Detailedvesselspecicmechanicaldrawingsfortheinstallationmustbeprovidedbythe
customer,oranyshipyardcontractedtoperformtheinstallation.

installationofthesystem.

ThismanualdescribestheinstallationoftheSimradMarineComputer

Themanualisintendedfortechnicalpersonnel;qualiedmaintenanceengineersand
technicians.Itisassumedthatthepersonnelisconversantwiththegeneralprinciplesof
maritimeelectronicequipment,inparticularsonar,echosounderandcatchmonitoring
systems.Thepersonnelmustalsobefamiliarwithcomputerhardware,signalprocessing,
interfacetechnologyandtraditionaltroubleshootingonelectronicandmechanical
products.

Physicalinstallation

TheES70/PI50MarineComputerisanindustrialcomputer.Itissmall,rugged,and
containsnomovingparts.Thismeansthatfans,harddisksandCDdrivesareomitted.
ThecomputerprovidesEthernetsockets,RS-232seriallines,andanumberofUSB
connectors.Theharddiskisreplacedwithasolidstatedrive(SSD).

TheMarineComputeriseasilymountedwiththebracketssuppliedwiththeunit.

Asmallexternalpowersupplyisprovided,andmustbeplacednearthecomputer.

Preparations

Twobracketsandeightboltsenclosed.Mountthetwobracketsatthebottomofthe
computer.

Procedure

Tomakesurethattheprocedureisfollowedcorrectly ,andintherightorder,tickoff
eachtaskafteryouhavedoneit.

Locatethemostconvenientlocationforthecomputer.

Inordertoallowforfuturemaintenance,westronglyadvicethatyoumountthe
computerwithitsrearpanelavailableforimmediateaccess.

Note

Makesurethatyoucanaccessboththerearandfrontsideofthecomputerafterit
hasbeeninstalled.

Markthelocationofthesixholesprovidedonthetwobrackets.

Mounttheunitusingsixboltsorscrews.

Findasuitablelocationforthepowersupply .

Securethepowersupplywithwirestraps,velcro,brackets,oranyother

meansappropriate.

Whenyouconnectthecables,makesurethattheyareallsecured,andableto
withstandthevibrationandmovementsofthevessel.

computerwillautomaticallysensethedisplayyouconnectduringsysteminstallation,
andwhichvideooutputyouuse.Dependingonthesechoices,youmayneedtosetupthe
displayresolutiontotyourrequirements.

Twoproceduresareprovided.Oneisusedifyouwishtouseasingledisplay.Theotheris
usedifyouwishtosetupthecomputerwithtwodisplaysprovidingthesameinformation.

NotethattheMarineComputerappearstohavethreevideooutputs.Thisisnotthecase.
Output1doesnotexist,andmustnotbeused.

Thisprocedureisusedifyouwishtouseasinglecomputer.Itcanbeconnectedto
eithertheVGAorDVIoutput.

computerwillautomaticallysensethedisplayyouconnectduringsysteminstallation,
andwhichvideooutputyouuse.Dependingonthesechoices,youmayneedtosetupthe
displayresolutiontotyourrequirements.

Twoproceduresareprovided.Oneisusedifyouwishtouseasingledisplay.Theotheris
usedifyouwishtosetupthecomputerwithtwodisplaysprovidingthesameinformation.

NotethattheMarineComputerappearstohavethreevideooutputs.Thisisnotthecase.
Output1doesnotexist,andmustnotbeused.

Thisprocedureisusedwhenyouwishtousetwodisplays.Y oumustthenconnectone
displaytotheVGAoutput,andonedisplaytotheDVIoutput.

Note

ThevideooutputstreamontheVGAoutputcanbeinhibitedbeforethedisplaysetuphas
beendone.Thiswillcausethedisplayscreentoturnblack.Theimagewillreturnwhen
thesetupprocedurehasbeencompleted.

Softwareinstallation,upgradeandremoval

IftheES70/PI50systemisprovidedwithacomputer,itisdeliveredwithallnecessary
softwareinstalled,conguredandtested.Ifyouuseyourowncomputer,youmustdo
thisyourself.

SoftwareupgradesareusefulifyourES70/PI50fails,andyoususpectasoftwareerror.
AnupgradeisalsorequiredwhenevertheES70/PI50softwareismodied.

Tocheckwhichsoftwareversionyouhave,observetheAboutdialogopenedfromthe

Displaymenu.

Ifyouexperienceproblemsduringasoftwareinstallationorupgrade,writedownthe
installationparameters.RemovetheES70/PI50softwareentirely,thenreinstallfrom
scratch.

Usethisprocedureifyouneedtoinstallthesoftwareonanewcomputer.Notethat
minimumhardwareandsoftwarerequirementsmustbemetbythecomputer.

1Powerupthecomputer.

2InserttheES70/PI50CD-ROM.

IfyourcomputerisnotttedwithaCDorDVDdrive,copythelesfromtheCDto
aUSBmemorystick.

3Observethattheinstallationprogramopens.

Iftheinstallationprogramdoesnotstartautomatically,usealemanagerto
accesstheCDorUSBmemorystick.Double-clickontheSetup.exeletostart
theinstallation.

4Allowtheinstallationprogramtorun.Followtheinstructionsprovided.

5Oncetheinstallationhasbeencompleted,double-clicktheprogramicononthe

desktoptostarttheapplication.

WhentheES70/PI50starts,youmayseeadialogrequestingpermissiontoupgrade
thermwareonthetransceiver.Thishappensifthermwareonthetransceiver
isolderthanthermwareprovidedasapartoftheES70/PI50software.Since
functionalityontheES70/PI50maydependonthermwareinthetransceiver,click
