3. Safety Instructions
Please read this safety information thoroughly before commissioning the device! Prolonged absence: In the event of prolonged absence or thunderstorms, remove the mains plug of the device from the wall socket. Also disconnect the antenna connections to avoid storm damage.
Cleaning: Remove the mains plug before cleaning the device. Use a dry or damp cloth and make sure that no
moisture penetrates the device! Objects in the device: Make sure that no objects can enter the ventilation slots. There is risk of death through electric shock! Repair: Repairs must be performed by qualified experts. In the event of improper intervention by a third party, the warranty will be voided and the safety of the device can no longer be guaranteed! Never open the housing of the device yourself: Even when disconnected from the mains, there is an acute risk of death through electric shock. Internal components can be damaged if touched. Place of installation: Place the device on a straight and even surface. To protect the surface from being discoloured as a result of the natural heat generated by the device, place the device on a suitable underlay. Adequate ventilation: The ventilation slots on the device must never be covered. Ensure that the device has a clearance of at least 10 cm at the sides and top, and that the heat can be dissipated upwards unimpeded. External influences: Never expose the device to moisture (e.g. condensation or splash water) or direct sunlight. Do not place the device in the vicinity of heat sources, such as e.g. heaters or devices that heat up. Mains voltage: Use the equipment with the voltage specified on the case only! Do not plug the equipment into the mains until all connection and installation work has been completed. Earthing: Antenna systems must always be earthed, paying heed to the pertinent local and VDE regulations.

Selecting the antenna location.
Viewed from Europe, all TV satellites are located in the south, therefore you must select the installation location so that the antenna points southwards. The satellite systems with the largest, freely receivable programme ranges are ASTRA
®
(19.2° east) and HOTBIRD (13° east). Viewed from Central Europe, these satellite positions are located just
a few degrees east of the exact south direction.

When selecting the installation location, you must ensure that the antenna is not covered by obstacles, such as e.g. bushes, trees, walls or roof overhangs. Installation beneath the roof is not possible! The antenna should be installed on a house wall protected from the wind, if possible.
The necessary wall mounting is available as an accessory and is not part of this system. If mounting on the roof, the antenna should be fixed as low as possible on a mast.
The local VDE regulations, which prescribe potential and lightning protection regulations, must be observed.
Alignment with a satellite.
Leave the screws loose on the mast bracket until you have set the final position! After fixing the antenna at its location, you should have it point southwards with the LNB in front.
The antenna height is set using the scale on the mounting plate. To set the height, bend the antenna up and down carefully, until the desired number of degrees is set.
The specified values can naturally only apply for vertically mounted masts or wall brackets.
When setting the angle, do not pull on the LNB mounting arm (risk of breaking!).

For precise alignment of the antenna, the complete cabling must now be connected.
The television and the receiver should be located in the immediate vicinity of the antenna.
It is almost impossible to align the reception system by “shouting” e.g. from a distant television. A SAT finder (art. no. 37351) or the signal strength indicator on a digital receiver is ideal for aligning the antenna.
Leave the equipment disconnected from the mains supply until cabling is complete! Connect the antenna cable to the LNB. Carefully introduce the copper-coloured internal conductor of the cable into the LNB socket. Place the thread of the plug directly onto the socket and screw the plug as tightly as you can by hand. Fix the other end of the cable to the jack on the satellite receiver in the same way (LNB IN). With a scart cable, connect the scart socket of the receiver (TV) to the scart socket of your television. Your cabling now looks like this:

Please insert the provided batteries into the remote control.
Now connect your television and the receiver to the mains. Press the Stand By button on the receiver or on the remote control. It may be necessary to switch your television into so-called A/V mode. You can do this with the remote control on your television. The procedure is different for each television unit. The relevant button could be marked 0, AV or EXT. Please refer to the instructions for your television.

You must now move the preset antenna in millimetre steps, with the screws only hand-tight. Please note that there must not be any obstacles between antenna and reception direction, and that you must not stand in front of the antenna area. When you have mounted the antenna precisely southwards, as described above, and have set a height angle as specified in the table, turn the antenna slowly to the left, i.e. to the east. (If the antenna is being installed in Eastern Europe, turn it slowly to the west).
When moving the antenna, observe the screen or any signal indications provided (e.g. Sat finder/Digital receiver).
When a signal/TV picture appears, switch between a few programmes on the receiver to check whether the antenna is aligned to the correct satellite. When the signal quality has reached its maximum, you should also
move the height angle up and down slightly, in the smallest steps, to further optimise the quality. If you do not obtain any reaction or only a weak signal level, you should alter the height angle by a few millimetres up or down and start the satellite search again by swivelling to the side.
When you have optimally set the antenna, tighten the screws on the antenna. Observe the screen at the same time, as sometimes the antenna is moved slightly during fixing and the signal strength decreases again.
Fitting an F-plug, if you need to shorten your cable
IMPORTANT: Please proceed with great caution when fitting the F-plug. Failure to comply with the following instruc­tions could cause malfunctions or destruction of the SAT receiver!! – Please use only continuous antenna cables.
• Strip the cable for a length of 8mm as far as the internal conductor (with a sharp knife).
• Remove the protruding wires of the shielding braid.
• Remove 10mm of the plastic casing until the shielding braid is bared.
• Make sure that no wires of the shielding braid can touch the internal conductor.
• Carefully screw the F-plug onto the cable, until the internal conductor terminates flush with the front edge of the F-plug. The shielding braid is now connected to the F-plug.
• Check the F-plug for short circuits. Look into the F-plug from the front; the internal conductor must be located on its own in the centre and must not be touched by any wires of the shielding braid!

