhances your internet browsing capabilities and enables you to quickly access program features options supported under the Windows® operating system .
NOTE: If you are running the Macintosh operating system, the Screen Scr ol le r Mouse emulates a one button mouse.
The mouse connect s dir ec tl y to your computer’s USB port. Alternatively , if you are using the Windows® operating system, you can use the supplied PS/2 adapter to connect the mouse to your compute r’s PS/2 port.
This user’s guide describ es how to connect the mo use to your computer, install the default device drivers and personalize the mouse features for the following mouse models:
• PAUM002 v2 – Targus Mini Screen Scroller Mouse
• PAUM003 v2 – Targus Optical Mini Screen Scrol ler Mouse
• NW03BM – Targus Noteworthy Desktop Optical Screen Scroller Mouse
• NW04MM – Targus Noteworthy Optical Screen Scroller Mini Mouse

System Requirements
To use the mouse, yo ur computer must meet the fol lo w in g hardware requirements and run one of the operating systems liste d b elow.

Connecting the Mouse to Your Computer
Dependi ng on t he operatin g syste m you are runni ng, you can connect the mouse to eith er your computer’s USB port or, using the supplied PS/2 adapter, you can connect the mouse to your compute r’s PS/2 port.

Connecting the Mouse to the USB Port
NOTE: If you are running the Windows NT® operating system, you must connect the mouse to your computer’s PS/2 port. See “Connecting the Mouse to the PS/2 Port.”
To co nne ct the mouse to an available U S B port: 1 Turn off your computer.
2 Plug th e standard USB end of the cabl e into an available
USB port on your c om puter.
You are now ready to i nstall the de vic e driv ers for your operating system .

Connecting the Mouse to the PS/2 Port
NOTE: If you are running the Macintosh operating system, the you must connect the mouse to your computer’s USB port. See “Conne cting the Mouse to the USB Por t.”
To co nne ct the mouse to an ava il able PS/2 port: 1 Turn off your computer.
2 Discon nect the exis ti ng m ouse, if one is atta ched. 3 Plug the standard USB end of the cable into the USB port
on the PS/ 2 adapter

4 Plug the PS/2 adapter i nto an avai la bl e PS/2 port on your
computer.
You are now ready to i nstall the device drivers for your operating system .
NOTE: Only the stand a r d scro l l i n g features are available when the mouse is connected to the PS/2 po rt.
Installing the Device Drivers
If the operating system you are running supports Plug and Play operation, it inst al ls the default devic e drivers automatic al ly. Otherwis e, use the foll o w in g pro cedures to inst all the default device drivers for your operating system.

Windows® 98/Me Operating Systems
1 Turn on your computer.
The Add New Hardware Wizard appears. If it does not, the operating system has installed the default
driver automati cally. No oth er s te p s are neces s ary.

The loca te driver screen appears.
3 Select “Search for the best driver for your device.
(Recommended),” and then click
Next.
The wizard search es for the appropriate device d river.

Next. Finish to complete the driver installation.
You are now ready to use the mo use .
Windows® 2000/XP Operating Systems
1 Turn on your computer.
The Fou nd N ew Hardware Wizard appears. If it does not, the operating system has installed the default

Using the Mouse
The follow i ng mouse features a re factory set and cannot be personalized.

Maintaining the Mouse
T o improve the performance of your mouse, keep it free of dust and dirt by following the cle aning procedures descri bed below.
Cleaning the Mouse, Scroller Wheel and Mouse Ball
1 Unplug the USB connector from the computer or, if you
are using the PS/2 ada pter, turn off the compute r.
2 Clean the outer surface of the mouse using a lint-free cloth
and mil d soap and wa ter.
3 Clean the scroller wh ee l using a lint- fre e cloth or cotton
swab and rubbing alcohol. For best results, wipe the wheel across, from side to side.
NOTE: You can use adhesi v e tape to remov e dust or lint fro m the scroller wheel.

6 Clean the mouse ball and the two black rollers inside the
mouse using a lint -free cloth or cotton swab and rubbing alcohol.

clockwi s e until it is secure .
8 Plug the USB connector back into the computer’s USB
port or, if you are using the PS/ 2 adapter, turn on the computer.
Cleaning the Optical Sensor (Mouse Models PAUM 003 v2, NW03BM and NW04MM )
1 Unplug the USB connector from the computer or, if you
are using the PS/2 ada pter, turn off the compute r.
2 Using a cotton swab and mild soap and water, gently wipe
the optica l sen s or unt il it is cl ean. Never scrat ch the surface of the sensor.
3 Plug the USB connector back into the computer’s USB
port or, if you are using the PS/ 2 adapter, turn on the computer.

If you are using an optical mou se, fo r opt im a l pe rformance :
• Never use the mouse on a glass or m irrored surface or on black ve lvet as thes e s u rfaces will cause the mou se to fail temporarily.

• Avoid using the mouse on sur fac es with repetitive patterns, such as printed magazine photographs, as this type of surface may cause th e m ouse to re spond slowly or fail tem pora rily.

Research suggest s tha t phy sic al disc om fort and injury to nerves, tendons, and muscles may be re late d to repe ti tive motion, an im properly set up work area, incorre ct body posture, and poor w ork habits.
To reduce t h e r isk of in jury, foll ow these p r ecautio ns:
• Stand, stretch, and mo ve arou nd several times every ho ur.
• Switch hands whi le perf orm i ng ta sks. Use short cu t ke ys to avoid repetit iv e or a w kward mouse moveme nt s.
• Relax your shou lders and keep your elbows at your sides. Adjust the keyboard’s position so that you don’t have to stretch to reach it.
• Adjust your position so that you don’t have to bend your wrists to type ; a voi d placing your wr ists on a sharp edge .
If you feel discomfort or numbness in your hands, wrists, arms, shoulders, nec k, or ba ck while typi ng, consult a qual ifi e d medical profession al.
