This software operates under the Microsoft Windows 95, 98, NT4.0 Workstation, Me, 2000 Professional, XP Home or Professional Edition operating systems. This manual references only these Microsoft Windows Operating Systems and compatible mouse devices. For details please refer to the Microsoft Windows operation manual. If there are any terms in the manual you do not understand, please refer to “Glossary” (page 99).

Foreword

This software is designed for presentations and for enhancement of images projected from SHARP projectors. It includes the following functions:

Projector Control Software:

Network Control

This function allows you to control the projector’s functions/ adjustments from your PC. A maximum of 250 projectors or grouped projectors can be controlled from a central PC/CONTROLLER. The Video Wall function, which normally requires expensive devices, can be performed without purchasing additional hardware. When the backup function is used, the projector standing by as the backup projector automatically turns on if an error occurs in the other projector(s).

Image Enhancement Software:

Gamma Correction

This function allows you to set the projector’s Gamma values directly from your PC. The ease of specifying preset values enables precise custom brightness, contrast and color adjustments. Please note that this function can only be performed via a Network (COM and LAN port).

Support Software for Presentations:

Presentation Transfer

This mode transmits BMP and JPEG images to the projector. By saving presentation slides as BMP or JPEG images, you can do an entire presentation wirelessly.

Capture & Transfer

This mode allows you to transmit an image currently displayed on your monitor. As simple as clicking the “Capture & Transfer” button in the application.

Quick Transfer

This mode is similar to “Capture & Transfer” but it can easily be used by clicking the “Right” mouse button.

● Wireless image transfer can only be used with the XG-NV5/6/7. Wireless image transfer cannot be used to transfer images with other models.

● The following models do not support JPEG image transfer: XG-P20X, XG-P25X, XG-V10X, XG-V10W.

Required Hardware and Software

Sharp Advanced Presentation Software Professional Edition

requires the following hardware and software for operation.

PC running under Microsoft Windows 95, 98, NT4.0 Workstation, Me, 2000 Professional, XP Home or Professional Edition

Operations are confirmed with Japanese and English versions of those

Windows operating systems only.

CPU 233 MHz Pentium or higher is recommended.

Display A 800 × 600 dot display capable of displaying

Using infrared communications (IrCOM)

If you use the NV5/6/7 projector, transferring images can be performed using infrared communications (IrCOM). The PC requires a built-in infrared communications port or an external infrared communications adapter.

● For Windows 95 users: Microsoft IrDA 2.0 (Infrared Driver) must be installed on your PC to use this software. If it is not installed, you can obtain it from the Microsoft’s site on the Internet.

● For Windows 98 users: Microsoft Windows 98 supports IrDA communications as a default program. Please consult to Microsoft operation manual for more details.

● For Windows NT4.0 Workstation, Me, 2000 Professional , XP Home or Professional Edition users: Infrared communications (IrCOM) cannot be used.

● The transmission speed of infrared communications is dependent on the IrDA version of the PC.

• IrDA 1.0 : 9,600 bps - 115.2 kbps

• IrDA 1.1 : 4 Mbps

Therefore the actual speed depends on the IrDA version your PC supports. See the computer’s instruction manual for the IrDA specifications.

We cannot guarantee that the software will operate on computers whose motherboards have been changed or modified, or on computers that the users have configured themselves.

Projector and PC Connections

This software requires the use of an RS-232C serial cable, LAN cable or infrared communications. For details on PC connections, refer to the projector’s operation manual.

CAUTION

Before connecting, be sure to turn both the projector and the computer off. After making all connections, turn the projector on first. The computer should always be turned on last.

● Please read the computer’s instruction manual carefully.

● If you use the NV5/6/7 projector, image transfer by using infrared

communications can be available.

Connecting Multiple Projectors with PC

When connecting multiple projectors using ID numbers (when forming a network system consisting only of XG-V10 Series and XG-P20X and XG-P25X projectors)

● The connection between PC and the Projector or the Projector and the Projector is possible by using the projector’s RS-232C IN/OUT terminal.

