You have purchased a quality receiver from the SKYMASTER®programme. Our products are constantly
subjected to strict quality control to enable us to guarantee that you can enjoy our products. Welcome to
the new era of digital television! The SKYMASTER®DVR 9500 and 9600 is a digital satellite receiver with
many special functions and a 40 GB hard disk for recording TV broadcasts in absolutely enticing picture
and sound quality! The two CI slots (DVR 9600) enable the use of CAM modules for decoding encoded
broadcasts. Please note that you need a suitable digital satellite antenna to operate the SKYMASTER

®

DVR 9500 and 9600.

To be able to receive ASTRA and EUTELSAT, it must be equipped with a universal LNB.

Please read this safety information thoroughly before commissioning the device!
Prolonged absence: In the event of prolonged absence or thunderstorms, remove the mains plug of
the device from the wall socket. Also disconnect the antenna connections to avoid storm damage.

Cleaning: Remove the mains plug before cleaning the device. Use a dry or damp cloth and make sure

that no moisture penetrates the device!
Objects in the device: Make sure that no objects can enter the ventilation slots. There is risk of death

through electric shock!
Repair: Repairs must be performed by qualified experts. In the event of improper intervention by a third

party, the warranty will be voided and the safety of the device can no longer be guaranteed! Never open
the housing of the device yourself: Even when disconnected from the mains, there is an acute risk of
death through electric shock. Internal components can be damaged if touched.

Place of installation: Place the device on a straight and even surface. To protect the surface from being
discoloured as a result of the natural heat generated by the device, place the device on a suitable underlay.

Adequate ventilation: The ventilation slots on the device must never be covered. Ensure that the device
has a clearance of at least 10 cm at the sides and top, and that the heat can be dissipated upwards
unimpeded.

External influences: Never expose the device to moisture (e.g. condensation or splash water) or direct
sunlight. Do not place the device in the vicinity of heat sources, such as e.g. heaters or devices that heat up.

Mains voltage: Use the equipment with the voltage specified on the case only! Do not plug the equipment
into the mains until all connection and installation work has been completed.

Earthing: Antenna systems must always be earthed, paying heed to the pertinent local and VDE
regulations.

Selecting the antenna location.

Viewed from Europe, all TV satellites are located in the south, therefore you must select the installation
location so that the antenna points southwards. The satellite systems with the largest, freely receivable
programme ranges are ASTRA® (19.2° east) and HOTBIRD (13° east). Viewed from Central Europe, these
satellite positions are located just a few degrees east of the exact south direction.

When selecting the installation location, you must ensure that the
antenna is not covered by obstacles, such as e.g. bushes, trees,
walls or roof overhangs. Installation beneath the roof is not
possible! The antenna should be installed on a house wall
protected from the wind, if possible.

The necessary wall mounting is available as an accessory and is
not part of this system. If mounting on the roof, the antenna
should be fixed as low as possible on a mast.

The local VDE regulations, which prescribe potential and lightning
protection regulations, must be observed.

Alignment with a satellite.

Leave the screws loose on the mast bracket until you have set the final position!
After fixing the antenna at its location, you should have it point southwards with the LNB in front.

The antenna height is set using the scale on the mounting plate.
To set the height, bend the antenna up and down carefully, until
the desired number of degrees is set.

The specified values can naturally only apply for vertically
mounted masts or wall brackets.

When setting the angle, do not pull on the LNB mounting arm
(risk of breaking!).

For precise alignment of the antenna, the complete cabling must now be connected.

The television and the receiver should be located in the immediate vicinity of the antenna.

It is almost impossible to align the reception system by “shouting” e.g. from a distant television. A SAT
finder (art. no. 37351) or the signal strength indicator on a digital receiver is ideal for aligning the antenna.

Leave the equipment disconnected from the mains supply until cabling is complete!
Connect the antenna cable to the LNB. Carefully introduce the copper-coloured internal conductor of the
cable into the LNB socket. Place the thread of the plug directly onto the socket and screw the plug as
tightly as you can by hand. Fix the other end of the cable to the jack on the satellite receiver in the same
way (LNB IN).
With a scart cable, connect the scart socket of the receiver (TV) to the scart socket of your television.
Your cabling now looks like this:

Please insert the provided batteries into the remote control.

Now connect your television and the receiver to the mains.
Press the Stand By button on the receiver or on the remote control.

It may be necessary to switch your television into so-called A/V mode. You can do this with the remote
control on your television. The procedure is different for each television unit. The relevant button could be
marked 0, AV or EXT. Please refer to the instructions for your television.

You must now move the preset antenna in millimetre steps, with the screws only hand-tight. Please note
that there must not be any obstacles between antenna and reception direction, and that you must not
stand in front of the antenna area. When you have mounted the antenna precisely southwards, as
described above, and have set a height angle as specified in the table, turn the antenna slowly to the left,
i.e. to the east. (If the antenna is being installed in Eastern Europe, turn it slowly to the west).

When moving the antenna, observe the screen or any signal indications provided (e.g. Sat finder/Digital
receiver). When a signal/TV picture appears, switch between a few programmes on the receiver to
check whether the antenna is aligned to the correct satellite. When the signal quality has reached its
maximum, you should also move the height angle up and down slightly, in the smallest steps, to further
optimise the quality.
If you do not obtain any reaction or only a weak signal level, you should alter the height angle by a few
millimetres up or down and start the satellite search again by swivelling to the side.

