Memory Modules Installation Guide
Use this guide along with your computer user guide to install your memory upgrade. Some computer manufacturers may void the warranty , if the system is opened and upgraded by the end user. Please consult your system manufacturers for your computer warranty policy.
1. First, make sure the number and capacity of memory modules are compatible with your system requirements by referring to the computer’s user guide or by using our upgrade navigator at www.simpletech.com
2. Turn off the computer and disconnect the power cord.
3. Refer to your computer user guide, and remove the computer’s cover .
Caution: It is very important to discharge static electricity which might have built in your body or clothing, before handling the
4. Locate the memory sockets on your computer main board. Refer to your computer user guide to locate the memory sockets.
5. Remove the Existing Memory Modules, If Necessary: If all memory sockets are populated, you might want to replace the lower capacity memory modules with higher capacity memory modules. T o remove the lower capacity memory modules, push the locking tabs away from the modules for DIMMs, or release the SO-DIMMs by pushing the retaining tabs away from the sides of the SO-DIMMs. Then gently pull the memory modules away from the sockets.
6. Some computers require a specific sequence of memory sockets to be populated, based on capacity of the memory modules. Refer to your computer user guide and determine the socket sequence specified for the memory upgrades, if any .
7. Install the Memory Modules in the Sockets: Refer to the illustration below and orient the memory to the socket so that the key notches of the memory module align with the keys of the socket. Pushing the memory module into the socket with the wrong orientation might damage the memory modules or the sockets. For DIMMs, push the memory by pressing the top edge straight down into the socket; the locking tabs will automatically close to secure the memory. For SO-DIMMs, fit the memory module into the socket at a 30-degree angle, and gently push it into the socket until 75% of the edge-connector is covered; then pivot the module into the socket until the retaining tabs click into place to secure the memory module. Make sure the module is firmly
seated in the socket.
Installing New DIMMs for Desktop/Server Computers
1. If necessary, remove the existing memory modules by pushing the locking tabs away from the modules, and pull the module carefullay away from the socket
3. Push the module into socket
2. Align keys of the new memory module with the keys on the sockets
4. Locking tabs will automatically close to secure DIMM. Make sure the module is firmly seated in the socket.
Installing New So-DIMMs
for Notebook Computers
1. If necessary, remove the existing memory modules by pushing the retaining tabs away from the sides
of the SO-DIMM, and pull the module carefully away from the socket.
2. Align keys of the new memory module with the keys on the sockets
3. Fit memory-edge into socket at 30˚ angle.
4. Pivot down so that the module snaps into the retaining tabs. Make sure the module is firmly seated in the socket.
8. Replace your computer cover, reconnect the power cord and boot the system.
9. Most computers will automatically recognize the upgraded memory on the next boot, while some computers may require you to configure the new memory. Check with your computer and operating system user guides.
