Attention-when the product is installed in Rack:
1. Prevention against overloading of branch circuit
When this product is installed in a rack and is supplied power from an outlet on the rack, please make sure that the rack does not overload the supply circuit.
2. Providing protective earth
When this product is installed in a rack and is supplied power from an outlet on the rack, please confirm that the outlet is provided with a suitable protective earth connection.
3. Internal air ambient temperature of the rack
When this product is installed in a rack, please make sure that the internal air ambient temperature of the rack is within the specified limit of this product.
4. Prevention against achieving hazardous condition due to uneven mechanical loading
When this product is installed in a rack, please make sure that the rack does not achieve hazardous condition due to uneven mechanical loading.

PRECAUTIONS
Use the specified power cord only
Use of power cords other than the specified ones may cause fire or electric shock.
Do not damage the power cord
A damaged power cord may cause fire or electric shock. When mounting the unit in a rack, be careful not to catch the power cord in the rails.
Do not install the unit in humid or dusty locations
Dust, soot, and oil particles in the ambient atmosphere may cause fire or electric shock.
Install the dedicated circuit breaker
This unit is not equipped with a main power switch. Install the dedicated circuit breaker or power switch, and/or plug the power cord in the outlet. If an error occurs, turn off the dedicated circuit breaker or power switch, and/or unplug the power cord plug from the outlet.
Read the instructions and mount only as directed
The total weight of this unit is 29 kg. Read the instructions and cautions in the manual and mount only as directed to avoid the risk of injury. (Refer to 6. Rack Mounting.)
Mount with more than two persons
The total weight of this unit is 29 kg. Mounting the unit with less than two persons may cause injury.
Mount only with the specified rack mount rails
Rack mount rails other than those specified for this unit may not be strong enough to support the unit, risking possible collapse and injury.
Secure the unit to a rack with the screws
If the unit is not secured completely, this may cause the unit fall off, resulting in injury. Be sure to secure the unit with the screws when mounting to the rack. (Refer to “6. Rack Mounting”)
Do not block the ventilation slots
If the ventilation slots are blocked, overheating inside the unit may cause fire. Observe the following points to ensure adequate ventilation.
. Do not install in narrow or sealed locations. . Remove dust from the fan and air filter.
Install in a stable location
Installation in an unstable place may cause the unit fall, resulting in injury.
Do not stack the units
Do not stack two or more units on top of each other. Mount in a rack to avoid the risk of the unit sliding and causing injury.
Ground the unit safely
Failure to ground the unit may cause electric shock.
Handling the unit with the handgrip
Handling the unit without the handgrip may cause the unit fall off, resulting in injury.
Carry the unit with more than two persons
The total weight of this unit is 29 kg. Carrying the unit with less than two persons may cause injury.

Installation
1. Cautions before Installation
The Hard Disk Drives (HDD) are installed in this unit. The HDD is a precision part. The causes such as shock, vibration and static electricity to the unit, and the conditions of temperature and humidity may damage HDD or its data. Before installation, read fully the following cautions, and perform the installation with extra care.
Cautions about shock and vibration
When transporting and moving;
. Pack the unit using the packaging materials specified by the manufacturer. . Use a proper cart. . Put a cushion . Avoid rough routes, and manage the cart gently.
When placing on a floor or table;
. Put a cushion . Do not place the unit near vibrating equipments.

on stable and horizontal place, and put the unit on it gently.
For the unit;
. Never hit the unit by tool, and drop the tool on the unit.
Take extra care;
. Never give vibration or shock to the unit while the power is turned on, or within about 30 seconds after
turning off the power.
. Be extremely careful when removing and/or installing the HDD unit or power supply unit while the unit
is in live state.
* Cushion: Polyethylene foam (density: 38 kg/m3, surface intrinsic resistance: 10

to 1012 Z, thickness: 50 mm) or equivalent.
Cautions about rack mounting the unit
. Never give shock to all the rack mounted unit which has a HDD. . Be sure to turn off the power of the rack mounted unit which has a HDD.
Caution about static electricity
. Keep static-producing items such as plastics away from the working area.
Cautions about temperature and humidity
. Temperature and humidity of storage and operating condition must be kept within the correct specified
range.
. Never turn on the power with the cabinet is removed in consideration of the air-cooling effect.
Cautions when an error appears in a HDD
. Treat this unit conform to the above cautions, even when an error appeared. . Keep the unit in the condition in which the error appeared, and record the details of the error.

Keep the packing materials, such as carton, cushion and so on. When the unit is transported, pack the unit using the supplied materials.

1. Set the operating temperature and humidity within the following conditions.

sunlight or any other strong lights.

3. To prevent the internal temperature rise, pay attention to circulation of air in the place where this unit is installed.
The rear side of this unit should be 20 cm away from the walls for ventilation.