● Up to 250 projectors can be connected.

● Up to 99 COM ports can be used.

● Daisy chain connections are possible.

● LAN connections are possible only with models from the XG-V10

series with the optional extension board (AN-L10T) installed.

● See “Table of Functions by Model” (page 92) about the projector’s available functions.

When connecting multiple projectors without using ID

● Up to 99 projectors can be connected.

● Up to 99 COM ports can be used.

● Daisy chain connections are not possible.

● LAN connections are not possible.

● See “Table of Functions by Model” (page 92) about the projector’s

available functions.

Connect one projector per COM port. If you want to use the connection via the COM ports, the same number of COM ports as the projectors is needed. If the number of COM ports built in your PC is less than the number of projectors, purchase the extension board (commercially available) to add COM ports to your PC.

Installing the Software

This software can be installed using the installation program supplied on the “Sharp Advanced Presentation Software Professional Edition

CD-ROM”.

1 Make sure that this software is suited for your computer.

For details, refer to “Required Hardware and Software” (page 9).

2 Quit all running applications before installing this

software.

Be sure to quit all other applications so that no problems occur with the installer.

3 Delete the previous version of the Sharp Advanced

Presentation Software.

For details, refer to “Uninstalling the Software” (page 19).

4 Insert the “Sharp Advanced Presentation Software

Professional Edition CD-ROM” in the CD-ROM drive.

5 Double click the “My Computer” icon or select Windows

Explorer.

6 Double click the CD-ROM drive icon in the “My Computer”

or in Windows Explorer.

7 Double click the “SAPS_PRO” folder. 8 Double click the “SETUP1.EXE” icon.

| The “Sharp Advanced Presentation Software Professional

Edition” Opening Image will be displayed.

9 Select the language of the software to be installed.

Select a language appropriate for your computer’s environment.

| The “Sharp Advanced Presentation Software Professional

Edition” dialog box will open.

10 Click “Next>”.

| The “Choose Destination Location” dialog box will open.

11 The folder under which the software will be installed is

displayed in “Destination Folder”.

To select another folder, click “Browse...”.

12 Click “Next>”.

| “Auto-Launch Setup” dialog box will open.

13 Click “ON” under “Auto-Launch” to automatically launch

the software every time you start your PC. (Recommended)

If you set “Auto-Launch ON”, a “Sharp Advanced Presentation Software Professional Edition” icon will appear in the Windows task tray. If not, use the “Sharp Advanced Presentation Software Professional Edition” shortcut icon on the desktop or the Windows “Start” menu.

14 Click “Next>”.

| Installation will start.

| When the installation is completed, the “Setup Complete” dialog

box will open. To use the program immediately, please restart your computer.

Setting up your PC for Infrared Communications (IrCOM)

If you use the NV5/6/7, image transfer can be performed using infrared communications (IrCOM). To use infrared communications, set the PC’s port for infrared communications according to the following steps.

Infrared communications (IrCOM) cannot be used with Windows NT4.0 Workstation, Me, 2000 Professional, XP Home or Professional Edition.

1 Click “Start”, and then click “Settings”, then select

“Control Panel”.

| The “Control Panel” window will open.

2 Double click the “Infrared” icon.

| The “Infrared Monitor” window will open.

For Windows 95 users: If an “Infrared” icon is not displayed the Microsoft IrDA 2.0 (Infrared Driver) is not installed on the computer. You can obtain it from the Microsoft’s site on the Internet.

3 Click the “Options” tab.

| The “Options” sheet will open.

4 Check the “Enable infrared communication” check box.

Select the port used for infrared communications.

Refer to the PC’s instruction manual for the appropriate port settings. Do not check the “Search for and provide status for devices within

range” and “Limit connection speed to” check box.