When you have optimally set the antenna, tighten the screws on the antenna. Observe the screen at the
same time, as sometimes the antenna is moved slightly during fixing and the signal strength decreases
again.

Fitting an F-plug, if you need to shorten your cable

IMPORTANT: Please proceed with great caution when fitting the F-plug. Failure to comply with the
following instructions could cause malfunctions or destruction of the SAT receiver!! – Please use only
continuous antenna cables.

• Strip the cable for a length of 8 mm as far as the
internal conductor (with a sharp knife).

• Remove the protruding wires of the shielding braid.

• Remove 10 mm of the plastic casing until the shielding
braid is bared.

• Make sure that no wires of the shielding braid can
touch the internal conductor.

• Carefully screw the F-plug onto the cable, until the
internal conductor terminates flush with the front edge
of the F-plug. The shielding braid is now connected to
the F-plug.

• Check the F-plug for short circuits. Look into the F-plug
from the front; the internal conductor must be located
on its own in the centre and must not be touched by
any wires of the shielding braid!

and remove it. Display the extended event information when the
information box is displayed.

Remove EPG when EPG is displayed.

11. MENU Button Display the Menu on screen or return to previous

menu from submenu.

12. SOUND Button Select Sound Track and LEFT/ RIGHT / MONO /

STEREO sound. Select the multifeed channel if multifeed is available.

Change the value of the selected item in Menu.

Connection to the SAT antenna

The DiSEqC technology allows a large number of connection variants e.g.:

• A permanently aligned SAT antenna

• Two permanently aligned SAT antennae or Multifeed antennae with DiSEqC 2-way switch (art. no. 3932)

• 4 permanently aligned SAT antennae with a DiSEqC 4-way switch (art. no. 3934)

• 2 permanently aligned Multifeed antennae with DiSEqC 4-way switch (art. no. 3934)

• A rotating DiSEqC 1.2 rotor system, combined with several permanently aligned antennae

TIP: One or more Universal LNBs (reception converters) are required to receive satellite programmes. The
following technical data should be stated on the adhesive label of the LNB: 10.6 GHz (or 10,600 MHz) and

9.75 GHz (or 9,750 MHz) for the so-called oscillator frequencies. No other values or data are relevant, and
the receiver is ready for operation after connection.
Proceed with the utmost caution when preparing the antenna cable! As voltages and switching signals are
transported via the antenna cable, you must make sure that the shielding braid and the aluminium foil

have good contact with the F-plug and that no short-circuit occurs in the inter­nal conductor of the cable! After screwing on the F-plug, check that the inter­nal conductor is not being touched by any of the wires of the shielding braid.

A signal strength indicator is provided for aligning the antenna. Slowly swivel
the antenna southwards, observing the signal display on the screen. If you
cannot find a signal, change the inclination of the antenna a little. When
aligning for the first time, it is advisable to directly connect the antenna and
receiver using the shortest possible antenna cable, in order to exclude potential
error sources

For fixed or rotating antenna systems with

1x Universal Single LNB.

Only one cable will be used between LNB and
receiver. Setting in menu “LNB settings”:
feed-through.
Both tuner will receive only signals from one
SAT-IF selection (H/V Low/High).
Remark: Independent use of both tuners for
record and play is limited!

Connecting to the TV unit

You use a SCART cable for connecting to the TV set. If you have a TV with a 16:9 screen, for example, you
can adjust the settings to match your TV set in the receiver's screen menu. The default screen format is 4:3.
If your TV set does not have a Scart socket, use an appropriate adapter or use the 3 cinch outputs

Connecting to a video recorder

Connect the video recorder and the satellite receiver using a Scart cable. By means of the Scart socket it
is possible to record SAT programmes and to loop the playback of video cassettes through to the TV Scart
socket.
If your video recorder does not have a Scart socket, use an appropriate adapter or use the 3 cinch outputs

Connecting to a stereo system

Analogue: The sound of the TV and radio programmes can be reproduced via your stereo system.

Connect the two audio cinch sockets to a free input of your hi-fi system (e.g. AUX, Line IN, CD or Tuner).
Inputs with the designation “Phono” are not suitable!

Digital: Connect the receiver and your AC3/surround system to the optical digital output of the
SAT receiver.

Press the Power button to operate the DVR from the STANDBY mode. Now, the Info Box will appear
for a given time and disappear. By pressing info button, the Info Box will remain on the screen. The
display time of the Info Box is adjustable in the System Setting menu of the Main menu.
If the current broadcast has EPG (Electronic Program Guide) with it, press the guide button to see not
only the current channels but also other channels EPG without any time constrains.
Also, press button to reserve and save the current service and to watch the broadcast
automatically when it starts.

IMPORTANT: Before taking charge of your new DVR, some important technical settings are essential.

• First, press the MENU button on the RCU to make the Main Menu
appear.

• Go to the LNB Setting item in the Installation menu and press OK
button.

• Choose the right parameters for Satellite Name, Tuner Select, Connection
Type, LNB Frequency, LNB Power, 22KHz, DiSEqC 1.1 and DiSEqC 1.0.0

• Set the Motorized DiSEqC1.2 and the USALS items according to your
antenna, LNB and satellite settings. If the right Satellite Name and LNB
Frequency were not found in the list, call the dealer for satellite
information.
If you are not sure, please use LNB frequency setting 9750/10600 and
put LNB power to “on”.

• Then, press button at Channel Search item and go to the Channel
Search menu.

