Section B Washing instructions
Follow the instructions in this section for the best washing results.
Sort your washing into separate wash loads
Each load of washing should contain clothing which needs the same washing conditions. For example, you should not wash delicate clothes with very dirty work clothes.
Some fabrics are lint collectors and can pick up lint, dirt and colour from other fabrics, which are lint producers. Some examples are listed below.
LINT COLLECTORS
LINT PRODUCERS
Corduroy
Towels
Synthetics
Nappies
Permanent press fabrics
Chenille / Candlewick
Make sure that you wash lint collectors separately from lint producers.
Check your clothes to avoid damage
Empty all pockets.
Close all hooks and zippers to avoid snagging clothes.
Wash bras, pantyhose and other delicates in a mesh laundry bag which you can purchase from your supermarket.
Load the washing machine
When loading the clothes into your washing machine, there are four things to remember:
1.
Clothes must be loaded evenly around the agitator.
2.
Clothes must not be wrapped around the agitator.
3.
The washing machine must not be overloaded. Clothes must be able to move around during the washing cycle.
4.
The load should contain only two or three large items, eg sheets. The rest of the load should be small items. A mixed load of large and small items will wash cleaner than a load of large items.
10
Page 11
Add the detergent
When adding detergent to your washing machine, there are five
things to remember:
1.
Think about:
the type of dirt in the items to be washed
the size of your load
*
the hardness of the water in your local area
2.
Use only good quality detergents and only oxygen bleaches.
3.
Carefully follow the instructions on the detergent or oxygen bleach bottle or packet.
4.
Mix powder or liquid detergent in one litre of hot or warm water.
5.
Add the pre-mixed detergent to the wash load.
Don't do these things:
Don't use too little detergent because you will get a poor wash.
Don't use too much detergent because this may lead to
problems, eg too many suds.
Having a lot of suds in the washing machine does not
necessarily mean that the correct amount of detergent is being used.
Some detergents do not produce suds at all.
*
Don't use soap based products in your washing machine.
Don't use chlorine bleach with laundry powders or liquid detergents.
Add fabric conditioner
Fabric conditioners help make clothes softer and fluffier and reduce static so that clothes do not cling to you when you are wearing them.
When adding fabric conditioner to your washing machine, there are three things to remember:
1.
Carefully follow the instructions on the fabric conditioner bottle or packet.
2.
Mix conditioner with an equal amount of warm water but only mix enough to fill the cup in the top of the agitator. The fabric conditioner cup holds 90nnl.
3.
Pour the mixed conditioner into the cup in the top of the agitator. The conditioner will automatically be dispensed
before the deep rinse cycle.
Don't do these things:
Don't spill the conditioner onto the clothes because it may
stain them.
*
Don't overfill the cup in the top of the agitator because the
conditioner may mix with the detergent and stain your clothes.
*
Don't stop the washing machine during the spray rinse cycle
when using a fabric conditioner.
11
Page 12
Choose the water level
Water level
Different models of washing machines have different control panels. Check the control panel layouts in the first section of this booklet.
When you are choosing the water level, there are three things to
remember:
1.
Choose the water level by turning the water level knob. You can select:
LOW
water level
MEDIUM
water level
HIGH
water level
or any level in between.
2.
Use only the water you need.
3.
If you want to add more water after the wash cycle has
started you must turn the water level knob to
RESET
and then turn the knob to the new level that you want. The machine will stop, fill to the new level and start again.
Choose the water temperature
Different models of washing machines have different control panels. Check the control panel layouts in the first section of this booklet.
When you are choosing the temperature, there are four things to
remember.
1.
Choose the water temperature by turning the temperature
knob.
2.
The temperature knob shows the temperature of the water for
wash and rinse cycles.
3.
The WOOL setting will give you a warm wash and a warm
rinse.
4.
The temperature of warm water will depend on the temperature and the pressure of your water supply. The
recommended temperature for WARM is 40°C. You can adjust the flow rate of the water supply to adjust the WARM temperature.
IMPORTANT:
Some hot water supplies are too hot and can damage your washing
machine. Make sure that your hot water supply is not hotter than 70°C. If your water supply is too hot you may need to fit a temperature limiting valve. This must be fitted by a qualified
plumber.

