How to start using the P800 as a modem (Windows2000, USB connection)
Setting up the P800 to be used as a modem is easy, using the Dial-Up Networking (DUN) Wizard. The wizard simplifies creating GPRS DUN connections by setting the proper values in the PC DUN entry and linking the entry to one of the GPRS configurations in your P800. For HSCSD DUN entries, it updates the modem settings such that the specified data rate and type of bearer (ISDN/Analogue) will be used when you make a DUN connection.

1. Define P800 as a modem
a) Open the control panel on the PC. ( Start -> Settings -> Control
Panel ) b) Open the “Phone and Modem options” c) Switch to the “Modems” tab. d) Check and see if the “Sony Ericsson P800 Serial Modem” is in the
installed modem list. You can skip the rest of the instructions if it
already is installed. e) Choose to add a new modem. The PC will search for connected
modems and tell you that it didn’t find any new modems. The PC
will then present you with a list of known modems. f) Choose “Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications” as manufacturer
and select “Sony Ericsson P800 Serial Modem” as the modem. Click
OK. g) Choose to install the modem on the port that you have the phone
connected to. Tip! Doubleclick on the mRouter icon to get that
information. Click Next. h) You might get an information dialog that tells you that the soft ware
is not digitally signed. Click Yes. i) You have now defined the P800 as a modem in the PC.
2. Change the phone to MODEM mode
On P800:
a) Select the Control Panel in the Applications menu when the
flip is open b) Select the Connections tab c) Select Cable in the list d) Change "Cable status" to "Modem". Also make sure that the
baud rate is set to 115200.
On PC:
a) Double-click on the mRouter icon in the system tray area. b) Uncheck the port that the phone is connected to.
Remember the number of the com -port. You will need it
later. c) Open the control panel on the PC. ( Start -> Settings ->
Control Panel ) d) Double-click on the "Phone Monitor Options". e) Change to the "COM Ports" tab. f) Select the COM port that you unchecked in step 2. g) Click on "Enable" h) Click on "OK".
3. Dial-UP networking Wizard
a) Start “Dial-up networking wizard” from the start menu. b) The wizard will now search for connected phones and it will find your P800 c) Choose to “Create a new dial -up connection” and enter a name for the connection. Choose Next d) Select GPRS if you have a GPRS SIM card. CSD otherwise. Choose Next. e) Select “Cable” in the connection type list. Choose Next f) If you selected GPRS in step d):
- Choose the first entry in the “Access point” list.
- Choose “Server assigned…”. Click Next.
- Enter username and password for the service. In some cases you leave this entry blank. Click Next.
- You have now defined the modem. Finish
g) If you selected CSD in step d):
- Select the preferred connection speed. Choose Next
- Enter phonenumber to the ISP (Internet Service Provider) or modem to connect to.
- Choose “Server assigned…”. Click Next.
- Enter username and password for the phone number entered before. Click Next.
- You have now defined the modem. Finish.
4. Make a Connection
a) Make sure that the P800 isn’t already connected to some network service.
If you have a globe icon in the bottom of the P800 screen you al ready have a connection and have to disconnect.
You can disconnect by clicking on the globe and choose disconnec t. b) Make sure that the P800 is in “Modem” mode by following the instructions in the “Change the phone to MODEM mode” section. c) On the PC: Choose Start -> Settings -> Network and Dial-up Connections. Double click on the connection you created earlier. d) Enter username and password if needed (ask your operator or Internet Service Provider if unsure). e) Click Dial to make the connection. f) When you are done using the modem you should disconnect and follow the instructions in “Change the phone to PDA mode” section.
5. Change the phone to PDA mode
On P800:
a) Select the Control Panel in the Applications menu
when the flip is open. b) Select the Connections tab c) Select Cable in the list. d) Change "Cable status" to "PC Connect".
On PC:
a) Open the control panel on the PC. ( Start -> Settings -> Control
Panel ) b) Double-click on the "Phone Monitor Options". c) Change to the "COM Ports" tab. d) Select the COM port that is marked as “enabled” in the list. e) Click on "Disable" f) Click on "OK". g) Double-click on the mRouter icon in the system tray area. h) Check the port that the phone is connected to. The USB connection
is called “Unknown”.