• Set the Search Mode to the Auto. (Manual, Advanced or SMATV Search)

• Select the Start Search... item and press OK button.

Now this chapter assumes that the DVR system has been installed correctly,
meaning:

• The satellite antenna for the DVR has been installed, connected to the
DVR.

• The DVR is connected to the TV.

• The RCU has batteries and ready to control the DVR.

If the DVR has not been installed or connected properly, please refer to the
INSTALLATION menu on this manual.
Many of the functions of the DVR are available from the Main Menu. Press
menu button to open it.

Various time modes can be set, such as the current time, the Power On/Off
time and the Sleep Time.
The exact local present time can be adjusted by using the GMT, the Time
Offset and the Mode sub menus.
PLEASE NOTE: Configure the Local Time before adjusting the Wakeup Tiem,
Power Off Time or the Sleep Time.

I-1. Time Setting

Press button at Local Time Setting item in the Time Setting menu to
open the Local Time Setting menu. Inside Local Time Setting menu, There
are 5 sub menus: Mode, Local Time, GMT, Time Offset and GMT Collection.

Mode

By using and buttons, you can select on of the Auto/Manual mode.
The Auto mode updates the time settings automatically by the GMT received
from the broadcast and the Time Offset you have inserted. The Auto mode is
recommended.

Local Time

The Local Time is adjustable only when the Mode is in the Manual mode.
Adjust the current time, if necessary, by using the numeric buttons and

and buttons.

GMT

GMT is referred to the standard time of Greenwich. It cannot be changed.

Time Offset

The current time of the local area can be inserted. In another words, insert
the time difference of the local time zone from the GMT. For example, if the
local area is Seoul (the time difference from the GMT is 9), insert 9:00. The
time is adjustable by using and buttons, 15 minutes at a time.

GMT Collection

Modify this setting only, in case GMT world clock synchronisation should be
used from special transponder.

B. Timer

Use the and buttons to select the On/Off mode. If the Timer item is
set on ON, the Wakeup Time item, the Wakeup Channel item and the Power
Off Time item becomes adjustable.

C. Wakeup Time

The Wakeup Time item sets up the time the DVR automatically turns on.
Inserts the preferable Wakeup Time by using numeric-buttons and
the and buttons on the RCU. To disable the wakeup function, make
the Timer item Off.

D. Wakeup Channel

The Wakeup Channel item automatically turns the DVR to the preset channel
when automatically turns on by the Wakeup function.

E. Power Off Time

The Power Off Time menu sets the time of the DVR automatically turns off.

F. Sleep Time

The Sleep Time item is similar to the Power Off menu. The Sleep Time
function turns off after the adjusted sleep time.

I-2. Parental Control

Password to various menus can be configured. The PIN Code box will auto­matically appear when this menu is selected. The default PIN Code is 0000.

A. Censorship

The Censorship item blocks programs according to each specific setting.
Use and buttons to select the items below.

No Block: Access to everyone.
4-18 (age): Inaccessible for viewers within each minimum age limit if a

maturing rating of the event is same or lower than the age
limit.

Total Block: Access to no one without PIN code.
If the channel is limitation free, the block function will not work.

In case of inaccessible, the DVR asks the PIN Code and check the age limit.

B. Change PIN Code

Go to the Change PIN Code item to configure new PIN Code. Press OK
button, then a box will appear on the screen. Enter the PIN code by using
the numeric buttons on your RCU.

C. Access Control

The Access Control menu controls access to following items:

• Time Setting

• Language Setting

• A/V Output Setting

• Organizing Channels

• Organizing Favorites

• Installation

• IRD Lock.

Press and buttons to Locked/Unlocked the access. Locked means
controlling the access to the specific menus with the PIN Code system. The
default PIN Code is 0000.

I-3. Language Setting

There are many languages available for the menu.

A. Menu Language

It is an item for changing the language of the Main menu.
Select the language that the menus will be shown in.

B. Subtitle Language

It is an item for changing the language of the subtitle.

I-4. A/V Output Setting

The PVR has many A/V Outputs. Control this menu properly according to
external components connected to the PVR. Configurations concerning Audio
and Video can be made here.

A. TV Type

Select your TV standard. For automatic PAL/NTSC selection, set it to Multi.

B. Video Output

Select the mode of Video output among RGB, S-Video, YUV and CVBS on TV
SCART by using and buttons.

C. VCR SCART Type

Select the VCR SCART type either Standard or External A/V. In case of
External A/V, the source of TV SCART Output will be selected between VCR
SCART input and internal AV by pressing button on the RCU. In case of
Standard, it will be done automatically by the SCART functionality.

D. TV Aspect Ratio

Select your TV screen format. Select 4:3 or 16:9 mode by using and

buttons.

E. 16:9 Display Format

If you have a TV set with the 4:3 picture format and transmission is in 16:9,
you can select the display format. Select the Letter Box or Center extract by
using and buttons.

F. Sound Mode

It allows you to configure the sound mode. Select the Stereo, Mono, Left and
Right mode by using and buttons.

The Sound mode is configurable later on by using button on your RCU.

I-5. OSD Transparency

Adjust the OSD transparency of all the menus. The available levels are
ranging from 0% to 50%.

I-6.Info Box Display Time

Adjust the time-out of the Info Box. Set the period of time that the Info Box is
displayed on screen. The adjustable time is 0 to 30 seconds, No info box and
Never Hide.

I-7. Info Box Position

Adjust the position of the Info Box. It allows you to change the position by
using and buttons.