4-1. Information for Power Supply
A switching regulator is used for the power supply of this unit. The voltage within the range of 100 V to 240 V can be used without changing the supply voltage.

This unit is not equipped with a main power switch. When turn off the power of the unit respectively in which an error occurs, unplug the power cord plug from the outlet, or remove the power cord from the power supply unit.

4-3. Connection of Power Cord
This unit has the structure that the power supply unit cannot be installed or removed while the power cord is connected. Connect the power cord as follows:

This unit can be mounted in a 19-inch standard rack.
m . Fix the rack on the horizontal and firm floor using the
bolts.
. Mount the unit as gently as possible to avoid a shock to
the HDD during rack mounting.
. Put this unit on the cushion after the feet (Foot-holder
assemblies) are removed.

An installation manual is supplied with RMM-30 rack mount rail. However follow the instruction in this manual. Because the rack mounting procedures of this unit differ somewhat from the procedures explained in RMM-30 installation manual.
6-1. Rack Mount Procedure
1. While pressing the stopper of the rail, pull out the inner rail.
2. Attach the inner rails to the unit using the eight screws (B4x8). Tighting torque: 1.43 N.m {14 kgf.cm}

Use the specified rack mount rail. If not, it may cause injury by fall off the unit because strength of rail is not enough.

3. Loosen the screws securing the rear bracket to the outer rail, and adjust the position of the rear bracket with the rack depth.

4. Attach the front bracket to the rack using the four
screws (B4 x 12) and two plate nut supplied with this unit.
m . Attach the front bracket to the inside of the rack. . Loosen the tightened screws a half turn to adjust the
position of the brackets in fine increments.

6. Remove the four screws (B4 x 6) at the both sides of
the unit, and remove the foot-holder assemblies while lifting up the unit.

The feet can be removed from the side of the unit without turning the unit upside down.

5. Attach the rear bracket to the rack using the four
screws (B5 x 8) supplied with RMM-30.
m . Attach the rear bracket to the outside of the rack. . Loosen the tightened screws a half turn to adjust the
position of the brackets in fine increments.

7. While pressing the stoppers of the inner rails, slide the inner rails fully into the outer rails, and push the unit into the rack slowly.

Be sure to mount the unit with more than two persons.

9. After installing the unit in the rack, fix the unit to the
rack using the four screws (RK5 x 14) and four washers. Tighting torque: 1.2 N.m {12.2 kgf.cm}
8. After confirming that the unit can be moved smoothly, tighten the screws (B5 x 8) secured loosely in the step

When securing the front brackets to the rack by screws, pull out the unit about 20 cm (8 inches), and fasten the screws of the front brackets to the rack.

Secure the unit to a rack with the screws firmly. If the unit is not secured completely, this may cause the unit fall off, resulting in injury.

m . Connections with the cable are possible to a maximum of 7 units. . The maximum total length of the cables is 25 m. . Do not extend the cable more than necessary.
1. Connect the MAV-S100/S110 to the BKSI-2010 (option) which is installed in SIU-80 as initiator with the cable.
2. Connect between the MAV-S100s/S110s with the cable.
3. Terminate the unused SCSI connector with the SCSI terminator.

ID setting
Any ID number ranging from 0 to 15 can be set by the switch on the rear panel.
m . Do not select the same ID number as that of initiator. . Assign the different ID numbers to each unit which are

It is necessary to remove the front panel to connect the communication cable to the MONITOR connec­tor. As for the removal of the front panel, refer to the maintenance manual (optional) or cunsult with Sonys sales/service person.
When the commercially available RS-232C cross cable (25pin-9pin) uses;
. Set the

switch (S101-1) on the PU-99 board to ON. 25pin (male): RS232C connector (D-sub 25pin) on the rear of this unit. 9pin (female): COM1 communication port of the personal computer.

It is necessary to remove the PU-99 board from the unit to change the setting of the switch (S101-1). As for the removal of the board and switch settings, refer to the maintenance manual (optional) or consult with Sonys sales/service person.

Physical formatting procedures
n . When the multiple MAV-S100/S110s installed, connect the communication cable and perform the
following procedures for each unit.
. For the display example in using a personal computer, this manual differentiates between the characters
displayed on the screen and the characters to be entered as shown below.

1. Key in “mon” from the communication software, then starts up the monitor mode.

When the commercially available RS-232C cross cable (25pin-9pin) is used, set the switch (S101-1) on the PU-99 board to “OFF”. The RS-232C connector (D-sub 25pin) on the rear of this unit is used as ISR mode.

Cleaning
When dust is accumlated in the filter, ventilation is prevented and inside of the unit is overheated, deterioration of the unit may result. Periodic cleaning of the filter is recommended.
