Before operating this projector, read this manual thoroughly and operate the projector properly. This projector provides many convenient features and functions. Operating the projector properly enables you to manage those features and maintains it in better condition for a considerable time. Improper operation may result in not only shortening the product-life, but also malfunctions, fire hazard, or other accidents. If your projector seems to operate improperly, read this manual again, check operations and cable connections and try the solutions in the “Troubleshooting” section at the end of this booklet. If the problem still persists, contact the dealer where you purchased the projector or the service center.

Safety Precaution

WARNING : TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE OR ELECTRIC

SHOCK, DO NOT EXPOSE THIS APPLIANCE TO RAIN OR MOISTURE.

– This projector produces intense light from the projection

lens. Do not stare directly into the lens as possible. Eye damage could result. Be especially careful that children do not stare directly into the beam.

– Install the projector in a proper position. If not, it may

result in a fire hazard.

– Provide appropriate space on the top, sides and rear of the

projector cabinet for allowing air circulation and cooling the projector. Minimum clearance must be maintained. If the projector is to be built into a compartment or similarly enclosed, the minimum distances must be maintained. Do not cover the ventilation slot on the projector. Heat buildup can reduce the service life of your projector, and can also be dangerous.

– The remote control, supplied to this projector, emits a laser

beam as the Laser pointer function from laser light window while pressing the LASER button (for 1 minute / Signal Emission indicator lights red to indicate laser emission). Do not look into the laser light window or shine the laser beam on a mirror, yourself or other people. Eye damage may result.

– Do not put any flammable object or spray can near the

projector, hot air is exhausted from the ventilation holes.

– If the projector is not to be used for an extended time,

unplug the projector from the power outlet.

Safety Instructions

All the safety and operating instructions should be read before the product is operated.

Read all of the instructions given here and retain them for later use. Unplug this projector from AC power supply before cleaning. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning.

Follow all warnings and instructions marked on the projector.

For added protection to the projector during a lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet. This will prevent damage due to lightning and power line surges.

Do not expose this unit to rain or use near water... for example, in a wet basement, near a swimming pool, etc...

Do not use attachments not recommended by the manufacturer as they may cause hazards.

Do not place this projector on an unstable cart, stand, or table. The projector may fall, causing serious injury to a child or adult, and serious damage to the projector. Use only with a cart or stand recommended by the manufacturer, or sold with the projector. Wall or shelf mounting should follow the manufacturer's instructions, and should use a mounting kit approved by the manufacturers.

An appliance and cart combination should be moved with care. Quick stops, excessive force, and uneven surfaces may cause the appliance and cart combination to overturn.

Slots and openings in the back and bottom of the cabinet are provided for ventilation, to insure reliable operation of the equipment and to protect it from overheating.

The openings should never be covered with cloth or other materials, and the bottom opening should not be blocked by placing the projector on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface. This projector should never be placed near or over a radiator or heat register.

This projector should not be placed in a built-in installation such as a book case unless proper ventilation is provided.

Never push objects of any kind into this projector through cabinet slots as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short out parts that could result in a fire or electric shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the projector.

Do not install the projector near the ventilation duct of airconditioning equipment.

This projector should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of the type of power supplied, consult your authorized dealer or local power company.

Do not overload wall outlets and extension cords as this can result in fire or electric shock. Do not allow anything to rest on the power cord. Do not locate this projector where the cord may be damaged by persons walking on it.

Do not attempt to service this projector yourself as opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.

Unplug this projector from wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions: a. When the power cord or plug is damaged or frayed. b. If liquid has been spilled into the projector. c. If the projector has been exposed to rain or water. d. If the projector does not operate normally by following the

operating instructions. Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating instructions as improper adjustment of other controls may result in damage and will often require extensive work by a qualified technician to restore the projector to normal operation.

e. If the projector has been dropped or the cabinet has been

damaged.

f. When the projector exhibits a distinct change in

performance-this indicates a need for service.

When replacement parts are required, be sure the service technician has used replacement parts specified by the manufacturer that have the same characteristics as the original part. Unauthorized substitutions may result in fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.

Upon completion of any service or repairs to this projector, ask the service technician to perform routine safety checks to determine that the projector is in safe operating condition.

Safety Instructions

CAUTION IN CARRYING OR TRANSPORTING THE PROJECTOR

● Do not drop or bump the projector, otherwise damages or malfunctions may result.

● When carrying the projector, use a suitable carrying case.

● Do not transport the projector by using a courier or transport service in an unsuitable transport case. This may cause

damage to the projector. To transport the projector through a courier or transport service, consult your dealer for best way.