This menu can be used to rename, reorder, lock, hide and delete TV
Services.

A. Browse

Press OK button. Now, browsing through the Organizing Channels is
possible. Press assigned buttons on the help message.

B. Rename

Use and buttons to select Rename item and press OK
button to move the cursor to the Channel List.
Press OK button to display keyboard, and rename the channel.
After renaming it, be sure to save it by pressing
OK button at Save item.

C. Move

You can reorder and move the service to the preferred position. Mark the
desired channel to move and press OK button. Use and
buttons to choose the Move mode.

D. Lock

You can restrain and lock the services. From here, locking (and later
unlocking) channels in any of the lists is possible e.g. in order to prevent
children from watching it. If a locked service is selected, you should enter
the PIN code in order to enjoy it.

E. Skip

You can hide and skip the services. In order to unlock the skip function,
press OK button on the skipped channel. The skipped channels will
not be visible on the channel list.

F. Delete

Press OK button to delete channels. The delete function differs from
the skip function as it deletes the channel completely. Whereas, the skip
function just makes the channel invisible.
NOTE: Deleted channels are permanently deleted. The only way to recover
them is to perform a new channel search.

G. Sort

You can sort and rearrange the channel list.

This mode is helpful in adding and deleting services to and from the favorite
group. Under the menu Organizing Favorites, there are three different
modes:
Fav List , Fav CHs and TV or Radio Ch List.

On the Fav List mode, four standard lists are selected as the default menus:
News, Sports, Movie and Music. Up to 30 lists including these lists can be
added and renamed. When deleting a service, select a service in the Fav
CHs section and press the assigned button on the help message.
To add services into Favorites, locate the cursor to the desired service in Ch
List and press OK button.
To delete a service from Favorites, locate the cursor to the service in
Fav CHs and press OK button.

To record the service you want, you have to set the following options. You
can record the service immediately.To reserve a recording, you have to use
Timer Setting function in System Setting at Main menu. You can go to the
Timer Setting menu directly by selecting Timer Setting item in this menu,
too.

IV-1. Satellite

Press OK button to display the satellite list. Select a satellite that
includes the channel to be recorded.

IV-2. Channel

Press OK button to display the channel list. Select a channel to be
recorded.

IV-3. Mode

There are two recording modes.
To record the selected service immediately, select the Quick mode.
To record current event including the data in the time shifting buffer, select
Current Event mode. The Current Event mode is valid only when the event
information of the channel exists.

IV-4. Duration

To change the duration of the recording time, press and button.

IV-5. File Name

To change the file name of the service to be recorded, press
OK button at this item.

IV-6. Start

To start recording immediately, press OK button at this item. For
reservation you may use Timer Setting in System Setting menu.

IV-8. Delayed Recording

In this menu you can reserve delayed recording.

A. Satellite

Press OK button to display the satellite list. Select a satellite that
includes the channel to be recorded.

B. Channel

Press OK button to display the channel list. Select a channel to be
recorded.

C. Mode

There are 5 different modes.

• Select One Time ro record the channel only once.

•

Select Every Day to record the same channel at the same time of every day.

• Select Weekly to record the same channel at the same time on the same
weekday

• Select Every Weekend to record the same channel at the same time on
every weekend. This menu is enabled when the Date menu is set to
Saturday or Sunday.

• Select Every Weekday to record the same channel at the same time on
every weekday. This menu is enabled when the Date menu is set from
Monday to Friday.

D. Date

To change the recording start date, press button.

E. Start Time

To change the recording duration, press button or enter the time
using the numeric buttens.

F. Duration

To change the recording duration, press button.

G. OK

To confirm the setting for the delayed recording, press

button. Be sure

to confirm it if you want to register the current setting for delayed recording,

You can use this menu to manage the HDD and the functions related to the HDD.

V-2. Format Hard Disk

To format the HDD in DVR, press button at this item. Format Hard Disk will
delete all the data and the files in HDD permanently. DVR is different from
that of PC. You cannot use Time shifting, Recording and Playback functions
with an unformatted HDD.

V-3. Time Shifting

To enable time shifting function, select Enable. If the Time Shifting is
enabled, this DVR records the current channel in normal play.And, you can
take advantage of the time shifting function. To disable time shifting
function, select Disable. If you don’t want to use time shifting function,
disable the time shifting to reduce the power consumption.

VI-1. LNB Setting

The Low Noise Blockdown Converter (LNB) amplifies the signal received by
the satellite dish and lowers the frequency of the signal. The signal is then
fed from the LNB at the dish via cable to the DVR.
For the LNB Settings, move the cursor to Installation item and press button.
Then, move the cursor to the LNB Setting item and press button.

A. Satellite Name

Press the button to display the Satellite List. The Satellite name list is
put in alphabetical order. Select one of the preprogrammed satellites that
correspond to the value of the antenna. If the desired satellite name is not in
the list, then select Others.

B. Tuner Select

Select a tuner for channel searching from the selected satellite.

C. Connection Type

If two tuners share one LNB (page 55) select Loop Through. If a service is
being recorded, the other tuner can receive only the signal of the same band
and polarity as being recorded in this configuration.
If the tuners are connected to separated LNBs (or Twin LNB), select
Separated. There is no restriction as in the Loop Through configuration.