6. Remote control unit (RCU)
1. POWER button Switches the device on or into standby.
2. Mute button Mutes or activates the sound.
3. UHF button OPTIONAL – no function.
4. 4:3/16:9 button Switches between 4:3 format and 16:9 format.
5. Number buttons (0 - 9) Use to select the TV or radio channel and
individual menu options.
6. RECALL button Returns to the last selected programme position.
7. INFO button Switches the info box for programme information
either on or off.
8. EPG button Displays the EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) if this
service is available.
9. TV/Radio button Use to select between TV and radio reception.
10. MENU button Displays the screen menu or returns to the previous
menu from a submenu.
11. SOUND button Use to select the audio mode
(stereo/mono/left/right or digital sound).
12. V+/V- buttons Sets the volume (in some menus the scrolling
function).
13. PR+/PR- buttons Use to select the next/previous programme
position. Use to select submenus in the main menu.
14. OK button Displays the channel list or selects menu items.
15. FAV button Displays the favourite list.
16. EXIT button Use to exit the menu or info box.
17. TELETEXT button Enables teletext reception of the selected
channel (for TV without teletext) and subtitles.
18. Button Fast rewind or reverse search during delayed
recording or playback.
19. Button Playback at normal speed without slow-motion.
20. Button Fast forward or forward search during delayed
recording or playback.
21. Stop button Stops recording or playback.
22. Recording button Starts immediate recording.
23. Button Pause and time-shift recording.
24. SAT button Switches between various SAT positions.
25. TV/AV Connects the VCR signal to a TV.
26. POSITION Use to control a DiSEqC-rotor.
27. PAGE Use to leaf page-for-page through programme lists.

While inserting the cells please ensure that the polarity is right! The polarity is denoted in the cell area. Cells: 2 cells, size AAA, UM-4, consumed micro or R03 cells constitute special waste – please dispose them properly! Reach, app. 6 m.

Connection to the SAT antenna
The DiSEqC technology allows a large number of connection variants e.g.:
• A permanently aligned SAT antenna
• Two permanently aligned SAT antennae or Multifeed antennae with DiSEqC 2-way switch (art. no. 3932)
• 4 permanently aligned SAT antennae with a DiSEqC 4-way switch (art. no. 3934)
• 2 permanently aligned Multifeed antennae with DiSEqC 4-way switch (art. no. 3934)
• A rotating DiSEqC 1.2 rotor system, combined with several permanently aligned antennae
TIP: One or more Digital LNBs (reception converters) are required to receive satellite programmes. The following technical data should be stated on the adhesive label of the LNB: 10.6 GHz (or 10,600MHz) and 9.75 GHz (or 9,750MHz) for the so-called oscillator frequencies. No other values or data are relevant, and the receiver is ready for operation after connection. Proceed with the utmost caution when preparing the antenna cable! As voltages and switching signals are transpor­ted via the antenna cable, you must make sure that the shielding braid and the aluminium foil have good contact
with the F-plug and that no short-circuit occurs in the internal conductor of the cable! After screwing on the F-plug, check that the internal conductor is not being touched by any of the wires of the shielding braid.
A signal strength indicator is provided for aligning the antenna. Slowly swivel the antenna southwards, observing the signal display on the screen. If you cannot find a signal, change the inclination of the antenna a little. When aligning for the first time, it is advisable to directly connect the antenna and receiver using the shortest possible antenna cable, in order to exclude potential error sources

7. Connections
Connecting to the TV unit
You use a SCART cable for connecting to the TV set. If you have a TV with a 16:9 screen, for example, you can adjust the settings to match your TV set in the receiver's screen menu. The default screen format is 4:3. If your TV set does not have a Scart socket, use an appropriate adapter or use the 3 cinch outputs. xxxx x x xx xxx xxx
Connecting to a video recorder
Connect the video recorder and the satellite receiver using a Scart cable. By means of the Scart socket it is possible to record SAT programmes and to loop the playback of video cassettes through to the TV Scart socket. If your video recorder does not have a Scart socket, use an appropriate adapter or use the 3 cinch outputs
Connecting to a stereo system
Analogue: The sound of the TV and radio programmes can be reproduced via your stereo system. Connect the two audio cinch sockets to a free input of your hi-fi system (e.g. AUX, Line IN, CD or Tuner). Inputs with the designation “Phono” are not suitable!
Digital: Connect the receiver and your AC3/surround system to the coaxial digital output of the SAT receiver.

8. On-Screen Display Menu (OSD)
A preset ASTRA satellite TV channel will appear after switching on the DVR once installation has been completed and the DVR 7500 has been connected to all the devices. In order to carry out changes to the presettings, press MENU on the remote control to open the main menu:
The main menu displays the following selection options:
- Programme Manager
- Electronic Programme Guide (EPG)
- Timer
- Installation
- Accessories
- Common Interface
- Video Manager
Press OK to activate the desired menu item or to open a further submenu.
Submenus are concealed behind the selection options marked with a “+”. These can be shown and re-concealed by pressing OK. Press PR- and PR+ to select any visible menu item and activate via OK.
At the bottom of all the menus there is an overview of all the buttons via which functions can be carried out in the current menu. In the displayed graphic it is possible to carry out the functions “process” and “sort” via the green and yellow button respectively.
Press EXIT to exit a displayed menu or to return from a submenu to a higher order menu or to the television picture. Changes to the settings are usually automatically accepted after exiting the menu. In some cases a safety query, e.g. “Do you really wish to change the start channel?”, appears. Use PR to select the desired option “OK” or “Cancel”. The option marked yellow is carried out via OK.

