Digital Cameras and Printers Fall 2005
Digital
from the ground up.
Whether you’re taking your first steps into digital photography or you’re an experienced shooter, Sony anticipates your needs and exceeds your expectations. With Sony Cyber-shot®cameras, you’ll enjoy flawless imaging and exciting new ways to share your pictures any time, anywhere. You’ll experience intuitive handling with split-second response. And you’ll discover designs so compact and slender, you can take them wherever you go.
Sony innovation in digital cameras is no accident. It comes from a mastery of all things digital, from the sensors that capture your picture to the processor that manages it to the media that stores it to the batteries that power the entire system. And because Sony is not limited by a film camera mentality, we’re free to create digital cameras that change the way you see the world.
So if you’re researching digital cameras, we’ve put everything you need to know into a single word. Sony.
The Bigger The Imager, The Better The Image
Sony’s DSC-R1 incorporates a professional-grade APS-C class image sensor. At 21.5 x 14.4 mm it’s literally twelve times the area of a typical sensor! So you get superb sensitivity, reduced image noise and an amazing 10.3 megapixels of resolution. Other cameras with APS-C class sensors must depend on an optical viewfinder for framing. Thanks to Sony CMOS technology, the R1 is the world’s first APS-C class sensor with the immediacy and accuracy of a Live Preview of the scene. You can see Live Preview on either the LCD monitor or using the through-the-lens electronic viewfinder.
Take In The Wider View
Because the DSC-R1 needs no optical viewfinder, it also doesn’t need the bulky mirror and pentaprism such viewfinders can require. As a result, Sony is free to integrate a more compact lens that can capture a tremendous range in field of view. The Carl Zeiss
®
Vario-Sonnar®5x zoom lens extends from an ultra-wide 24 mm all the way to 120 mm (35mm equivalent). So you can get scenic and group photos beyond the reach of most APS-class camera/lens combinations.
The Legendary Lenses Of Carl Zeiss
Carl Zeiss®lenses are prized by professional photographers for their superior sharpness, crisp contrast and gorgeous color. Sony Cyber-shot
®
cameras incorporate renowned
Vario-Tessar
®
and Vario-Sonnar®lens designs that are optimized for the specific
demands of digital shooting.
Shoot At The Speed Of Life
Life moves fast. If you’re not on your toes, the most memorable moments can pass you by.That’s why every Sony camera incorporates the Real Imaging Processor
LSI. That’s how Sony cameras typically start in less than one second. And shutter lag is typically 0.009 second! (Times vary by camera.)
The APS-C class image sensor of the DSC-R1 has a whopping 12 times the area of the typical 1/2.5" sensor.
At 24 mm, the wide end of the DSC-R1 lens enables you to get dramatic scenic shots and landscapes beyond the reach of the typical 28 mm wide end of an APS-class camera/lens combination (inset frame). Focal lengths are 35mm equivalent. Sample photo for illustration purposes.
Super Zoom
Perfect for sports photography, the 12x zoom lens of the DSC-H1 has the power to bring distant subjects up close. Then you can pull back wide for impressive landscapes and group photos.
The Stability You Seek
Sony understands that 12x zoom can magnify the effect of camera shake, blurring pictures at all but the highest shutter speeds. That’s why the DSC-H1 also incorporates Sony’s powerful Super SteadyShot
®
optical image stabilization. You get clearer pictures under demanding conditions: telephoto and longerduration low-light exposures.
The Great Big Screen
A digital camera’s LCD monitor is your window on the world. Sony incorporates big
2.0", 2.5" and even 3.0" LCD screens! Bigger on-screen displays make it easier to shoot. And larger screens make it more gratifying to share your pictures with the whole gang.
Lights! Camera! MPEG Movies!
Because life doesn’t always stand still, most every Cyber-shot®camera can also shoot high-resolution movies with sound. In selected movie modes, the recording time is limited only by the capacity of the media. You can even capture about 2 GB of video in a single take!
The 12x zoom of the DSC-H1 brings you closer to the action.
The giant 3-inch LCD monitor of our DSC-N1 is the perfect way to share your pictures.
Wide 3x
7x 12x
4x
Simultaneous Movie and Still
If you can’t choose between movies and stills, shoot both at the same time! Hybrid Recording on the DSC-M1 captures five seconds of video from BEFORE you press the shutter, a still picture, plus three seconds after!
You Can’t Be Too Thin
While bulky cameras tend to stay on the shelf, Sony cameras are so small, light and thin, you’ll want to take them everywhere you go. So they’re always ready for those priceless, spur-of-the-moment shots. Our DSC-P200 is just one inch thin – and our incredible T5 and T7 are even thinner!
Hundreds Of Pictures In Your Pocket
Want to show pictures of the kids? Want to watch co-workers drool over your vacation photos? Sony’s DSC-N1 can store and share your pictures as never before. Our pocket album function holds hundreds of VGA-size images, conveniently organized by date. The slide show function lets you display your pictures with your own selection of MP3 background music and transition effects!
Keep On Clicking
Digital cameras are notorious for “eating” batteries. That’s why Sony responds with the extra longevity of NiMH and InfoLithium
®
batteries. That’s why Sony designed our Real
Imaging Processor
LSI to save power. And that’s how Sony Stamina™series cameras get hundreds more shots before you need to recharge batteries! Sony keeps you clicking long after other cameras have quit.
Easy Does It
The better you understand a camera’s controls, the better your pictures will be.When you pick up a Sony camera, the shutter button is always where your right index finger will be. Sony designed exceptionally large, clear menus for our LCD monitors. And every operating mode is easy.
As You Like It
No matter what type of photographer you are, chances are there’s a Sony Cyber-shot
®
camera that’s exactly right for you. Family types enjoy shooting and sharing with the DSC-N1. First-timers appreciate the easy operation of our S40. Style sophisticates love our sleek T7, T5 and P200. And serious shooters go for the sheer performance of our R1 and V3.