Moving the Projector

When moving the projector, replace the lens cover and retract the adjustable feet to prevent damage to the lens and cabinet. When the projector is not in use for an extended period, put it into the protective dust cover supplied with the projector. The protective dust cover is intended for protection from dust and scratches on the surface of a cabinet, and it is not designed to protect the projector from external forces. Do not transport the projector through a courier or transport services with this bag. The projector can be damaged. When handling the projector, do not drop, bump, subject it to strong forces or put other things on the cabinet.

Installing the Projector in Proper Position

Install the projector properly. Improper installation may reduce the lamp lifetime and cause a fire hazard.

Do not tilt the projector more than 20 degrees above and below.

Do not point the projector up to project an image.

Do not point the projector down to project an image.

Do not put the projector on either side to project an image.

Air Circulation

Openings in the cabinet are provided for ventilation and to ensure reliable operation of the product and to protect it from overheating, and these openings must not be blocked or covered.

CAUTION

Hot air is exhausted from the exhaust vent. When using or installing the projector, the following precautions should be taken.

● Do not put any flammable objects near the vent.

● Keep the exhaust vent at least 3.3’(1m) away from any objects.

● Do not touch a peripheral part of the exhaust vent, especially screws and metallic

part. This area will become hot while the projector is being used.

● Do not put anything on the cabinet. The materials put on the cabinet will not only get damaged but also cause fire hazard by heat.

Cooling fans are provided to cool down the projector. This projector monitors internal temperature and control the running speed of the cooling fans.

AC Power Cord used in the United States and Canada is listed by the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and certified by the Canadian Standard Association (CSA). AC Power Cord has a grounding-type AC line plug. This is a safety feature to be sure that the plug will fit into the power outlet. Do not try to defeat this safety feature. Should you be unable to insert the plug into the outlet, contact your electrician.

This projector uses nominal input voltages of 100-120 V or 200-240 V AC. This projector automatically selects the correct input voltage. It is designed to work with single-phase power systems having a grounded neutral conductor. To reduce risk of electrical shock, do not plug into any other type of power system. Consult your authorized dealer or service station if you are not sure of the type of power being supplied. Connect the projector with all peripheral equipment before turning the projector on. (See page 17-18 for connection.)

CAUTION

For safety, unplug AC power cord when the projector is not in use. When this projector is connected to an outlet with AC power cord, it is in Stand-by mode and consumes a little electric power.

Features and Design

This Multimedia Projector is designed with the most advanced technology for portability, durability, and ease of use. This projector utilizes built-in multimedia features, a palette of 16.77 million colors, and matrix liquid crystal display (LCD) technology.

◆ Compatibility

The projector widely accepts various video and computer input signals including;

● Computers

IBM-compatible or Macintosh computer up to 1280 x 1024 resolution.

● 6 Color Systems

NTSC, PAL, SECAM, NTSC 4.43, PAL-M or PAL-N color system can be connected.

● Component Video

Component video signal, such as a DVD player output high definition TV signals including 480i, 480p, 575i, 575p, 720p, 1035i or 1080i, can be connected.

● S-Video

S-Video signal, such as a S-VHS VCR output signal, can be connected.

● RGB Scart

RGB Scart signal can be connected.

◆ Simple Computer System Setting

The projector has the Multi-scan system to conform to almost all computer output signals quickly. (See page

26.)

◆ Compact Design

This projector is extremely compact in size and weight. It is designed to be carried and work anywhere you wish to use.

◆ Keystone Adjustment

Keystone distortion can be corrected screen image. The keystone correction function enables you to use the projector where you wish to use. (See page 20, 21 and

39.)

◆ Multilanguage Menu Display

Operation menu is available in; English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Swedish, Russian, Chinese, Korean, or Japanese. (See page 39.)

◆ Digital Zoom (for Computer)

The digital zoom function expands (to approx. 16 times of screen size) or compress the image size, allowing you to focus on crucial information at a presentation. (See page 32.)

◆ Wireless Mouse

The remote control supplied with this projector has wireless mouse function for a connected computer. This function enables you to operate both the projector and the connected computer with the remote control. (See page 14.)

◆ Power Management

The Power management function reduces power consumption and maintain the lamp life. (See page 41.)

◆ Digital Visual Interface

The projector is equipped with DVI 29-pin terminal for connecting DVI output from a computer or video equipment. You can also enjoy digital entertainment content protected by HDCP technology. (See page 25 for HDCP.)

◆ Switchable Interface Terminal

The projector provides a switchable interface terminal. You can use the terminal as computer input or monitor output conveniently. (See page 40.)

