1 Intended Use
The SunnyBoyStorage is a single-phase, AC coupled battery inverter for parallel grid operation.
The SunnyBoyStorage converts the direct current supplied by a battery into grid-compliant
alternating current. With a lithium-ion battery and the energy meter, the SunnyBoyStorage
becomes a system for increased self-consumption.
The SunnyBoyStorage must only be operated in connection with an intrinsically safe lithium-ion
battery approved by SMA Solar Technology AG. An updated list of batteries approved by SMA
Solar Technology AG is available at www.SMA-Solar.com.
The lithium-ion battery must comply with the locally applicable standards and directives and must
be intrinsically safe (see technical information "SMA Flexible Storage System - Detailed
explanations of the safety concept" for detailed explanations regarding the safety concept of
battery inverters by SMA Solar Technology AG). The battery management of the used lithium-ion
battery must be compatible with the Sunny Boy Storage. The entire battery voltage range must be
completely within the permissible input voltage range of the SunnyBoyStorage. The maximum
permissible DC input voltage of the SunnyBoyStorage must not be exceeded.
The SunnyBoyStorage is suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
The Sunny Boy Storage is not suitable for supplying life-sustaining medical devices. A power outage
must not lead to personal injury.
All components must remain within their permitted operating ranges and their installation
requirements at all times.
The product must only be used in countries for which it is approved or released by SMA Solar
Technology AG and the grid operator.
Use this product only in accordance with the information provided in the enclosed documentation
and with the locally applicable standards and directives. Any other application may cause
personal injury or property damage.
Alterations to the product, e.g. changes or modifications, are only permitted with the express written
permission of SMA Solar Technology AG. Unauthorized alterations will void guarantee and
warranty claims and in most cases terminate the operating license. SMA Solar Technology AG
shall not be held liable for any damage caused by such changes.
Any use of the product other than that described in the Intended Use section does not qualify as
appropriate.
The enclosed documentation is an integral part of this product. Keep the documentation in a
convenient place for future reference and observe all instructions contained therein.
The type label must remain permanently attached to the product.

The DC cables connected to a battery are live. Touching the DC conductors or the live
components leads to lethal electric shocks.
• Do not touch non-insulated cable ends.
• Do not touch the DC conductors.

• Have the inverter and the battery mounted, installed and commissioned only by qualified
persons with the appropriate skills.
• Observe all safety information of the battery manufacturer.
• Prior to performing any work on the inverter or the battery, disconnect the inverter from all
voltage sources as described in this document.
• If an error occurs, have it rectified by qualified persons only.

Damage to the battery due to incorrect settings
The set battery parameters influence the charging behavior of the inverter. The battery can be
damaged by incorrect settings of the battery type, nominal voltage and capacity parameters.
• Set the correct battery type as well as the correct values for nominal voltage and battery
capacity when configuring.
• Ensure that the values recommended by the manufacturer are set for the battery (refer to the
technical data of the battery in the manufacturer documentation).
Risk of burns due to hot enclosure parts
Some parts of the enclosure can get hot during operation.
• Mount the inverter in such a way that it cannot be touched inadvertently during operation.
Damage to the inverter due to the use of cleaning agents
• If the inverter is dirty, clean the enclosure, the enclosure lid, the type label and the LEDs using
only clean water and a cloth.

Der Sunny Boy Storage darf nur in Verbindung mit einer von SMA Solar Technology AG

Kurzschluss-Ströme der Batterie können Hitzeentwicklungen und Lichtbögen verursachen.
Verbrennungen oder Augenverletzungen durch Lichtblitze können die Folge sein.
• Uhren, Ringe und andere Metallobjekte ablegen.
• Isoliertes Werkzeug verwenden.
• Keine Werkzeuge oder Metallteile auf die Batterie legen.
Beschädigung der Batterie durch fehlerhafte Einstellungen
Die für die Batterie eingestellten Parameter beeinflussen das Ladeverhalten des Wechselrichters.
Die Batterie kann durch falsche Einstellungen der Parameter für Batterietyp, Nennspannung der
Batterie und Batteriekapazität beschädigt werden.
• Bei der Konfiguration den korrekten Batterietyp und die korrekten Werte für Nennspannung
und Batteriekapazität einstellen.
• Sicherstellen, dass die vom Hersteller empfohlenen Werte für die Batterie eingestellt sind
(Technische Daten der Batterie siehe Dokumentation des Batterieherstellers).

4 Installation
Risque de blessure par courants de court-circuit
Les courants de court-circuit de la batterie peuvent provoquer des dégagements de chaleur et des
arcs électriques. Il peut en résulter des brûlures ou des lésions oculaires du fait des éclairs
lumineux.
• Retirez vos montres, bagues et autres objets métalliques.
• Utilisez un outillage isolé électriquement.
• Ne posez pas d’outils ni de pièces métalliques sur la batterie.
Détérioration de la batterie due à des réglages incorrects
Les paramètres de la batterie influent sur le comportement de charge de l’onduleur. La batterie
peut être détériorée suite à des réglages incorrects des paramètres relatifs au type de batterie, à
la tension nominale et à la capacité de la batterie.
• Lors de la configuration, veuillez vérifier que le type de batterie et les valeurs pour la tension
nominale et la capacité de batterie sont corrects.
• Assurez-vous de bien régler les valeurs recommandées par le fabricant de la batterie
(caractéristiques techniques de la batterie, voir documentation du fabricant de la batterie).
Risque de brûlure au contact de composants chauds du boîtier
Des pièces du boîtier peuvent devenir très chaudes en cours de service.
• Montez l’onduleur de façon à exclure tout contact involontaire lors du fonctionnement.