Antenna Configuration
Pay attention to the lower part of the on-screen image during antenna selection. Press the coloured buttons to obtain the following possibilities: Red: Ant. help, for calculating the elevation angle and angle of direction for fixed
satellite antennas Green: DiSEqC 1.2-rotor or fixed satellite antenna Yellow: For USALS rotors, for automatic calculation of each SAT position Blue: Opens the programme search menu
9.1 Antenna Configuration DiSEqC 1.2 (Rotor Control)
If you do not have a DiSEqC 1.2-rotor, please proceed to the next section and read “Fixed Antenna Configuration” on the next page. When setting the DiSEqC-rotor, press the green button to obtain the menu on the left.
1) Antenna: Carry out up to 16 different antenna configurations in connection with
various SAT change-over switches.
2) Satellite: Select the satellite to be received.
3) LNB: Digital LNBs are now a standard feature. If you are using an older or exotic
LNB, enter the changes manually. Only change the values if you are familiar with the LNB technical data!
4) LNB info: Display of LNB frequencies (lower and upper oscillator frequency of
the LNB). The values for commercially available Digital LNBs are 9750 (oscfreq. LNB1) and 10600 (oscfreq. LNB2). Only change these values if the assembly instructions for the satellite system clearly demand it!
5) SAT switch 0/12 volt and 22 kHz: Here it is possible to set which change-over
switch and switching pulse is to be used to receive various satellites. 0/12 volt and 22 kHz change-over switches no longer figure in digital reception systems! To prevent malfunctioning, set the settings for both types of change-over switch to “No”.
6) SAT switch DiSEqC: Use a 2-way or 4-way DiSEqC switch, set here via which
input of the DiSEqC switch you wish to receive the satellite. The inputs of the DiSEqC change-over switch are marked accordingly (1, 2, 3, 4 or A, B ...).
7) C/Ku-band: To prevent malfunctioning, leave the “No” setting. The C-band is
mainly received in the Middle East or Russia.

8) East/West limits: Use this function to fix the eastern and western swivel range
of the rotatable DiSEqC 1.2 or USALS antenna. This prevents the antenna being damaged by obstacles (e.g. walls, branches) when rotating . Press the E to rotate the antenna and confirm the position via OK. A query subsequently appears which should be answered with either “OK” or “Cancel”.
Repeat the process to fix the western limit by holding down the W button until the western position of the antenna has been reached. Confirm the subsequent query via OK.
9) Cancel limits: Select the option “Delete Limits” and press OK in order to cancel
the stored east and west limits.
Caution: The DiSEqC-rotor is now able to move unhindered! The antenna could be damaged by obstacles such as railings, branches or walls! Once all the changes have been carried out, press Exit and confirm the safety query via OK; this ensures that all the changes become effective.
9.1 Antenna Configuration - Fixed
To set a fixed antenna press, if necessary, the green button to obtain the menu on the left. The options for the DiSEqC-rotor should no longer be displayed.
1) Antenna: Carry out up to 16 different antenna configurations in connection with
various SAT change-over switches.
2) Satellite: Select the satellite to be received.
3) LNB: Digital LNBs are now a standard feature. If you are using an older or exotic
LNB, enter the changes manually. Only change the values if you are familiar with the LNB technical data!
4) LNB info: Display of LNB frequencies (lower and upper oscillator frequency of
the LNB). The values for commercially available Digital LNBs are 9750 (oscfreq. LNB1) and 10600 (oscfreq. LNB2). Only change these values if the assembly instructions for the satellite system clearly demand it!
5) SAT switch 0/12 volt and 22 kHz: Here it is possible to set which change-over
switch and switching pulse is to be used to receive various satellites. 0/12 volt and 22 kHz change-over switches no longer figure in digital reception systems! To prevent malfunctioning, set the settings for both types of change-over switch to “No”.

6) SAT switch DiSEqC: Use a 2-way or 4-way DiSEqC switch, set here via which
input of the DiSEqC switch you wish to receive the satellite. The inputs of the DiSEqC change-over switch are marked accordingly (1, 2, 3, 4 or A, B ...).
7) C/Ku-band: To prevent malfunctioning, leave the “No” setting. The C-band is
mainly received in the Middle East or Russia. Once all the changes have been carried out, press Exit. All the changes are accepted when exiting the menu.
9.2 Channel Search
1) Antenna: Select one of the 16 antenna configurations.
2) Satellite: When selecting the desired satellite, press the volume buttons or OK to
display a selection list. There is information about the selected satellite on the
right hand side of the OSD.
3) Position (only for antenna configuration DiSEqC 1.2): Once the satellite has been
selected, select “Position”. Hold down E or W until satellite reception is
displayed by both bars (signal strength and quality). If the satellite has been
detected, the bar colour changes to yellow. The height of the value depends on
the reception strength of the actual satellite being searched in the respective
region and can vary greatly.
IMPORTANT:
Please always observe the assembly instructions of the DiSEqC-rotor! Prior to searching for the satellite positions, the antenna and rotor's elevation angle and angle of direction have to be placed in a specified basic position. Satellites located further to the east or west will not be received if assembly has not been carried out correctly!
4) Transponder: Here it is possible to select a stored transponder of the selected
satellite. This is necessary if you only wish to search for a specific transponder
or if a transponder is no longer active.
EDIT MODE: If you wish to change the pre-programmed values of a transponder such as frequency, symbol rate, polarisation, 22 kHz etc., press the yellow button to display the command box. Now press OK to activate the change mode. It is now possible to select and change all the available selection options via the control buttons.
It is also possible to delete the displayed transponder (“Delete TP”) and to change the name of the satellite (“Rename Sat”).

When manually changing or adding a transponder, the frequency (5-digit in MHz), the polarisation horizontal or vertical (H/V) and the symbol rate (SR, usually 5-digit 27500 or 20000) have to be known. Obtain these values from satellite operators or from TV and specialist magazines.
Start search: Go to “Search this Sat.” to start the search, or press the volume buttons to search for all the available channel packages or just the displayed transponder. The search commences after pressing OK.
Extended programme search: Press the blue button to receive the following additional search options, which can be changed via the volume buttons: Selection: It is possible to select certain satellites from an overview. Sorting: According to FTA (Free to Air channels first), CAS (coded channels) or in alphabetical order. NIT: Some satellites such as Astra or Hotbird transmit a Network Information Table (NIT). This is an up-to-date and complete channel table which can be read by the receiver. Search for: Satellite or transponder or programme ID selection.
9.3 System Settings
In this menu it is possible to change OSD presettings and to adjust the receiver to its “technical environment” (TV/VCR…). Carry out the selection and changes via the control buttons and OK. For the marking use the control buttons and for OK for a select menu.
OSD Colour: Select a colour for all the screen menu displays. OSD Language: Select a language for all the screen menu displays.
Audio Language: Here it is possible to set a sequence of certain languages which
should be heard for multi-lingual programmes. Subtitle Language: Here it is possible to set a sequence of certain languages which should be displayed as subtitles for multi-lingual programmes. LNB Voltage: The LNB supply voltage should always be switched on. This way the receiver supplies the required switching and supply voltages to the LNB, the change-over switch and distributor. The option “LNB Voltage OFF” should only be selected if it is clearly stated in your SAT system instructions! Screen Format: Set the screen format of your TV here. The width-to-height ratios