D. LNB Frequency

Select the L.O. Frequency set to antenna.
The LNB Frequency of 5150, 9750, 10600, 10750, 11475 MHz or Universal
can be selected by using the and buttons.
NOTE. If the Universal LNB is selected, both 9750 and 10600 MHz are
supported at the same time, and therefor the 22 KHz tone setting is not
required.

E. LNB Power

Select LNB power “ON” for internal and “OFF” for external.

F. 22 KHz

If you are using a 22 KHz tone switch box, make 22 KHz tone switch enable
or disable to select LNB or antenna.

G. 12 V

Use it if the switch box is controlled by 12 V DC.

H. DiSEqC 1.0

The DVR is designed to be DiSEqC 1.0 compatible. This allows multiple
antenna to be connected to the DVR at the same time. If you are using two
or more fixed antennas or LNBs, then it is recommended to use a DiSEqC

1.0 switch.

Select from 1 of DiSEqC to 4 of DiSEqC, Mini A, Mini B or Disable according
to the option or the configuration of DiSEqC switch box or antenna.

I. Channel search

To go to Channel Search menu directly from LNB Setting menu, press
button at this item.

VI. Installation

VI-2. Channel Search
A. Satellite Name

Press the button to display the Satellite List Box. The Satellite name
list is put in alphabetical order. Select one of the preprogrammed satellites
that correspond to the value of the antenna. If the desired satellite name is
not in the list, then select Others.

B. Search Mode

There are 4 search modes. Auto, Manual, Advanced and SMATV. The Auto
mode enables to search using the information the DVR has. On the other
hand, there will be a need to know in advance the frequencies and the
symbol rates before using the Manual mode. On the Advanced mode, enter
the Audio PID, Video PID or the PCR PID. The SMATV mode is used to special
purpose an satellite master antenna TV.

C. Frequency

Enter the Transponder Frequency by using the numeric button on your RCU.

D. Symbol Rate

Enter the Transponder Symbol Rate by using the numeric buttons on your RCU.

E. Polarization

Choose the type of polarization, either the Horizontal or the Vertical.

F. Network Search

This Network Search item can be used if the Search mode is set to the Manual
or Auto mode. If the Network Search item is set to ON and the NIT (Network
Information Table) is available, the Transponder information can be found.

G. PID

Press button to enter Video, Audio and PCR PID.
Video PID – Insert the Video PID by using the numeric buttons on your RCU.
Audio PID – Insert The Audio PID by using the numeric buttons on your RCU.
PCR PID – Insert the PCR PID by using the numeric buttons on your RCU.
SAVE – To ensure the above Video, Audio and PCR PID change, press
button at this item.

H. FTA/Scrambled

Choose your favorite channels among FTA only, CAS only and FTA+CAS.

I. Tuner Select

Select a tuner for channel searching from the selected satellite.

J. Start Search

Searches for digital channel after the configuration of the LNB is over. To stop
the searching process an the way, press either the button or the
button. This menu will be shown as long as the DVR is searching for chan­nels. All channels found will be listed in two collumns on the screen; with TV
channels in one collumn and Radio channels in the other. Please note that
the search procedure may take a few minutes. When the search procedure
is completed, the screen will show how many TV and Radio channels have
been found. Press button to save the channels.

K. LNB Setting

To go to LNB Setting menu directly from Channel Search menu, press
button at this item.

VI-3. Services Copy

In this menu, you can copy the existing channels between Tuner 1 and Tuner 2.

A. Tuner 1 to Tuner 2: Copy the service list of Tuner 1 to that of Tuner 2.
B. Tuner 2 to Tuner 1: Copy the service list of Tuner 2 to that of Tuner 1.
C. All: Add the service lists of Tuner 1 and Tuner 2 and save it to service list

of Tuner 1 and that of Tuner 2.

VI-4. Motorized DiSEqC 1.2

If you have DiSEqC 1.2 motorized system, then you can use the DiSEqC 1.2 functions.

• Satellite Name: Select a satellite name that will be used to identify a
motor position.

• Tuner Select: Select a tuner that is connected with DiSEqC 1.2 system.

• Transponder: Select the transponder to catch the strong signal. Select
the TP from TP list box to get the strong signal.

• LNB Setting: Please refer to LNB setting of this chapter.

• Motorized DiSEqC 1.2: Select Enable or Disable. If you are using
DiSEqC 1.2 antenna, set to Enable.

• DiSEqC Command Mode: Change the current mode between User and
Installer modes.

User: This mode is used to fine-tune the position of the motor for better reception.
Installer: This mode is used to search for the position of a satellite manually.

• Movement:

In case of User mode, the movement is adjustable by fine-tuning.
In case of Installer mode, the movement is adjustable by East, West going command.

• Motor Control

Goto: Move the motor to the stored position of the selected satellite.
Store: Store the current position of the motor for the selected satellite.

* The followings are available only at the Installer mode.

Recalculate: Recalculate the position of the Stab Rotor motor.
Goto Ref: Go to reference.
Limit E, Limit W: Set the limits of East and West position.
Limit Off: Remove the limitation.
Reset: Reset all the stored position of the motor relative to the “0” position

• Channel Search

After saving the DiSEqC configuration at the highest signal quality, press OK
button to start channel searching of the selected satellite.

VI-5. USALS Setting

USALS is very convenient motorized DiSEqC system that supports DiSEqC 1.3
command and also can get the satellite position automatically if you know
your geographical location. Basically, the listed satellites have its Longitude
and therefore the angle of the satellite can be calculated without problem.
If you have USALS motorized system, then you can use the USALS as followings.