◆ Pointer Function

The projector has a convenient function which displays Spotlight or Pointer controlled by the remote control on a projected image. The remote control also has the Laser pointer function. These functions will make your important presentation more effective. (See page 13,

41.)

◆ Interlace Progressive Conversion

High-quality picture is available with this technology which converts interlace signal into progressive signal. (See page 37.)

◆ User’s Logo

A projected image can be captured and used for the starting display of the projector with the Capture function. You can also display the captured image in an interval during your presentation instead of blackout image with the No show function. (See page 22, 40.)

◆ Multi Card Imager (optional)

The projector can be operated through wired/wireless LAN by attaching the Multi Card Imager that is optionally supplied. The Multi Card Imager is also used as a viewer. Contact the dealer where you purchased the projector for the Multi Card Imager.

◆ Lamp Mode

Brightness of the projection lamp can be changed by setting. The projector has the function to adjust the brightness according to an input signal for the best suited image. (See page 41.)

◆ Auto Set Up Function

The projector employs Auto Set Up button for easy setup of the projected image in terms of Focus, Keystone, and some computer display parameters. You can obtain the optimum projected image just through the one-button operation. (See page 21, 39.)

Use carry handle when moving the projector. Replace lens cover and retract adjustable feet to prevent damage to the lens and lens and cabinet.

Moving the projector

Read screen condition in Auto Set Up operation. Do not cover or dirt this sensor face. See page 21. Remove the protection sheet on the sensor when you install the projector. With this sheet attached, the Auto Set Up operation may not work properly.

Part Names and Functions

A built-in micro processor which controls this unit may occasionally malfunction and need to be reset. This can be done by pressing the RESET button with a pen, which will shut down and restart the unit. Do not use the RESET function excessively.

Turns yellow when the life of the projection lamp draws to an end. (p45, 49)

u WARNING indicator

Lights red when the projector detects abnormal condition. This also flashes red when the internal temperature of the projector exceeds the operating range. (p43, 49)

Turns the projector on or off. (p19)

POWER indicator

Flashes red until the projector gets ready to be turned on. It turns red when the projector is in the stand-by mode. It remains green while the projector is under operation. (p49)

When using the remote control, set this switch to “ON.” Set it to “ALL OFF” for energy saving when it is not used. Slide this switch to the "RESET" to initialize the remote control code. (p14)

This indicator lights red while the laser beam is being emitted from the laser light window or a signal is being sent from the remote control to the projector.

Part Names and Functions

You can move Spotlight or Pointer of the projector with the remote control to emphasize a part of the projected image. (See “Pointer” on page 41 for changing the patterns and sizes.)

While pressing the MENU button, hold down the NO SHOW button for more than 7 seconds so that the Pointer function can be available. (The Laser pointer function has switched to the Pointer function.)

Spotlight

While pressing the MENU button, hold down the NO SHOW button for more than 7 seconds.

Press the LASER button on the remote control toward the projector and see if the LASER button lights green, and Spotlight or Pointer is displayed on the screen. Then you can move Spotlight or Pointer with the PRESENTATION POINTER button. If the LASER button does not light green and still emits laser beam, the Laser pointer function has not switched to the Pointer function yet. Try these steps until the LASER button lights green.

Pointer Function

To clear Spotlight or Pointer displayed on the screen, press the LASER button toward the projector and see if the LASER button turns off. To use the Laser pointer function once again, while pressing the MENU button, hold down the NO SHOW button for more than 7 seconds.

After the Laser pointer function has switched to the Pointer function, the LASER button is used as the Pointer function ON-OFF switch instead of the Laser pointer function. Press the LASER button toward the projector and see if it lights green.

Pointer

This remote control emits a laser beam as Laser pointer function from the laser light window. When the LASER button is pressed, laser light goes on. When the LASER button is being pressed for more than 1 minute or the LASER button is released, light goes off. The signal emission indicator lights red and laser is emitted with red light to indicate laser beam is being emitted. The laser emitted is a class

II laser; therefore, do not look into the laser light window or shine the laser beam on yourself or

other people. The marks below are caution labels for laser beam. CAUTION : Use of controls, adjustments or performance of procedures other than those specified herein may result in

hazardous radiation exposure. Do not look into the laser light window while laser is emitting, otherwise eye damage may result.

Part Names and Functions

This projector has eight different remote control codes (Code 1-Code 8); the factory-set, initial code (Code 1) and the other seven codes (Code 2 to Code 8). This switching function prevents remote control interference when operating several projectors or video equipment at the same time. (Change the remote control code for the projector first before changing that for the remote control. See “Remote control” on page 42.)

While pressing the MENU button, press the IMAGE button number of times corresponding to each remote control code number. Each time you press the IMAGE button, the code is changed sequentially. (See the list below.)

