CRX10U Quick Start Guide
This guide describes preparations to be made before using the CRX10U. Please read it
before using the drive.
Verify the Supplied Items
When unpacking the carton, verify that the following accessories are present along with the
CRX10U.
If anything is missing or damaged, please contact your place of purchase.

Setup Procedure
Attach the Ferrite Clamp.

Attach the ferrite clamp over the interface cable by closing it until it clicks.
The centre of the ferrite clamp should be positioned as shown.

Note
To satisfy radio-frequency interference suppression standards, be sure to install the ferrite clamp correctly. It
reduces the possibility interference with other devices.
2 Connect the cables.
Connect the CRX10U to a power outlet with the supplied AC adapter.
Connect the CRX10U to the computer with the supplied USB cable.

Using the CRX10U with Windows 98
If your Windows 98 version is older than Windows Second Edition, before connecting the
CRX10U to the computer, install Windows 98 Service Pack 1. If Windows 98 Service Pack
1 is not installed, USB connection problems may occur. Information about obtaining and
installing Windows 98 Service Pack 1 is available at Microsoft’s web site.
Using the CRX10U with Windows Me or Windows 2000
Once the CRX10U has been set up, the USB cable can be connected and removed while the
CRX10U and computer remain turned on. However, for Windows Me and Windows 2000,
we recommend clicking on the task bar and allowing the CRX10U to stop before
removing the cable. Otherwise, a warning message will be displayed when the USB cable is
removed.

CAUTION
• Do not connect any power supply other than the supplied AC Adapter (AC-CRX10U) and power cord.
• Connect the CRX10U directly to a USB port on the computer. Operation through a hub (including keyboard
USB hubs) cannot be guaranteed.
Note
The POWER switch on the CRX10U should be turned off while connecting the cables.

3 Turn the computer on.
Note
It does not matter whether the computer or CRX10U is turned on or off first.
t If the computer is a Macintosh, skip ahead to “ Macintosh Installing the Writer
Software and Connecting the CRX10U to the Computer.”
4 Turn the CRX10U POWER switch on.
The CRX10U POWER indicator lights green.
• On computers running Windows Me and Windows 2000, a “New Hardware Found”
or “Found New Hardware” message appears to indicate that new hardware was
detected, and the Windows standard driver software installs automatically.
• On computers running Windows 98, a “New Hardware Found” message appears,
followed by the “Add New Hardware Wizard” to install new drivers.
t On computers running Windows 98, skip ahead to “ Windows 98 Installing the
Driver Software.”
5 Verify the setup.
Double click the My Computer icon to verify that the CD-ROM drive icon has been
added. The CD-ROM drive icon indicates that the CRX10U has been set up successfully.
The CRX10U is now ready for operation as a CD-ROM drive.
What to do next
Writer software must be installed to use the CD-R/RW features of the CRX10U. To do this,
refer to the manual supplied with the bundled writer software. For details on CRX10U
operation, refer to the “User’s Guide”.
Windows 98
Installing the Driver Software
With Windows 98, when the CRX10U is first connected to the computer, the “Add New
Hardware Wizard” (Fig. 1) appears. Install the driver from the supplied Setup Diskette using
the following procedure.
1 Insert the supplied Setup Diskette in the
floppy disk drive.
Note
If the computer has only one USB port so that the
CRX10U and floppy drive cannot be connected at the
same time, follow this procedure to copy the driver
software to the hard disk:
Connect the floppy disk drive to the computer, insert
the supplied Setup Diskette, and create a new folder
in an appropriate location (e.g., TEMP on the C
drive). Copy all files from the Setup Diskette to the
new folder, and then disconnect the floppy drive from
the computer.

3 Insert a CD-ROM into the CRX10U, and verify that the disk icon appears on the
computer desktop.
If the CD-ROM disk icon appears, the CRX10U has been set up correctly.
The CRX10U is now ready for use as a CD-R/RW drive. See the “User’s Guide” for
details on operating the CRX10U.
Note
Please see the supplied “User’s Guide” for instructions on inserting CD-ROMs in the CRX10U.
Uninstalling the Driver Software
When using Windows 98 or a Macintosh, if the CRX10U is not recognized by the computer
or if it operates abnormally, uninstall the driver software and try installing it again.
Windows 98
1 Disconnect the CRX10U from the computer.
2 Insert the supplied Setup Diskette in the floppy disk drive.
2 Click Next, and select “Search for the best
driver for your device. (Recommended)”
(Fig. 2).
3 Click Next, make sure the “Specify a
location:” box is checked, and enter A:\ (if
drive A is the floppy disk drive, Fig. 3).
Note
• If the driver software was copied to the hard disk,
enter the path (location) of the folder where the
software was copied.
• Click Browse to select the driver software location
from a dialog box (in this case, the path of the folder
does not need to be entered manually).

3 Double click My Computer, the A: drive (if the floppy disk is in the A drive), and then
“uninsd200.exe”.
A message appears for you to confirm deletion.
4 Click Yes.
A message appears for you to confirm rebooting the computer.
5 Remove the Setup Diskette from the floppy disk drive, and click OK.
The driver software is uninstalled and the computer reboots.
Macintosh
1 Disconnect the CRX10U from the computer.
2 Open the Extensions folder in the System Folder.
3 Drag and drop the ISD 200 BOT Bridge icon from the Extensions folder to the Trash.
4 Click Next as needed until installation of
the USB Storage Adapter V2 is finished
(Fig. 4).

5 Click Finish.
The New Hardware Found message appears again, and the Storage Adapter Bridge
Module installs automatically.
6 Double click the My Computer icon to verify that the CD-ROM drive icon has been
added.
The CD-ROM drive icon indicates that the CRX10U has been set up successfully.
The CRX10U is now ready for operation as a CD-ROM drive.

refer to the manual supplied with the bundled writer software. For details on CRX10U

Installing the Writer Software and Connecting the CRX10U to
the Computer
With the Macintosh, the CRX10U driver software is installed when the supplied writer
software is installed, and the CRX10U is ready for use as a CD-R/RW drive.
1 Place the CD-ROM supplied with the software package in the Mac’s CD-ROM drive,
and install the writer software.
For details on the installation procedure, refer to the manual installed in the software
package.
2 Turn the CRX10U POWER switch on.
The CRX10U POWER indicator lights green.
If you are unable to obtain the required information from the above sources, contact the
office below. Please have the following information available if asking about an operational
failure or damage. Free telephone support is offered for 90 days from your first call.
• Mode: CRX10U
• Product number
• Date of purchase, and name of supplier
• Computer make and model number
• Computer specifications (CPU speed, memory size, OS version, etc.)
• Writer software used (version, etc.)
• Description of the failure, with as much detail as possible
• Whether any problems occurred when the product was first used, whether