• Tuner Select: Select a tuner that is connected with USALS system.

• Motorized DiSEqC 1.3: Select Enable or Disable. If you are using
DiSEqC1.3 switch, set to Enable.

•

Satellite Name: Select a satellite that will be used to identify a motor system.

• Satellite Angle: It is the longitude of the selected satellite and it can be
set automatically in case of selecting a satellite name. You can use
numeric keys of RCU to enter the angle. East or West will be selected by

• My Longitude: It means the longitude of your location. You can select the

• My Latitude: It means the latitude of your location. You can select the

• Goto the position: After setting the Longitude, Latitude and the longitude
of the selected satellite, this menu is used when you want to move the
desired direction (position) of the dish saved before. Its moving limit is ±65°.

VI-6. SAT/TP edit
A.Satellite Name

By pressing button, you can see the listed satellite names. Then,
using buttons, you can select satellite.

B.Frequency

By pressing button, you can see the all frequencies of transponder of
a satellite, and also you can select a frequency. Or, by pressing buttons you
can select and view a frequency one by one.

C. Symbol Rate

You can see the symbol rate of the specified satellite on the right side of the menu.

D.Polarization

You can select the polarization from Horizontal and Vertical.

E. SAT Name Edit

You can change the name of the satellite by this menu.
Press button to display a keyboard. There are several items such as
Other, Save and Space in the keyboard. By selecting Other item, you can see
a new alphabet character set. The Space item means a space between two
characters. And the Save item is used to confirm the new name of the satellite.

F. Add New TP

In case of new transponder information is added by broadcaster, you can add
new TP(transponder) information and enjoy new services. Before adding new
TP information, you should know the frequency, symbol rate and polarization types.
After adding new information, you should confirm the new information by
pressing button at OK item.

G.Delete TP

By selecting this item, you can delete the selected TO (transponder) information.

H.Add Satellite

Using this menu, you can add new satellite name by keyboard, then it will
be added in the Satellite Name menu.

I. Delete Satellite

By selecting this item, you can delete the selected satellite information.

J. Channel Search

It is used to go to Channel Search menu directly from SAT/Tp Edit menu.

VI-7. Factory Setting

All the stored data can be reset just like it was manufactured. The factory
setting has two steps. The first is to reset the channel data and other system
configurations except Motorized DiSEqC1.2 setting. The second is to reset
the parameters of Motorized DiSEqC 1.2.

VI-8. Transfer Firmware

It is used to transfer DVR firmware to other DVR for upgrading the DVR.
Notes: Please proceed this menu with connecting the DVR of same model
and same specification.

VI-9. Transfer Data to Other IRD

It is used to transfer DVR Data such as service information to other DVR for
upgrading the DVR.

VI-10. Firmware Upgrade

At this menu, you can download the latest DVR software from Satellite.
The TP details are prepared.

You can choose a language of subtitle using sub button on the RCU. If the
broadcaster provides subtitles, you can see subtitle symbol in the Information Box.

If the broadcaster supports teletext, you can see teletext symbol in the Information
Box. There are VBI insertion mode and software emulation mode in teletext. In the
VBI insertion mode, which is always on, you can watch the teletext with your TV
using

the RCU of your TV. To watch teletext with VBI insertion, your TV must support
teletext.
In the software emulation mode, you can watch the teletext even though your TV
does not support teletext. You can watch the teletext using the RCU of DVR.
Press teletext button to watch the teletext with software emulation mode.

Press the button once more or EXIT button to escape from teletext.
In teletext modus there will be several options by using the 4 colour controls:
RED: Back to last page
GREEN: Back to start
YELLOW: Zoom
BLUE: Mix.

You can choose a language of soundtrack by pressing button when a
broadcaster supports various languages of soundtrack.
Also, it is possible to choose a mode among Stereo, Mono, Left and Right using

1. To use Time Shifting function, the Time Shifting option should be enabled.
To find the Time Shifting option menu, follow the steps below.
Main Menu – System Setting – Time Shifting – Enable

2. Press button to display Time Shifting progress bar.

3. To go to the desired playback position, press or button. This function is valid while the Time
Shifting progress bar is displayed.

4. To remove the Time Shifting progress bar at once, press , exit or button.

5. To go to the live video, press stop button.

6. To start Instant Time Shifting, press button. The start position of the playback goes 10 seconds
back per each pressing of chk button.

1. Press button to display Time Shifting progress bar.

2. To go to the desired position, press or button.

3. Press rec button to start recording.

4. The recording will be started from the selected position.

5. Press stop button to stop Time Shifting.

6. Press stop button once more to stop recording.

3. Delayed Recording

A. Record Go to System Setting menu and press OK button at the Timer Setting item. At Timer

Setting, press F1(Red) button to insert a new recording entry. Set the options that you want to record
with by using , button. For detailed information, refer to the explanation of Timer Setting
menu in Menu operations.

B. Checking and modification To check the delayed recording options, go to Timer Setting menu. You

can change the options there.

C. Cancel To cancel the delayed recording, go to Timer Setting menu. Press F2 (Green) button and

confirm with OK button at Cancel item.

4. Recording by EPG

A. Record Press guide button to display EPG. Select a service that you want to record, and press

rec button. Instead of rec button, two times pressing of OK button is valid for
delayed recording.

The Recording mark will be displayed by pressing OK button two times.
For reference, if you press button one time, you can reserve the event, which means switching to the
reserved event automatically at the event time. This button toggles CANCEL successively.