Section C Additional features of your washing machine
Some models of washing machine have additional features which are described in this section.
Jj
Wash & soak or suds save option
With some Models you can save the soapy water and re-use it for another wash.
JL
On some washing machines this is called WASH & SOAK and on other washing machines it is called SUDS SAVE.
IMPORTANT:
You cannot save water in the PERMANENT PRESS cycle because this programme uses extra water to cool the wash load. This extra water could flood your laundry.
How to save your wash water.
(For washing machines fitted with one outlet hose)
1.
Set the options control knob or button to SUDS SAVE or WASH & SOAK.
2.
Put the plug in your laundry tub.
3.
Put the washing machine drain hose into the laundry tub.
4.
Select your wash programme and pull out the knob to start the washing machine.
5.
When your washing machine stops at the end of the WASH cycle, reset the options control knob or button to NORMAL. The washing machine will now pump the water into your laundry tub.
IMPORTANT:
If your laundry tub is not big enough, your laundry may be flooded. A standpipe or overflow drain can be fitted. Standpipes (Part No. 0336-001-726) are available from your nearest Service Centre.
6.
When all the water has been pumped into your laundry tub,
put the washing machine hose back into the drain outlet so
that the rinse water can be pumped away. The washing
machine will then complete the washing programme.
sh

IMPORTANT:
If you don't put the hose back in the drain outlet, the water can overflow from your laundry tub or go back into your washing machine.

Suds Return
How to re-use your wash water (Suds Return)
Single outlet hose
1.
Put the washing machine drain hose into the laundry tub.
2.
Make sure that there are no clothes in the washing machine
and close the lid.
3.
Make sure that the hot and cold taps are turned on.
4.
Turn the programme control knob to SUDS RETURN and pull out the knob. The washing machine will let some water into the bowl and will then pump it out to clear any air from the
hose. Then the saved water will be siphoned back into the
washing machine.
5.
Allow time for the water to be siphoned back into the washing machine because it is a slow process. The water will continue to siphon until the levels in the tub and the washing
machine are the same.
6.
When the washing machine has stopped siphoning, push the
programme knob in.
7.
Put the washing machine drain hose back in the drain outlet.
8.
Empty the laundry tub.
Rebalance indicator
Some models have a rebalance indicator light. This light tells you that the washing load has become unbalanced while the washing machine was spinning.
What to do when the rebalance indicator light comes on
1.
Open the lid.
2.
Redistribute the washing load evenly around the bowl.
3.
Close the lid and the washing machine should restart.
IMPORTANT:
If you open the lid while the machine is operating, the rebalance indicator light will come on. This is normal and it does not mean that the load is unbalanced. When you close the lid, the washing machine will restart.
Wash & soak option
With Models 540 and 740 you can soak your washing before completing the wash programme.
How to soak your washing
1.
Set the option control button to WASH & SOAK.
2.
Turn the programme control knob to any wash programme (except PERMANENT PRESS) and pull out the knob to start the washing machine.
The washing machine will stop at the end of the wash cycle and you can soak the load for as long as you like.
3.
Set the options control button to NORMAL. The washing machine will then complete the wash programme.

Section D Caring for your washing machine
Your washing machine will give you long and trouble-free service, if you follow the instructions in this section. These instructions show you how to care for your washing machine.
What to do after each wash
1.
Turn off the electricity at the power point.
2.
Turn off the water taps.
Cleaning the lint filter
Lint is a collection of threads and fluff which comes off your clothes during washing. Your washing machine collects this lint in the lint filter. It is important to clean out this lint filter preferably after each wash.
How to clean the lint filter
1.
Remove the conditioner dispenser cup and filter column from the centre of the agitator.
2.
Unclip the filter bag from the column.
3.
Turn the bag inside out and remove the lint.
4.
Wash the filter bag and dispenser cup in hot water.
5.
Reassemble the filter to the column and place it back in the centre of the agitator.
Page 19
Cleaning your washing machine
To clean the inside and outside of your washing machine you should:
1.
Wipe the surfaces with a mild dishwashing detergent and warm water.
2.
Wipe dry with a soft cloth.
IMPORTANT:
Never use solvents, aerosol cleaners, spray pack cleaners, metal polishers, caustic materials, scourers or general household cleaners on the plastic control panel or other parts of your
washing machine.
Removing your washing machine lid
You can remove the lid of your washing machine for easy cleaning.
How to remove the lid
1.
Hold the lid in a vertical position.
2.
Lift the right hand end and then move the lid to the right.
The hinge will come away from the top panel.
How to replace the lid
1.
Hold the lid in a vertical position.
2.
Put the left hand hinge into the hinge hole of the top panel.
3.
Put the right hand hinge into the hinge slot and close the lid.
IMPORTANT:
If the electrical cord of this appliance is damaged,
it must be replaced by the Manufacturer, Authorised Service Agent or similarly qualified