5 Click the “Preferences” tab.

| The “Preferences” sheet will open.

6 Click “Restore Defaults”.

The system will return to standard settings.

7 Click “OK”.

| The “Infrared Monitor” window will close and the “Infrared”

icon will appear in the Windows task tray.

Uninstalling the Software

Always uninstall Sharp Advanced Presentation Software Professional

Edition, when installing a new or updated version.

1 Make sure that the software is closed before proceeding.

Before uninstalling Sharp Advanced Presentation Software Professional Edition, the “Auto-Launch” setting must be “OFF”.

For details, see page 22.

2 Click “Start”, then click “Settings”, and then select

“Control Panel”.

3 Double click the “Add/Remove Programs” icon. 4 Click the “Sharp Advanced Presentation Software

Professional Edition”.

5 Click the “Add/Remove...”. 6 Click the “Yes”.

7 When uninstallation is correctly completed, “Uninstall

successfully completed” will appear. Click “OK”.

Opening Modes

Before starting the software, make sure that the projector and the PC are correctly set up. There are three ways to start up the software.

Starting from the “Sharp Advanced Presentation Software Professional Edition” icon in the Windows task tray

This icon appears when “Auto-Launch ON” is selected. See page 22 for “Auto-Launch” setting.

1 Start up the projector.

Make sure to turn the projector on first. The computer should always be turned on last.

The projector must be in IrCOM mode to receive the images. Press the “IrCOM” button on the projector or the remote control.

For NV5/6/7 users:

To use infrared communications, select the “IrCOM” mode, referring to the projector operation manual for details.

2 Start up the PC. Click the “Sharp Advanced Presentation

Software Professional Edition” icon in the Windows task tray.

| The “Sharp Advanced Presentation Software Professional

Edition” window will open.

Starting from the Windows “Start” button

1 Start up the projector.

Make sure to turn the projector on first. The computer should always be turned on last.

The projector must be in IrCOM mode to receive the images. Press the “IrCOM” button on the projector or the remote control.

to “Programs” and then “Sharp Advanced Presentation Software Professional Edition”.

Selecting the Main Projector Model

1 Select the main projector model you want to use.

This dialog box appears the first time you start the “Sharp Advanced Presentation Software Professional Edition”. If you want to change the projector model, you can change it on the “Projector Setting” dialog box (page 28).

Changing the Auto-Launch Setting

The default “Auto-Launch” setting is “ON”. This automatically starts the software when the PC starts up. You can change the setting as follows.

1 Click the “Option” menu, and select “Auto-Launch ON/OFF”. 2 Select the setting as required.

When “Auto-Launch ON” is selected

● The “Sharp Advanced Presentation Software Professional Edition” icon is displayed in the Windows task tray.

● The software is automatically launched when the PC starts up.

When “Auto-Launch OFF” is selected

● The “Sharp Advanced Presentation Software Professional Edition” icon is removed from the Windows task tray.

● In this case the software must be started from the “Start” menu or the “Sharp Advanced Presentation Software Professional

Edition” shortcut icon on the Windows desktop.

Setup for Controlling the Projectors

The settings for the projectors must first be made in the software before attempting to control any projector. Settings are made in “Scan Setting” or in “Projector Setting”.

The settings for the ID numbers on the projector are needed to control the projector by using the ID numbers.

Selecting the Operation Mode

1 Select “Operation Mode Setting” from the “File” menu. 2 Select the Operation Mode.

● To operate a single projector, select “Single Projector Operation Mode”

● To operate multiple projectors, select “Multiple Projector Operation Mode”, then choose “Use ID Number” or “Don’t Use ID Number”.

● When “Don’t Use ID Number” is selected for “Multiple Projector Operation Mode”, up to 99 projectors can be operated at once. Models other than the XG-V10 Series, the XG-P20X or the XG-P25X projector can be used.

