Properties of the TS Adapter IE

2.1 Variants of the TS Adapter IE

Variants of the TS Adapter IE
There are two variants of the TS Adapter IE:
● TS Adapter IE Modem – with an internal modem – with a connection for an external modem or ISDN-TA
● TS Adapter IE ISDN – with internal ISDN-TA – with a connection for an external modem or ISDN-TA

2.2 Functions

2
Functions of the TS Adapter IE
The TS Adapter IE has the following functions:
● Remote maintenance over the phone network Wit the TS Adapter IE, you can use an application running on the PG/PC, such as
STEP 7, to access Industrial Ethernet connected S7 and C7 automation components over the phone network.
For this the TS Adapter IE requires – a connection to the automation components via Industrial Ethernet, – a modem connection to the PG/PC
● Sending e-mail With the AS_MAIL function block you can send e-mail from a SIMATIC CPU via the
TS Adapter IE. To do this, the TS Adapter IE establishes an outgoing modem connection to a dial-up server, such as at an Internet Service Provider (ISP), and sends the e-mail via a mail server accessible there.
● Standard routing With the TS Adapter IE you can set up a modem connection to an ISP to access data on
the Internet using a browser.