Cleaning stains in the wash bowl
Stains in the wash bowl can be caused by:
metal objects such as bobby pins, dressmaking pins and nails
*
salt
IMPORTANT:
Check all pockets before loading clothes into your washing machine.
Don't leave wet clothing (especially swimwear) in the bowl for too long before you wash it.
How to clean the stainless steel washbowl
Wipe with a cleaning product which is marked suitable for stainless steel.
IMPORTANT:
Never use bleach cleaners or steel wool.
Avoiding build up of undissolved detergents
If you only wash with cold water, undissolved detergent and body oils will build up in the washing machine. This build-up can cause spotting on your clothes.
To avoid this build-up:
*
do not use too much fabric softener with cold water
*
select a hot water wash at least once a month.
What to do if there is spotting on your clothes
1.
Put 250 grams of Epsom Salts into the washbowl.
2.
Fill the washing machine with HOT water and agitate for one
minute.
3.
Leave the water in the washing machine for 3 hours.
4.
Agitate for 5 minutes.
5.
Pump the water out.
6.
Rinse the washing machine twice with cold water.
For your safety:
If you have a mains pressure hot water service and it has not been
used for two or three weeks:
Before using the washing machine it is recommended that a hot water tap close to the washing machine be turned on and the water allowed to flow for a couple of minutes. This will allow any gas pressure that has built up over the period of non use to be discharged.
*
For further details please refer to your hot water service installation instruction and owners guide.
*
This washing machine is not intended for use by young children or infirm persons without supervision.
*
Young children shoud be supervised to ensure that they do not
play with the appliance.

Problem
Possible causes
Incorrect wash times and using
insufficient detergent which can cause redepositing of detergent on clothes
Using too much detergent can cause poor rinsing and poor spin performance
Using soap flakes instead of laundry detergent
Mixing whites with very dirty clothes, eg work clothes
1 Add three quarters of a cup of
water softener, eg
Calgon
to the water with one cup of ammonia
or
oxygen bleach

1
and 2 above
Synthetics which have been washed in very hot water will not respond to any treatment.
Section E Handy washing hints
This section gives you some help in dealing with washing problems.
Yellowing or greying clothes
Stained clothes
Hints for removing stains
Treat all stains as soon as possible. The longer you leave a stain the harder it will be to remove.
Try soakers and stain removers first.
IMPORTANT:
Use stain removers in well ventilated areas and
away from your washing machine. Avoid the use of hot water on stains as hot water will set stains. Use light strokes and don't rub the stain remover into the fabric. If you use a chlorine bleach, follow the instructions on the bottle and dilute it before putting it on clothing. Test coloured fabrics on an inside seam for colour fastness before using any stain removers or bleaches.
* Test synthetic fabrics on an inside seam before using any
chemicals or bleaches.
IMPORTANT:
Do not use dry cleaning fluids near your washing
machine. These fluids will damage your washing
machine and may cause an explosion.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS -
MEDIUM WASHING MACHINES
Thank you for buying this Washing Machine. It has been made for self installation by the customer.
Your dealer, Authorised Service Centres or service technician can install it if you wish,
BUT YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY A FEE.
FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS COULD RESULT IN DAMAGE
TO THE WASHING MACHINE WHICH MAY NOT BE COVERED BY WARRANTY.
INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS
1.
Electrical:
a properly earthed three pin power point not more than 1500mm from the washing machine. DO NOT USE AN EXTENSION CORD.
2.
Water:
cold and hot water taps with 3/4" BSP threads less than 800mm from the back of the washing machine and at least 1150mm from the floor. Longer inlet hoses can be purchased from EMAIL Spare Parts Centres or Authorised Service Centres if the taps are further away.
If the HOT water temperature exceeds 70°C then a tempering valve must be fitted.
Your local Plumber can advise you on this. Water pressures between 20-1400kPa are acceptable.
3.
Area:
a floor area of 600mm wide by 630mm deep is required. The floor should be firm and have a slope of less than 20mm in 600mm. If you have cupboards above the washing machine then these should be at least 1350mm from the floor. A 30mm gap is required underneath the washing machine when installed on a carpeted floor.
4.
Drain:
A storage trough that will hold 70 litres is
required if you are going to save all of the suds (wash)
water. A drain either in the floor or trough which can take a flow of 30 litres per minute is required. The floor drain must be at least 900mm high and 32mm in diameter and less than 300mm from the side of the washing machine. Longer drain hoses can be purchased from EMAIL Spare Parts Centres or Authorised Service Centres if required.

