General Power Tool Safety Warnings

WARNING Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, ﬁre and/or serious injury.

The term "power tool" in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

Work Area Safety

a) Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents b) Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the

presence of ﬂammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes

Distractions can cause you to lose control

Electrical Safety

a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any

way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodiﬁed plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric

shock

b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes,

radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric

shock if your body is earthed or grounded

c) Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a

power tool will increase the risk of electric shock

d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or

unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric

shock

e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable

for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of

f) If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a

residual current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces

Personal Safety

a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when

operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the inﬂuence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of

inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury

b) Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection.

Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries

c) Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position

before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your ﬁnger on the switch or

energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents

d) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on.

A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury

e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This

enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations

f) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair,

clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts

g) If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use

of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards

Power Tool Use & Care

a) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your

application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the

rate for which it was designed

b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any

power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired

c) Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack

from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures

reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally

d) Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow

persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users

e) Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving

parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools

f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with

sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control

g) Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with

these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from

those intended could result in a hazardous situation

Service

a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualiﬁed repair person using only

identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power

tool is maintained

Cutting Tool Safety

Use the correct cutting tool

• Ensure the cutting tool is suitable for the job. Do not assume a tool is suitable without checking the product literature before use.

Protect your eyes

• Always wear appropriate eye protection when using cutting tools

• Spectacles are not designed to offer any protection when using this product;

normal lenses are not impact resistant and could shatter

Protect your hearing

• Always wear suitable hearing protection when tool noise exceeds 80dB

Protect your breathing

• Ensure that yourself, and others around you, wear suitable dust masks

Be aware of others around you

• It is the responsibility of the user to ensure that other people in the vicinity of the work area are not exposed to dangerous noise or dust and are also provided with suitable protective equipment

Hidden objects

• Inspect the workpiece and remove all nails and other embedded objects before cutting

• Do not attempt to cut material that contains embedded objects unless you know that the cutting tool ﬁtted to your machine is suitable for the job

• Walls may conceal wiring and piping, car body panels may conceal fuel lines, and long grass may conceal stones and glass. Always check the work area thoroughly before proceeding

Beware of projected waste

• In some situations, waste material may be projected at speed from the cutting tool. It is the users responsibility to ensure that other people in the work area are protected from the possibility of projected waste

Fitting cutting tools

• Ensure cutting tools are correctly and securely ﬁtted and check that wrenches / adjusters are removed prior to use

• Only use cutting tools recommended for your machine

• Do not attempt to modify cutting tools

Direction of feed

• Always feed work into the blade or cutter against the direction of movement of the blade or cutter

Beware of heat

• Cutting tools and workpieces may become hot in use. Do not attempt to change tools until they have been allowed to cool completely

Control dust / swarf

• Do not allow dust or swarf to build up. Sawdust is a ﬁre hazard, and some metal swarf is explosive

• Be especially careful when cutting wood and metal. Sparks from metal cutting are a common cause of wood dust ﬁres

• Where possible, use a dust extraction system to ensure a safer working environment

Jigsaw Safety

For safety relating to protective clothing/equipment and general health hazards relating to power tools; refer to General and Electrical Safety sections in this manual

• Be aware that the cutting blade will project from the underside of the workpiece. Ensure all supports and power cables are completely clear of the cutting path

• See speciﬁcation section of this manual for the correct type of blade. Incorrect blades may not be secured correctly, causing a safety hazard

• Ensure that an appropriate blade is used for the material being cut

• Do not attempt to cut material thicker than detailed in the speciﬁcations section

of this manual

• Do not force the blade to bend or twist whilst cutting

• Always keep the shoe pressed against the workpiece

• If a cut does not extend to the edge of the workpiece, allow the blade to come

to a complete stop before lifting it from the workpiece

• Blades will be hot after cutting. Allow to cool completely before handling

• If a blade jams, disconnect machine from the mains power supply before

attempting to free blade

• Support or clamp the workpiece to avoid vibration, and ensure a good cut

• This saw should only be used as instructed. Do not attempt to mount this saw

to any kind of saw bench or stand

Unpacking Your Tool

• Carefully unpack and inspect your tool. Fully familiarise yourself with all its features and functions

• Ensure that all parts of the tool are present and in good condition. If any parts are missing or damaged, have such parts replaced before attempting to use this tool

Operating Instructions

Before you use your jigsaw, it is recommended that you practice on scrap material. The settings of the machine are crucial to achieving a good quality ﬁnish, and your work could easily be damaged by using an incorrect setting.

WARNING: Always disconnect the saw from the mains power supply before making adjustments or changing accessories.

Fitting a blade

• Always check that a suitable blade is selected for the job that is to be done (refer to the blade manufacturers information before use)

• Only ﬁt blades that are in perfect condition. Blunt, bent and cracked blades should be discarded

• Invert the jigsaw, lift up the Guard (10)

• Pull forward the Blade Lock Lever (9) and insert the blade

• Release the Blade Lock Lever (9) and pull ﬁrmly on the blade to make sure it

is secure

Setting pendulum action

• This jigsaw features a pendulum cutting function. Pendulum action enables more efﬁcient cutting

• There are 4 settings, 0 – 4 as marked around the selector

• For fast cutting and thick material, set the Pendulum Action Selector (6) to a

high number

• For ﬁne cutting and thin material, set the Pendulum Action Selector (6) to a low number

• Practice using different pendulum settings to achieve the best ﬁnish for your material

Setting bevel angle

• This jigsaw is equipped with a tilting Shoe (5). This allows bevel cuts to be made up to 45º to the left or right hand side

• To alter the angle of the Shoe (5), invert the jigsaw and loosen the Bevel Locking Screws (12), using the supplied 3mm Hex Key (14) The shoe is now free to pivot

