WARNING

Do not install the appliance in a confined space,

Preparations

Prepare a dry battery (not supplied) or the
rechargeable battery (supplied).

Dry Battery A

Attach the supplied battery case, and then insert one
R6 (size AA) battery with correct polarity.

Note

•For maximum performance we recommend that you
use a Sony alkaline battery.

Rechargeable Battery B

Charge the rechargeable battery before using it for
the first time.

1Insert the supplied rechargeable battery NH-10WM

into the rechargeable battery compartment with
correct polarity.

2Connect the supplied AC power adaptor to the

charging stand, plug in the AC power adaptor to
the house current (mains).
If the plug does not fit your mains, attach the
supplied AC plug adaptor (“Sony world model”
only).

3Place the main unit on the charging stand.

The CHG lamp will light up.
Full charging takes about 6 hours.

Note

•Do not use the unit while charging. Remove the unit
from the charging stand when using it.
– If you operate the unit while charging, the battery

will not be charged.

– If you operate the unit while charging, it may cause

malfunction.

– Do not place the unit on the charging stand without

the rechargeable battery. Otherwise, it may cause
malfunction.

Nots on the AC power adaptor

•Use only the supplied AC power adaptor. Do not use
any other AC power adaptor.

Polarity of
the plug

•Connect the AC power adaptor to an easily accessible
AC outlet. Should you notice an abnormality in the AC
power adaptor, disconnect it from the AC outlet
immediately.

•Do not touch the AC power adaptor with wet hands.

When to replace/charge the battery C

Replace or charge the battery when “e” flashes in
the display on the remote control.

Note

•After the battery is replaced, the setting of the SOUND
and MODE buttons will be erased.

Playing a Tape

1 Insert a cassette and if the HOLD function is

on, slide the HOLD switch in the opposite
direction of the arrow to unlock the
controls.

2 Press Y(play)•x(stop) on the remote

control and adjust the volume with VOL.
(On the main unit, press Y•REPEAT.)

When adjusting the volume on the remote control

Set the VOL control on the main unit to around 6.

When adjusting the volume on the main unit

Set the VOL control on the remote control at
maximum.

* Automatic Music Sensor

Fast forward/rewind while listening to the
sound (CUE/REVIEW)

On the remote control: Press and hold FF or REW
during playback and release it at the point you want.
On the main unit: Press and hold FF/CUE•AMS or
REW/REVIEW•AMS during playback and release it
at the point you want.

Using Other Functions

Adjusting the Tape Playback Speed

You can adjust the playback speed using SPEED
CONTROL.

Turn SPEED CONTROL to:
SLOW (slow) to play back at a slower speed.
Center position to play back at normal speed.
FAST (fast) to play back at a faster speed.

Adjusting Playback Mode

You can adjust the playback direction mode (s or
d) as well as the BL SKIP mode (on or off).

•When “BL SKIP” is displayed, the tape is fast­forwarded to the next track if there is a blank space
of longer than 12 seconds. You will hear repeated
sets of three short beeps when skipping a blank.

•When “s” is displayed, both sides of the tape is
played repeatedly.

•When “d” is displayed, both sides of the tape is
played once (if you start from R (REV) side, only
REV side will be played).

Note

• You cannot adjust the playback mode during fast­forward or rewind.

Emphasizing Sound

1Press SOUND repeatedly. With each press, the

indications change as follows:

RV (Sound Revitalizer): emphasizes treble sound
MB (Mega Bass): emphasizes bass sound

(moderate effect)

GRV (Groove): emphasizes bass sound (strong

effect)

none: normal (no effect)

Notes

•If the sound is distorted with the mode “GRV”, turn
down the volume of the main unit or select other
modes.

• You cannot change the mode during fast-forward or
rewind.

Protecting Your Hearing — AVLS
(Automatic Volume Limiter System)

Hold down MODE until “AVLS” appears in the
display (about 10 seconds).

To cancel the AVLS function

Hold down MODE again until “AVLS” disappears
from the display.

Note

•You cannot turn on/off the AVLS function during
fast-forward or rewind.

Locking the Controls — HOLD
Function

Slide the HOLD switch in the direction of the arrow
to lock the controls of the Walkman (except SPEED
CONTROL) or the remote control.

Precautions

On charging

• The supplied charging stand can be used only with this unit.
No other model can be charged using this stand.