Video Output: For setting the output signal at the Scart sockets. FBAS (also: composite) is compatible with all normal TV sets and VCRs, RGB is of higher quality, but is not yet supported by every TV set. Type of TV: The colour standard in Europe is - apart from a few exceptions - PAL. NTSC is used in the USA and Japan.
Visible Display: Setting of the display period for channel information. Start Channel: Press OK to open a channel list. Select the channel which should
always appear first after switching on the receiver. In the presetting the last viewed channel always appears first after switching on the receiver.
9.4 Parental Control/Channel Lock
Channels which are not suitable for minors can be password-protected. It is also possible to protect the installation menu and your personal settings against unauthorised access. Parental control consists of two parts: Specific channel blocking and specific menu blocking, thus preventing access to undesired images. In the parental control menu it is possible to set basic requirements, e.g. the password, temporal (time and date) releases and blocking areas.
Changing the Password:
1) Enter the current password
2) Set “Parental Control” to ON
3) Enter a new password
4) Re-enter the new password to confirm the change Note: The factory-set password is 0000. Caution: Make a note of the new password and keep it in a safe place.
Using Parental Control:
5) Once the parental control function has been activated, open the channel
manager menu.
6) Press the green button (“Process”) and select “Lock”.
7) Select the channel to be locked.
8) Press OK. Locking is indicated by a lock symbol.
9) Exit the menu and switch off the receiver.

Temporal Release
If you wish to release channel and installation menu blocking at certain times of the day, it is possible to define a time domain. All the channels as well as menus with the exception of the “Parental Control” menu can be opened during these set periods. Caution: Please note that during these periods changes can also be carried out in the “Channel Manager” menu, i.e. other locks can be changed.
9.5 Factory Setting
It is possible to reset the device to the delivery status. After confirming the device reset, all the settings which have been carried out after initial start-up are deleted.

The most important basic functions and on-screen displays (OSD) are described in detail below. Whilst watching TV or listening to the radio, it is possible to open the respective programme information on screen via INFO. The content and scope of this information is made available by the channel operator.
The following instructions will help you to become familiar with even more useful receiver functions.
Select Channel:
There are several possibilities for channel selection. Use either the CH buttons on the front of the receiver or PR-/PR+ on the remote control to switch channels (upwards/downwards). In addition to the aforesaid functions there is also (for the majority of channels which can be received) a more practical channel-selection function: Whilst watching/listening to a programme, you can open a channel list via OK. This can be closed again by pressing EXIT. Select the desired channel from this list via PR+ and PR- and change to it by pressing OK. Since the channel lists usually contain several hundred channels, it is also possible to use and to quickly leaf through the channel list.
Press INFO to receive detailed information about a channel's reception parameters and the possibility to rename the channel. Press OK to rename a channel.
Use the on-screen keyboard to rename a channel. Keyboard navigation occurs via PR+, PR-, E and W. Press OK to select a letter. In order to save the settings, navigate over “OK” and press the OK button.

It is also possible to select which channel should be shown:
Favourites: Select one of 8 favourite lists (Note: If the favourite lists are empty, no channels are listed!).
Satellite: Only the channels of the selected satellite are listed.
A-Z: Select the first letter of the desired channel.
All: Lists all the stored channels in one list.
Note: Once a channel list has been opened via OK, press FAV to accept the selected channel in the favourite list (or to delete it). See page 23 and 24 for further information.
TV/Radio Mode:
Whilst watching TV, it is possible to change to radio mode by pressing TV/RADIO. Press the button again to return to TV mode.
Channel Jump: Use <-PR to jump back to the previous programme position.
TV/AV Mode: Whilst watching a SAT channel, it is possible to change to the AV mode (VCR) by pressing TV/AV. The image of the device connected to the VCR socket (e.g. VCR or SAT receiver) subsequently appears on the screen. Press the button again to return to the SAT-TV mode. Note: The LED on the front panel displays the current mode.
Channel Information: Information about the current channel appears for 6 seconds after switching channels. This information can be opened or closed at any time by pressing INFO and EXIT respectively.
Pause Function: PAUSE enables you to “freeze” the displayed TV picture. Press this button again to exit this frozen-image and to return to the normal TV picture.

Volume and Audio Settings
1.) Volume:
Use on the remote control to regulate the volume. Note: There are
18 different volume levels. Set the basic volume of your TV set in a way that
you can achieve an ideal control range via the receiver remote control.
2.) Mute:
Press to immediately mute the sound. Press this button again to return to
the previous volume level.
3.) Audio Control:
Press repeatedly to open the 3 possible audio settings “Left”, “Right” and
“Stereo” one after the other. The active setting is displayed in the OSD
(channel information).
4.) Language Selection:
Press repeatedly to open the various TV picture languages one after
the other. The number of languages depends on the number provided by the
channel. This button is functionless if only one language is provided.
Position: If it is necessary to optimise the antenna position, press POSITION . A bar appears on the screen. This bar displays the current reception strength of the signal. Try to improve reception via E or W (DiSEqC 1.2-rotor required!). This button is not active if the DiSEqC function is switched off in the “Antenna Configuration” menu.
SAT: Press SAT to receive an overview of all the previously stored satellites. If several satellites have been stored, select a position and press OK.
The channel list of this satellite subsequently appears. Important when using a DiSEqC 1.2-rotor: It can take several seconds for the selected channel to appear since the rotor has to position the antenna first.

