Step
1
Install PCMCIA Card
1. With your computer powered off, insert the SpeedStream®1012 into an empty
PCMCIA Type-II slot as shown.
2. Use a UTP cable with RJ-45 connectors to connect the SpeedStream®1012
to a network hub, switch, or router. Use Category 5 for 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps
connections. The UTP cable should have a maximum length of 328 ft (100 m).
Note:
• The card auto-negotiates the speed and duplex mode of the network
connection, providing seamless operation on either 10 or 100 Mbps segments.
• Full-duplex communications allow data to be sent and received simultaneously,
doubling the effective throughput. Refer to the “read me” files on the driver CD
for information on setting the duplex mode.

2
Install the Software
The SpeedStream®1012 Installation CD contains the documentation and all software drivers available
for this card. The RELEASE.TXT file, located in the root directory, describes the CD contents.
1. Insert the SpeedStream®1012 Installation CD into the CD-ROM drive.
2. Select the appropriate folder for your operating system. Each folder contains
a text file that details the proper installation and configuration procedures for
that operating system.
3. If the host PC does not automatically configure the SpeedStream
®
1012, or if there
is a problem with the card, run the DOS-based Diagnostics program. The program
and text information file is located on the driver CD in the “\Diag” directory.

LED Functions
The SpeedStream®1012 includes two LED indicators:
LED Condition Description
ACT
Flashing green Indicates incoming and outgoing network traffic
LINK On green Indicates a valid 100 Mbps network connection
On amber Indicates a valid 10 Mbps network connection
off Indicates no network connection