To initialize the remote control code for the remote control, slide the RESET/ON/ALL-OFF switch to the RESET, and then to the ON. The initial code is Code 1.

Basic Operation

Connect the projector's AC power cord into an AC outlet. The POWER indicator flashes red in a moment and turns on red.

Press the POWER ON-OFF button on the top control or on the remote control. The POWER indicator turns green, and the cooling fans start to operate. The preparation display appears on the screen and the count down starts. (A captured image can be used as the preparation display. See “Capture” on page 40.)

Press the POWER ON-OFF button on the top control or on the remote control, and a message "Power off?" appears on the screen.

Press the POWER ON-OFF button again to turn off the projector. The POWER indicator starts to flash red, and it continues while the cooling fans are operating (for about 90 seconds).

TO MAINTAIN THE LIFE OF LAMP, ONCE YOU TURN PROJECTOR ON, WAIT AT LEAST 5 MINUTES BEFORE TURNING IT OFF. DO NOT DISCONNECT AC POWER CORD WHILE COOLING FANS ARE RUNNING OR BEFORE POWER INDICATOR LIGHTS RED. OTHERWISE IT WILL RESULT IN SHORTENING LAMP LIFE.

When the projector has cooled down enough to be turned on again, the POWER indicator lights red. Then you can disconnect the AC power cord.

The preparation display disappears after 30 seconds.

The message disappears after 4 seconds.

After the count-down, the input source that was selected last and the Lamp mode status icon appear on the screen.

NOTE

● The projector cannot be turned on during the cooling period with the

POWER indicator flashing red. You can turn it on again after the POWER indicator lights red.

● When the On start function is on, this projector is turned on automatically by

connecting the AC power cord to an AC outlet. (See page 41 for the On start function.)

● Do not use the projector for more than 24 hours continuously. Turn off the

projector at least once in 24 hours and give it a rest. Continuous use may result in shortening the lamp lifetime.

● This projector monitors internal temperature and automatically controls the

running speed of the cooling fans.

● If the WARNING indicator flashes or lights red, see “Warning Indicator” on

page 43.

Lamp mode

If a projected picture has keystone distortion, correct the image with KEYSTONE adjustment.

• The arrows are white when there is no correction.

• The direction of the arrow being corrected turns red.

• The arrows disappear at the maximum correction.

• If you press the KEYSTONE button on the remote control once more

while the keystone adjustment icon is being displayed, the keystone adjustment will be canceled.

Keystone correction (H-V)

Basic Operation

Press the FREEZE button on the remote control to freeze the picture on the screen. To cancel the FREEZE function, press the FREEZE button again or press any other button.

Press the Point UP/DOWN button to move the red arrow pointer to Corner and then press the SELECT button. The mark will appear on the screen. Move the projector, align the mark with the center of the desired screen and press the SELECT button. An arrow will appear on the upper left corner of the screen.

Keystone correction (Corner)

Please set the projector to take a lead in a screen and push select.

• The screen will not be corrected when points that exceed the correction limit are selected.

• If you select Corner and press the SELECT button, the keystone adjustment by H-V keystone correction will be canceled.

Auto Set Up Function

Use the POINT UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT button to set the upper left positioning and press the SELECT button. Perform the same procedure for the upper right, lower right and lower left positioning and press the SELECT button. The message “OK?” will appear on the screen. Selecting YES and pressing the SELECT button will correct the alignment as per the 4 points set on the screen.

Note:

• Do not put any obstruction between the Auto Set Up sensor on the projector and the screen, otherwise the Auto Set Up

function may not work properly. Do not dirt face of the Auto Set Up sensor on the projector.

• When adjusting Keystone with Auto Set Up button, set screen zoom maximum as Keystone cannot be properly corrected

under minimum zoom screen.

Auto Set Up function enables you to automatically adjust Focus, Keystone and the computer display parameters (Fine sync, Total dots and Picture position) by just pressing the Auto Set Up button on the top control or on the remote control.

Auto Set Up function operates as follows: By pressing Auto Set Up button, preparation display is projected on screen. The Auto Set Up sensor on the projector's front panel will scan the projected image and automatically adjust Focus, Keystone and computer display parameters (when computer signal is selected for input) to obtain an optimum screen. The preparation display will disappear after the adjustment is completed.

Auto Set Up operation parameter can be selected in Setting of the main menu. (Refer to Auto set up in Setting on page 39.) If the optimum screen is not obtained, adjust insufficient matters manually.