Legs or heels to be fitted as indicated
INSTALLATION
1.
Open the lid and remove the cardboard packing, accessories and hoses (if not already fitted) from the washbowl. Replace the cardboard packing and close the lid.
2.
Cut the plastic straps on the wooden baseboards
(See fig. 1) and pull the cut strap out from under the
washing machine.
If the straps are stuck, remove them at step 4.
3.
Lay some of the corner posts (from the carton) on the floor. Sit the washing machine over the corner posts so that the baseboards are off the floor. Push down on the baseboards in turn to remove them from the washing machine. (See fig. 2)
MAKE SURE THE PLASTIC PEGS ARE REMOVED WITH THE BASEBOARDS.
4.
With the corner posts still on the floor, lay the washing machine over on its left hand side onto the corner posts. The corner posts will protect the paint from being scratched (see fig. 3).
5.
If the floor is level and your washing machine is supplied with rollers, fit the rollers into the bottom corner brackets. (See fig. 4) Make sure they click into the corner bracket.
If the floor is not level fit the 4 adjustable legs into the
corner brackets. (See fig. 5) Make sure they click into the corner brackets. Screw the legs up into the machine as far as they will go. Fit a rubber pad to each leg.
6.
Stand the washing machine upright, open the lid and remove the cardboard packing.
7.
Fit the drain hose hook, (See fig. 6) and adjust the free length of the hose to suit your trough. The end of the drain hose should just touch the bottom of the trough. (See fig. 7).

Ensure that the plastic tie or clamp at the rear of the
washing machine is holding the drain hose firmly in
place.
NOTE: It is important that the drain hose is above the join between the cabinet and the washing machine top panel.
(See fig. 7)
9.
If the inlet hoses have sealing washers fitted, connect
the hose with the BLUE nuts to the COLD water tap and to the washing machine valve with the BLUE marker. Similarly connect the hose with the RED nuts to the HOT water tap and the washing machine valve with the RED marker.
MAKE SURE THE HOSE NUTS ARE TIGHT.
REMOVE THE CARDBOARD HOSE HOLDER FROM THE REAR OF THE WASHING MACHINE (if fitted)
If the inlet hoses do not have the sealing washers fitted, proceed as follows; Fit the sealing washers (no strainer) into the bent ends of the water inlet hoses and connect the BLUE nut to the COLD water valve (blue marker) on the washing machine and the RED nut to the HOT water valve (red marker) on the washing machine. (See fig. 8)
MAKE SURE THE HOSE NUTS ARE TIGHT.
If strainer washers (washers containing a mesh filter) are not fitted to the nuts which are to be connected to the inlet taps proceed as follows: Fit the sealing washers to the nuts with the mesh
pointing towards the tap (See fig. 9) and connect the
BLUE nut to the COLD water tap and RED nut to the
HOT water tap.
MAKE SURE THE HOSE NUTS ARE TIGHT.
Turn the tap/s on and check that there are no leaks from the tap/s or washing machine.
10.If
you only have a cold water tap, you must fit a blank cap with a sealing washer to the HOT water inlet valve, otherwise water will leak out of the valve.
(See fig. 10)
A blank cap is available from EMAIL Spare Parts Centres or Authorised Service Centres.
Page 28
11.Move the machine into its final position making sure that the drain hose or inlet hoses do not kink.
12.If the washing machine has 4 rollers fitted, you will need to twist the front two around to stop the washing machine from moving when in use. (See fig. 11)
13.1t is important that your washing machine stands firm and level on the floor to ensure correct operation.
Use a spirit level on the front and side panels of the washing machine to check the levels, (See fig. 12). The spirit level should be used close to the corners of the washing machine for accuracy. Adjust the legs up or down as required (See fig. 13).
If you do not have a spirit level, as a guide use the edge of a door frame, cupboard or bench to check that the washing machine is level.
Make sure the washing machine does not wobble.
fig. 13
NOTE: When the washing machine is placed in its final position, make sure the drain hose is above the join line
between the cabinet and the washing machine top panel as shown below.
So that you can properly understand the many features of your new washing machine, please take a few
minutes to read through the CARE & USE manual supplied with this washing machine.
