Bei Einstellung der ON/STAND-BY-Taste auf STAND-BY ist die Netzspannung immer noch im Gerät vorhanden. Wenn die ON/STAND-BY-Taste auf STAND-BY eingestellt wird, kann das Gerät unter Verwendung der Timer-Betriebsart oder Fernbedienung in Betrieb gesetzt werden.

Precautions

Please ensure that the equipment is positioned in a well ventilated area and that there is at least 10 cm (4") of free space along the sides and back. There must also be a minimum of 15 cm (6") of free space on the top of the unit.

Use the unit on a firm, level surface free from vibration.

Keep the unit away from direct sunlight, strong magnetic fields, excessive dust, humidity and electronic/electrical equipment (home computers, facsimiles, etc.) which generates electrical noise.

Do not place anything on top of the unit.

Do not expose the unit to moisture, to temperatures higher than 60°C (140°F) or to extremely low temperatures.
z
If your system does not work properly, disconnect the AC power lead from the wall socket. Plug the AC power lead back in, and then turn on your system.
z
In case of an electrical storm, unplug the unit for safety.
z
Hold the AC power plug by the head when removing it from the wall socket, as pulling the lead can damage internal wires.
z
Do not remove the outer cover, as this may result in electric shock. Refer internal service to your local SHARP service facility.
z
The ventilation should not be impeded by covering the ventilation openings with items, such as newspapers, tablecloths, curtains, etc.
z
No naked flame sources, such as lighted candles, should be placed on the appa­ratus.
z
Attention should be drawn to the environmental aspects of battery disposal.

The apparatus is designed for use in moderate climate.

This unit should only be used within the range of 5°C - 35°C (41°F - 95°F).
Warning:
The voltage used must be the same as that specified on this unit. Using this product with a higher voltage other than that whi ch is specified is dangerous and ma y result in a fire or other type of accident causing damage. SHARP will not be held responsible for any damage resulting from use of this unit with a voltage other than that which is specified.

This unit is fitted with a cooling fan at the rear for im­proved cooling. It begins to run automatically when the unit is turned on. Do not cover the opening in this section with any obstacles.

During use the unit will get warm, do not touch warm areas of the unit for pro­longed periods to avoid damage to you or the unit.

This product is equipped with special function which protects amplifier circuit from damages. When it is activated, sound switch is turned off. In this case, set the unit to the stand-by mode and turn it on again.
Volume control
The sound level at a given volume setting depends on speaker efficiency, location, and various other factors. It is advisable to avoid exposure to high volume levels, to avoid this do not turn the volume on to full at switch on and listen to music at moder­ate levels.
Care of DVD/CD discs
DVD/CD discs are fairly resistant to damage, however mistracking can occur due to an accumulation of dirt on the disc surface. Follow the guidelines below for maximum enjoyment from your DVD/CD collection and player.

Do not write on either side of the disc, particularly the non-label side from which signals are read. Do not mark this surface.
z
Keep your discs away from direct sunlight, heat, and excessive moisture.
z
Always hold the DVD/CDs by the edges. Fingerprints, dirt, or water on the DVD/ CDs can cause noise or mistracking. If a DVD/CD is dirty or does not play properly , clean it with a soft, dry cloth, wiping straight out from the centre, along the radius.

A disc that has scratches or fingerprints on it may not play properly. Refer to "Care of DVD/CD discs (page 4)" and clean the disc.

Do not play the discs of special shapes (heart or octagon shaped) as they can be ejected from the machine whilst rotating and cause injury.
Title, chapter and track
DVDs are divided into "titles" and "chapters". If the disc has more than one movie on it, each movie is a separate "title". "Chapters" are subdivisions of titles.

The speaker terminals on the main unit, the tube and plugs of the speaker lead, and speaker labels are distinguished by colours. Connect the speaker and the unit by matching the colours. Connect the speaker wires to the speakers first, then to the unit.

Caution:

Make sure to connect the speakers after unplugging the unit.
z
Do not mistake the and , and right and left terminals of the speaker leads. (The right speaker is placed on the right when you face the unit.)
z
Never short-circuit the speaker leads. If the speaker leads are short-circuited, the protec­tion circuit is activated and the power is turned off. In such a case, check that the leads are properly connected before turning the power on again.
z
Only the supplied speakers should be used with this product.
z
Do not stand or sit on the speakers. You may be injured.
z
Insert the speaker plug fully with the rising side facing up.
z
Hold the speaker plug when removing it from the main unit. Pulling the lead may cause malfunction to the unit.
Plug in with the rising side facing up.
Aerial connection
Supplied FM aerial:
Connect the FM aerial wire to the FM 75 OHMS socket and position the FM aerial wire in the di­rection where the strongest signal can be re­ceived.
Supplied AM loop aerial:
Connect the AM loop aerial wire to the AM and GND terminals. Position the AM loop aerial for optimum reception. Place the AM loop aerial on a shelf, etc., or attach it to a stand or a wal l wit h screws (not supplied).
Notes:
z
Placing the aerial on the unit or near the AC power lead may cause noise pickup. Place the aerial away from the unit for better reception.
z
When static is still heard even after adjusting the position of the AM loop aerial, try reversing the wire connections.