Press the NO SHOW button on the remote control to black out the image. To restore to normal, press the NO SHOW button again or press any other button. When a projected image is captured and set as “User” in the Logo item in the Setting Menu (p40), the screen changes each time you press the NO SHOW button as follows.

Press the P-TIMER button on the remote control. The timer display “00 : 00” appears on the screen and the timer starts to count time (00 : 00 ~ 59 : 59). To stop the P-Timer, press the P-TIMER button. And then, press the P-TIMER button again to cancel the P-Timer function.

Press the MENU button and the On-Screen Menu will appear. Press the Point Left/Right button to move the red frame pointer to the Sound Menu icon.

Volume

Press the VOLUME (+/–) button on the top control or on the remote control to adjust volume. The volume dialog box appears on the screen for a few seconds. (+) button to turn up the volume and (–) button to turn down the volume.

Mute

Press the MUTE button on the remote control to cut off sound. To restore sound to its previous level, press the MUTE button again or press the VOLUME (+/–) button.

Press the Point Right button to turn up the volume, and press the Point Left button to turn down the volume.

When the input source compatible with HDCP is coming from video equipment through the DVI terminal, select RGB (AV HDCP).

NOTE

● HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) is a system for

protecting digital entertainment content delivered by DVI (Digital Visual Interface) from being copied. The specification of HDCP is decided and controlled by Digital Content Protection, LLC. Should the specification be changed, this projector may not display the digital content protected by HDCP.

Computer Input

This projector can detect most of the current computer systems with the Multi-scan system and the Auto PC adjustment function provided in the projector. When selecting computer input, the projector automatically displays the most proper image for the input signal. One of the following four displays appears on the system menu icon. If the projector does not tune the input signal and the projected image is not displayed properly, or when you wish to adjust it manually, perform manual adjustment as described on page 28 and 29.

When the projector cannot recognize the connected signal as PC system provided in this projector, the Auto PC Adjustment function operates to adjust the projector and the message “Auto” is displayed in the PC System Menu icon. When the image is not provided properly, manual adjustment is required. (p28, 29)

There is no signal input from the connected computer. Check the connection of the computer and see if the projector is set correctly. (See “Troubleshooting” on page 47.)

Some computers employ special signal formats which may not be tuned by Multi-scan system of this projector. This projector has Manual PC Adjustment to enable you to precisely adjust several parameters to match those signal formats. The projector has 5 independent memory areas to memorize those parameters manually adjusted. This enables you to recall the setting for a specific computer whenever you use it.

Press the MENU button and the On-Screen Menu will appear. Press the Point Left/Right button to move the red frame pointer to the PC Adjust Menu icon.

The COMPUTER IN 2/MONITOR OUT terminal on the back of the projector can be used as computer input or monitor output by switching Terminal with the Point Left/Right button. To use the terminal as computer input or RGB Scart 21-Pin Video input, select Computer 2. To use the terminal as monitor out, select Monitor out. Terminal cannot be switched into Monitor out after selecting Computer 2. In this case, select other input source such as Computer 1 or Video, and you will select Terminal.

When this function is “On,” the picture is top/bottom and left/right reversed. This function is used to project the image from a ceiling mounting the projector.

This function is available when using Multi Card Imager optionally supplied, and it reduces standby energy when selecting Eco.

Capture

This function is used to capture the image being projected and use it for a starting-up display or interval of presentations. After capturing the projected image, go to the Logo function and set it as “User”. Then the captured image will be displayed when turning on the projector next time or pressing the NO SHOW button. (p22) To capture the image, select [Yes]. To cancel the Capture function, select [No]. Before capturing an image, select Standard in the Image Select Menu to capture a proper image. (See page 30, 36.) A signal from a computer can be captured up to XGA(1024 x 768). A signal from video equipment can be captured except for 720p, 1035i, and 1080i. When capturing the image that has been adjusted by the Keystone function, the adjustment data is automatically reset and the projector captures an image without keystone adjustment.

For reducing power consumption as well as maintaining the lamp life, the Power management function turns off the projection lamp when the input signal is interrupted and no button is pressed for 30 seconds or more.

When the input signal is interrupted and no button is pressed for 30 seconds or more, the timer display with the message "No signal" appears on the screen. The count-down starts for the time to have been set. The count-down time can be set between 1 and 30 minutes.

When the count-down time has elapsed, the lamp will be turned off to cool itself down. The POWER indicator is flashing red during this cooling-off period. The next performance depends on setting as follows.

Ready ······ When the lamp has been fully cooled down, the

POWER indicator changes to green flashing. In this condition, the projection lamp will be turned on if the input signal is reconnected or any button on the top control or remote control is pressed.

Shutdown···· When the lamp has been fully cooled down, the

power will be turned off.