● When “Use ID Number” is selected for “Multiple Projector Operation Mode”, up to 250 projectors can be operated at once. If selecting “Use ID Number”, only the XG-V10 Series, the XG-P20X or the XGP25X projectors can be used.

● A computer with high processing capability is required to use the “Multiple Projector Operation Mode”. We recommend using the “Single Projector Operation Mode” to control a single projector.

Scan Setting

This function allows the software to automatically identify and control all the projectors connected to the PC without having to the ports and models. To use this function, the COM ports and IP address to be scanned with “Scan Setting” must be set beforehand. For details and setting of “Scan Setting” see below.

1 Select “Scan Setting” from the “File” menu.

Set the projectors to be scanned here.

2 Set the port to which the projector is connected.

● In 1, check the check box of the COM port to which the projector

is connected.

● To use a LAN, input the IP address in 3, click the “Add” button, then check the check box in 4.

LAN connections are possible only with models from the XG-V10 series with the optional extension board (AN-L10T) installed.

3 Click the “Scan” button.

The connected projectors are identified.

● If projectors with the same IDs are discovered through scanning, the data for those projectors is displayed in the “Redundant” area. If this happens, reassign suitable IDs to the projectors.

● The results of scanning are compared with the pre-scanning All Projector List and the data for projectors that could not be confirmed as being connected is displayed in the “Missing” area.

4 Click “OK” if you wish to create an “All Projector List”

based on the results of scanning.

If you do not wish to create an “All Projector List”, click “Cancel”.

When “Multiple Projector Operation Mode (Use ID Number)” is selected in “Operation Mode Setting”, it is possible to add projectors manually without using the scan setting automatic identification function. In addition, when “Multiple Projector Operation Mode (Don’t Use ID Number)” or “Single Projector Operation Mode” is selected, make the respective settings at “Projector Setting”.

1 From the “File” menu, select “Projector Setting”.

By making the settings described below, it is possible to attach files containing information on individual projectors in which errors have occurred and files containing information on the user settings of all connected projectors in addition to the CSV files that are attached to the periodically sent e-mail messages.

● When the “Temp” check box is checked, a CSV file containing information on projectors whose internal temperatures are high is attached.

● When the “Fan” check box is checked, a CSV file containing information on projectors whose internal cooling fans present some sort of irregularity is attached.

● When the “Filter Cover” check box is checked, a CSV file containing information on projectors whose filter covers are not mounted properly is attached.

Error Notification Function

This software is equipped with a function for automatically notifying the computer running the SAPS software with error information when an error arises with the projector.

This function automatically turns on the projector assigned in advance as the backup projector, when the projector goes into standby due to a malfunction. When the backup projector autostarts, the settings of the projector in which the error occurred are suitably sent to the backup projector, therefore the interruption of the presentation is reduced to a minimum.

● This function can only be used when this software is running on a personal computer.

● This function can only be used with the XG-V10 Series, the XG-P20X or the XG-P25X.

● The backup projector will restart in the event of the following errors.

• Internal temperature error

• Cooling fan error

• Filter cover error

• Lamp burnout error

● The settings sent from the projector in which the error occurred to the backup projector are as follows:

● When using the backup function, we strongly recommend connecting the projectors to separate ports rather than in a daisy chain as shown on the diagram below.

This function enables you to control the individual projector adjustments from your PC. Refer to the projector’s operation manual for details on each adjustment.

projector’s menu.

● If you move to Advanced Control for Adjustment during Presentation Transfer, Capture & Transfer or Gamma Correction, Sharp Advanced Presentation Software Professional Edition automatically

confirms the adjustments on the projector and shows them in the Advanced Control for Adjustment window as default settings.

● Also when you change the sheet of the Advanced Control for Adjustment window to proceed to the other projector adjustment,

this confirmation is performed. In this case, it will repeat at regular intervals afterwards and the Advanced Control for Adjustment window may show the settings on the projector.