11. Channel Manager
The simple, extensive and easy-to-use channel manager is an outstanding feature of your DVR 7500! The growing number of new satellites and channels requires increased flexibility when sorting interesting and less interesting channels.
Channel Manager
The item “Channel Manager” in the main menu contains two selection possibilities: “TV” or “Radio”. Note: Usage of the radio channel manager is identical to the TV channel manager! The following descriptions refer to the TV channel manager.
On the left hand side there is an overview of all the stored channels. On the right hand side information about the selected channel appears. Press the green button to display the options menu. This contains the following selection possibilities:
- Shift (change channel sequences)
- Lock (lock access to channels)
- Delete channel (delete channels completely)
- Delete TP (delete transponder)
- Delete satellite (delete all channels of a satellite position)
- Delete all (delete all channel lists)
- Rename channel (change channel change)
- Rename FAV (rename favourite list) Select the desired option and press OK.
Four options are available on the bottom line: RED: Favourite 1-8 (see next page) GREEN: Process (see above) YELLOW: Sort (see below) BLUE: Picture off (switches the TV monitor picture off)
Sort Channels If the “TV Channel Manager“ has been opened, press the yellow button. Under the item “Sorting” there are several possibilities to sort the channel list. For example, all the channels are resorted in alphabetical order via “Channel Name”. Sorting criteria overview: Lock: Locked channels are grouped together Coded: Sorting according to coded and FTA channels SAT Name: Sorting in alphabetical order according to satellite name SAT TP: Sorting according to transponder allocation (e.g. TP1 - TP99) Channel Name: Sorting in alphabetical order according to channel names Note: After sorting, the preset sequence can only be reset via the function “Factory Setting”!

Favourite Channels
Favourite lists: Your favourite channels can be accepted in eight different channel lists, thus providing an improved overview. For example, sort all news channels in “Favourite 2” and all sports channels in “Favourite 3”. Note: Press the red button in the channel manager menu repeatedly to open the favourite lists.
Select one of your favourite channels from this channel list and press OK. The symbol subsequently appears next to the selected channel. If you wish to delete this channel from your favourite list, press OK again. Once you have marked all the favourite channels press EXIT to return to the main menu and then press EXIT again to close the main menu. Press FAV on the remote control to open the favourite channels and select one of the eight favourite lists.

It is also possible to rename the eight favourite lists as desired. For example, you could rename the favourite lists 1 to 4 as Dad, Mum, Daughter and Son, and the lists 5 to 8 as Films, Sport, News and Music.
To achieve this, press the green button and select the option “Rename FAV”. Allocate a new name to the respective favourite category via the on-screen keyboard.
Shift Channels Open the TV channel manager menu, press the green button and select “Shift”.
Use this function to shift any channel within the channel list. Firstly, select the channel and then press OK. Shift the channel to a new position via PR- and PR+. Press OK once the new position has been reached.

Lock Channels Open the TV channel manager menu, press the green button and select “Lock”.
Use this function to lock any channel against unauthorised access. Firstly, select the channel to be locked and then press OK. The lock symbol appears next to the channel. Note: The 4-digit code has to be entered to lock or unlock one or several channels. Locked channels, e.g. with images not suitable for minors, can only be watched after the code has been entered (presetting 0000).
Rename Channels Open the TV channel manager menu, press the green button and select “Rename”.
Use this function to allocate a new name to any channel. Firstly, select the channel from the list and then press OK. The channels can be renamed via the on-screen keyboard. The new name appears in the channel list once the channel has been renamed.
TIP: In order to change the name of a channel quickly, the menu can be opened directly: Press - while watching the TV channel - OK and subsequently INFO.
Press OK to open the “Keyboard”.
Delete Channels Open the TV channel manager menu, press the green button and select one of the desired delete options. These functions enable you to delete individual channels or all of the channels.
Mark the channels to be deleted via “OK”. An X symbol appears next to the channels.
Once selection has been completed, press EXIT. Confirm the safety query via OK to completely delete the channel(s).
Check successful deletion in the channel list.

Your receiver is equipped with either a 80 or 160 GB hard drive and is able to record a programme while simultaneously playing a previously recorded one. If you should happen to miss a scene whilst recording a programme, you can return to this scene and watch it without interrupting the current recording process! Afterwards you can carry on watching the current recording.
Time-Shift Mode
The time-shift mode offers a feature impossible with tape deck recording devices (VCR/cassette recorder): Independent and simultaneous recording and playback!
Recording It is possible to immediately record the programme you are watching by pressing REC or PAUSE. REC-PLAY appears on the receiver display.
Recording via REC Press REC to start recording and carry on watching the programme normally whilst recording. The function is identical to the one on normal VCRs.
Recording via PAUSE (Time-Shift) Recording can also be started via PAUSE, but with this function the picture and sound remain “frozen”; comparable to the pause function of a VCR. However, recording proceeds as normal. If you wish to watch the recording press PLAY. Whilst recording it is also possible to use the volume buttons to fast forward and rewind without impairing the recording process!
Stop Recording Press STOP to stop recording. Answer the query about whether the recording should be stored, deleted or continued.
Playback/Slow-Motion Press PLAY to playback a recording. The recorded programme is played at normal speed. If PLAY is pressed again, the speed decreases to slow-motion.

FF, REW (Search) If FF is pressed repeatedly whilst playing the previously recorded programme, the picture can be viewed at x4, x8, x16 and at normal speed. A rewind search can also be started via REW. The speed is displayed at the top left of the screen via >, >>, >>>, >>>> or <, <<, <<<, <<<<.
PAUSE (Single Step) If you wish to watch a scene in individual pictures, press PAUSE repeatedly whilst playing in order to view the individual pictures one after the other.
Playback whilst Recording a Programme If you wish to watch a previously stored recording whilst recording, press OK. An overview of all the previously recorded programmes appears on the screen. Select the desired programme from the list and press OK.
Save and Stop If STOP is pressed in the time-shift mode, a dialogue box appears on the screen which asks whether the programme should be stored or deleted. It is also possible to rename the recording. If you wish to rename the recording, go to the presetting (this is usually the name of the programme) and press OK. A “keyboard” appears on the screen via which the new name can be entered. Finally, select “Yes” in the dialogue box in order to store the programme. The dialogue box is closed and the current programme displayed after answering the query (YES or NO).
Info Bar If INFO is pressed whilst recording or playing, the info bar appears on the screen. This remains on the screen until you press EXIT. The info bar displays, amongst other things, how much hard drive storage is still available for further recordings, total recording times or playback position. If the info bar is on the screen, the playback position can be selected via the volume buttons .