Off ···············The Power management function is canceled.

When this function is “On,” the projector is automatically turned on just by connecting the AC power cord to a wall outlet.

NOTE

● Be sure to turn the projector off properly (see “Turning Off the Projector”

on page 19). If the projector is turned off in the wrong steps, the On start function does not operate properly.

Select Spotlight or Pointer with the Point Up/Down button and press the SELECT button. Then select size or pattern with the Point Left/Right button.

Lamp mode

Pointer

You can emphasize a part of the projected image with this function. Choose either Spotlight or Pointer with the Point Up/Down button and press the SELECT button. Then select one of three different sizes (Large, Middle, and Small) of Spotlight or a pointer of three different patterns (Arrow, Finger, and Dot) of Pointer. (See page 13 for operation.)

Pointer

This function allows you to change brightness of the screen.

Setting

This function is used to reset the lamp replace counter. When replacing the projection lamp, reset the lamp replace counter by using this function. See page 46 for operation.

Remote control

This projector provides eight different remote control codes (Code 1Code 8); the factory-set, initial code (Code 1) and the other seven codes (Code 2 to Code 8). This switching function prevents remote control interference when operating several projectors or video equipment at the same time. For example operating the projector in “Code 7”, both the projector and the remote control must be switched to “Code 7”.

To change the code for the projector;

Select a remote control code in this Setting Menu.

To change the code for the remote control;

While holding down the MENU button, press the IMAGE button number of times corresponding to the remote control code for the projector. (See page 14 for details.)

When pressing the SELECT button at Remote control, the remote control code menu appears.

Key lock

This function locks operation of the top control and remote control. It is useful to prevent operation by a third person.

Factory default

This function returns all setting values except for the lamp counter to the factory default settings.

Select Key lock and this box appears. Choose one of these with the Point Up/Down button and select [Yes] to activate it.

If the top control accidentally becomes locked and you do not have the remote control nearby, disconnect the AC power cord to turn off the power, and then while pressing the SELECT button, connect the AC power cord again. This will cancel the top control lock.

USB key lock

The WARNING indicator shows the state of the function which protects the projector. Check the state of the WARNING indicator and the POWER indicator to take proper maintenance.

Warning Indicator

The projector is shut down and the WARNING indicator is flashing red

When the temperature inside the projector exceeds the normal temperature, the projector is automatically shut down to protect the inside of the projector. The POWER indicator is flashing and the projector is being cooled down. When the temperature inside the projector returns to normal, the POWER indicator lights red and the projector can be turned on.

NOTE

● After the temperature inside the projector returns to normal, the WARNING

indicator still continues to flash. When the projector is turned on again, the WARNING indicator stops flashing.

Then check the items below.

✓ Did you provide appropriate space for the projector to be

ventilated? Check the installing condition to see if ventilation slots are not blocked.

✓ Is the projector not installed near the ventilation duct of air-

conditioning equipment which may be hot? Install the projector away from the ventilation duct of air-conditioning equipment.

✓ Are the air filters clean? Clean the air filters periodically.

WARNING lights red

TOP CONTROL

The projector is shut down and the WARNING indicator lights red

When the projector detects an abnormal condition, it is automatically shut down to protect the inside and the WARNING indicator lights red. In this case, disconnect the AC power cord and reconnect it, and then turn the projector on once again for check. If the projector is still turned off and the WARNING indicator lights red, disconnect the AC power cord and contact the service station for check and repair.

CAUTION

DO NOT LEAVE THE PROJECTOR WITH THE AC POWER CORD CONNECTED UNDER THE ABNORMAL CONDITION. IT MAY RESULT IN FIRE OR ELECTRIC SHOCK.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Disconnect the AC power cord before cleaning.

When the projector is not in use, replace the lens cover.

Follow these steps to clean the projection lens.

Air Filter Pull up and remove.

Turn off the projector, and disconnect the AC power cord from the AC outlet.

Turn the projector upside down and remove the air filters by pulling the latches upward.

Air filters prevent dust from accumulating on the surface of the optical elements inside the projector. Should the air filters become clogged with dust particles, it will reduce cooling fans’ effectiveness and may result in internal heat build up and adversely affect the life of the projector. Clean the air filters following the steps below.

Clean the air filters with a brush or rinse them softly.

When cleaning the air filters by rinsing, dry them well. Replace the air filters properly. Make sure that the air filters are fully inserted.

CAUTION

Do not operate the projector with the air filters removed. Dust may accumulate on the LCD panel and the projection mirror degrading picture quality. Do not put small parts into the air intake vents. It may result in malfunction of the projector.

