If damage has occurred

– Keep naked flames and/or ignition

sources away from the appliance,

– pull out the mains plug,

– thoroughly ventilate the room

for several minutes,

– Notify customer service.

The more refrigerant an appliance
contains, the larger the room must be.
Leaking refrigerant can form a flam­mable gas-air mixture in rooms which
are too small.

The room must be at least 1 m

3

per 8 g
of refrigerant. The amount of refrigerant
in your appliance is indicated on the
rating plate inside the appliance.

Important information
when using the appliance

– Never use electrical appliances

inside the appliance (e. g. heater,
electric ice maker, etc.).

Explosion hazard!

– NEVER use a steam cleaner to

defrost or clean the appliance.
The steam may penetrate electrical
parts and cause a short-circuit.
Risk of electric shock!

– Do not store products which

contain flammable propellants
(e. g. spray cans) or explosive
substances in the appliance.

Risk of explosion!

– Do not stand or support yourself on

the base, drawers or doors, etc.

– Use the motorised compartment

carefully.
Hands can become trapped
between the motorised compart­ment and the appliance casing.

– For cleaning and exchanging the

bulb, pull the mains plug out or
switch off the fuse.
Do not pull out the mains plug
by tugging the cable.

Warning: When the appliance is
switched off using the temperature
setting (Display:

), the supply of

current is not disrupted.

– Bottles which contain a high

percentage of alcohol must be
sealed and stored in an upright
position.

– Keep plastic parts and the door

seal free of oil and grease.
Otherwise, parts and door seal will
become porous.

– Never cover or block the ventilation

openings for the appliance.

– Do not store bottled or canned

drinks (especially carbonated
drinks) in the freezer compartment.
Bottles and cans may explode!

– Never put frozen food straight from

the freezer compartment into your
mouth. Risk of low-temperature
burns!

– Avoid prolonged touching of frozen

food, ice or the evaporator pipes,
etc. risk of low-temperature burns!

– Do not scrape off hoarfrost or stuck

frozen food with a knife or pointed
object. You could damage the
refrigerant tubing. Leaking refrige­rant may ignite or cause eye
injuries.

– Only customer service may change

the power cord and carry out any
other repairs. Improper installations
and repairs may put the user at
considerable risk.

Children in the household

– Do not allow children to play with

the appliance!

– If the appliance features a lock,

keep the key out of the reach of
children.

Disposal of your
old appliance

Old appliances are not worthless
rubbish! Valuable raw materials can be
reclaimed by recycling old appliances.

This appliance has been
identified in accordance with
the European directive 2002/
96/EG on Waste Electrical and
Electronic Equipment – WEEE.
The directive specifies the
framework for an EU-wide valid
return and recycling of old
appliances.

Installation

Installation location

Install the appliance in a dry, well
ventilated room. The installation location
should neither be exposed to direct
sunlight nor near a heat source, e.g.
a cooker, radiator, etc. If installation
next to a heat source is unavoidable,
use a suitable insulating plate or observe
the following minimum distances to
a heat source:

– 3 cm to an electric cooker.

– 30 cm to an oil or solid-fuel cooker.

The floor on which the appliance is to
be installed must be rigid. If required,
reinforce the floor. To ensure that the ice
maker functions correctly, the appliance
must be upright.

Observe ambient temperature
and ventilation

The atmosphere grade is written on the
identification plate. It states the room
temperature within which the appliance
can be operated.

Ventilation

Never cover the ventilation openings
in the base panel. The cooling motor
otherwise has to increase ist output,
and this increases the electricity
consumption.

Fixing

For secure installation, the appliance
screwed to neighbouring kitchen
furniture and/or units.

It is very important therefore that all
bordering furniture and/or units are fixed
securely to the floor and/or walls.
If making structural changes fix the
appliance in place again corresponding
to the the installation instructions.

Installation surface

A load-bearing base is necessary
because of the heavy weight of the fully
laden appliance.

The weight of the appliance when fully
loaded:

– 45.7 cm appliance 250 kg

– 61.0 cm appliance 350 kg

– 76.2 cm appliance 425 kg

In case of doubt, consult an architect
or structural engineer.

Installing and connecting
the appliance

After installing the appliance, wait at
least ½ hour until the appliance starts
up. During transportation the oil in the
compressor may have flowed into the
refrigeration system.

Before switching on the appliance for
the first time, clean the interior of the
appliance (see “Cleaning the appliance”,
page 16).

Electrical
connection

Do not use an extension lead or a multi­plug socket.

The plug to secure the appliance must
be freely accessible. Connect the
appliance to a 220

–240 V/50 Hz ac

current via a plug which has been
properly installed. The socket must be
fused with a 10 A fuse or higher.

For appliances operated in non­European countries, the identifi­cation plate should be checked
whether the electric supply and the
current model stated match the vales
of the mains supply. The rating plate
is situated in the bottom left-hand
side of the appliance. Any necessary
exchanging of the mains lead should
carried out by a specialist electrician.

Never connect the appliance to
electronic energy saver plugs or to
power inverters which convert the
direct current to 230 V alternating
current (e.g. solar equipment,
power supplies on ships).

Upon leaving the factory, the appliance
has been supplied with the following
settings:

Note

The factory settings (language, tempe­rature unit) can be changed in the setup

Switching on
the appliance

l

Press the on/off button .

The appliance starts to cool down when
switched on for the first time. When the
door is opened, the interior light comes
on.

Note

The preset temperatures (factory
settings) are reached after approx.

–8 hours. Do not put any food in the

appliance beforehand.

To change the set temperatures –>
see “Setting the temperature”, page 8.

Selecting the
temperature

The temperature can be set from

–16 °C to –24 °C. We recommend

a setting of –18 °C.

