Heat only programmable thermostat
General Description
The SMT-101 is programmable heating only thermostat designed for gas heating or Hydronic heating systems. It is easy to use and install and by following these instructions you will get many years of trouble free service from this thermostat.
Operation
Your SMT-101 has a real time clock that must be set if it is to control your heating system accurately.
Setting the clock is a very simple process
Step 1 Press button 2 - Clock set, the current hour will flash in the LCD. Use the Temp +/- (buttons 6 & 7) to set the correct hour.

Step 2 Tap the Clock button again and now the minute flashes. Again use the temp +/- buttons to set the current minute.
Step 3 Tap the clock button again and now the day of the week flashes. Adjust to the correct day with the temp +/- buttons. The Clock is now set.
Programming
As demonstrated above when setting the clock, using your SMT-101 thermostat is an easy and intuitive process, setting your thermostat 5+1+1 day program is equally as simple as setting the clock.
The, SMT-101 has 4 daily schedules, These are numbered one through four and have a graphic icon associated with them.
1 - Wake. This is typically the temperature you wish wake to in the mornings.
2- Leave. This is the temperature you wish while you are away from your home at work for example.
3 - Return. This is the temperature you wish to
Each of the 4 events will last until the next event arrives to override it. This way you have 24 hours of programmable comfort.

These are the simple steps required to Program your SMT-101.
Step 1 Ensure the SMT-101 has been switch on.
Step 2 Press the “P” (program) button once. The LCD will show Monday through Friday flashing at the top of the LCD indicating that you are now programming the weekday temperature settings. The wake symbol will show in the LCD.
Step 3 Use the temperature up or down button to set the “Wake” time your desired value.
Step 4 Tap the Clock button and now the set temperature flashes in the LCD. Again use the temperature up / down button to set your desired temperature that you require to commence at the time you previously set in step 3 above. Your SMT1-101 will turn your heating on or off as required to maintain this temperature. This set temperature will remain active until the program 2 time arrives where program 2 temperature will be active.
Step 5 Tap the “P” again and now the time flashes for the weekday event 2. Again set the event 2 time with the temp +/- buttons and change to the event 2 temperature by tapping the clock button.
Repeat this procedure for the event 3 & 4 for the weekdays, then the 4 events for Saturday and Sunday.
Remember - each event temperature will be maintained until the following event overrides

Installer Options
Program override
Should you wish to temporarily override your current programmed temperature, simply press the temp +/- buttons and adjust the currently set temperature to your new value. This new value will remain until the next program event begins.
Permanent Temperature override.
Should you wish the SMT-101 to maintain a constant set temperature throughout the day and not automatically change the set temperature, press and hold the “R” button until “Program Running” is replaced in the LCD with “HOLD”. The currently displayed set temperature will be maintained continuously or until the SMT-101 is turned off.
Vacation Hold
When you leave you home for extended periods of time you can program your thermostat to be off, and automatically turn back on to your programed values in a set number of days. Press and hold the “P” button until the LCD shows the word “Vacation”, the clock will now show days for the vacation timer to run. Tap the clock button to advance the days and tap the “P” button to reduce the days you wish the thermostat to remain OFF before resuming its programed events. Press the “R” button to cancel the vacation timer and resume normal thermostat operation.
Anti freeze function
When your SMT-101 is switched OFF, to protect the home and contents your SMT-101 will maintain a home temperature of 5c automatically.
Battery Replacement
Your thermostat operates on 2 x AA ALKALINE batteries. When the low battery symbol flashes replace the batteries.
Turn the power OFF to your heater at the main fuse as mains voltage may be inside the thermostat.
Loosen the two securing screws on the bottom of the thermostat and take the front half of the thermostat off the wall.
Replace the 2 batteries with GOOD QUALITY alkaline batteries.
Replace the front of the thermostat and tighten the securing screws.
Turn your heater on at the main switch.
Installation
There are a number of advanced functions that can be set in the advanced installer menu. To enter this menu make sure the thermostat is OFF by tapping the On/off button.
With the thermostat off press and hold the ” P” program button. The LCD will change to display the first adjustable value. These values are adjusted with the temperature up and down buttons. To advance through the settings tap the “P” button
01 Temperature Display Calibration.
This permits you to add or subtract up to 3 deg C from the room temperature display if you think this value is incorrect.
02 Maximum permitted temperature.
This limits the maximum set temperature that the user can select. Default value is 35
03 Minimum permitted set temperature.
This limits the lowest permitted set temperature that can be adjusted. Default value is 5
04 Display type
This permits you to select deg C or deg F display. default value is C.
05 Cycle rate.
You can select how quickly you wish the thermostat to respond to room temperature changes, slowly (SL) or quickly (FA). When fast is selected the room temp will be maintained to within 1 deg of the set temp. When slow is selected room temperature will be maintained to within 3 deg of the set temperature. Default value is FA (Fast)
06 Pump protection.
If using the SMT-101 on hydronic heating systems turning pump protection on will run the pump for at least 15 seconds every 24 hours. Default is “00” Off. “PP” indicates that pump protection is on.