• Remove the AC power adaptor from the wall outlet as soon as
possible after the rechargeable battery has been charged.
Overcharging may damage the rechargeable battery.

•The charging stand and the rechargeable battery may become
warm during charging, but this is not a problem.

• Do not tear off the film on the rechargeable battery.

•Use only the supplied charging stand to charge the supplied
rechargeable battery.

• Be sure not to short-circuit the battery. When you carry it with
you, use the supplied carrying case. If you are not using the
case, do not carry the battery with other metallic objects such
as keys, rings in your pocket.

• If the rechargeable battery is new or has not been used for a
long time, it may not be charged completely until you use it
several times.

On batteries

•Do not charge a dry battery.

•Do not carry the dry or rechargeable batteries with coins or
other metallic objects. It can generate heat if the positive and
negative terminals of the batteries are accidentally contacted by
a metallic object.

• When you do not use the Walkman for a long time, remove the
battery to avoid any damage caused by battery leakage and
subsequent corrosion.

On handling

• Do not leave the unit in a location near heat sources, or in a
place subject to direct sunlight, excessive dust or sand,
moisture, rain, mechanical shock, or in a car with its windows
closed.

• The LCD display may become hard to see or slow down when
using the unit at high temperatures (above 40˚C/104°F) or at
low temperatures (below 0˚C/32°F). At room temperature, the
display will return to its normal operating condition.

• Do not use cassettes longer than 90 minutes except for long
continuous playback.

• If the unit has not been used for long, set it in the playback
mode to warm up for a few minutes before you start using
again.

On the remote control

Use the supplied remote control only with this unit.

On headphones/earphones

Road safety

Do not use headphones/earphones while driving, cycling, or
operating any motorized vehicle. It may create a traffic hazard
and is illegal in some areas. It can also be potentially dangerous
to play your headphones/earphones at high volume while
walking, especially at pedestrian crossings.
You should exercise extreme caution or discontinue use in
potentially hazardous situations.

Preventing hearing damage

Do not use headphones/earphones at high volume. Hearing
experts advise against continuous, loud and extended play. If
you experience a ringing in your ears, reduce volume or
discontinue use.

Caring for others

Keep the volume to a moderate level. This will allow you to hear
outside sounds and to be considerate to the people around you.

On maintenance

• Clean the tape head and tape path, using a cotton swab and
commercially available cleaning solvent after every 10 hours of
use.

•To clean the exterior, use a soft cloth slightly moistened in
water. Do not use alcohol, benzine or thinner.

• Clean the headphones/earphones and remote control plugs
periodically.

•Clean the battery case terminals (both inside and outside) and
the terminals periodically with a cotton swab or soft cloth as
illustrated.

