Sun HIPPI/P 1.1 Release Notes

This document includes the general issues, supported platforms, and supported software, bugs, and documentation errata for the Sun HIPPI/P 1.1 release. At the time this document was printed, no patches are needed for this release of the Sun HIPPI/P 1.1 Network Interface Card (NIC).

General Issues

This section contains the general issues for this release of the Sun HIPPI/P 1.1 NIC. You must be aware of these issues before you attempt to install and use the Sun HIPPI/P 1.1 NIC on your system.

AP and DR

The Sun HIPPI/P 1.1 release does not support Alternate Pathing (AP) and Dynamic Reconfiguration (DR); thus, you cannot have alternate paths to a Sun HIPPI/P 1.1 NIC, nor can you safely remove a board that has a Sun HIPPI/P 1.1 NIC attached to it.

Broadcasting

The Sun HIPPI/P 1.1 release does not support broadcasting. The Sun HIPPI/P 1.1 network is a connection-oriented network, not a packet-based network, such as Ethernet.

Character Device Interface

This release of the Sun HIPPI/P 1.1 software does not include the Character Device Interface packages or documentation. If you have support issues, contact your Sun representative.

Known Bugs

This section contains the known bugs that were discovered during this release.

sink(1M) and blast(1M) Can Fail Under Solaris 2.6 (4307714)

The sink(1M) and blast(1M) commands can fail when they are executed on a domain that is running the Solaris 2.6 operating environment. These commands are part of the loopback tests in the Sun HIPPI/P 1.1 Installation and User Guide; however, this behavior happens anytime sink(1M) or blast(1M) are executed in the Solaris
2.6 operating environment. Workaround: If you plan to use sink(1M) and/or blast(1M), use the following
steps.
Sun HIPPI/P 1.1 Release Notes 3
To Use sink(1M) or blast(1M) in the Solaris 2.6 Operating
Environment
1. As superuser, kill the HIPPI daemon by typing:
# hippid -k
You can now safely use the sink(1M) and/or blast(1M) commands; however, you cannot terminate a sink(1M) or blast(1M) process that is waiting to receive or send data without executing the following step.
2. If necessary, terminate the sink(1M) or blast(1M) process by typing:
# hippi off hipn # hippi on hipn
Where n equals the instance number of the HIPPI NIC interface.
3. Restart the HIPPI daemon by typing:
# hippid

Documentation Errata

This section contains errors that were found in the documentation after it was released.
The Sun HIPPI/P 1.1 Installation and User Guide contains several instances of the default MTU size. The size should be 57384.