RECOMMENDATION

We recommend avoiding dusty/smoky environments when operating the projector. Usage in these environments may cause poor image quality.

When using under dusty or smoky conditions, dust may accumulate on a lens, LCD panels, or optical elements inside the projector. This condition may degrade the quality of a projected image. When the above symptoms are noticed, contact your authorized dealer or service station for proper cleaning.

Cleaning the Air Filters

Cleaning the Projector Cabinet

Disconnect the AC power cord before cleaning.

Softly wipe the projector body with a soft, dry cleaning cloth. When it is heavily soiled, use a small amount of mild detergent and finish with a soft, dry cleaning cloth. Avoid using an excessive amount of cleaner. Abrasive cleaners, solvents, or other harsh chemicals might scratch the surface.

Follow these steps to clean the projector cabinet.

When the projector is not in use, put the projector in the carrying case to protect it from dust and scratches.

Softly wipe the projection lens with a cleaning cloth that contains a small amount of non-abrasive camera lens cleaner, or use lens cleaning paper or a commercially available air blower to clean the lens. Avoid using an excessive amount of cleaner. Abrasive cleaners, solvents, or other harsh chemicals might scratch the surface.

When the life of the projection lamp of this projector draws to an end, the LAMP REPLACE indicator lights yellow. If this indicator lights yellow, replace the lamp with a new one promptly.

Follow these steps to replace the lamp.

ORDER REPLACEMENT LAMP

Replacement lamp can be ordered through your dealer. When ordering a projection lamp, give the following information to the dealer.

● Model No. of your projector : PLC-XU60/PLC-SU60

● Replacement Lamp Type No. : POA-LMP68

(Service Parts No. 610 308 1786)

For continued safety, replace with a lamp of the same type. Do not drop a lamp or touch a glass bulb! The glass can shatter and may cause injury.

Allow a projector to cool, for at least 45 minutes before you open the Lamp cover. The inside of the projector can become very hot.

This indicator lights yellow when the life of the projection lamp draws to an end.

Top Control

CAUTION

Turn off the projector and disconnect the AC plug. Allow the projector to cool for at least 45 minutes.

Loosen 2 screws of the lamp with a screwdriver and pull out the lamp by grasping the handle.

Replace the lamp with a new one and tighten the 2 screws back into position. Make sure that the lamp is set properly. Replace the lamp cover.

Insert the coin etc. and pushing it, then remove the lamp cover upward.

Connect the AC power cord to the projector and turn on the projector.

Reset the Lamp replace counter.

See “Lamp Replace Counter” on the next page .

Maintenance and Cleaning

Be sure to reset the lamp replace counter after the lamp is replaced. When the lamp replace counter is reset, the LAMP REPLACE indicator stops lighting.

Turn the projector on, press the MENU button and the OnScreen Menu will appear. Press the Point Left/Right button to move the red frame pointer to the Setting Menu icon.

Press the Point Down button to move the red frame pointer to the Lamp counter reset item and then press the SELECT button. The message "Lamp replace counter Reset?" is displayed. Move the pointer to [Yes] and then press the SELECT button.

Another confirmation dialog box appears and select [Yes] to reset the Lamp replace counter.

This projector uses a high-pressure lamp which must be handled carefully and properly. Improper handling may result in accidents, injury, or create a fire hazard.

● Lamp lifetime may differ from lamp to lamp and according to the environment of use. There is no

guarantee of the same lifetime for each lamp. Some lamps may fail or terminate their lifetime in a shorter period of time than other similar lamps.

● If the projector indicates that the lamp should be replaced, i.e., if the LAMP REPLACE indicator lights

up, replace the lamp with a new one IMMEDIATELY after the projector has cooled down. ( Follow carefully the instructions in the Lamp Replacement section of this manual. ) Continuous use of the lamp with the LAMP REPLACE indicator lighted may increase the risk of lamp explosion.

● A Lamp may explode as a result of vibration, shock or degradation as a result of hours of use as its

lifetime draws to an end. Risk of explosion may differ according to the environment or conditions in which the projector and lamp are being used.

IF A LAMP EXPLODES, THE FOLLOWING SAFETY PRECAUTIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN.

If a lamp explodes, disconnect the projector’s AC plug from the AC outlet immediately. Contact an authorized service station for a checkup of the unit and replacement of the lamp. Additionally, check carefully to ensure that there are no broken shards or pieces of glass around the projector or coming out from the cooling air circulation holes. Any broken shards found should be cleaned up carefully. No one should check the inside of the projector except those who are authorized trained technicians and who are familiar with projector service. Inappropriate attempts to service the unit by anyone, especially those who are not appropriately trained to do so, may result in an accident or injury caused by pieces of broken glass.

