1-1.Notes on Repair Parts
1. Safety Related Components Warning
w
Components marked ! are critical to safe operation.
Therefore, specified parts should be used in the case of
replacement.
2. Standardization of Parts
Some repair parts supplied by Sony differ from those
used for the unit. These are because of parts commonality and improvement.
Parts list has the present standardized repair parts.
3. Stock of Parts
Parts marked with “o” at SP (Supply Code) column of
the spare parts list may not be stocked. Therefore, the
delivery date will be delayed.
4. Replacement of Optional Boards
If it is necessary to replace the following board, please
place an order the DVA-xxxx through the sales route.
Information about spare parts, etc. is not described in
this manual because the board should be replaced in
order to repair the DVA-R1100 (SPE-0145 board).

1-4. Circuit Operation
1-4.Circuit Operation
1-4-1. DVA-A1100
The DIO-56 board consists of the following circuit blocks:
1. Digital audio interface
2. LTC reader/generator
3. PCI-to-local-bus bridge
4. PLD & SRAM
1. Digital audio interface (IC1, IC2, IC3, and IC4)
This board uses a digital audio receiver (IC1, IC2) and digital audio transmitter (IC3, IC4) as the digital
audio interface IC.
The DI1 (CH1/2) signal that is input through the D-sub 25 pin connector is converted to a serial signal of
64 bits/sample by IC1, and input to the digital audio flow controller (IC5) and the SRAM (IC7 to IC9).
The DI2 (CH3/4) signal is also converted to a serial signal of 64 bits/sample by the audio receiver (IC2)
in the same way, and input to the digital audio flow controller and the SRAM.
In this board, the DI1 input signal is the master of the clock, so the digital audio receiver (IC1) generates
256 Fs and FSync from the DI1 input. These clock signals are sent to the FPGA and become the master
clock of all operations. Also, they are sent to the other digital audio interface ICs via the PLD & SRAM.
The 64 bits/sample serial signal that is output from the PLD & SRAM is converted to the digital audio
signals DO1 (CH1/2) and DO2 (CH3/4) by the digital audio transmitter (IC3, IC4).
The signals that should be added to the digital audio signal, such as the control bit, etc., are set from the
data bus of the IC1, IC2, IC3, and IC4. The bus is connected to the PCI-to-local-bus bridge, and receives/
sends data from/to the PC applications via the PCI bus.
The time code signal TCI/TCO that is input via the D-sub 25 pin connector is connected to the LTC
reader/generator (IC16) via the input/output buffer (IC14, IC15).
Receiving/sending of the time code data and controls are performed by the data bus IC16.
This bus is connected to the PLD & SRAM, and is used for processing that is synchronized with the time
code, in the PLD & SRAM.
Receiving/sending data and controls with the PC applications are performed through the bus that is
connected between the PLD & SRAM and PCI-to-local-bus bridge using the PLD & SRAM.

3. PCI-to-local-bus bridge
This block consists of the following :
PCI bus target interface (IC11)
Serial EEPROM for configuration information (IC13)
The block interfaces the PCI bus of the personal computer with the local bus of this board.
The local bus of this board is connected to the digital audio interface block and PLD & SRAM block.
The local bus is not connected to the LTC reader/generator block directly, but receives/sends or controls
the data via the PLD & SRAM block.
4. PLD & SRAM
This block consists of the following :
PLD (digital data flow controller, IC5)
PROM for configuration (IC6)
Static RAM (IC7, IC8, IC9, and IC10)
IC5 reads the digital audio data that is output from the digital audio interface, and sends it to the personal
computer via the PCI-to-local-bus bridge in accordance with the input time code that is output from the
LTC reader/generator.
In addition, IC5 outputs the data that is input from the personal computer via the PCI-to-local-bus bridge
to the digital audio interface.
The static RAM (IC7, IC8, IC9, and IC10) is a data buffer to protect the data from over- or underrunning.

1-4. Circuit Operation
1-4-2. DVA-P1100
The DVA-P1100 consists of two boards that are inserted into the ISA extension slot of a personal computer. The functions of each board are follows.
1. Encode board (ENC-49)
VLC encode :
This board quantizes the SDI signal that is input from the V IN connector to the 2-bit data, and
performs the coordinate position detection and run-length compression. Then, it creates the
DVD sub-picture data and sends it to the ISA bus.
Time code reader/generator :
In the reader mode, the time code data that is input to the TC-IN connector is transferred to the
ISA bus. In addition, the input time code is re-generated and output to the TC OUT connector.
In the generator mode, the generated time code is output to the TC OUT connector.
2. Decode board (DEC-104)
VLC decoding :
The DEC-104 board decodes the VLC data, combines it with the SDI input signal and outputs it.
Circuit Operation
ENC-49 board
. Encode system
The SDI video signal that is input to the V-IN connector (CN4) is quantized to 2-bit data by IC303 and
stored in the field memory (IC301, IC302). The frame delay is applied to the digital SDI data in order to
detect the coordinate position.
After the coordinate position is detected, the border information is added, the run-length compression is
processed then the data is generated as DVD sub-picture data that is supplied to the PC applications via
the ISA bus (CN3). The data is transferred to the DEC-104 board via the buffer and CN2 at the same
time. Real-time monitoring during encoding is possible.
The various setup parameters to quantize and generate data are written to the ISA bus (CN3) by the PC
application software, and sent to the IC303 via the ISA interface (IC503).
. Time code reader/generator system
The PC application software performs setup of the time code reader/generator controller (IC402) via the
ISA (CN3). At the same time, a hardware interrupt signal is issued to the ISA and any changes in the
time code value are sent to the personal computer. The application software of the personal computer can
read the time code value via ISA (CN3). The time code that is generated by the generator is output from
the TC OUT connector (CN7).
DEC-104 board
The SDI video signal that is input to the V-IN connector (CN4) is converted and adjusted to letter-box
size by IC600 according to the setting of the PC application software. Y/C separation is performed in
IC603 and the SDI video signal is sent to IC501.
The sub-picture data is sent to IC402 via the CN2 from the ENC-49 board. During preview it is sent to
IC402 via the CN3 by the application software of the personal computer.
Run-length decoding is performed by IC402, color information is added via the look-up table in IC500,
and data is sent to IC501.
The video signal and the sub-picture data are mixed in IC501 and output from CN6.