B. Checking and modification Press guide button to display EPG. The reserved services for

delayed recording will be marked with a Recording mark or Reserved Event mark.

C. Cancel Press guide button to display EPG. To cancel a reservation of delayed recording, select

the service you want to cancel and press rec button again. Instead of rec button, OK

button is valid by toggling. The Recording mark will disappear.

To add a bookmark, press BOOKMARK button at the position you want to add it. You can make
the bookmark at maximum 64 positions.

2. Go to a bookmark

Press GO TO BOOKMARK button to jump to the next bookmark. Then, the DVR plays from the
book marked position.

To remove a bookmark, you have to display the progress bar by pressing ply button. Select the

1. Select the live picture you want to record. Descramble the service with a proper CAM and smart card.
The live service should be decoded well with the proper CAM and smart card.

2. Start recording according to the recording procedure.

3. During recording, don’t change the channel neither try the time shifting function.

Caution: If there is any disturbance such as channel changing or time shifting during recording, the recor­ded file will be changed to the scrambled format from this position. If the recording time is less than about
1 minute, the recorded file will not be saved.

During recording, Time Shifting is possible. But only in the recorded channel.

For the tuner being recorded with, all the channels in the same Channel can be selected.
For the other tuner, all the scanned channels can be selected.

The repeated Playback mode works only in playback mode. It does not work in time shifting mode. There
are two repeated Playback modes.

1. Repeating the whole selected service.
a. Start playback a recorded service.

b. Press button without the progress bar to repeat the whole selected service.
c. Press button once more to cancel the repeating playback.

2. Repeating the selected region.
a. Start playback a recorded service.
b. Press button to display Playback progress bar.

c. To specify one end of region, press the button with the progress bar.
d. Move the cursor by FWD pressing or revs button.

22 kHz pulse:

This pulse, generated by the receiver, is used to control switches or to switch Universal LNBs to the digital
range.

Analogue programmes:

In comparison with digital signals, analogue signals require a considerably greater quantity of information.
With the constantly increasing range of programmes, the bandwidths available would no longer suffice in
the long term. For this reason, analogue technology is gradually being replaced by digital transmissions.
However, analogue transmission will still have a “right to exist” for a number of years.

Antenna cable:

The antenna cable sends the signals arriving from the LNB to the receiving part of the satellite receiver. In
the reverse direction, the receiver sends switching signals and voltages via the antenna cable to the recei­ving system (switch, LNB…). As signal losses are considerably greater in SAT systems and the switching
signals are very small, only high quality, low-attenuation antenna cables should be used. The cable paths
should be as short as possible. The F-plug, the shielding braid and the aluminium foil form the negative
pole and must not touch the internal conductor (positive pole).

AV operation:

AV means Audio/Video. The connection of several devices (TV, SAT receiver, video recorder…) is generally
performed with a scart cable. This connection provides the best picture and sound quality and does not
normally require any additional settings. Satellite receiver and video recorder “register” via a switching
voltage at the scart input of the TV device (or video recorder/digital receiver). If this switching does not
occur, the SCART input must be manually activated via the remote control of the (TV or video) unit (e.g. AV
or 0 button).

Bouquet:

Bouquet is a French expression meaning “A bunch of flowers” in English. Bouquets are bundled digital
programme packets (e.g., ARD Digital), consisting of TV and radio programmes offered by a transmitter.

DiSEqC:

The DiSEqC technology was developed by Eutelsat to create an additional switching criterion (in addition
to the 22 kHz pulse) and to enable the reception of several satellite positions. From Version DiSEqc 1.2,
this technology also permits control of antenna rotors via the antenna cable.

Decoders:

Decoders are required to decode encoded programmes (“Pay TV”). Decoding incurs a monthly/annual
contribution, depending on the programme provider and range. There are different encoding systems and
video standards.

Digital reception:

To receive digital programmes you need a digital SAT receiver and a Universal LNB. Digital programmes
are usually provided encoded. In order to decode them, a “chip card” is inserted into a card drive.
Attention: Not all digital receivers are equipped or can be retrofitted with a (suitable) card drive!

Transfer switch:

Transfer switches (sometimes integrated into multi-switches) are required to fan-in SAT and terrestrial
signals. These must be separated again by “reversed” transfer switches or SAT connection boxes.

Reception frequency:

As with VHF reception, each satellite programme has a reception frequency. In contrast to tuning a radio
transmitter, further settings are necessary (polarisation, DiSEqC/22kHz/LO frequency)!
If e.g. the LO frequency no longer agrees with the connected LNB, the transmitter cannot be received!

FEC:

FORWARD ERROR CORRECTION: An error correction system for the transmission path.

High Band:

Frequency range of 11.7-12.75 GHz. Used by satellite systems for broadcasting digital programmes
(see 22 kHz).

Ku Band:

Transmission range of satellites 10.7-12.75 GHz (Low and High Band).

LNB/LNC:

Low Noise Block/Converter. This is located in the focal point of the satellite antenna (exception:
“Multifeed”), and collects and amplifies the signals. As the received signals are too high frequency for
switching via the antenna cable, they must be reduced by means of an “oscillator” (see LO frequency).
The LNB is supplied with voltage by the satellite receiver via the antenna cable and receives the
necessary control commands (horizontal or vertical reception, High or Low Band).

Low Band:

Frequency range of 10.7-11.7 GHz. Used by the Astra satellite system for broadcasting analogue
programmes, amongst other things (see 22 kHz).