Playback Mode
In playback mode it is possible to play previously recorded programmes, but not possible to record others. Simply press PLAY to switch on the playback mode.
Playback Press PLAY, a list of all the stored recordings appears in the top right hand corner of the screen. Select a recording from the list and press OK. Playback is displayed in the receiver display (“play”).
Slow-Motion The playback speed is reduced if PLAY is pressed again whilst playing.
FF, REW, Pause, Jump If you wish to watch a scene in individual pictures, press PAUSE repeatedly.
If FF is pressed repeatedly whilst playing the previously recorded programme, the picture can be viewed at x4, x8, x16 and at normal speed. A rewind search can also be started via REW. Timer Recording It is possible to record a programme when you are not at home and to watch it at a later date.
Press MENU and select the menu item “Timer” and “Set Timer”.
On the timer page there are all the settings to carry out up to 10 pre-programmings (“Events”). You can also set the timer to switch on the receiver at the start of the programme, but not to start recording. The timer function can be switched on or off under “Activate” (YES/NO).

EPG Recording In addition to the visible and audible picture and sound signals numerous channel operators also transmit further information, e.g. EPG (“Electronic Programme Guide”). The EPG contains all the information required to program a recording.
Press EPG, an overview of all the current and upcoming programmes of the channel operator appears. Select the programme to be recorded. Press REC, a dialogue box appears in which you can change the start and stop time and the name of the programme. The timer is active after confirmation via OK. If the programme is already running, recording is started as soon as you exit the EPG menu.
Simple Recording Overview If - whilst watching SAT TV - PLAY is pressed, a list of all the stored programmes appears.
Video Manager Menu
The video manager menu displays a total overview of all the recorded programmes with additional details and change features (e.g. shift, delete, rename, formatting).
Four functions are available in the bottom part: RED: To playback the recording in the monitor window. Note: Press EXIT to
playback the recording on the whole screen. GREEN: To stop playback in the monitor window. YELLOW: Opens the menu to process the recordings. BLUE: Playback mode “Shuffle”, “Repeat” or “Normal”.
Select “Video Manager” from the maim menu. This menu page contains, amongst other things, information about the storage size and length of the individual recordings, and the free and occupied storage capacity of the hard drive. Press the yellow button. A further screen menu appears from which the following options can be selected:
Shift: The order of the recorded programmes can be changed in this menu. Mark the programmes to be shifted and press OK. Select the new position via the PR- buttons and press OK again.

Lock: The programme cannot be played until the password has been entered (parental control password).
Rename: The displayed name of a recording can be changed via the on-screen keyboard.
Delete: Delete individual recordings. The storage space which is now free can be used for new recordings.
Delete Hard Drive: CAUTION - All recordings are irrevocably deleted!!!
Jump: Use the “Jump” function to skip individual scenes (e.g. commercial breaks) whilst playing. The jumped scenes are not deleted and remain on the hard drive. They can be recovered via the “Jump” function.
Split and Join Recordings: Splitting: Place one mark per recording to split recordings. The first part remains in the recording overview in the same position; the second part is placed at the end of the overview. It is now possible, if necessary, to split the second part and to delete redundant scenes.
Joining: Select the first part from the recording overview (e.g. recording no. 3) and press OK to join recordings. “M1” appears next to the title of the recording. Now select the second part (e.g. recording no. 5) and press OK. Both parts have now been joined together as one recording and been saved in the same position.

13. EPG (Electronic Program Guide)
The EPG is an “Electronic Programme Guide” for TV and radio channels which supply additional information about the respective programme package. For example, it provides the title of the current programme or radio title. An overview also presents trailers of upcoming programmes of the channel operator.
Note: Not all programme packages are transmitted with EPG! Press EPG on the remote control or select EPG from the main menu. The EPG overview subsequently appears on the screen.
In the bottom half of the on-screen image there are four channel names and on the right the programmes with the respective time (time line above). Select a channel and press OK. If no programmes appear (“no data available“), press OK again. The loading process can take up to one minute depending on the amount of information. If no information appears, it is because no EPG is transmitted via this transponder! Select a channel and place the cursor over the programme whose information you wish to view. The colour of the selected channel changes. If the correct channel and programme have been marked, press INFO. All the available information is subsequently displayed on the screen. Press REC to record a programme. If necessary, it is possible to adjust the recording data in the “Recording Control” menu which appears.
Extended EPG: Press - whilst watching a programme - INFO twice, a different EPG presentation appears on the screen: In the upper line it is possible to additionally select a day (if this is supported by the channel operator). Refer to the lower part of the EPG window for further information.

14. Set Timer/Time
There are various ways to program the timer in order to record one or several programmes. Simple operation of the timer is one of the outstanding features of the DVR 7500.
In order to activate automatic switching on and/or off of the receiver, select “YES” and enter the switching on and off time. Note: The receiver displays the times transmitted by the satellite. Always consider the time differences when programming the timer. In order to activate automatic switching on and/or off of the receiver, select “YES” and enter the switching on and off time.
It is also possible to select the desired programme in the 24-hour timer menu.
This timer menu enables extensive settings of up to ten pre-programmings.
Each pre-programming can be set once, daily, weekly, monthly or yearly.
Set Date/Time
In order to set the time and the date open the main menu. The selection “Timer” contains two menus. Select “Set Time/Date”. The local time settings can be carried out in the timer menu which appears. The difference to Central European Time (CET) is set when setting the time zone. The respective cities and regions are listed in the bottom part of the menu in order to help you. Also set the year, month, day and time. Note: If the time is displayed incorrectly, check the setting “summertime”.

