Waterproof cabinet front in polycarbonate and die cast aluminum casing with watertight connectors. The cabinet can be flush or bracket mounted.
With a Simrad PI32 system you can get information about the net’s depth, water temperature, bottom contact, net damage and catch volume to suit your need for information. The signals from the sensors are picked up by the hull mounted hydrophone or from an over the side towed hydrophone. The information is displayed in large digits or easy to understand graphics on a compact display unit.
A shock absorbing, abrasive resistant polyurethane is used for moulding the Simrad PS30 sensor body. To further enhance
strength and avoid pit corrosion, the Simrad PS30 sensor
uses high-grade titanium for all metal parts. Titanium
is stronger than steel and does not corrode.
To increase visibility in subdued lighting, the
Simrad PS30 sensor is colored HyperYellow.
Echosounder - With a triducer installed, the PI32 becomes a full function Simrad EQ32 dual frequency color echosounder.
Temperature - Display with an alarm function, set for increasing or decreasing temperature.Temperature versus time can be shown graphically on the display.
Navigation - A dedicated display for position, heading and speed from an external GPS navigator.

The Simrad PI32 Net Monitoring system receives information from up to three sensors at the same time. Any three of the depth, temperature or the bottom contact sensors can be used at the same time. The system uses a hull mounted- or over the side hydrophone. The net’s depth, water temperature and the important bottom contact information are displayed in large digits or in easy to understand graphics on the compact display.
The Simrad PI32 is designed with different codes to avoid interference between vessels operating close together. The small size, quick update rate, long battery life and its long-range capability, allows the Simrad PI32 Net Monitoring system to be installed on any size net, from a small sardine net to a large tuna net.The Simrad PI32 interfaces to the latest professional Simrad echosounders and sonars.

Three catch indicators are in use. Sensor 1 and 2 are triggered indicated in red. Sensor 3 is still not activated.
Bottom trawling
Trawl system with depth, bottom and catch sensor. The depth is 52.3 meters, the bottom sensor indicates no bottom contact and the footrope has been off bottom for 7 minutes. The catch sensor has been activated for 19 minutes.
Effective trawling with Simrad PI32...
Simrad PI32 gives a new dimension to trawling where new sensor design, combined with new signal processing technology can achieve more efficient trawling. You can choose from the variety of sensors to build the trawl system that will give you the information required.
The PI32 catch sensor will indicate when a pre-determined tonnage of fish is caught in the cod end. The bottom contact sensor for trawlers is extremely important to help keep the trawl on the bottom, to avoid fish escaping under the rollers.
For a pelagic trawl, the new bottom sensor will sound an alarm when the foot rope is too close to the bottom.
Pelagic system with depth, bottom and catch sensor. The depth is 28 meters, no bottom contact and the catch sensor is not triggered. The headrope is indicated on the echosounder recording and the trawl height is entered manually.

• The depth sensor tells you the right moment to start pursing, helps you to purse at the right speed, helps you avoid lifting the net above the fish, measures the sink rate and detects if the net has stopped sinking.
• The bottom sensor prevents you from hitting the bottom and tearing the net, and helps you catch fish close to the bottom.
• The temperature sensor reads the water temperature and detects when a thermo-cline is passed.
• Watch the net sink towards the bottom with the depth sensor.
• Signals the right moment to start hauling by watching the depth and bottom sensor.
• Avoid lifting the net above the bottom with a bottom contact sensor.
• By using two depth sensors you can accurately measure the net opening.
• Watch the net sink towards the bottom and adjust vessel speed for maximum sink speed using the depth sensor.
• By using two depth sensors, the trawl opening will be accurately measured.
• The bottom sensor immediatly alarms when the footrope lifts off the bottom, letting the fish escape under the footrope.
• The catch sensor alarms and indicates when the trawl is filled and ready to be hauled.
• The temperature sensor prevents fishing in the wrong temperature layer.
• The rip sensor tells you if the trawl is damaged allowing fish to escape.
• Watch the net sink using the depth sensor and adjust the trawl depth to where the fish are.
• By using two depth sensors, the trawl opening will be accurately measured.
• The bottom sensor immediatly alarms when the footrope is too close to the bottom and helps you to avoid tearing the net.
• The catch sensor alarms when the trawl is filled and ready to be hauled .
• The temperature sensor prevents fishing in the wrong temperature layer.
• The rip sensor tells you if the trawl is damaged allowing fish to escape.
The bottom contact sensor is mounted on the ground line of a purse seine. By adjusting the length of the rope to the weight you can set when the bottom contact sensor should give an alarm.
A pelagic trawl close to the bottom. The length of the sense chain determines how close to the bottom the footrope is allowed before you get a bottom contact alarm.
A typical mounting of a bottom contact sensor on a trawl. The length of the sense chain determines how far off the bottom the footrope should be allowed before the alarm sounds.
The quick update rate gives an
immediate alarm when the net lifts off the bottom.

Installed on the footrope on the bottom of a trawl, the bottom sensor will immediatly indicate when the footrope is lifting off the bottom, letting the fish gathered in the trawl opening escape under the trawl net. For a purse seine net or a pelagic trawl, the bottom sensor will give an alarm when the bottom of the net is within a preset distance from the bottom. The bottom sensor has an easy to understand operation and is easy to rig on the net.
