A moulded plug comply ing with BS1363 is fitted to this e qui pm ent for your safety and conve nience.
Should the fuse in the plug supplied need to be replaced, a 5 AMP fuse approved by ASTA or BSI to BS

the letter L or coloured re d . Do not connect either wire to the eart h te r minal in the plug which is marked

Removing the rear cover
Hold the rear cover as illustrated below and pull the
lower part of the cover towards you first. Then,
detach the upper part of the cover from the TV.

When you connect the c ables, remove the rear cover of the TV. Be sure to at tach the rear cover
back on the TV after you f inish connecting the cable s .

Hold the rear cover as illustrated below, fitting the
four detents on the rear cover into the corresponding
holes on the TV, then push the rear cover back onto
the TV.

LCD Screen
• Although the LCD screen is made with high-precision
technology and 99.99% or more of the pixels are
effective, black dots may appear or br ight po int s of
light (red, blue, or green) may appea r cons ta ntly on
the LCD screen. This is a structural property of the
LCD panel and is not a malfunction.
• Do not expos e th e LC D scree n sur f ace to the sun.
Doing so may damage the screen surf ace.
• Do not push or scratch the front filter, or place objects
on top of this unit. The image may be uneven or the
LCD panel may be damaged.
• If this unit is used in a cold place, a smea r may o ccu r
in the picture or the picture may become dark.
This does not indicate a failure . Thes e phen o me n a
disappear as th e temperature ris e s .
• Ghosting may occur when still pictures are displayed
continuously. It may disappear after a few moments.
• The screen and cabinet get warm when this unit is in
use. This is not a malfunct ion.
Fluorescent lamp
This unit uses a special fluorescent lamp as its light
source. If the screen image becomes dark, flickers, or
does not appear, the fluorescent la mp has run down and
should be replaced. For replacement, consult qualified
service personnel.
Heat
Do not touch the surface of the unit. It rema in s h o t, ev en
after the unit has been turned off for some tim e.

If you damage the
mains lead, it may res ult

or twist the mains
lead excessively.
The core lines may
be exposed or cut,
causing a shortcircuit which may

• Be sure to grasp the plug when disconnecting the

If the mains lead is damaged, stop using it and ask
your dealer or Sony service centre to exchange it.
When not in use
For environmental
and safety reasons,
it is recommended
that the unit be
switched off when
not in use – not left
in standby mode. Disconnect it f ro m the ma ins.
Cable wiring
Take care not to catch your feet on the cables. It may
damage the unit.

Cleaning the screen surface
The screen surface is finished with a special coating to
prevent strong light refle c ti ons. Be sur e to obse r ve the
following precautions to avoid damaging the finish.
• To remove dust from the screen surface, wipe gently
with a soft cloth. If dust is persistent, wipe with a soft
cloth slightly moistened with a diluted mild detergent
solution. You can wash and repeatedly use the soft
cloth.
• Neve r use an y type of abrasive pad, alkaline/acid
cleaner, scouring powder, or strong solven t suc h as
alcohol, benzine or thinner.
Adjusting the viewing angle of th e TV
When adjusting the angle, hold the stand with your hand
so that it does not come loose or fall off.
Be careful not to catch your fingers betwee n the TV and
the stand.
Installation
Do not install optional compone nts too cl ose to the
unit. Keep optional components at least 30 cm away
from the unit. If a VCR is installed in front of the
unit or beside the unit, the pic ture may become
distorted.

Precautions
Viewing the TV comfort ably
• To view the TV comfortably, the recommended viewing position is from four to seven times the
screen’s vertical length aw a y from the TV.
• View the TV in moderate light , a s vie w in g the TV in poor light taxes your eyes. Wa tc hi ng the screen
continuously for long period s of time can also tax your eyes.
Installing the unit
Use the specified wall-mount bracket or stand.
• Do not install the unit in places subject to extreme temperature, for example in direct sunlight, or near
a radiator, or heating ve nt. If the unit is exposed to e xtreme temperat ur e, the unit may heat up and th is
may cause deformation of the casing or cause the unit to malfunction.
• To obtain a clear picture, do not expose the screen to direct illumination or direct sunlight. If possible,
use spot lighti n g directed down from th e ceiling.
• The unit is not disconnected fro m the ma in s wh en t he unit is sw it ched off. To disconnect the uni t
completely, pull the plug from the mains.
Volume adjustment
• Adjust the volume so as not to trouble your neighbours. Sound carries very easily at night time.
Therefore, closing the windo w s or using headphones is suggested.
• When using headphones, ad just the volume so as to avoid excessive level s, as hea ring damage may
result.
Handling the remote control
• Handle the remote cont rol with care. Do not drop or step on it, or spill liquid of any kind onto it.
• Do not place the remote control in a location near a heat source, or in a place subject to direct sunlight,
or in a damp room.
Handling an d cleaning the screen surface of t he unit
To avoid screen degradation, follow the advice given below. Do not push on the screen or scratch it with
hard objects, or throw any thing at it. The screen may be damaged.
• Be sure to unplug the mains lead befo re c le an ing the uni t.
• Do not touch the display pane l af te r ope rating the unit continuously for a lo ng period as the display
panel becomes hot.
• We recommend that the screen surface be touched as little as possible.
• Clean the screen with a soft cloth.
• Never use any type of abrasive pad, scouring powder, or solvent, such as alcohol or benzine. Using such
materials may result in damage to the screen surface.
Cleaning the cabinet
• Be sure to unplug the mains lead befo re cleaning the cabinet.
• Clean the cabi n et w ith a soft cloth.
• Note that material deteriora ti on or sc reen coating degradation may occur if the unit is exposed to a
volatile solvent, such as alcohol, thinner, benzine or insecticide, or if prolonged contact is maintained
with rubber or vinyl material s.
• The ventilation holes can accumulate dust over a period of time. To ensure proper ventilation, we
recommend removing the dust pe ri odically (once a month) using a vac uum cleaner.

a Switching the TV to the standby mode:
Press this button to temporarily turn off the TV
and switch it to the standby mode (the

j Selecting the VCR, TV or DVD (Media Selector):
With this remote control you can operate not only this TV but also the main functions of your VCR or
DVD.
Switch on the equipment you want to operate and press this button repeatedly to selec t VCR, TV, or
DVD. The green light just above the selected equipment lights up momentarily.
An initial setup is re quired to sy nchronise thi s remote contr ol to your VCR or DVD. This setup
depends on the manufacture r. For mo re details, refer to “Remote Control Configuration for
VCR/DVD” on page 53.

Removing the Rear Cover
When you connect the cables, remove the rear cover of the TV. Be sure to attach the rear cover back
on the TV after you finish connec ti ng the cables.

Hold the rear cover as illustrated below and pull the lower part of the cover towards you first. Then, detach
the upper part of the cover from the TV.

Hold the rear cover as illustrated below, fitting the four detents on the rear cover into the corresponding
holes on the TV , then push the re ar cover back onto the TV.

Bundling the cables
You can store the cables in the back of the TV.
1Bundle the cables and pass the cables through
the centre hole.
2Put the cable cover on the stand by fitting the
claws of the cove r with th e corresp onding holes
on the stand. Then, push the cover to secure it.
To remove the cable c over, pull the
convex part of the cover towards you.
• It may not be possible to fasten cabl es that
are too thick with the cable cover.
• If all the cables cann ot be stored inside,
leave some of them hanging down on both
sides of the TV.

Adjusting the viewing angle of the TV
You can adjust the angle to a voi d the reflection of light and ge t a be tt er view of the TV.
When adjusting the angle, hold the stand with your hand so that it does not come loose or fall off.
