Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the National Toxicology Program. This product also contains oxidized asphalt. Occupational exposures to oxidized asphalt and its emissions during roofing have been classified by IARC as a "probable human carcinogen". Oxidized asphalt also contains Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons some of which have been classified by IARC as know or probable human carcinogens. The physical nature of this product may help limit any inhalation or dermal hazard during application and/or removal. However, physical forces such as sawing, grinding or drilling during demolition work and heating or burning may increase the inhalation or dermal exposure hazard of this product. Take precautions to prevent breathing and contact with skin.

Use of this product in "torch applied" or "hot mopped" applications may expose workers and others in the work area to oxidized asphalt and its emissions. The International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified occupational exposures to oxidized asphalt and its emissions during roofing as a "probable human carcinogen." During installation and removal of this product, including "torch applied" or "hot mopped" application, workers must take precautions to assure adequate ventilation and use effective personal protective equipment to prevent exposures to dusts, fumes, vapors and mists. It is the responsibility of the contractor and workers to protect themselves and others in the work area from exposure to oxidized asphalt and its emissions when applying this product.
Certain cold adhesive specifications require heat welding of the laps.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
STORAGE
All roong materials must be properly stored in a dry location prior to application. Store materials on platforms off the ground or roof deck and covered with opaque waterproof tarps that have been properly tied down. During cold or damp environmental conditions, place the rolls in a heated area. Wet or damp roong materials must never be used in the construction of a TAMKO roof assembly. To prevent the rolls from becoming deformed, unroll the rolls on the roof and allow the sun to relax them. Any areas where accidental damage occurs to the roll must be cut out before the material is installed. All marked factory splices must be cut out and covered with like material.
ROOF DRAINAGE
Proper and adequate drainage of roof surfaces is critical, and a minimum slope of ¼ in. per ft. is recommended. Positive drainage is required and is the responsibility of those involved in the design and construction of the roof deck and supporting structure.
COLD WEATHER APPLICATION
Roof application below 40°F can result in problems. Special measures must be taken to insure proper performance of the roong system. Store materials in a protected environment and limit the amount of time that they are exposed to cold conditions on the roof.
Since moppings of asphalt tend to chill quickly on a cold deck or insulation, components of the roong system must be installed rapidly, close to the mop, well embedded, and completely broomed. Asphalt must not be overheated to compensate for rapid cooling. AWAPLAN should not be applied with asphalt that is below 400°F at the point of application. Do not mop more than 4 ft. in front of the roll. Immediately press the roll into the hot asphalt by applying pressure to the factory core in the roll.
The AWAPLAN may need to be unrolled and allowed to relax to atten and warm up prior to application. If this is necessary, unroll the AWAPLAN and expose the back side of the sheet to the sun. The sun will warm and relax the sheet, then the AWAPLAN can be rerolled and installed. You may choose to cut the AWAPLAN into lengths of 12 to 18 ft. before you reroll them. Storage in a heated area immediately prior to application is recommended. Remember the “mop and op” method of installation is not acceptable with AWAPLAN.
LAYING THE ROOF MEMBRANE
The roof deck must be smooth, dirt free, and moisture free. All exposed (open) edges must have wood nailers. In the case of steel or masonry roof decks, wood nailers shall be provided around the perimeter of the roof and around all openings so ashings may be securely fastened. All masonry and metal surfaces that are to receive a mopping of asphalt must rst be primed with TAMKO’s Asphalt Primer. Begin all plies of roong membrane at the low points. Application will not be acceptable if at any point the ow of water is against the laps.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
BASE PLY
Install one or more base plies prior to the application of AWAPLAN. TAMKO Glass-Base®, Type 43 Organic Base Sheet, Tam-Ply IV®, and Versa-Base® are the recommended base ply materials. Alternatively, base sheets that meet the requirements of ASTM D4601, Type II; ASTM D2178, Type IV or Type VI; ASTM D2626; ASTM D6163, ASTM D6164 or ASTM D4897, Type II are acceptable. The base sheet shall have minimum side laps of 2 in. and end laps of 4 in. Not all application methods apply to all base sheets. Certain base plies are limited in the manner in which they may be applied. Consult the base ply manufacturer’s application instructions for the base ply used and the current National Roong Contractor Association (NRCA) Manual - Membrane Roof Systems for installation instructions. See the chart below for information regarding acceptable application methods of TAMKO base sheets.

HOT ASPHALT APPLICATION
Interply moppings of asphalt shall consist of approximately 23 lbs. (±15%) per 100 sq. ft. of roof area. For any surfaces including insulating materials which absorb asphalt, it may be necessary to apply the asphalt in greater quantities to assure adequate adhesion. Avoid excessive interply moppings as slippage may result. The asphalt must meet ASTM D312, Type III for slopes up to ¼ in. and Type IV for slopes up to 3 in. The asphalt must be a minimum of 400°F at the point of application. MOP NO FURTHER THAN 4 FT. IN FRONT OF THE ROLL. Immediately press the roll into the hot asphalt by applying pressure to the factory core in the roll. The AWAPLAN membrane shall have side laps of 4 in. and end laps of 6 in. The entire sheet, including the side and end laps, must be totally adhered in asphalt with no void areas. A small amount of asphalt protruding from the side and end laps is acceptable. However, care should be taken to avoid excessive amounts of asphalt at the lap. All exposed asphalt in excess of ¼ in. width should be covered with granules.
COLD ADHESIVE APPLICATION
TAM-PRO® M3 Adhesive or TAM-PRO 856 Premium SBS Adhesive may be applied using a 3/16” V notched squeegee or TAM-PRO M3 Adhesive may be applied using spray equipment designed for this purpose. The rate of application is approximately 1-1/2 gallons per square for squeegee application and 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 gallons per square for spray application. CAUTION: Using excessive amounts of cold adhesive may cause blistering or damage to the nished AWAPLAN membrane.
For TAM-PRO 856 Premium SBS Adhesive, the side and end laps must be set in adhesive or heat welded. For TAM-PRO M3 Adhesive, it is recommended that the side and end laps be heat welded.
Use same technique as outlined in HOT ASPHALT APPLICATION for side and end laps. Use adhesive only in wellventilated areas.
Alternatively, a cold process adhesive that meets the requirements of ASTM D3019, Type III may be used. Follow the manufacturer’s application requirements.

FASTENING
For inclines of ¾ in. per ft. or greater, the AWAPLAN membrane shall be applied parallel (i.e. strap) to the slope of the roof and fastened in all end laps. Fasten the membrane at intervals of 6 in. across the top of the sheet. All fastening shall be done through at metal caps or with nails with attached caps of a minimum 1 in. in diameter.