● The Automatic Power Shutoff function will not operate when performing

Advanced Control for Adjustment, although you turn “Auto Power Off” ON in the “Options” sheet. This function operates during Presentation Transfer, Capture & Transfer, or Gamma Correction.

Temp.: The internal temperature is abnormally high. Something

Shows the resolution of the projector’s panel.

“Input Status”

Shows the selected INPUT.

Shows the horizontal frequency (kHz). This item will not be displayed when using the video source (NTSC or PAL).

Save Control Setting and Load Control Setting

You can save all the current Advanced Control for Adjustment settings of the projector in your PC (Save Control Setting) and also load the Advanced Control for Adjustment settings saved in the PC to the projector (Load Control Setting).

To make “Save Control Setting”

Click the “File” menu to select “Save Control Setting”.

All the current Advanced Control for Adjustment settings of the projector will be saved in the SAPS folder in the PC.

To make “Load Control Setting”

With this software, the image from the connected projectors can be

divided from 2 × 2 to up to 8 × 8 to create a video wall.

● This function is not available when UXGA signals are displayed.

● This function can only be used with the XG-V10 Series, the XG-P20X

● The projector forming a video wall must belong to a group. To assign a projector not belonging to a group, add the projector to one of the groups. (See page 35.)

Changing the gamma value adjusts the tone of an image on the screen.

This function is only available in the “Single Projector Operation Mode”.

● Use the projector’s Gamma button to set the CUSTOM mode.

gamma correction. Connect a serial cable or LAN cable to the projector and the PC (page 10), then proceed to Gamma Correction.

Changing Compression Rate

When transferring a BMP image file by Presentation Transfer or Capture & Transfer, you can change compression rates.

This mode cannot be used with the XG-V10 Series, the XG-P20X or the XG-P25X projector.

Compression rate

● The default setting for image quality is “middle”.

● If you are transmitting the custom Image (BMP) used as Startup Image

and Background Image, the image is automatically transmitted as “High quality, slow transmission” for best results. The BMP file will be transferred without any conversion to minimize the loss of image quality.

● If adjusted, the compression rate will be saved in each image folder as a file. The converted files then remain in the folder so that the conversion time can be shortened thereafter.

The projector has an option to display a custom image (e.g. your company logo) upon startup of the projector (Startup Image) or when there is no signal (Background Image). You can choose your custom image from the projector’s mode menu. Refer to the projector’s operation manual for how to set Startup Image and Background Image. Use Presentation Transfer or Capture & Transfer, when sending a custom image to the projector.

Troubleshooting

Unable to transfer images or an error occurs with communication

\ Check that the connection type is surely selected as you intend. \ Check that the image size is 1280 × 1024 or lower.

In case of cable communications (RS-232C and LAN)

\ Check whether the transmission speed set at “Projector Setting”or

“Scan Setting” is the same as the transmission speed set at “RS-232C” on the projector’s OSD menu.

\ Make sure that the settings of the RS-232C port on the PC are as

follows:

Data length: 8 bits Parity bit: None Stop bit: 1 bit Flow control: None

\ Check that the port for the RS-232C serial cable or LAN cable is

correctly specified in the PC’s settings.

\ Check that the cable is correctly and securely connected (page 10).

In case of infrared communications (IrCOM)

\ Check that the infrared ports (the projector and the PC) are within

1 meter (3 ft.) distance and keep the vertical and horizontal range within 30 degrees.

\ Check that there are no obstacles between the projector and the PC. \ Avoid using this function under strong lighting conditions.

Strong light sources such as sunlight or fluorescent lighting may interfere with image transmissions.

\ Check that the projector is in the IrCOM mode before transferring

images from the PC. (See the projector operation manual.) The On-screen Display “IrCOM stand by” or “IrCOM stand by, Waiting for Data” will appear on the projection screen.

\ Check that your PC’s IrDA port is activated and configured properly.

