Blue :Neutral
Brown :Live As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this apparatus may not correspond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows: The wire which is coloured blue must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured black. The wire which is coloured brown must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L or coloured red. Do not connect either wire to the earth terminal in the plug which is marked by the letter E or by the safety earth symbol Y or coloured green or green and yellow.
WARNING
To prevent shock hazard, do not insert the plug cut off from the mains lead into a socket outlet. This plug cannot be used and should be destroyed.

Thank you for choosing the Sony FM/AM 2 Band Radio and FM/MW/LW/SW 3 Band Radio! These units will give you many hours of reliable service and listening pleasure. Before operating the units, please read these instructions thoroughly and retain them for future reference.
These instructions cover these models: ICF-790, ICF-790L and ICF-790S Their differences are shown below.

• TONE control faciliates fine tone adjustment.
• TUNE indicator lights up while receiveing radio reception.
Chosing Power Sources
Batteries (See fig. A)
1 Open the lid of the battery case. 2 Insert the batteries with correct
polarity.
3 Close the lid.
Battery life
Using Sony batteries R6 (size AA) SUM-3: Approx. 35 hours
Replacing batteries
When the sound becomes weak or distorted, replace all the batteries with new ones.
Note
When the unit is not to be used for a long period of time, remove them to avoid damage caused by battery leakage and corrosion.
Operating the radio
1 Press the POWER switch (Ø) to turn on
the radio.
2 Select a desired band, and tune in a
station using TUNING. TUNE (tuning) indicator lights up when a station is tuned in.
3 Adjust the volume using VOL. 4 Adjust the tone to your preference
using TONE.
To obtain clear treble, turn to “HIGH”. To reinforce bass, turn to “LOW”.
• To turn off the radio, press the POWER switch (ø).
• For private listening, connect an earphone to the @ jack.
To improve Receiving condition (See fig. C) FM: Extend the telescopic antenna and adjust the length and the angle for the best reception. AM(MW)/LW: Since the reception is affected by the direction of the radio, rotate the unit horizontally for optimum reception.
SW: Extend the telescopic antenna vertically .
Precautions
• Operate the unit on the power source listed in the “Specifications”. For battery operation, use for R6 (size AA) batteries. For AC operation, check that the unit's operating voltage is identical with your local power supply and use the supplied AC power cord; do not use any other type.
• The unit is not disconnected from the AC power source(mains) as long as it is connected to the wall outlet, even if the unit itself has been turned off.
• The nameplate indicating operating voltage, etc. is located on the rear exterior.
• Do not leave the unit in a location near heat sources, or in a place subject to direct sunlight, excessive dust, or mechanical shock.
•Should any solid object or liquid fall into the unit, disconnect the AC power cord or remove the batteries, and have the unit checked by qualified personnel before operating it any further.
• In vehicles or in buildings, radio reception may be difficult or noisy. Try listening near a window.
• Since a strong magnet is used for the speaker, keep personal credit cards using magnetic coding or spring- wound watches away from the unit.
• When the casing becomes soiled, clean it with a soft cloth dampened with mild detergent solution. Never use abrasive cleansers or chemical solvents, as they may mar the casing.
