for the Sun Blade
6000 Virtualized
Multi-Fabric 10GbE NEM
Installing the SFP+ Optical Transceiver Module
This network express module (NEM) requires that at least one small form-factor pluggable (SFP+) optical
transceiver module is installed in the NEM to enable a 10 GbE connection. One or more SFP+ modules is
provided with your system.
Refer to the following illustration and procedure for instructions on installing the SFP+ module.

▼ To Install an SFP+ Optical Transceiver Module
1. Unpack the SFP+ optical transceiver module from the module packaging.
2. Pull the locking handle into the full horizontal position until you feel the handle click into position.
3. Remove the protective end cap.
4. Hold the SFP+ module by the edges, align the SFP+ module with the slot in the NEM, and slide it into the
opening.
5. Apply even pressure at both corners of the SFP+ module, and push the module until it is firmly seated in
the slot.
6. Lift the locking handle up and push it closed to lock the SFP+ module in place.
Note – If you pull the locking handle down when the optical transceiver module is installed, you must remove
the module entirely and re-install it. The handle operates an internal lock. Pulling the handle down can
disconnect the optical transceiver module, even though it might appear to be connected.
7. Choose the appropriate cable for your system configuration.
At initial release of the Sun Blade™ 6000 Virtualized Multi-Fabric 10GbE NEM, only short range (SR) type
connectors are available. There are three types of optical mode (OM) multi-mode fiber (MMF) cables that can
be used for the NEM SFP+ SR connections:
■ OM 1 MMF: 33 meters reach
■ OM 2 MMF: 50 meters reach
■ OM 3 MMF: 300 meters reach
Additional connector types will be available after the initial release of the NEM. Refer to the product web site
and documentation for details on additional connector types available.
8. Insert the optical cable into the SFP+ optical transceiver port.