LO frequency/oscillator:

LNBs have an oscillator with a fixed LO frequency for Low Band (9.750 GHz), while Universal LNBs have
an additional oscillator for High Band (10.660 GHz). These values are already preset for LNB 1 to LNB 4
and should only be changed if you are using an older LNB type and the LO frequency of your LNB is
known.

Multifeed:

An antenna on which two or more LNBs are mounted, which can receive different satellites.

Multi-switches:

Multi-switches are used in SAT distribution systems (from 3 subscribers/receivers). Multi-switches have at
least 2 LNB connections for 1 double LNB (horizontal 18 V and vertical 13 V, possibly terr. input). In
digitally compatible or Multifeed systems, at least 4 LNB inputs are required: horizontal 18 V, vertical 13 V,
horizontal 18 V + 22 kHz and vertical 13 V + 22 kHz. In digital systems (for one SAT position) a Quattro
LNB is connected to these connections, in Multifeed systems two double LNBs. Multi-switches are
available for 4 and 8 subscribers. With a further multi-switch, up to 16 subscribers could be connected.

NIT:

Network Information Table: Information about reception data sometimes broadcast by programme
organisers. Serves for automatically finding all programmes broadcast by the organiser.

Polarisation (horizontal/vertical switching):

The signals coming from the satellite are broadcast in two levels. As a result, the number of receivable
programmes is practically doubled. Satellite receivers are equipped with a so-called horizontal/vertical
switching to enable selection of the two polarisation levels in the LNB. For this purpose, the two voltages
are 14 volt for vertical and 18 volt for horizontal.

Quad LNB:

For direct connection of 4 receivers. The multi-switch is already integrated.

Quattro LNB:

For digital distribution systems. LNB with four outputs for horizontal, vertical, High and Low Band.
Operation is only possible with 5/4 multi-switches.

Noise figure:

Given in dB: Specifies the quality of the amplifier used in an LNB. The smaller the value, the better the
LNB.

Satellite:

E.g. ASTRA or EUTELSAT system: The satellites are located in a geostationary orbit at a vertical height of
approx. 36,000 km above the equator.

Satellite position and illumination zones (footprints):

Most satellites are located in a geostationary orbit 36,000 km above the equator. Viewed from Europe,
these satellites are located southwards. The satellites “illuminate” different regions on the earth, similarly
to the shine from a flashlight. In the centre of this illumination zone, smaller antennae are sufficient, while
at the edges larger antennae must be installed. Reception is not possible outside these zones. Some pro­grammes are only intended for reception in a particular country, but can be received without problem in
neighbouring countries. Bad weather conditions (snow, rain) impair reception. This impairment can be
reduced with precise antenna alignment or by using a larger antenna.

SCART:

21-pin plug standard for bidirectional image and sound transmission. Switching voltages and data can
also be transmitted. 10-pin scart cables are sufficient for a satellite receiver or VHS video recorder. If a
decoder or Super-VHS video recorder is used, 21-pin scart cables must be used! There are 3 common
standards, which must be set on the video recorder or television so that the picture signal of the SAT
receiver can be transmitted faultlessly: FBAS (setting on TV/video e.g. “C-Video”) for SAT receiver,
standard video recorder (e.g. VHS or Video8) S-VHS (“Y/C” or “S-Video”) for Super VHS or Hi8 video
equipment, sometimes also for digital SAT receivers. RGB (“RGB” is used e.g. for laser disk players,
decoders or large-screen projectors).

Switching voltage:

Switching voltages switch a connected device to a particular status (e.g. AV mode) via the scart cable.
Switched on satellite receivers and video recorders in playback mode usually “force” the television to
switch to AV mode. Not all TV and video devices recognise this switching voltage, and must be switched
over manually if necessary.

Symbol rate:

Data speed of the signal.

Terrestrial:

Terrestrial programmes are transmitted from and received on earth (lat. “Terra”). This includes, for
example, TV programmes in the UHF and VHF range (including cable TV!) and VHF radio transmitters.
Terrestrial antennae can be connected to the SAT system via a so-called transfer switch or multi-switch
with terrestrial input. Terrestrial transmitters and SAT signals can thus be transmitted via a shared antenna
cable and then be divided up again using a SAT connection box (SAT/TV/Radio).The introduction of
terrestrial programmes is recommended, because:

1. Not all TV and radio programmes (e.g. regional transmitters) are transmitted via satellite;

2. Terrestrial programmes can be recorded independently of SAT-TV;

3. They can still be used in the event of failure of the SAT system (e.g. antenna displaced by storm).

Transponder:

Transmission unit on the satellite: In the digital range, the parameters are described by specifying
frequencies and symbol rates.

Universal LNB:

Universal LNBs enable the reception of the entire lower (Low Band) and upper frequency range (High
Band). Universal LNBs are mainly required for the reception of digital programmes. Standard types:
Universal Single LNB (max. 1 subscriber), Universal Twin LNB (max. 2 subscribers) and Universal Quattro
LNB for distribution systems.

Distribution or multi-subscriber systems:

The basis for constructing a distribution system (2 - 16 subscribers) are double or twin LNBs (2 outputs),
or Quattro LNBs (4 outputs) in digitally compatible systems. The connections of the LNBs are connected to
so-called multi-switches (e.g. 4- or 8-way). The outputs of the multi-switches are run directly (“radially”)
to each subscriber. Additional terrestrial programmes (local TV and radio transmitters) can be introduced.
