Synology RS217 is an aordable and reliable solution for a small oce or business. Powered
by a fast, Marvell® ARMADA™ dual core processor, Synology RS217 is designed to maximize
performance, enabling higher eciency and cost eectiveness. Synology RS217 delivers an
average of over 127.51 MB/s in writing speed under RAID 1 conguration in a Windows®
environment, and over 210.87 MB/s in reading1, making it one of the best values in 2-bay
rackmount NAS devices available today.
Designed for reliability, RS217 comes with dual Gigabit LAN failover support to ensure
continual network service in case of LAN failure. The hot-swappable drive tray design allows
for easy installation and maintenance for both 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch HDDs without any
additional tools. The hard drive tray lock further secures your hard drives from unauthorized
or accidental withdrawal. To ensure scalability, RS217 provides an eSATA and two USB 3.0
ports in the back, along with one USB 2.0 port on the front for convenient access.
Compact 12-inch Depth
Synology RS217, a 1U 2-bay rackmount NAS server with a depth of only 12 inches, oers an
aordable and comprehensive solution for both industrial standard environments and smaller
server rooms with limited space. Its compact size ts perfectly into a 2-position rack and wall
mount rack without the need for an additional rail kit. It is also resilient enough to withstand
an operating temperature of up to 50°C/122°F, oering high reliability under extreme
conditions. The improved fan design keeps Synology RS217’s fan spinning at a very low speed,
ensuring peace and quiet in the work environment at just 25.8dB(a) .
Comprehensive Ofce Applications
With Synology RS217 and its rich business applications, you can boost personal productivity
and more importantly, work more eciently. SpreadSheet allows you to create, edit and
simultaneously collaborate on a spreadsheet with multiple users on any browser, and share it
with a specic group of people eortlessly. VPN Server oers an easy VPN solution, providing
a secure way of connecting to a private LAN from a remote location. RADIUS Server
strengthens network security by overseeing wireless access authentication via the RADIUS
(Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service) networking protocol. Surveillance Station
oers a centralized interface to manage IP cameras deployed in your oce or home, allowing
users traveling miles away to safeguard their personal environment by watching live views,
recording events, and taking snapshots with a computer or iOS/Android device.

integration allow RS217 to t quickly and eortlessly into any existing network environment
without the necessity to recreate user accounts. Cloud Sync keeps your Dropbox, Google™
Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, Baidu and Box storages in sync with your Synology NAS at home.
The Cloud Station Suite allows you to sync les among multiple devices — Windows PC,
Mac, Linux, iOS or Android™ tablets/phones — eortlessly keeping everything up-to-date. All
le sharing over the Internet is protected at a high security level with the HTTPS, rewall, and
IP auto-block mechanisms supported by RS217.
Easy and Smart Backup Solutions
With block-level incremental backup and cross-version deduplication, Synology Hyper
Backup provides multi-version backup with optimized storage utilization and allows multiple
backup destinations to local shared folders, external hard drives, network shared folders,
rsync servers, and public cloud services. Hyper Backup Vault provides an overview of all the
backup history and storage consumption of each backup task.

QuickConnect and EZ-Internet congure your RS217 to be accessed over the Internet with
minimal eort. Multimedia content is easily accessible via Synology’s popular mobile apps like

Energy Efcient and Easy Management Design
Synology RS217 is designed and developed with energy eciency in mind. Compared with
its other rackmount storage server counterparts, RS217 consumes only 21.25W in regular
operation. The support of Wake on LAN/WAN and scheduled power on and o can further
reduce power consumption and operation cost. HDD hibernation can be congured to take
eect automatically when the system has been inactive for a specied period of time. This not
only saves energy but also extends the lifespan of the hard disks.