• Adjust the shoe to the required angle and then tighten the Bevel Locking Screws (12)

• NOTE: Ensure that the Shoe (5) is secured ﬁrmly in position prior to use

Setting cutting speed

• Always set the machine speed to suit the material being cut

• To alter the cutting speed, rotate the Speed Control Dial (1). A high number

indicates a high cutting speed

Dust Control

• This jigsaw should always be connected to a vacuum dust extraction system where possible

• Connect your vacuum to the the Dust Extraction Port (4)

Handling your jigsaw

• Always ensure that the On/Off Switch (2) is NOT in the locked on position before connecting to the power supply

• Always hold the jigsaw securely using the handle provided. Keep hands away from all moving parts

• Allow the motor and Blade (7) to come to a complete stop before placing the machine down. Always unplug the machine if it is to be left unattended

• Ensure that work will not move whilst being cut. Use clamps where appropriate

• For some tasks it may be preferable to lock the machine in the 'on' position. To

do this, squeeze the On/Off Switch (2) and depress the Lock On Button (3)

• The machine will now continue to run until the On/Off Switch (2) is squeezed and released

Making a cut

• Always wear appropriate safety equipment. Use of this tool requires safety goggles, gloves, ear defenders, and a good quality dust mask or respirator

• Hold the jigsaw securely and rest the front edge of the Shoe (5) on the edge of the workpiece

• If starting a cut away from the edge of the workpiece , drill a pilot hole large enough for the blade to pass through where you wish to start the cut

• Check that the Blade (7) is not in contact with the workpiece , or any other object

• Start the machine by squeezing the On/Off Switch (2)

• Allow the motor to reach full speed, and gently push the jigsaw forwards across

the workpiece

• Maintain a steady movement, and ensure that the Shoe (5) is continually pressed against the work. Ensure that the power lead is kept well away from the front of the saw as the cut is made

• Allow the Blade (7) to pass through the material, then release the trigger switch. Alternatively, if the cut does not reach the edge of the workpiece , release the trigger switch and allow the blade to stop moving before lifting out of the cut

• Do not place the machine down until the motor and Blade (7) have completely stopped

Using the parallel guide fence

• When working parallel to an edge, the parallel Guide Fence (13) should be used

• The Guide Fence (13) locates in the front of the Shoe (5) and is secured by

tightening the Fence Locking Screws (8)

• To follow an edge, simply make a cut, whilst keeping the vertical foot of the guide fence pressed against the edge to be followed

Operating the Laser

WARNING: Do not look directly into the beam. Never direct the beam towards other people. The beam should only be aimed towards solid, non reﬂective, materials. Do not switch the laser on until the saw is positioned against the workpiece

• To operate the laser press the Laser Switch (11). The laser will switch on. The laser line indicates the cut that will be made if the saw is moved forward in a straight line

• Pressing the Laser Switch (11) again will switch the laser off

Maintenance

WARNING: Always remove the plug from the mains power supply before carrying out any maintenance/cleaning.

Cleaning

• Keep your machine clean at all times. Dirt and dust will cause internal parts to wear quickly, and shorten the machine’s service life. Clean the body of your machine with a soft brush, or dry cloth. If available, use clean, dry, compressed air to blow through the ventilation holes

Brushes

• Over time the carbon brushes inside the motor may become worn. Excessively worn brushes may cause loss of power, intermittent failure or visible sparking

• If you suspect that the brushes may be worn, have the machine serviced at an authorised service centre

Disposal

• Do not dispose of power tools, or other waste electrical and electronic equipment, with household waste

• Contact your local waste disposal authority for information on the proper way to dispose of tools

Carriage will not be refunded. Items for return must be in a suitably clean and safe state for repair, and should be packaged carefully to prevent damage or injury during transportation. We may reject unsuitable or unsafe deliveries.

All work will be carried out by Silverline Tools or its authorized repair agents.

The repair or replacement of the product will not extend the period of guarantee

Defects recognised by us as being covered by the guarantee shall be corrected by means of repair of the tool, free of charge (excluding carriage charges) or by replacement with a tool in perfect working order.

Retained tools, or parts, for which a replacement has been issued, will become the property of Silverline Tools.

components. Faulty installation (except installed by Silverline Tools). Repairs or alterations carried out by parties other than Silverline Tools or its

authorized repair agents. Claims other than the right to correction of faults on the tool named in

these guarantee conditions are not covered by the guarantee.

Sécurité électrique

a) Rester vigilent et faire preuve de bon sens lors de la manipulation de

l’appareil. Ne pas utiliser un appareil électrique lorsque l’on se trouve dans un état de fatigue, ou sous l’inﬂuence de drogues, d’alcool ou de médicaments. Un moment d’inattention pendant l’utilisation d’un outil

électrique peut se traduire par des blessures graves.

b) Porter un équipement de protection approprié. Toujours porter une

sécurité antidérapantes, casque de sécurité et protections antibruit adaptés aux différentes conditions de travail réduit le risque de blessures corporelles.

c) Eviter tout démarrage accidentel. S’assurer que l’interrupteur

marche-arrêt soit en position d’arrêt avant de brancher l’appareil sur l’alimentation secteur ou d’installer la batterie, de prendre l’appareil ou de le transporter. Porter un appareil électrique tout en maintenant le doigt

g) Si l’appareil est pourvu de dispositifs destinés au raccord

d’équipements d’extraction et de récupération de la poussière/sciure, s’assurer qu’ils soient bien ﬁxés et utilisés correctement L’utilisation de

ces dispositifs peut réduire les risques dus à la poussière.

approprié au travail à effectuer. Un appareil électrique adapté et employé

au rythme pour lequel il a été conçu permettra de réaliser un travail de meilleure qualité et dans de meilleures conditions de sécurité.
