Installation
SIRIUS suggests professional installa tion of this product in your vehicle. Pr ofessional installation provides an experienced technician to install this product in yo ur vehicle, advice for selecting a suitable mount ing location for the tuner and DCU, inst allation of the antennas and infrared receiver, a nd routing and connecting all the necess ary wires and cables.
Configuration Considerations
Disp lay Cont rol Unit
The SCV1 includes a Display Control U nit (DCU) which provides an interface to control the SIRIUS A/V tuner. The DCU ca n tune and display the SIRIUS radio chan nels, and can also control the SIRIUS Backs eat TV and change TV channels, as well a s displaying TV programming information .
Audi o Co nnec tion to the Vehi cle Head unit
There are two options for connecting the SIRIUS audio output to your vehicle’ s headunit:
Direct connection using an audio cabl e. An audio cable with RCA-type connecto rs
• is included for vehicles where the he adunit has an auxiliary audio input. Thi s option provides the best possible audio qual ity.
Connection using the FM Direct Adapte r (FMDA). If your vehicle’s headunit doe s
• not have an auxiliary audio input, yo u must use the provided FMDA instead. Th e FMDA installs in-line with the FM ant enna input to the vehicle headunit. When you turn on the SIRIUS radio, the FM ante nna input to your vehicle’s headunit is tem-
porarily redirected away from the veh icle radio. The SIRIUS audio is then sen t via the FM antenna cable to the headunit. By setting the SIRIUS tuner and your ve hicle headunit to the same FM channel, you can hear the SIRIUS radio audio. Note th at the FMDA does not affect the SIRIUS B ackseat TV reception which is available whether or not you are listening to S IRIUS radio broadcasts.
Wiring Diagrams
Figures 1, 2, and 3 show several poss ible wiring diagrams:
Figure 1 depicts the wiring when the DCU is used, and the audio is connected via
• a cable to the AUX input of the headu nit
Figure 2 depicts the wiring when the DCU is used, and the FMDA is used for th e
• audio input to the headunit
The FMDA must be used if the vehicle’ s headunit does not have a direct audio connection.