15. Appendix Antenna Configuration and Software Update
The millimetre accurate alignment of the antenna on the satellite is the precondition for reception. The help function “Calculate Antenna Setting” is provided to help you align the antenna. The result of the calculations is the exact elevation angle and angle of direction.
Procedure: Open the “Antenna Configuration” menu and press the red button. Select the menu item “Calculate Antenna Setting”.
1. At first, select the desired satellite (e.g. Astra 19.2° east)
2. Enter the degree of longitude of your city (e.g. Hamburg 9.6° east)
3. Enter the degree of latitude of your city (e.g. Hamburg 53.3° north). The values
for the degree of longitude and latitude can be found in every good atlas.
4. Subsequently select “Calculate”. The result is the value for the elevation angle
and angle of direction.
Elevation angle: SAT antennas have a scale behind the reflector (“mirror”) which usually ranges from 20° to 50°. In northern Germany the elevation values are approx. 28°, in southern Germany 35°. Note: The antenna mast has to be absolutely vertical! Angle of direction: The degree graduation can be found on a compass. Software Upgrade In order to add new features or to carry out error corrections, we offer the possibility, if required, to load new software into the receiver via the ASTRA position 19.2° east.
Note: The software is transmitted on a weekly or daily rotation for other Skymaster models. Please refer to our website at www.skymaster.de for further information! After the start of the OTA software update a check is carried out to determine whether a more recent version is being transmitted. Software loading takes several minutes. Do not switch off the receiver during the loading process! Follow the instructions on the screen.
Note: During the process you will be asked whether you wish to retain the receiver settings. “GOOD” appears after the update on the receiver's display. Switch the device off and on again via the power switch at the rear.

In the “Games” menu there are three classic games for your amusement:

Reception of encrypted programmes (Pay-TV)
In order to be able to receive encrypted programmes, you will need a special CAM decoding module for one of the numerous encryption systems and a smart card for a particular programme or for a complete programme package. You can obtain information on the encryption systems, enabling and prices from the respective programme provider. The receiver has 2 CAM module slots in PCMCIA standard and supports the following encryption systems: Viaccess, AlphaCrypt, Conax, Crypto Works, Irdeto and Aston/Seca. Switch the receiver off before inserting the CAM module. Insert the CAM module in the appropriate slot in the receiver and then insert the smart card into the module. After switching on the receiver, the module or modules will be initialised and the encrypted programmes should now be decoded perfectly. If this is not the case, please contact the respective programme provider to check whether the signal has been enabled for you. You will find information on the module in the main menu. Under INFORMATION in the main menu you will find the MODULE INTERFACE menu and a choice of all known CAM modules. Note: The setting options, information and language are determined by the CAM module. Be sure to pay attention to the application information provided by the manufacturer and by the programme provider.

22 kHz pulse:
This pulse, generated by the receiver, is used to control switches or to switch Digital LNBs to the digital range.
Analogue programmes:
In comparison with digital signals, analogue signals require a considerably greater quantity of information. With the constantly increasing range of programmes, the bandwidths available would no longer suffice in the long term. For this reason, analogue technology is gradually being replaced by digital transmissions. However, analogue transmission will still have a “right to exist” for a number of years.
Antenna cable:
The antenna cable sends the signals arriving from the LNB to the receiving part of the satellite receiver. In the rever­se direction, the receiver sends switching signals and voltages via the antenna cable to the receiving system (switch, LNB…). As signal losses are considerably greater in SAT systems and the switching signals are very small, only high quality, low-attenuation antenna cables should be used. The cable paths should be as short as possible. The F-plug, the shielding braid and the aluminium foil form the negative pole and must not touch the internal conductor (positive pole).
AV operation:
AV means Audio/Video. The connection of several devices (TV, SAT receiver, video recorder…) is generally performed with a scart cable. This connection provides the best picture and sound quality and does not normally require any additional settings. Satellite receiver and video recorder “register” via a switching voltage at the scart input of the TV device (or video recorder/digital receiver). If this switching does not occur, the SCART input must be manually activated via the remote control of the (TV or video) unit (e.g. AV or 0 button).
Bouquet:
Bouquet is a French expression meaning “A bunch of flowers” in English. Bouquets are bundled digital programme packets (e.g., ARD Digital), consisting of TV and radio programmes offered by a transmitter.
DiSEqC:
The DiSEqC technology was developed by Eutelsat to create an additional switching criterion (in addition to the 22 kHz pulse) and to enable the reception of several satellite positions. From Version DiSEqc 1.2, this technology also permits control of antenna rotors via the antenna cable.
Decoders:
Decoders are required to decode encoded programmes (“Pay TV”). Decoding incurs a monthly/annual contribution, depending on the programme provider and range. There are different encoding systems and video standards.
Digital LNB:
Digital LNBs enable the reception of the entire lower (Low Band) and upper frequency range (High Band). Digital LNBs are mainly required for the reception of digital programmes. Standard types: Digital Single LNB (max. 1 subscriber), Digital Twin LNB (max. 2 subscribers) and Digital Quattro LNB for distribution systems.
Digital reception:
To receive digital programmes you need a digital SAT receiver and a Digital LNB. Digital programmes are usually provided encoded. In order to decode them, a “chip card” is inserted into a card drive. Attention: Not all digital receivers are equipped or can be retrofitted with a (suitable) card drive!