LAMP HANDLING PRECAUTIONS

Lamp Replace Counter

NOTE

● Do not reset the Lamp replace counter without implementation of lamp

replacement. Be sure to reset the Lamp replace counter only after replacing the lamp.

Move the pointer to Lamp counter reset and then press the SELECT button. The message “Lamp replace counter Reset?” is displayed.

Troubleshooting

Before calling your dealer or service center for assistance, check the items below once again.

– Make sure you have properly connected the projector to peripheral equipment as described in "Connecting to a Computer"

and “Connecting to Video Equipment” on page17 and 18.

– Make sure all equipment is connected to AC outlet and the power is turned on. – When you operate the projector with a computer and it does not project an image, restart the computer.

No power

– Plug the power cord of the projector into the AC outlet. – See if the POWER indicator lights red. – Wait 90 seconds after the projector is turned OFF when turning the projector back on.

The projector can be turned on after the POWER indicator turns red. (See “Turning Off the Projector” on page 19.)

– Check the WARNING indicator. If the WARNING indicator lights red, the projector cannot

be turned on. (See "Warning Indicator" on page 43.)

– Check the projection lamp. (See page 45.) – Unlock Key lock for the projector in the Setting Menu. (See page 42.)

Adjust focus of the projector.

Moving the projector from a cool temperature location to a warm temperature location may result in moisture condensation on the projection lens. In such an event, leave the projector OFF and wait until condensation disappears.

Attaching the Lens Cover

When moving this projector or when it is not used for an extended period, replace the lens cover.

Thread the string through the hole on the lens cover and then tie a knot in the string to secure it in place.

Thread the other end of the string through the hole at the bottom of the projector. Then pass the lens cover through the resulting loop of the string. Tie a knot in the string to secure it in place.

USB Key Lock Function

(This is optional function. Optionally supplied USB Key needed.)

USB Key lock

Move the pointer to item and then press POINT LEFT/RIGHT button(s). (Off, On1 or On2)

When pressing the SELECT button at USB key lock, the USB key lock Menu appears.

By using optionally supplied Projector USB Key, operation of the projector can be restricted by the projector owner. Once the projector is locked with the USB Key, only the owner who has key can operate the projector.

When the USB KEY LOCK is set, a USB KEY mark will appear on the MENU BAR.

Key registration

Before using the USB key, you must register USB key into the projector. Turn the projector ON and connect the USB Key to the USB terminal located on the rear of the projector. (See Item

page10) A USB key icon (A) will appear on screen and the USB Key connected to the terminal will be automatically registered into the projector. (Do not disconnect the USB Key while the icon is displayed on screen. If you like to have another USB key registered, follow the procedure below:

Deleting key registration

With the USB Key plugged in, select "DELETE (USB plugged in)" from the USB Key registration menu (B) and press the SELECT button. OK icon will appear on screen and the registration will be cleared. If you select "Delete (Another)", the registration of another USB Key which is not connected to the projector will be cleared.

Press the Menu button and On-Screen Menu will appear. Press the Point Left/Right button to move the frame pointer to the Setting menu icon.

Press the Point Down button to move the red frame pointer to the USB Key Lock icon, then press the SELECT button. USB Key Lock menu will appear Press the Point Left/Right button and select one of the following key lock modes.

Projector is not locked with USB Key.

Need the USB Key every time the Projector is turned on.

After having inserted and certified the USB KEY, it can be removed from the projector without interrupting projector operation.

Need the USB Key to turn the Projector on after AC power cord is reconnected to the AC outlet.

Connect first key to the USB terminal on the projector.

Press the Menu button and On-Screen Menu will appear. Press the Point Left/Right button to move the red frame pointer to the Setting menu icon.

Press the Point Down button to move the red frame pointer to the USB Key Lock icon, then press the SELECT button. USB Key Lock menu will appear.

Press the SELECT button again and USB Key registration menu (B) will appear.

Select "Registration" with Point Up/Down button and press the SELECT button. A USB key icon (C) will appear. For about 30 seconds while the USB key icon is on screen, remove the first registered USB Key from the projector and connect another USB Key which you wish to register as second key to the projector. After that, OK icon (D) will appear for a little while to make sure the USB Key is registered.

Up to two keys can be registered into the projector. If you attempt to register third key, an X mark (E) will be displayed to prohibit the registration.

To lock the projector with USB key

Note:

When turning the projector ON again with the projector set to USB KEY LOCK On1 or On2 position, a screen indicating USB KEY LOCK will appear after the countdown. At that time, if the registered USB KEY is not inserted within 3 minutes, the automatically turned off.
