SILVA 100/125 is e speciall y suitable fo r sailing boa ts, motor s ailing vess els and large r motor
yach ts. The com pass permi ts up to 45° hee ling and unlim ited tiltin g fore and af t.
SILVA 100/125 is s upplied wit h a yellow main lu bberline an d two yellow ai d lines 45° on e ach
side of t he main lubber l ine. It has a bui lt-in clinome ter +/- 45°.
The compass is delivered with buil t-in illumination.
The co mpass can b e supplied wi th compens ators as an op tional ext ra.

ILLUMINATION
This c ompass can b e supplied wi th illumina tion 12 V.
Adapt ation to 24V-ill umination c onnected i n series by a re sistor of 2 70 ohm, 0.5 W.
POSITIONING
SILVA 100/125 sh ould be posit ioned ver tically or sl oping (max 30 °). Vertica lly only, if a com pensator is fitted.
BULKHEAD MOUNT
The co mpass shou ld be positio ned where it c an be easil y read from all a ngles, eve n in darkness w hen illumina ted. Posit ion the comp ass as far as p ossible awa y from iron obj ects or
other d isturbing m agnetic so urces as lou d speakers , windscre en wipers, i nstrumen ts etc.
NB! SILVAs elect ronic inst ruments do n ot disturb t he compas s.
When ch ecking for m agnetic dis turbanc e, use an ordin ary SILVA handheld c ompass, h eld in
the for e-and-af t directio n around the in tended moun ting site. In m ost case s 0.5 to 1 metre
betw een the comp ass and the so urce of dis turbance w ill be sucie nt. Do not for get to
swit ch on all elec trical equi pment near t he compass w hen making th is check.
MOUNTING
SILVA 100/12 5 is intended f or flush mou nting.
The co mpass mus t be mounted e xactly at r ight angles t o the boat’s l ongitudin al directi on.
NB! Do no t take It for gr anted that f or instan ce a bulkhea d is at a right an gle to the boa ts
longi tudinal dir ection. D rill a hole by us ing the enclo sed templa te. The com pass must h ave
a cer tain mounti ng depth, ot herwise th e compass ’ expansio n membrane i s ettect ed, which
could lead lo leakage.
Only 12 5 B/H: Loose n the four out er screws al t he back of the c ompass. R emove the co mpass f rom the fron tplate. M ount the fron tplate on to t he bulkhea d and screw th e compass
on, fr om the inside .
COMPENSATION AND DEVIATION (COMPENSATOR SOLD SEPARATELY)
Comp ensation is r ecommend ed, if the dev iation is mo re than 5 degre es, when th e compass
is in it s normal moun ting positi on.
If the er ror is less t han 5 degree s, it is suci ent to produc e a deviatio n table.
Comp ensation is m ade with the t wo compen sation adju ster screw s ”E/W” an d ”N/S” in ord er
to redu ce the error s caused by i ron object s or other sou rces of magn etic distu rbance. Th e
comp ensation ad juster scr ews are situ ated at the co mpass lowe r front edge .
When c ompensat ing, the boat s hould be in an ar ea that is not a ected by pe rmanent- or
electromagnetic disturb ances.
1. Aim the b oat due Nor th and turn th e ”N/S” scre w until the com pass read ing is 0°.
2. Aim the b oat due Eas t and turn the ”E /W” scre w until the co mpass rea ding is 90°.
3. Aim the b oat due Sou th. If the com pass does no t show 180°, tur n the ”N/S” sc rew until the
error i s halved. (E .g. If the err or is 6° - turn the sc rew until th e error is 3 °.)
4. Aim the bo at due West . If the compa ss does not sh ow 270°, tur n the screw unt il the error
is halved.
5. Go thro ugh the proc edure again a nd check the a djusted val ues.
6. Check t he compas s every 20 deg rees and pro duce a devia tion table a nd deviatio n curve.
As the m agnetic con ditions in a bo at are liable t o change, we r ecommend c hecking of th e
comp ass once a yea r and always a fter inst allation of e quip ment which mi ght aect th e
compass.
NB! Do no t regard the c ompass a s an accura te navigati onal instr ument unti l the compen satio n is carrie d out and the dev iation tab le is produc ed. Whenev er in doubt, p lease see k
the adv ice of a comp ass adjus ter!
MAINTENANCE
To clean the c ompass, u se a mild soap s olution or de tergent. D o not use str ong solvent s,
such as s pirit, ac etone or petr oleum.
The co mpass tole rates temp eratures d own to -30°C . It is advisa ble not to subj ect it to seve re
cold for long periods.
