Operating Instructions
240 Volt Heat Cool Thermostat
3 Speed Fan - Non Programmable
Congratulations on the purchase of your new
Electronic Thermostat!
Your new Smart Temp thermostat has been built using the best
components and design philosophy. As a consequence of this,
if properly installed your new electronic thermostat will provide
you with years of trouble free and reliable service.
The Smart Temp SMT-503 has been designed to be attractive,
highly reliable and simple to use. Please take the time to read
these simple instruction to familiarise yourself with the function
and features that are offered in this product.
To turn the System On
With each press of the “ON/OFF” button, the SMT-503 will toggle between on and off mode. The SMT-503 retains in memory the last
temperature set point and operational mode. These values are used when turned on.
To Adjust the Set (or desired) Temperature
Using the up (+) or down (-) buttons to increase or decrease the desired room temperature. The LCD will indicate the current set temperature.
The SMT-503 display can be set to indicate room temperature as well as set temperature if required. (See jumper table to activate this function) If
the ambient temperature display mode is set to display room temperature the LCD will after a few seconds change to indicate the current room
temp.
To select the System Mode
With each press press of the “Mode” button the SMT-503 will toggle between Cool, Heat, Heat & Cool (Auto season change over) or fan only
modes.
Cool Mode: In cool only mode the thermostat will only activate the system cooling when the room temperature raises above the set (or
desired) temperature. Cool will be displayed in the LCD to indicate this mode is set. When the SMT-503 is calling for the system to
cool, the word “COOL” will flash slowly in the LCD
Heat Mode: In heat only mode, the thermostat will only activate the system heating when the room temperature falls below the set (or
desired) temperature. Heat will be displayed in the LCD to indicate this mode is set. When the SMT-503 is calling for the system to
heat, the word “HEAT” will flash slowly in the LCD.
Auto Season Change over Mode: (if enabled - see jumper table) In Auto mode the thermostat will automatically activate the system
heating or cooling to maintain the set (or desired) temperature to within 1 Deg C. For example, if the set temperature is 21 deg C, the
SMT-503 will activate the system cooling when the room temperature raises to 22 deg C or activate the system heating if the room
temperature falls to 20 deg. The LCD will indicate Auto Season Mode by displaying both “Heat & Cool” in the LCD. When the SMT-503
is calling for the system to heat or cool the appropriate word will flash slowly in the LCD.
Continuous Fan only Mode: (if enabled - see jumper table) In continuous fan only mode the SMT-503 will only run the system fan
regardless of the set and room temperature. The SMT-503 will not call for system heating or cooling. Fan only mode should be used to
improve building ventilation.
To select the Fan Mode (if enabled - see jumper table) .
The SMT-503 can control the system fan in a number of ways. In addition to the previously described Continuous Fan Only Mode (where the
system fan will run continuously without a call for system heating or cooling), the SMT-503 can also control the System Fan to run only during a
call for heating or cooling, or to run continuously AND call for system heating and cooling when required. To select the appropriate Fan mode
refer to the jumper table. When continuous fan mode is enabled the word FAN as well as Heat / cool will be in the thermostat display. If enabled
via the appropriate jumper, you can select Auto or Continuous fan mode by pressing and holding the FAN button until the word FAN appears (or
disappears) in the LCD.
Fan Mode
In Fan mode the system fan will run continuously, however the SMT-503 will also control the room temperature as dictated by the
Heating, Cooling or Auto modes described above. The SMT-503 will indicate that this mode is active by displaying the word “Fan” in
the lowest section of the LCD.
Auto Fan Mode ( No Fan Displayed in LCD)
In Auto Fan mode the SMT-503 will only turn on the system fan on with a call for system heating or cooling.

Advanced Installer Functions
Your SMT-503 has a number of advanced installer functions which
make it ideal for use in apartment, commercial offices or hotel room
applications. These advanced functions are accessed via a concealed
menu. These functions allow the installer to set the Maximum controlled
temperature, the Minimum controlled temperature and to activate the key
board lock. These values are retained in memory even during extensive
power outages.
To enter the advanced functions menu.
1. Set the room temp to display 10deg C with the Temp (-) button.

2. Press and hold the Mode button for 7~8 seconds.
3. The LCD will then display the word “Heat” and a numeric value in
the display (Default is 30). Using the Temp (+) or Temp (-) adjust
this value (if required) to indicate the Maximum permitted
temperature you wish the user to be able to set.
4. Press the mode button again, the LCD will then display the word
“Cool” and a numeric value in the display (Default is 10). Using the
Temp (+) or Temp (-) adjust this value (if required) to indicate the
Minimum permitted temperature you wish the user to be able to set.
5. Press the mode button again, the LCD will then display the letters
“OP” meaning open or unlocked. Using the temp (+) or Temp (-)
adjust this value (if required) to display the letters “LO” for locked.
This locks all buttons except the for the Temp “+” &” -” buttons.
“AUX” will appear in the LCD when the thermostat is locked.
6 Press the mode button again to end the setup menu. Please set the
desired temperature to a normal value (i.e. move it from the 10Deg
C required to enter the advanced function menu ).
Note: even though you have set a Minimum & Maximum control
temperature to values other than the default 30 and 10 deg
respectively, the user can still select a desired temperature outside
of the controlled range, however the SMT 503 will stop the air
conditioning system at your control limits
