Mixing Fuel
WARNING!
Alternative fuels, such as E15 (15% ethanol), E-85 (85% ethanol) or any fuels not meeting Shindaiwa requirements are NOT approved for use in Shindaiwa gasoline engines. Use of alternative fuels may cause
performance problems, loss of power, overheating, fuel vapor lock, and unintended machine operation, including, but not limited to, improper clutch engagement. Alternative fuels may also cause premature deterioration of fuel lines, gaskets, carburetors and other engine components.
Fuel Requirements
Gasoline - Use 89 Octane [R+M/2] (mid grade or higher) gasoline known to be good quality. Gasoline may contain up to 10% Ethanol (grain alcohol) or 15% MTBE (methyl tertiary-butyl ether). Gasoline containing methanol (wood alcohol) is NOT approved.
2 Stroke Mixture Oil - A 2-stroke engine oil meeting ISO-L-EGD (ISO/CD 13738) and J.A.S.O. M345/FD standards must be used. Shindaiwa One formulated for use in all Shindaiwa 2-stroke engines. Engine problems due to inadequate lubrication caused by fail-
ure to use an ISO-L-EGD (ISO/CD 13738) and J.A.S.O. M345/FD certied oil will void the engine warranty.
For increased engine protection, Shindaiwa recommends using Shindaiwa Red ArmorTM engine oil to protect the engine from harmful carbon build up, maintain engine performance, and increase engine life. Shindaiwa Red ArmorTM engine oil exceeds ISO-L-EGD and J.A.S.O. M345/FD performance requirements.
Shindaiwa OneTM 2-Stroke oil or Red ArmorTM engine oil may be mixed at 50:1 ratio for application in all Shindaiwa engines sold in the past, regardless of ratio specied in those manuals.
Stored fuel ages. Do not mix more fuel than you expect to use in thirty (30) days, ninety (90) days when a fuel stabilizer is added. Use of unmixed, improperly mixed, or stale fuel, may cause hard starting, poor performance, or severe engine damage and void the product warranty. Read and follow instructions in the Long Term Storage section of this manual.
TM
2-Stroke Oil is strongly recommended as it meets this standard and is specically

Carburetor Adjustment
Engine Break-In
New engines must be operated a minimum duration of two tanks of fuel break-in before carburetor adjustments can be made. During the break-in period your engine performance will increase and exhaust emissions will stabilize. Idle speed can be adjusted as required.
High Altitude Operation
This engine has been factory adjusted to maintain satisfactory starting, emission, and durability performance up to 1,100 feet above sea level (ASL) (96.0 kPa). To maintain proper engine operation and emission compliance above 1,100 feet ASL the carburetor may need to be adjusted by an authorized ECHO service dealer.
IMPORTANT!
If the engine is adjusted for operation above 1,100 feet ASL, the carburetor must be re-adjusted when operating the engine below 1,100 feet ASL, otherwise severe engine damage may result.
NOTE:
Every unit is run at the factory and the carburetor is set in compliance with emission regulations. Carburetor adjustments, other than idle speed, must be performed by an authorized Shindaiwa dealer.
Adjusting engine idle
The engine must return to idle speed whenever the throttle lever is released. Idle speed is adjustable, and must be set low enough to permit the engine clutch to disengage the cutting attachment.
WARNING!
The cutters must NEVER engage at engine idle speeds! If the idle speed cannot be adjusted by the procedure, described here, contact your authorized Shindaiwa servicing dealer.
Idle Speed Adjustment
Place the trimmer on the ground, then start the engine, and then allow it to 1. idle 2-3 minutes until warm.
If the attachment rotates when the engine is at idle, reduce the idle speed 2. by turning the idle adjustment screw counter-clockwise.
If a tachometer is available, the engine idle speed should be nal adjusted 3. to the values in the Specication section.
NOTE:
Carburetor fuel mixture adjustments are preset at factory and cannot be ser-
viced in the eld.

Gearcase lubrication
CAUTION!
Over-lubricating may cause the gearcase to run slower than normal, and may also cause leakage from excess grease.
Do not remove the conrods from the cutters. Conrod bearings can be lost or damaged if disturbed.
Top off gearcase grease level by using a lever-type grease gun to force 1–2 strokes of high quality lithium-based grease
through the gearcase grease tting.

Cutter blade adjustment
WARNING!
The cutter blades are very sharp! Always wear gloves when working around the cutter assembly.
Cutting performance of your machine depends a great deal on proper cutter blade adjustment. Properly adjusted blades will oscillate freely yet help prevent binding of cut material between blades. Adjust blades as follows:
1.
Loosen all blade locknuts at least one full turn. Tighten each blade shoulder bolt rmly, and then loosen the shoulder bolts 2.
1/4 to 1/2 turn.
CAUTION!
Operating the trimmer with worn or improperly adjusted cutters will reduce cutter performance and may also damage your machine. Never operate the machine with damaged or worn cutters.
Working from the gearcase end, lock each bolt in place by rmly tightening 3. its locknut while preventing the shoulder bolt from turning.
When shoulder bolt adjustment is correct, there should be a gap of 0.25–
0.50 mm between the cutter blades and the at washers, and the at washer
beneath each bolt head should turn freely.