Distribution or multi-subscriber systems:
The basis for constructing a distribution system (2 - 16 subscribers) are double or twin LNBs (2 outputs), or Quattro LNBs (4 outputs) in digitally compatible systems. The connections of the LNBs are connected to so-called multi­switches (e.g. 4- or 8-way). The outputs of the multi-switches are run directly (“radially”) to each subscriber. Additional terrestrial programmes (local TV and radio transmitters) can be introduced.
FEC:
FORWARD ERROR CORRECTION: An error correction system for the transmission path.
High Band:
Frequency range of 11.7-12.75 GHz. Used by satellite systems for broadcasting digital programmes (see 22 kHz).
Ku Band:
Transmission range of satellites 10.7-12.75 GHz (Low and High Band).
LNB/LNC:
Low Noise Block/Converter. This is located in the focal point of the satellite antenna (exception: “Multifeed”), and collects and amplifies the signals. As the received signals are too high frequency for switching via the antenna cable, they must be reduced by means of an “oscillator” (see LO frequency). The LNB is supplied with voltage by the satellite receiver via the antenna cable and receives the necessary control commands (horizontal or vertical recep­tion, High or Low Band).
Low Band:
Frequency range of 10.7-11.7 GHz. Used by the Astra satellite system for broadcasting analogue programmes, amongst other things (see 22 kHz).
LO frequency/oscillator:
LNBs have an oscillator with a fixed LO frequency for Low Band (9.750 GHz), while Digital LNBs have an additional oscillator for High Band (10.660 GHz). These values are already preset for LNB 1 to LNB 4 and should only be changed if you are using an older LNB type and the LO frequency of your LNB is known.
Multifeed:
An antenna on which two or more LNBs are mounted, which can receive different satellites.
Multi-switches:
Multi-switches are used in SAT distribution systems (from 3 subscribers/receivers). Multi-switches have at least 2 LNB connections for 1 double LNB (horizontal 18V and vertical 13V, possibly terr. input). In digitally compatible or Multifeed systems, at least 4 LNB inputs are required: horizontal 18V, vertical 13V, horizontal 18V + 22kHz and vertical 13V + 22kHz. In digital systems (for one SAT position) a Quattro LNB is connected to these connections, in Multifeed systems two double LNBs. Multi-switches are available for 4 and 8 subscribers. With a further multi­switch, up to 16 subscribers could be connected.

NIT:
Network Information Table: Information about reception data sometimes broadcast by programme organisers. Serves for automatically finding all programmes broadcast by the organiser.
Noise figure:
Given in dB: Specifies the quality of the amplifier used in an LNB. The smaller the value, the better the LNB.
Polarisation (horizontal/vertical switching):
The signals coming from the satellite are broadcast in two levels. As a result, the number of receivable programmes is practically doubled. Satellite receivers are equipped with a so-called horizontal/vertical switching to enable selec­tion of the two polarisation levels in the LNB. For this purpose, the two voltages are 14 volt for vertical and 18 volt for horizontal.
Quad LNB:
For direct connection of 4 receivers. The multi-switch is already integrated.
Quattro LNB:
For digital distribution systems. LNB with four outputs for horizontal, vertical, High and Low Band. Operation is only possible with 5/4 multi-switches.
Reception frequency:
As with VHF reception, each satellite programme has a reception frequency. In contrast to tuning a radio transmitter, further settings are necessary (polarisation, DiSEqC/22kHz/LO frequency)! If e.g. the LO frequency no longer agrees with the connected LNB, the transmitter cannot be received!
Satellite:
E.g. ASTRA or EUTELSAT system: The satellites are located in a geostationary orbit at a vertical height of approx. 36,000 km above the equator.
Satellite position and illumination zones (footprints):
Most satellites are located in a geostationary orbit 36,000 km above the equator. Viewed from Europe, these satellites are located southwards. The satellites “illuminate” different regions on the earth, similarly to the shine from a flashlight. In the centre of this illumination zone, smaller antennae are sufficient, while at the edges larger antennae must be installed. Reception is not possible outside these zones. Some programmes are only intended for reception in a particular country, but can be received without problem in neighbouring countries. Bad weather conditions (snow, rain) impair reception. This impairment can be reduced with precise antenna alignment or by using a larger antenna.

SCART:
21-pin plug standard for bidirectional image and sound transmission. Switching voltages and data can also be transmitted. 10-pin scart cables are sufficient for a satellite receiver or VHS video recorder. If a decoder or Super-VHS video recorder is used, 21-pin scart cables must be used! There are 3 common standards, which must be set on the video recorder or television so that the picture signal of the SAT receiver can be transmitted faultlessly: FBAS (setting on TV/video e.g. “C-Video”) for SAT receiver, standard video recorder (e.g. VHS or Video8) S-VHS (“Y/C” or “S-Video”) for Super VHS or Hi8 video equipment, sometimes also for digital SAT receivers. RGB (“RGB” is used e.g. for laser disk players, decoders or large-screen projectors).
Switching voltage:
Switching voltages switch a connected device to a particular status (e.g. AV mode) via the scart cable. Switched on satellite receivers and video recorders in playback mode usually “force” the television to switch to AV mode. Not all TV and video devices recognise this switching voltage, and must be switched over manually if necessary.
Symbol rate:
Data speed of the signal.
Terrestrial:
Terrestrial programmes are transmitted from and received on earth (lat. “Terra”). This includes, for example, TV programmes in the UHF and VHF range (including cable TV!) and VHF radio transmitters. Terrestrial antennae can be connected to the SAT system via a so-called transfer switch or multi-switch with terrestrial input. Terrestrial transmitters and SAT signals can thus be transmitted via a shared antenna cable and then be divided up again using a SAT connection box (SAT/TV/Radio). The introduction of terrestrial programmes is recommended, because:
1. Not all TV and radio programmes (e.g. regional transmitters) are transmitted via satellite;
2. Terrestrial programmes can be recorded independently of SAT-TV;
3. They can still be used in the event of failure of the SAT system (e.g. antenna displaced by storm).
Transfer switch:
Transfer switches (sometimes integrated into multi-switches) are required to fan-in SAT and terrestrial signals. These must be separated again by “reversed” transfer switches or SAT connection boxes.
Transponder:
Transmission unit on the satellite: In the digital range, the parameters are described by specifying frequencies and symbol rates.
USALS:
„Universal Satellites Automatic Location System“. Allows automatic calculation of satellite position for rotary satellite dish adjustment.