Check the PC’s instruction manual.

\ Check the “Connection Type” in Single Projector Setting (page 30). \ Confirm that the port for infrared communications is correctly

specified in the PC’s settings.

\ For Windows 95 users: Check that Microsoft’s IrDA 2.0 (Infrared

Driver) is installed (page 9).

\ Check that the display mode is appropriate for the images. (Normal

transfer: 24 bit color or less; “Startup Image” transfer: 256 colors for BMP files)

\ Infrared communications (IrCOM) cannot be used with Windows

NT4.0 Workstation, Me, 2000 Professional, XP Home or Professional Edition.

“Gamma Correction”/“Advanced Control for Adjustment” is not operating properly

\ Reconnect the RS-232C serial cable or LAN cable and try again.

The cable may not be connected properly or an error may have occurred during the transmission.

\ Check that the port for serial (RS-232C) communications is correctly

specified in the PC’s settings (page 30).

\ Projector may not be receiving command because of the projector’s

setting. Please check the projector’s “ON/OFF” status, “INPUT SELECT” status (COMPUTER, VIDEO) or the input signal. Resend the command after adjusting these items.

\ Before Gamma Correction, use the projector’s Gamma button and

set the CUSTOM mode.

The transmitting speed is low

\ Do not use the projector’s remote control while transferring. \ Check the compression rate setting (page 81). \ Check the Transmission Speed setting, in the case of RS-232C cable

communications (page 29).

\ Note that custom image as Startup Image and Background Image

is fixed in the “High quality, slow transmission” setting.

\ Note that Quick Transfer is fixed in the “Normal quality, middle speed”

\ Check that your PC supports IrDA 1.1. \ Check the transmitting speed from your PC.

If the speed is 4 Mbps, check that an IrDA 1.1 driver is installed (page 9). Refer to the PC’s instruction manual.

If 4 Mbps IrDA should fail

\ If 4 Mbps IrDA should fail, try transmitting at 115 kbps. The following

is the procedure to change the transmitting speed.

1) Click the Windows “Start” button and then select “Settings”.

2) Select “Control Panel”.

3) Double click the “Infrared” icon.

4) Click the “Options” tab.

5) Select “Limit connection speed to” and change it to 115kbps.

Unable to save the startup image

\ Do not turn off the projector while transmission.

The image data may be lost.

Quality of the image is low

\ Check the compression rate setting (page 81). \ Note that Quick Transfer is fixed in the “Normal quality, middle speed”

setting.

Unable to speed up the transfer or improve the image quality

\ If the image file is saved in JPEG format, its compression rate cannot

be changed. Note that the compression rate only applies to BMP file format.

Unable to speed up “Gamma Correction” though the transmitting speed was changed

\ The transmitting speed setting applies to image transfer via cable

only. The speed for transfer of gamma values is fixed at 9,600 bps.

The filter cover is not properly mounted, or filter is not properly mounted.

Mount the filter cover and filter properly.

If this error message appears even though the filter cover is properly mounted, take the projector to your nearest Authorized Sharp Industrial LCD Products Dealer or Service Center for repair.

The remaining lamp life is below 100 hours.

[Possible Solution]

The lamp is burnt-out.

Communications with the projector cannot be established for some reason.

Set the computer and projector to the same communications speed. Check the connections of the cables.

COM1 is already used by other application software.

[Possible Solution]

Use a COM port not being used by another application software.

Failed to connect to the projector via LAN.

[Problem]

The projector is being controlled already from another PC via the LAN.

[Possible Solution]

Cancel the control from the other PC.

This command cannot be used with this projector now.

[Problem]

A projector with that function has not been selected in “Projector Setting”.

[Possible Solution]

Select an appropriate projector in “Projector Setting”.

Some functions may not be usable under certain circumstances. For example, the “Auto Sync.” function cannot be used if no image source is being input to the projector. The above error message appears in such cases as well.