準備工作

準備乾電池（無附帶）或充電式電池（附帶）。

乾電池A

安裝附帶的電池盒，然後對正確極性裝入一節R6

(AA)電池。

註

•為獲得最佳效果，建議您使用Sony牌鹼性電池。

充電式電池 B

充電式電池在第一次使用前，必須加以充電。

1以正確極性將附帶的充電式電池NH-10WM裝入充電式電

池室。

2將附帶的AC電源轉接器連接到充電座，將AC電源轉接

器接插到家庭用電源插座（主電源）。
如果插頭與所用主電源插座不匹配，請裝上附帶的AC
電源插頭轉接器（“Sony world model”為限）。

3把主機放在充電架上。

CHG燈將點亮。
完全充電需時大約6小時。

註

•充電中，請別使用機器，要使用機器時，須把機器從充電
座上卸下來。

– 充電中，您如果操作機器，電池便不能進行充電了。
– 充電中，您如果操作機器，便可能引起故障。
– 別把沒有安裝充電式電池的機器裝放在充電座上。否則

便可引起故障。

AC電源轉接器須知

•限使用附帶的AC電源轉接器。請別利用任何別的AC電源轉
接器。

插頭的電極

•將AC電源轉接器連接到近旁的AC插座。您如果發現AC電源
轉接器有異常現象，即請立即自AC插座拔下它。

•您的手潮濕時，切勿去碰AC電源轉接器。

何時更換電池給電池充電 C

當遙控器上顯示器中的“e”閃爍著時，即請更

換電池或給電池充電。

註

•換裝電池之後，SOUND和MODE的按鈕設定都將被擦去。

使用其他功能

調整磁帶播放速度

可用SPEED CONTROL調整播放速度。

旋轉SPEED CONTROL為：

SLOW（慢），以便用較慢速度播放。
中央位置，以便用正常速度播放。
FAST（快），以便用較快速度播放。

調節放音模式

您可以調節播放方向模式（s 或 d）以及BL

SKIP模式（開或關）。

使用前須注意

充電須知

• 附帶的充電座只能用於本裝置。別的型號是不能用此充電座充電
的。

• 充電池充滿電時，即盡速從牆上電源插座卸下充電座。因為過度
的充電可能會損壞充電式電池。

• 進行充電中，充電座和充電式電池都可能變熱。這是正常現象不
成問題。

• 別撕下充電式電池上的薄膜。

• 限利用附帶的充電座給附帶的充電式電池進行充電。

• 電池切勿使發生短路。要攜帶電池時，請用附帶的攜帶盒。如果

沒裝在盒裡，則請不要和其他金屬小件，諸如鑰匙，金屬件等混
合在一起攜帶。

• 全新的，或長期沒用的充電式電池，可能要經充電使用數次以後
才能完全充滿電。

電池須知

• 別試圖給乾電池充電。

• 請勿將乾電池與硬幣或其他金屬小件混在一起攜帶。如果電池的

正極和負極意外地接觸了金屬小件，將意外生熱。

• 長期不使用Walkman時，請取出電池以避免因電池漏液而腐蝕受
損。

本機須知

• 請勿將本機置於熱源附近，或受陽光直射、極多塵沙、潮濕、會
淋到雨、有機械衝擊的地方，或緊閉的汽車裡。

• 在高溫（40℃以上）或低溫（0℃以下）環境使用機器時，液晶顯
示器可能變得不易看清或轉變變慢。但拿到室溫處，即將恢復正
常的操作條件。

• 請不要使用90分鐘以上長度的磁帶，除非需要長時間連續放音或
錄音。

• 如果長時間未使用本機，在重新開始使用之前，請先將其置於播
放模式預熱幾分鐘。

遙控器須知

本機限使用附帶的遙控器。

頭戴耳機耳機須知

交通安全

請勿在駕車、騎車或操縱任何機動車輛時使用頭戴耳機耳機，
否則可能導致交通事故，有些地區是違法的。即使在步行時，特
別是在過馬路時，高音量地使用頭戴耳機耳機也會有潛在的危
險。
在可能有危險的情況下，必須減小音量或暫停使用。

防止損傷聽力

請勿高音量地使用頭戴耳機耳機。耳科專家告誡不要連續、高
音量和長時間使用耳機。有耳鳴經驗的人也請調低音量或不連續
使用。

為他人著想

請保持適當的音量，使您能聽到外界的聲音，而且不騷擾周圍的
人。

維修須知

• 每使用了10個小時，即請用棉棒和市售清潔液清潔一下磁頭和磁
帶通道。

• 請用軟布輕蘸濕清水擦拭機器外殼。切勿使用酒精，汽油或稀疏
劑。

• 請定期地清潔頭戴耳機耳機和遙控器的插頭。

• 如圖所示，用棉棒或軟布定期地清潔電池盒的端子（內，外面）

和機器邊的端子。

音帶將快進繞到下一曲。跳過一段空白時，您將聽到

•“d”顯示時，錄音帶雙面各播放一次（但如果是

從R(REV)（倒繞）面開始，則只播放REV（倒繞）面
而已）。

註

•快進繞或繞回中，是不能調節放音模式的。

增強聲音

1反復按SOUND，每按一下，指示燈呈如下顯示：

RV（Sound Revitalizer聲音再生器）：增強高音
MB（Mega Bass強低頻）：增強低音（中等效果）
GRV（Groove最佳狀態）︰增強低音（強烈效果）
無：普通（無效果）

註

•“GRV”模式時，如果聲音失真了，即請轉小主機音量或選

其他模式。

•快進繞或繞回時，是不能改變此模式的。

保護您的聽覺—AVLS

（自動音量限制系統）

按下MODE至顯示器中出現“AVLS”（大約10秒）。

要取消AVLS功能時

請在按下一次MODE至顯示器中的“AVLS”消失了顯

示。

註

•在快進繞或繞回中，是不能打開關掉AVLS功能的。

鎖定控制器—HOLD功能

沿箭頭所指方向滑動HOLD開關以鎖定Walkman

（SPEED CONTROL除外）或遙控器上的控制器。
