63,&(5Corporation, Axle & Brake Division, presents this Parts Book as an aid in the identification and procurement of replacement parts for 6x6 6SLFHU Axles. The information included covers axle housing, wheel end equipment and brake and the rear axle differential carrier assembly and shift units.

This Parts Book is divided into major sections. Please refer to the Table of Contents.

Exploded views are used to illustrate the parts and show their relationship to other parts on the carrier Each part is identified by an item number which in turn, leads to a list containing part name and part number.

Abbreviations

AR-As Required: Parts that vary in

quantity with each axle Example: shims.

NSS-Not Serviced Separately:

Items which can only be purchased in sets, kit form or service assemblies. Example: ring gearsets.

RH/LH-Right Hand/Left Hand:

Determined as viewed from behind the vehicle looking forward.

“RTV”—Gasket Compound:

Formed-in-place gasket sealer It is recommended for use on all surfaces requiring a gasket.

PDR—Planetary Double Reduction.

D.C.—Driver Controlled S.E.—Seasonal Engagement P. E .— Permanent Engagement

NOTE: For convenience, part

numbers have been included for all pieces of the carrier assembly. However, some of these parts, such as differential carrier and caps, are serviced only in kits or assemblies. Part numbers are for your reference only. These parts not serviced separately are identified with NSS.

How to use this Parts Book

1. Refer to table of contents on

opposite page for axle type, model or series, and page number.

2. Turn to the page that applies to the axle in question.

3. Locate the desired part in the exploded illustration and note Item No. This Item No. will lead you to the part name and number

4. Refer to the related Parts Listing and locate the same Item No. and the name. If more than one part number is listed, refer to the axle model listings at top of list and select the part number that applies to the axle being serviced.

Carrier Assembly Serial Numbers

Starting in May of 1987,6SLFHUbegan assigning serial numbers to carrier assemblies, instead of the date code currently used. These serial numbers will be stamped into the carrier casting.

The carrier assembly serial number will consist of ten characters; a letter followed by nine numerals. A sample carrier assembly serial number is shown below.

H871200001

Unique number Day of Year (1 -365) Year Production Plant

The letter designation indicates the producing plant; either an “H” for our Henderson, Kentucky plant, or “G” for our Glasgow, Kentucky plant. A five digit Julian date code follows, the first two digits indicating the year, and the last three indicating the day of the year. The last four digits are a number unique to each axle.

Axle models and other equipment covered in this publication are listed below.

6x6 Drive System

In 1988, 6SLFHU changed its current production model nomenclature to incorporate the design level of the basic axle used in the All Wheel Drive System. Service parts remain available for past production models where applicable, these past production models have been included in this publication or can be serviced with a current model.

The matrix below has been designed to help you locate the correct parts list for the model being serviced.

1. Locate the model series you are servicing in the left column.

2. Determine the correct gearing you are servicing (Single Reduction, Single

Reduction with CTD, Dual Range, Planetary Double Reduction) in the other column heads.

3. You will find the model used in this publication by moving from identified model being serviced in column one across to the correct gearing.