The temperature setting can be
changed using the + (warmer) or –
(cooler) setting buttons.

Door alarm

If an appliance door is left open, an
alarm signal is emitted after one minute
and a corresponding alarm message
appears in the fascia.

Close the door.

Pressing the alarm button
switches the signal off. If the door is not
closed properly again, the alarm signal
will be emitted after one minute once
more.

“super” freezing

The “super” freeze function is ideal
when storing larger amounts of food.
It should be pre-activated 4–6 hours
before storing. 24 hours are necessary
when using the maximum freezer
capacity fully.

This function is activated by pressing
the “super” freezing button

.

Variable interior
design

You can vary the shelves inside the
appliance and the containers in the
door to suit your requirements.

Shelves

The height of the glass shelves can be
adapted.

l

Lift the compartment front and
move it upwards or downwards
into the guiding positions.

l

Lower the compartment front to the
desired height. The holders engage
into the guiding positions.

Removing the compartments:

Lift the compartment front and move it
into the guiding positions as far as the
openings. Remove the compartment
forwards.

Place the compartment into the guiding
positions openings and press down­wards. Set the compartment to the
desired height.

Door storage
compartment

l

Lift the container and remove.

l

Place the containers at the desired
height and press downwards.

Drawers

To take out, lift the drawers slightly and
take out.

To place in, lift the front of the drawers
slightly and place into the chest of
drawers.
Lower the drawer and slide it
backwards.

Ice cube container

For storing larger amounts of food,
it is possible to remove the ice cube
container.

Note:

Before removing the ice cube container,
switch the ice maker off, see “Ice
maker”, page 13.

Setup mode

There are menus for adapting the
appliance to the individual user require­ments. These adaptions are carried out
in the setup mode.

To activate the setup mode:

Press setup button .

The first menu (temperature unit)
is displayed in the fascia.

To switch to the next menu:

The next menu is displayed and its

To make a selection within the setting
options of a menu:

A changed setting is stored, if the

To deactivate the setup mode:

If no button is selected within
20 seconds, the setup mode ends
automatically. All of the changed

Temperature unit

The temperature can be displayed in
degrees Fahrenheit (°F) or degrees
Celsius (°C).

– The interior illumination is switched

off;

– the “Super freeze” function is

ended (if activated).

Freezing and storing
food

Purchasing deep-frozen
food

When purchasing deep-frozen food,
comply with the following:

– Check that the packaging is not

damaged.

– Check the sell-by date.

– The temperature of the

supermarket freezer should be

lower than –18

°C. If not, the

storage life of the food is reduced.

– Purchase deep-frozen food last.

Wrap in newspaper or place in

a cold bag and take home.

– At home immediately place deep-

frozen food in the freezer compart-

ment. Use the deep-frozen food

before the sell-by date runs out

– Do not refreeze thawed food.

Exception: If you use the food

to make a ready meal (boiling or

frying), you can refreeze this ready

meal.

Storing deep-frozen food

If a lot of food is to be stored,
the drawers can be taken out and food
can be stacked directly in the compart­ments.

Usable capacity

Information concerning the effective
contents can be found on the identi­fication plate.

Freezing deep-frozen food

Freeze fresh, undamaged food only.
To prevent food from losing its flavour or

How to wrap food
correctly:

Storage duration of the
frozen food

The storage period depends on the type
of produce.

At a mean temperature:

Ice maker

The ice maker makes ice cubes.

The ice maker starts to make ice cubes
as soon as the appliance has reached
the set temperature.

If the ice cube container is full, the ice
maker automatically switches off.

In order to prevent the ice cubes from
"sticking together" a metal endless
screw rotates in the ice cube container
at periodic intervals (agitation function).

The ice maker can make approx.

1.3 kg ice cubes within 24 hours.

Do not place bottles or food in the
cube container in order to cool them
quickly. The ice maker may block
and be damaged.

Switch on the ice maker

Make sure that ice maker container
is its place and locked into position.

Press the ice maker button on
the control panel.

Important note:

If the ice cube maker is used for the first

How to save energy

– Install the appliance in a cool, well

ventilated room, but not in direct
sunlight and not near a heat source
(radiator, cooker, etc.). If required,
use an insulating plate.

down before placing in the

– Thaw frozen food by placing it in

the refrigerator. The low tempera­ture of the frozen food will then
cool the food in the refrigerator
compartment.

Important information
concerning the water filter

After use, the water system is
subject to low pressure. Be careful
when removing the filter!

l

Rinse the water system through
if the appliance has not been used
for a long period, or if the water
tastes or smells unpleasant.
In addition to this, draw water from
the water dispenser for several
minutes. If the unpleasant taste or
smell persists exchange the filter.

Exchanging the filter
cartridge

l

Turn the filter cap on the base of
the appliance by 90—180° anti­clockwise and remove the filter
cartridge.

l

Take a new filter cartridge from the
packet and remove the protective
cap.

l

Take the filter cap off of the used
filter cartridge and place it onto the
fresh filter cartridge.

l

With the filter cap in a horizontal
position, feed the filter cartridge
into the opening on the appliance
base as far as it will go.

l

Turn the filter cartridge 90–180°
in a clockwise direction.

l

Draw a few litres of water from
the water dispenser. Doing this
removes air from the water system.

Pour water out of the used filter
cartridge. The filter cartridge can

Throw the first glass of water away.

The water appears
cloudy.

There is air or air bubbles in the water. This is normal when using the dispenser for

the first time. It disappears after a short time.

Particles float in the
water or ice cubes.

The first water which runs through the filter can
rinse carbon dust out of the filter.

The particles are not harmful! These particles
disappear after a short period.

If water freezes and thaws again, particles are
formed by mineral deposits.

The particles are not harmful! In the water supply
this is a natural occurrence.