Sunny Boy Storage è un inverter monofase con batteria, allacciato sul lato CA per il funzionamento
in parallelo alla rete. SunnyBoyStorage è trasforma la corrente continua proveniente da una
batteria in corrente alternata compatibile con la rete. Insieme alla batteria agli ioni di litio e al
contatore di energia, Sunny Boy Storage rappresenta un sistema di ottimizzazione
dell’autoconsumo.
Sunny Boy Storage può essere utilizzato solamente in combinazione con una batteria agli ioni di
litio approvata da SMA Solar Technology AG e a sicurezza intrinseca. Un elenco aggiornato delle
batterie approvate da SMA Solar Technology AG è reperibile sul sito www.SMA-Solar.com.
La batteria agli ioni di litio deve soddisfare norme e direttive vigenti in loco ed essere a sicurezza
intrinseca (per informazioni dettagliate sul concetto di sicurezza di un inverter con batteria SMA
Solar Technology AG v. l’informazione tecnica “SMA Flexible Storage System - Detailed
explanations of the safety concept”). Il sistema di gestione della batteria agli ioni di litio utilizzata
deve essere compatibile con Sunny Boy Storage. L’intero range di tensione batteria deve rientrare
completamente nel range di tensione d’ingresso consentito di Sunny Boy Storage. La tensione
d’ingresso CC massima consentita di Sunny Boy Storage non deve essere superata.
Sunny Boy Storage è adatto all’uso in ambienti sia esterni che interni.
Sunny Boy Storage non è adatto per l’alimentazione di apparecchiature mediche salvavita. Una
eventuale interruzione di corrente non deve comportare alcun danno a persone.
Tutti i componenti devono sempre rispettare il range di valori consentiti e i requisiti di installazione.
Il prodotto può essere impiegato solo nei paesi per cui è omologato o autorizzato da SMA Solar

Durante il funzionamento il prodotto può surriscaldarsi: evitare pertanto il
contatto in questa fase. Evitare pertanto il contatto durante il funzionamento. Prima di qualsiasi operazione, lasciar raffreddare a sufficienza il
prodotto.
Avviso
Questo simbolo ammonisce contro pericoli generali. In questo caso segnala che l’inverter deve essere ulteriormente messo a terra se a livello locale è richiesta una seconda messa a terra o un collegamento equipotenziale.
Conduttore di protezione
Questo simbolo indica il punto di collegamento di un conduttore di protezione.
Pericolo di morte per alta tensione nell’inverter: rispettare il tempo
di attesa, pari a 5 minuti.
Nei componenti sotto tensione all’interno dell’inverter sono presenti tensioni elevate che possono causare folgorazioni potenzialmente letali.
Prima di eseguire qualsiasi intervento sull’inverter, disinserire sempre la tensione.

I cavi CC collegati alla batteria sono sotto tensione. Il contatto con conduttori CC o componenti

• Non toccare le estremità di cavi a vista.
• Non toccare i conduttori CC.
• Non toccare nessun componente sotto tensione.
• Affidare il montaggio, l’installazione e la messa in servizio dell’inverter e della batteria
esclusivamente a tecnici specializzati provvisti di apposita qualifica.
• Osservare tutte le avvertenze di sicurezza del produttore della batteria.
• Prima di eseguire qualsiasi operazione su inverter e batteria, disinserire sempre la tensione
come descritto nel presente documento.
• In caso di errore, incaricare esclusivamente un tecnico specializzato della sua risoluzione.

Pericolo di lesioni dovuto a correnti di cortocircuito
Le correnti di cortocircuito della batteria possono generare calore e archi voltaici. Ciò può
causare ustioni o lesioni agli occhi a causa dei lampi di luce.
• Togliere orologi, anelli e altri oggetti metallici.
• Utilizzare attrezzi isolati.
• Non appoggiare attrezzi o componenti metallici sulla batteria.
Danneggiamento della batteria dovuto a impostazioni errate
I parametri impostati per la batteria influiscono sul comportamento di carica di dell’inverter.
L’impostazione errata di parametri relativi a tipo di batteria, tensione nominale e capacità può
danneggiare la batteria.
• Al momento della configurazione, impostare il tipo di batteria e i valori corretti di tensione
nominale e capacità della batteria.
• Accertarsi che siano impostati i valori consigliati dal produttore della batteria (per i dati
tecnici della batteria v. la documentazione del produttore della batteria).
Pericolo di ustioni per contatto con parti surriscaldate dell’involucro
Durante il funzionamento alcune parti dell’involucro possono riscaldarsi.
• Montare l’inverter in modo da escludere ogni possibile contatto involontario quando lo
stesso è in funzione.

• Se l’inverter è sporco, pulire l’involucro, il coperchio dell’involucro, la targhetta di