You can connect the TV via the AV 1 (TV) or MONITOR OUT socket. Use the appro­priate socket.
Caution:
Before connecting the TV, turn off all the equipment.

Using the SCART cable, you can listen to the TV sound with this unit.

When the SCART cable is used, the playback sound of this unit can be listened to through the TV unit. If you want to listen to the sound like this, set the sound mode to "STEREO" or "VIRTUAL". If it is set to "STANDARD", the sound cannot be heard.

After checking all the connections have been made correctly, connect the AC power lead to the AC power input socket, then plug the AC power lead of this unit into the wall socket.

When you cannot identify the polarity of the wall socket without an earth term inal, try to plug it upside down or other methods to obtain the optimal sound quality.
z
Never use a power lead other than the one supplied. Otherwise, a malfunction or an accident may occur.

Unplug the unit if it is not to be used for a prolonged period of time.
To turn the power on
Press the ON/STAND-BY button to turn the power on.
To set the unit to stand-by mode:
Press the ON/STAND-BY button again.
General control
Volume control
Press the VOLUME button to increase the volume and the VOLUME button for decreasing.
Bass control
When the X-BASS button is pressed, the current mode setting will be displayed. To change to a different mode, press the X-BASS button.
Bass frequencies are emphasised. The sound is not modified.
This function is enabled only when the sound mode is set to "STEREO" or "VIR­TUAL".(page 47.)
To change the display brightness (2 levels)
You can switch the display brightness by holding down the DISPLAY button on the remote control for 2 seconds or more.

System installation
Placing the speaker system
The best surround effect will be achieved by placing each speaker at the same dis­tance from the listening position. It is recommended to arrange the speakers as shown below.

Place the TV halfway between the front speakers.
z
It is recommended that the centre speaker be placed near the television.

Keep the free space of at least 10 cm (4") along the left side of the subwoofer.

Place the surround speakers at a position just above the height of your ears.

The speaker grille is not removable.
The front and centre speakers may be placed beside or near the TV as they are mag­netically shielded. However, colour variation may occur, depending on the type of the TV.
If colour variation occurs...
Turn off the TV (from the power switch). After 15 - 30 minutes, turn the TV on again.

If the colour variation is still present...
Move the speakers further away from the TV. Refer to the user's manual of the TV for details.
Caution:
Do not place the surround speakers and the subwoofer near the TV as they are not magnetically shielded.

Remote control
Battery installation
1 Remove the battery cover. 2 Insert the batteries according to the direction indicated in the bat-
tery compartment.
When inserting or removing the batteries, push them towards the battery termi­nals.
3 Replace the cover.
Precautions for battery use:
z
Replace all old batteries with new ones at the same time.
z
Do not mix old and new batteries.
z
Remove the batteries if the unit is not to be used for long periods of time. This will prevent potential damage due to battery leakage.
Test of the remote control
Face the remote control directly to the remote sensor on the unit.
The remote control can be used within the range shown below:
Press the ON/STAND-BY button. Does the power turn on? Now, you can enjoy your system.

Do not use rechargeable batteries (nickel-cadmium battery, etc.).

Installing the batteries incorrectly may cause the unit to malfunction.
Notes concerning use:
z
Replace the batteries if the operating distance is reduced or if the operation becomes erratic. Purchase 2 "AAA" size batteries (UM-4, R03, HP-16 or similar).
z
Periodically clean the transmitter on the remote control and the sensor on the unit with a soft cloth.
z
Exposing the sensor on the unit to strong light may interfere with operation. Change the lighting or the direction of the unit.
z
Keep the remote control away from moisture, heat, shock, and vibrations.
How to open the sliding cover
This remote control has buttons on its front and back. To use the buttons on the back, open the sliding cover.
Slide the cover until it clicks.
Notes:
z
When operating the buttons on the back of the remote contr ol, be careful not to press the buttons on the front side. The unit may malfunction.
z
Close the sliding cover on the back whilst using the buttons on the front side.
z
You can control the TV and VCR with this remote control (pages 65, 66).
